Saints vs Cardinals is NOT About Spencer Rattler | James Skrmetta Reacts
Bold Saints predictions that will either age like fine wine or milk. Ladies and gentlemen, I would not recommend aged milk. Then again, I think that’s called cheese. All right, off the bench, Jacob Hester, Matt Flynn. I got a couple predictions. Prediction number one, I actually was thinking about this yesterday. Nothing to do with the Saints. I think the Jets are going to be the worst team in the NFL. I think the Jets will be 32 out of 32. I think they will be an absolute disaster across the board. I think Aaron Glenn, I think Justin Field, I think the whole thing is not going to work. I think the Jets will be the worst team in the NFL. All right, I’ll give you another one. This one is related to the Saints. I think Kelvin Banks and Danny Stzman will be the two big names out of this draft class. Like I think they will be franchise players for the next whatever two contracts, eight years, 10 years. New Orleans Saints taking on the Arizona Cardinals. Going to be a noon kick on CBS. Inside the Superdome, what do we want to see outside of the obvious? Outside of the obvious, Jakeer. I want to see Jake out there taking reps, throwing that rugby ball. Yeah, if he throws that down. I want to see JT Gray. Oh, I’m just kidding. I know. Oh boy. So, we talked a little bit about what we want to see. You know, we want to see the Saints exist. We want to see them be relevant. We want to see them succeed early on offensively. We want to see them be able to stop the run. We want to see them be able to contain Trey McBride. I want to see everything. I know. Utilize Chris Lave and Rasheed Shahed. We want to see Spencer Rather get the ball out of his hands quick. Get the ball to Rashid Shahed. Chris in that screen short intermediate game. We want to see Alvin Chimera be able to successfully run the football. We want to see the offensive line hold up. Oh, like I was like outside of a victory cuz duh. But they’re going to win. Saints going to win this week. I’m not too opposed to winning. I’ll be okay. Saints going to win this week. I wouldn’t be like I want to see Kyler Murray. Not it. I might say I do want to see Spencer Rattler kind of go off. That’d be nice. and just kind of give a big like I got two words for you like at the end of the day. Yep. Quiet the haters aka Nick Underh Hill aka everybody that covers the team. True. It ain’t just our boy Nick. Everybody. Hey. Hey. Uh tell me about Spencer Rattler in week one coming up. Well, Tyler Shuck is um just a matter of time. Just a matter of time with Tyler Shack. Okay. Okay. But I I have nothing against Tyler Shook because Tyler Shook’s been great since he got drafted. But I am rooting hard for Spencer Rat. Yeah, you have to. It would be incredible. Incredible to see the scenes to see the scenes by the seashore selling she shells. Some would say the hell am I talking about? It would be incredible to see if the Saints just go out there and win 35 to 14. They just roll. Offense is rolling. Rattler’s rolling. Chimera’s, you know, doing his thing. Chris A and Rashiji here doing what they got to do. New defense is all over the place. It would be crazy to see the just the conversation the following week. No, me too. Like I want him to succeed so bad. And not just because he’s playing for the Saints. that just his story getting to know him a little bit over the last couple of years. Uh in a way that he has he’s humbled himself. He has been a great teammate. He has been somebody that plays with a lot of confidence but not that I’m too cocky way. Like I just I can root for him and his story and the way that he’s gotten to this point to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you know, seeing him first time seeing Spencer Ri was on QB1, so started off on the wrong foot. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So, you know, seeing the ups and downs of his career, you know, Caleb Williams coming in, taking his job in Oklahoma, him having to go to South Carolina and then getting up leading up into this point. Um, you you can’t not only not root for him, but at the same time, it’s like if the Saints win five games this year, are we going to keep rattling around next year? you know, you know, at a certain point it’s like probably not feel like the clock is ticking on him and Shuck. Him and Shuck. Like I believe, if you ask me, I think the Saints are in their Davis Mill era before the before the Texans got CJ Stra. Certainly possible. Certainly possible. Happens all the time where the Eagles were in their car Carson Wentz era before Jaylen Herz. Cardinals were in their Josh Rosen era, albeit for one year. Texans were in their Davis Mills eras before CJ Strad. Will Levis era in Tennessee. We’ll see how Cam Ward pans out. But it happens 100%. You know, like it’s not, you know, sometimes I mean sometimes the quarterback position, you know, it