Minnesota Vikings News Dump (9.7.2025) | Harrison Doubtful for MNF, Brady Backs JJ, Hate Watching

[Music] What’s going on, Jerome? Beautiful Sunday. Birds are chirping and stuff and it’s time for another Vikings news dump. So, of course, today is the day that uh first NFL Sunday of the season. It’s fantastic. Now, of course, we know that the real season doesn’t start until tomorrow night. It’s okay. But, uh, it’s not going to lie, it it’s kind of fun like when the Vikings play on Monday, Thursday, even Sunday night to a degree or on a by-week, just a Sunday afternoon of stress-free football. Uh, well, stress except for your your jelly beans as well as your fantasy teams, all that stuff. But, I don’t know, like I I feel like the NFL has tried to get more division games week one. Seems like that this year, right? There’s lots of storylines uh going around. You you got uh to the Tom Brady Bowl with the Raiders and the and the Patriots. You have San Francisco and Seattle week one. That’s great. Packers Lions. I cannot wait to just absolutely hate watch Packers Lions. I uh I’ve never rooted for the Lions. Still won’t. I’m rooting for the Asteroid. That’s what we’re doing. Uh and o overall it’s like, hey, it’s going to be an absolutely fun day. And of course, everyone’s waiting all day for Monday night. It’s not the song. Don’t care. But people know. People know that they can have their their pitiful Sunday afternoon. Vikings also play on Sunday night week too home opener. It’s it’s going to be fantastic. Also less than f well fantastic but less than fantastic. You know what I mean? Kevin Seafford, ESPN who’s not Kirbid. First time I’ve seen Harrison Smith at practice since August 11th. Christian Derisaw also on the field to start practicing report later today. So, Harrison Smith returning to practice uh on Saturday, the third uh practice of the week for the Vikings. Uh but ultimately, Aya. All right. So, Harrison, who was listed as limited on Friday. Okay. Uh limited on Saturday, uh list as doubtful. So, the the definition is expected not to play, which is understandable. So Harrison, you know, whatever’s been going on with him, he’s back in the facility, you know, back in the building, team captain, and you know, the season long. It’s 17 game season. If he has to miss a game, maybe two to get back up to speed, so be it. And Kevin McConnell even said, so talk about Harrison Smith. Uh Kevin Connell said this on Saturday. Harrison probably did a little more than I expected today, which was really encouraging, but it’s just a matter of time back on the grass. It’s definitely not mental. He’s been doing this long enough to stay sharp, but yeah, it’s more of a physical ramp up uh for him as we move forward. And Harrison, you know, with the undefined mysterious uh illness um yeah, like um like Seafford said, hasn’t practiced in almost a month. So, yeah, getting his getting his uh sea legs under him, you know, getting him back into game shape, knocking off the ring rust, it’s going to be paramount, but you know, it’s going to be good to go. and glad that you there isn’t a threat of him missing the season which would be good. Uh defensively, you know, Theo Jack, you know, remember the Vikings extended Theo Jackson. Nice little extension taking care of him. So, Theo Jackson, Josh Mattelis, uh maybe the Vikings will run more through quarterback looks with Rogers, Akuda, Murf, maybe carry on my Jayward son gets involved in there, too. So, I don’t know. Like, it will take a village to replace Harrison Smith. Uh but everything is going going to be good to go. Plus, this is probably Harrison’s last ride anyway. It’s not like they threw that money at Theo Jackson uh just all willy-nilly. So, Theo’s replacing Beey as well as probably the air apparent to Harrison Smith as Theo and Matelis are the two safeties, two veteran safeties on second contracts with the Vikings uh going into next year. Makes sense. Also, Kristen Darasaw list says questionable, but the fact that he’s been a full participant in practice, talk about practice, uh on Friday, Saturday, that does lead you to believe that he’s going to be uh good to go. You know, Kevin Con was kind of vague about it, but I feel like we’re playing games at this point. I think Darasaw is going to be in there and the Vikings offensive line from JJ McCarthy, baby. Darasaw, Jackson, Kelly, Fry, O’Neal leading the way in the run game. the the mall m a l of America uh protecting JJ McCarthy. It’s going to be good. Speaking of JJ McCarthy, of course, the storyline dour Monday Night Football is the NFL debut of JJ McCarthy in his home see well kind of Chicago land kid Bears fan growing up playing against the Bears. Monday Night Football national television it’s great. Also, TW Toman Braid is the greatest quarterback of all time. Uh, he went to back and went to bat talking about his guy JJ McCarthy. Of course, Michigan alums, hail to the V, although they’re going to lose to Oklahoma. It’s okay. Uh, but Brady said this about JJ McCarthy on on the Chris Collinsworth podcast. Uh, JJ won a national championship at Michigan. Like, he just slips that in right there. Uh, when you beat Ohio State like they did. Also love how he mentions that. JJ McCarthy never lost Ohio State. I wonder if he’s going to hold that over Diamond Jackson for years. Uh, and they performed the way they did in those big moments. There’s a lot of reasons to