gets the spotlight for sure, but sometimes we make too much out of it where you’re either the greatest quarterback ever, you’re a franchise quarterback, or you’re horrible. Sometimes there is that in between. And I’m not saying Spencer Rer and Tyler Shuck are the in between, but sometimes you are in that where you don’t have a franchise guy, but you’re not horrible. You’re just kind of figuring things out until the next franchise guy. Who knows how long that, you know, who some teams they don’t get a franchise guy for a long time. But yeah, I mean, you just never know. Sometimes in the NFL and sports in general, it’s like you don’t know until you know, you and right now we’re in that situation with the Saints. We we don’t know. And luckily, we’re only a couple days away from all of the hypothesizing and the theoretical talk. All that’s going to go bye-bye and we’re going to start seeing actual stuff on the field Monday. I mean, Sunday afternoon, we will be able to see what this team is and we’ll be able to say, “Okay, Spencer Rattler was horrible. Spencer Rattler was great. Spencer Rattler was average. Run defense horrible. Great.” like we’ll be able to actually put like a a data point for all this stuff. You know, we’re going to keep Davis Mills around for the, you know, two years. See, you know, we’re going we’re not going to be good. We’re going to see what type of picks we can get and where we end up. But I just think that that’s the era the Saints are in right now. I don’t really think that you have the starting quarterback of the team in 2030 on this roster right now. No, I don’t I don’t believe that. 2030 the starting quarter. I don’t know. I don’t know if CJ Stra is gonna be the starting quarterback for the Texans in 2030. God dog. I mean, that’s another thing, too, I hear a lot about. It’s like, I mean, is Spencer Rattler or is Tyler Shuck really our, you know, 10 year starting quarterback? It’s like, who who the hell when did that become like a barometer? When did 10 years be the barometer of success? You You’re hoping to get a contract out of players. You’re hoping to get two, three, four years out of players. 10 years. Like I mean there’s if you told me right now, hey, will will Jaden Daniels be the starting quarterback for the uh Washington Commanders in 2035? I don’t know. I think Jayen Daniels is awesome. But do I think he’s a 10-year franchise quarterback for the same team? That that’s that’s a that’s a big that’s a big thing to put on a a quarterback. A long way away. Yeah. Damn. Long way away. You can’t see that with a telescope. charges. Herbert I can see Herbert being our starting quarterback in 2030. I can’t I don’t know. I don’t know though. But like Justin Herbert’s kind of in the same not the same situation, but Justin Herbert is in kind of a year where it’s like, hey man, you’re going to have to start doing some stuff. You’re going to have to start winning some games. You got to start winning playoff games. You got to start doing some things. You got to start putting You got to be the real franchise quarterback. you know, Trevor Lawrence, we all know I mean, you know, we all know the career Trevor Lawrence had, but yeah, I mean, 2030 that I’m, you know, that that’s that’s wild. That guy’s Yeah. I mean, there’s what how many teams have their guy for 2030 right now? Eight. That is that too high? Hell yeah. Seems like a lot. I mean, yeah. who who like I mean damn like to I’m trying to think I you got to really think about how long away that is and how much how much happens in the NFL and the unknown and and whatnot like even players like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen five years from now what are they going to look like? How are they what are the team what’s the teams going to look like? Who’s the coach going to be? You know, is John Harbaugh gonna be the coach of the Ravens in 2030? I don’t know. Well, I mean, especially when you’re talking about the but he’s a younger 30 second ranked roster. I mean, Joe Burrow Joe Burrow and Cincinnati. Would would anyone be shocked if Cincinnati was horrible this year and and it just kind of imploded and their ownership and the whatever and Joe Burrow went somewhere else. Would anybody be surprised that the Saints are going to have eight wins? No. No. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. No, I said how many teams right now can think of who their quarterback’s going to be in 23rd. Oh, okay. I said probably eight. My bad. I think the thing though was like you’re tweaking. No, I was like, hang on, Jake. No. Oh, these meds are really working. I was like, woo. I mean, I think Jay and Daniels 2030 I think is safe a safe bet, but Straoud probably unless he took unless he takes another significant step back. I always use this example, but like M. Jones, at the end of M. Jones’s rookie year, there were articles being written in New England that they found their next Tom Brady. And people were people were saying like, I cannot believe the Patriots did this. I cannot believe they went from all these years of Tom Brady and now they have M. Jones. They did it again. And then the next year he gets benched. Gone. never plays again. Bill Bichc gone. And think about that. Think about if somebody would have said when when you know the year after Tom Brady retires, imagine being like, you know, I’m thinking Bellich retires, goes to college, he’s horrible there. I think M. Jones is going to be uh benched his second year. Like strange stuff happens in the NFL. Um, the thing I’m looking for the most is of course besides the quarterback play. Um, is really seeing this new Kell Moore offense. Yes. In action. So, we we had our discussion with Kell Moore last week. Um, and he kind of just definitely he like admitted just like every coach does every offense like everything is not by the way. So, New Orleans football got an interview with Kell Moore. Off the bench got an interview with Kell Moore. I don’t watch those. I don’t react to those because I think it’s I think it’s one of those things where like you get an exclusive interview with the head coach of the team. I tip I kind of tip the cap. I tip the cap and I say, “Hey, kudos. You got an interview with Kell Moore. All right.” And you know, I know we do reaction content or whatever, but that’s why we don’t do those on here because it’s like, “Okay, they earned it. They got it. They have the interview. It’s theirs. If you want to watch it, go on their channel, you know. So, just in case you ever wonder like why aren’t you reacting to Kell Moore on Off the Bench or on New Orleans football or whatever. That’s why. So, it’s a little it’s like a it’s a mutual respect kind of thing, you know, installed for preseason. what you see is pretty basic vanilla stuff trying to get the ball in some guy’s hand, do some basic stuff, basic football plays, but it’s not the you don’t get the entire um picture of what this offense is going to be, how the game management’s going to be, how he is as a head coach. Like, so it’s it’s his baby. This is his like make no qualms about this is his offense. he has installed it from all this amalgamation of like all the things all the offenses and offensive philosophies and great um minds that he’s been around. I’m so interested to see how that is going to translate into I agree 100% and and honestly this this is going to befuddle some people. I’m not really concerned about the quarterback play at all. Like in the preseason absolutely because it was a battle and it was whatever. The Saints are not going to rely on the quarterback position. The Saints are not going to run this offense through Spencer Rattler. So, I’m interested in seeing the offensive line, the running game, Alvin Chimera, Chris Alave, Rasheed Shahed, the offense, the philosophy, the defense. Can we stop the run? Can we can on my priority list of like what I’m really focused on in this game, the quarterback play, position is pretty low. Pretty low. It’s It’s closer to the bottom than it is the top. And that’s just how this team is going to be. We are not going to win through our quarterback play. Now, yeah, quarterback’s a part of that, but I’m way more concerned about can Alvin Chimera run the football than I am about Spencer Rattler’s QBR. Week one, season one of what Kell Moore because I believe that he is a very good football mind, a very good coach. He was a really great player um and has been a good quarterback. Yeah. I mean, if he would have won if Kell Moore would have won the Super Bowl last year like Ben Johnson did, then you know, maybe he would have the hype that Ben Johnson does. You know, coach, offensive coordinator. Now he gets a shot. So, what is that offense going to look like? Excited to see that in action and let them cut it loose. And I get it. I know that there’s um there’s some roster issues, there’s some talent discrepancies here and there, but like it’s still the NFL. These are NFL professional football players. They will win games. I’m sorry if you want them to go 0 and 17. Yeah, it ain’t gonna happen. And I think they’ll win this weekend. Um there you go. Play at home week one. They got a lot of juice. Arizona doesn’t really know what to expect, right? They’re they’re not they don’t have a book of tape on what a exact Kell Moore offense is going to be or a head a head coach run or uh Kell Moore team is going to be all about. So there’s not a lot to go on that. So, if they’re going to get some, I say get them early and they got a shot at it. Arizona, they got talent. Of course, Kyler Murray is there. He’s ultra talented, but they’re not world beaters. Not not world beaters. It’s a winnable game, especially at I mean, come on. It’s a winnable game. It is like that. That’s the thing about this one is that are the Saints favored, you know, do they win this 10 out, you