like the boys uh like the boys and composure and the physical ability is a really good uh pass of the football. He’s not he he’s got enough mobility to extend plays. He’s a very grounded kid. Got drafted high to Minnesota and now he’s got a chance to go prove himself. And it really doesn’t matter what Tom Brady thinks. He just went third person. No wonder Jazelle left or Chris Collinsworth or any well Chris Collinssworth CIS or anybody from the Minneapolis Tribune. I love it. He probably knows it’s the Minneapolis Star Tribune, but just like the Minneapolis Tribune, the book face. Uh it matters that what JJ thinks and what his teammates think of him. And I’m sure you know every game is not going to be three touchdowns, no interceptions. There’s going to be a lot of ups and downs. And again, when you’re in the NFL season, the one thing we do know is there’s uh there there’s adversity every step of the way. And McCarthy is right. Like also Emmy Leer of the Minneapolis Tribune had a great piece talking about McCarthy and, you know, being 22 and just being so grounded and having that that composure. I mean, it’s good and we’re we’re gonna see it on the field. So, I I I Hey, if the GOAT’s in your corner, we’re gonna be good to go. And also, let’s remember like everyone remembers like 07 Tom Brady just dropping piss missiles to Randy Moss and stuff. Uh but I mean Tom Brady like his first three Super Bowls, which you know, uh he won a Super Bowl in his second year starting by the way, taking over for Drew Bledo. I mean a lot of his stuff was the routine things, the checkdowns, finding the open man, operating the offense, not turning the ball over. Like that’s what the Patriots were the first three Super Bowls essentially. really great defense running the ball and Tom Brady who just dumping it off to Kevin Faulk. It’s what it was, right? And McCarthy, I mean, we’ll take three Super Bowls like that and then eventually he’ll become like the FU guy eventually. It’ll be great. But all starts week one. and Jaquan Brisker, pride of Penn State uh of the crooked Chicago Bears given a little bit bull bulletin board material box fan page Bears DB Jaquan Brisker seems confident that Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy will have a turnover on Monday night. Quote, eventually he will force one whether it’s in the air or on the ground. I know it’s going to come out at some point. End quote. So if you’re going to talk junk, I mean at least be accurate, right? Because yeah, McCarthy is a first time starting quarterback and young quarterbacks do make mistakes. It happens. But it’s not like JJ McCarthy was a turnover machine at Michigan where he went 27 to1 as a starter by the way. No one won the national title. No big deal. But I don’t know. 49 touchdowns to 11 picks. I feel like that’s pretty good especially for a guy who’s a game manager. So I mean Brisker Brisker is just talking nonsense now. It’s okay. They don’t even have a film room in the house hall because that would cost money. Yeah, it’s okay. Speaking of JJ, team captains, team photo. Love to see. Also, love to see Harrison Smith there. Yeah, it’s fantastic. But, uh, McCarthy, Justin Friaking, Jefferson, Aon Jones in year two, Andrew Depala, Bagels, all allp pro long snapper, Brian the real deal, O’Neal, Matelis. Why’ they put Mattelis in the back? Yeah. Harrison Smith as well as John Grard. More is required. Love to see that. But just seeing this, do you ever get the feeling that you’re living in a superhero origin story? Like you’re an NPC non-playable character as we’re watching like the loading credits for some some video game. It’s like Superman 4, the quest the quest for peace or something like that. I don’t know. Uh but either way, it’s feel feels good. Also, speaking of feeling good, Minnesota football in general. So, the the go Golden Golden Gophers beat the brakes off of something called Northwestern State University out of Louisiana. Basically, they’re the SCSU Mud Dogs. But yeah, uh but the Gophers put up six to six. They actually called the game short because of weather. They’re like, eh, yeah. Uh but the ran out fireworks. Uh the stupid gopher mascot did 5,000 push-ups. Kind of good to see. I absolutely love it, man. Really good. Also, uh, one of our friends kid got honored at halftime. Awesome. Love this stuff. And hey, I I want the Gophers to do well because I like PJ Flex style, even though it’s a little corny at times. Uh, we’re all about family. Forget about me. I love you. What does that even mean? Row the boat. I don’t know. But either way, like I obviously the Gophers are probably just gonna end up going eight and four as always. They they’ll go to the Capital One Bowl. Cool. But I don’t know, like how about we make a run one time, you know, just get into the playoff, make some noise, beat South Florida, which beat Florida. Probably going to be the uh group of five team this year, Dour. But I don’t know. Either way, it’s good. But I’m going to have fun today. Have fun today. Win the day. Make some chili. Do some things around the house. Uh just watch stress free football. Except for my stupid fancy team. They can’t score a damn point. Travis Hunter. Aya. Aya. Uh, but it’s going to be fun. And of course, we know the real football is tomorrow night. That’s right. So, uh, enjoy your Sunday. Hey, watch Lions Packers. Hopefully, they tie. That’s all. Anyways, that’s it.