know, eight out of 10 times? No. But they probably win it four out of 10 times somewhere in there. And this could absolutely be one of the four. Week one. Go out. Shut the haters up. Spencer will be juiced. The dome will be juiced. It will be juiced. A lot of juice reference on here. It will be juiced. But I’ll tell you this, what takes the juice out the quickest is if it’s 13 to nothing at halftime. If the Saints go three and out their first three possessions, if it’s second and 20 on the first drive, if it’s third and 18, that’s why I made a point to mention like the Saints have to be they have to exist. They had to be relevant in the game. Keep the crowd in it. Keep Arizona on their on their heels. It’s got to start hot and it should be even though it’s the cheapest ticket in the NFL right now. Yeah, but they’re going to be in there. It’s week one. They’re going to be in there. It’s still shocking to me that it’s the cheapest ticket. And I’ll say this, too. It’s gone down a dollar. It all that stuff isn’t real. The get in price is always like you’re sitting, you’re basically skydiving on the roof, you know, like, oh, get in price $8. Okay, you go ahead and get on SeatGeek and try and get in the dome where you’re not sitting in the 600, 800, 900 club where you’re not moonwalking on the sun. Like, try try and see see what the 300’s are. See what you know, whatever the hundreds are down down by the by by the field. Like all all that stuff is is crazy. 36 now. It was 37. One of the one of the main things I do want to see the most is like what you was going on Matt about is like what’s the identity of this team or what the identity of this team will be like. You know certain the better teams in the league you know Ravens or the Eagles like you know they’re going to be smashmouth football. They’re going to come out they’re going to run the ball like what exactly is this identity of the team’s going to look like? That’s one thing I will be looking for because you know the team’s going to take on the identity of the coach. We don’t know what Kell Moore I don’t know. Here’s the good thing about Kell Moore, though, and I’ll give him an attab boy for this, and we talked about it when we had him on. He will look at what his talent is and create the identity. Oh, yeah. He He’s He is going to coach this team. He is 100% going to coach this team on a play-by-play basis. Think about Okay, so he’s had Dak Prescott, he’s had Justin Herbert, he’s had Jaylen Herz. All three of those offenses have been completely different. Yep. because he’s looked at his talent and said, “Don’t forget the Eagles were absolute balls the year before Kellmore got there. Sirriani was on the hot seat. There was a legitimate talk about like, eh, did they just catch Lightning in a bottle?” But h, you know, I don’t know about this. He I mean, he gets in there, Fangio gets in there, all of a sudden they’re one of the greatest teams ever. Okay, I need to form the offense around what I I’m not saying it’s all Kellen, but he does deserve some credit for what Philly did. A lot of people want to say like, “Oh, well, it was Philly. Anybody could have done that. Look at the roster.” Okay, well, look at the year before have. So, with that being known, us having that knowledge, I think you’re going to have an offense that is built around number 41. Okay. I think AK is going, that’s why I said my bold prediction, he’s going to have his first thousand yard season. I agree with that, too. Okay. I think he is going to be the driving force in the entire offense and then you’re going to ask Spencer to go make a handful of plays every single game. Yeah, I think it is going to be it’s going to be incredibly similar to what Jared Goff was asked to do. Not not at this level. Golf was a little bit different, but when the Rams had Todd Gurley and G was just kind of a play action merchant, just kind of a, you know, roll out kind of merchant, G did eventually come into his own. But yeah, Rattler is not going to be asked to carry this team. Two more. I I really think Rasheed Shahed’s role is going to shift. I think previously he was this like only a burner, only a go route, only whatever. I think Kell’s going to get him the ball quick and a lot. I think whether it’s sweeps or screens or crossing routes or whatever, I think I think he’s going to be asking a lot out of Chris and Rashahed built around him. And like I said, Kell’s done a great job in his past of building around certain players and certain skill sets. And if I had to guess, I think it’s going to be built around AK in the passing game and the running game. And and I think that uh thousand yards rushing it it will be tough to hit because I do think teams are going to monster truck rally outside they’re gonna try to take that but it won’t be unheard of to have over 1500 yard allpurpose certainly I think it’s going to be checked down Charlie that’s fine and and that’s great get creative with that also I mean you got you got playmakers you got speed out there get the ball in your playmakers get let him run look you hit two deep play heavy play action shots down the field. Everybody backs up and it opens up running lanes. And you’ve got the perfect receivers, I think, to be able to go do that. You got We’re talking ourselves back into a It ain’t just the meds, baby. I don’t know, bro. It ain’t just the meds. It’s also the CTE. Honestly, let’s go through the room. Let’s pick a realistic win total for the Saints. This is Should this be turnover turnover chain? He could turn over chain it, but Taylor’s not here. So, all right. I’m saying I don’t even necessarily believe this, but if it’s going to give me the chain, I can blame CTE on this. I am going to go eight and nine for Louis for possible. Whoa. Yeah, why not? Why not in the possibility? The Saints go eight and nine. Riers are future. Why not? He’s your future then. Look, this is supposed to be bold. That’s That’s Oh, it’s supposed to be bold. Oh, bold. Oh man, that’s I was going realistic. That’s a good year to me. Realistic. I do think eight and nine is I think they can find their way to eight. I’m I’m sitting at between five and four. Like five four is crazy. I I think if you do if the Saints are to win eight games, you got to win one of the first two. Four wins four games. My god. You know, I I think you you’ll split with Atlanta. You’ll split with the uh Carolina. You know, I I think the Bucks kind of run away with the division. I You split with Atlanta and split with Carolina. You got two wins. You think you only get two wins the rest of the way? I just don’t really The Saints will The Saints are going to have to Atlanta this year. I think Phoenix is good. Yeah, they’ll catch it later in the year. Like they’re one of those teams that later down the line they’re going to knock somebody, not say knock them out the playoffs, but like ruin their playoff seating a little bit. Like they’re one of those team like you’re sleeping on. They’re gonna have those moments where they’re gonna they’re going to lose three, four, five straight and then they might go I’m gonna Just to be different. Say be different. Let’s I’m gonna go seven. Okay. Just because I’m trying. I think 678 is like the most likely landing spot somewhere in there. Yeah, I’m trying. I’m trying to be a fan. Y we’re we’re talking about how crazy we are picking them and have a losing record still. I mean, you know, you win five games last year. You got a lot of unknowns. Yeah, that that it is what it is. I think you do the same thing for Carolina. I think Carolina would cut their arm off for eight wins, seven wins. Atlanta hasn’t had a winning season since 2017. Okay. Like the Jaguars won four games last year. Four. Like not every team goes nine wins, 10 wins, 11 wins, 12 wins. Saints are in a rebuild. We all know that. So picking them the idea that eight wins or seven wins is a bad season is crazy. That is a huge huge step in the right direction. Right. That’s a bull tank bull losing record. Not even not even sniffing 500. So many problems at every position of your in your roster. Like what what is the problem? What is the real like what like you have so many problems on the on the who what is it? So you got to have some things go your way to get to seven wins. You got to have a lot go your way. You got injuries. You got to you got to avoid the defense five wins. Are we saying they got to have luck to have a losing to be two games under I think things got to bounce their way to go eight eight wins or seven wins. I think you have to beat Arizona or San Francisco and you have to beat you have to split with Atlanta Carolina and then you have to beat the bad teams like Tennessee and the Giants. Yeah, man. Cuz I we are saying or the Jets and the Giants, excuse me. We’re in a rebuild era. Yeah. But if if he does get seven eight wins year one with Kell Moore, I think that’s a W. Like that’s a Hell yeah. That is I mean guys, y’all have dementia. We won five games last year. So yeah, if you have a plus three, plus four, plus two even in the win column. Yes, he gets seven wins with this team and his roster right now. Let me get seven. He’s great Marshall of Endm. Hell yeah. Yes, he would. He’s king of the city. What? I would be a believer. I’m biggest Kell Moore fan at that point. I’m like, this guy turned uh what do you turn water into wine into water? Water into wine or something like that. Don’t do that. Don’t do that. Unless you’re going to put my high in drink.com. Stay hydrated. There you go. All right. Stay hydrated, guys. There you go, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for watching.
The New Orleans Saints open the 2025 NFL season against the Arizona Cardinals, but this matchup is NOT about Spencer Rattler or the quarterback position — and James Skrmetta is here to tell you why.
In this video, James Skrmetta breaks down the real keys to victory for the Saints: running the football, controlling the line of scrimmage, and getting the ball in the hands of playmakers like Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. If the Saints can establish their ground game and spread the ball around, they’ll take pressure off rookie QB Spencer Rattler and put themselves in the best position to beat Kyler Murray and the Cardinals.
We’ll talk about how the Saints’ offensive line matches up against Arizona’s defense, why balance is more important than headline QB debates, and what New Orleans fans should watch for in Week 1.
If you’re a Saints fan, Cardinals fan, or just love NFL breakdowns and betting talk, this is the place for you. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for daily New Orleans Saints content and NFL coverage all season long!

Rattler for the Win 🏆 ⚜️ Great video man !!
An NFL game is not about the QB? Thanks for coming in for the GM interview, but I think we're going in a different direction.
We can win if Spencer replicates Jalen Hurts performance Thursday
Which he is more than capable of
Mickey Loomis is the biggest problem. Botched draft picks and always having salary cap issues.
Rattler Mahomes prediction : Stats (Come back to this comment if im relatively close ) Ratt Man Goes 28-34 for 270 pass yards 35 Rushing yards 3 touchdown no interceptions ! Saints also win 24 -17 ! I believe in my QB put some respek on our new franchise QB name !!
WHO DAT?! One day from the first regular season game I'm so excited!
I got two tickets in a 100 section for $120 each. Don't ask me how. First ever game too
If you dont want to make a reaction video to the Kellen Moore interview I get it. However, in my humble opinion, it would be cool if you did react in general. I would be interested to hear what you think about his scheme talk, the OTB podcast specifically got into the x's and o's. I like your analysis on that kind of stuff.
Its not about Rattler he stinks
🤞🏾
The Only problem I see🧐, is that We Only had NINE Rookies, make the team….😮😂🥸😭⚜️⚜️ Hey Mickey….😁💪⚜️
Fire him now! Especially with the Horrible Coaching hires…. Wait.. Huh?🧐 Ohhhh Ookayy..😂 Kinda NICEY…
27-17 lets go! Big W coming
Not expecting much just compete
FOTF there's a timeline where every team in the NFC South starts 1-0 except the Bucs. Which would be hilarious.
That’s classy. Not reacting to exclusive interviews. Never even thought of like that. Respect.
Yes an 8 dollar ticket is a worst viewing than watching on your neighbors tv through your window.
I think The Titans will be the worst team.
I’m not sexist, but I cringe so hard when I hear a female talk shit about my Saints, like why tf is she even talking her opinion is peanuts
damnn FOTF is jacked
Biggest problem with the team is depth. It’s a steep cliff for the most part. That being said, Kellen seems to know this, hence all the acquisitions
I can’t wait for the first game because so many questions are going to be answered about this team!!!
Everything, for the most part, is “I don’t know” haha.
i don’t understand the negativity around this team i am itching to watch us tomorrow to show we aren’t as bad as people think.
Its Bizzarro week. We win handily
My tone is not changing, barring any major injury crisis this year 11-6 and an NFC South Crown 👑 WHO DAT ⚜️⚜️⚜️
it is ABSOLUTELY about Rattler!!!!……btw, Justin Fields is 14-30 for his career, with 7780 passing yards, 45 TDs & 31 Ints. Somebody post Rattler's career numbers (And leave out the excuses)
This must’ve been recorded before the Friday night game when Hebert balled hard! I still think there’s a chance we trade the whole farm for Justin Hebert next offseason if we move off our QB room.
Rattler is a lot better than the discredit he constantly gets. Hell look a lot different with all the starters. Watch him shock the league
If you didn’t take Shaheed in the 11th round in fantasy are you even a saints fan?
Win Loss record will be directly correlated with the injury bug. 6 wins totally possible with minimal injuries. When Foster and Taysom get back there’s going to be a serious bump in offensive performance. Not to mention toon second half of the season with Vele
🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍
I want to see local sports talk radio stop being a bunch of pessimistic turds.
2030 is not that far off. Its just over 4 years away… that is 1 rookie contract away. So there are olenty of teams that could have their franchise guy in house already…
I see James is speaking out both sides of his mouth again claiming 2030 is some super distant future event and yet its 1 contract away, by his own admission,"you hope to get a full contract out of these guys".
LMAO
Already deflecting before a snap is played.
This is pre-emptive excuse making
