afternoon. It is, you know, it is, especially to start the season. A little bit bizarre both ways. Uh, between the extra points missed and the long red zone periods that occurred. U, it was just one of the bizarre wins. We played a crazy one like this here last year and we came out on the losing end. We came out this year and we won one. So, it’s one game. We’re not going to blow a lot of smoke, but it’s a big win for us because they fought till the end. What did you say about there? He played I mean, he played the entire game. If you watched him, he he knew the game plan inside out. He followed it to a tea. He played very fast as did a lot of other guys. And, you know, they fought hard. And our job was in the second half to win the game any way we can and we won it. There was a last minute change in your off No, we’ve been practicing it for a couple weeks now. So, you know, nobody ever asked the question, so it never came up. And, you know, he was he was going to start. He gave us our best chance to win because he was a hellacious run blocker. We started him out out there just in case of emergency and put Bredes in that center. When he looked so damn good out there, it became part of what we were going to do. And you know, that’s what we went with. They’re not taking nothing away from Charlie, but he wasn’t Graham was a tackle in college and he did a hell of a job out there and he was probably quicker footed, so to speak, in a run game and some of the things we were trying to do and it worked out for us. For him, this is this is nothing for him. They play a lot bigger game than the big house. They have a lot more people than Atlanta and in Tampa. So, this was a routine game for him. He’s up for the task. He’s everything we’ve been talking about since he got here. Uh, everybody’s starting to see it obviously because it’s real time and it’s a real game, but he plays with so much poise and Baker played with so much poise. He has some key runs. Obviously, the stat sheep didn’t light up for him, but managing and winning the game and doing what he had to do to win, he did everything that way. And I’m I’m proud of both of them. because we It’s always good to get the first weekend. It doesn’t weigh in until you play a couple more games and see where you fall in toward the end of the season. But it’s always great to get a division win. Very tough team. Obviously, that’s a talented group over there and we’ll have to see them again. But to get a good win for the first one of the season, for it to be a division opponent, that’s big for us. What can you say about your defense’s resilience today? I mean, the Robinson, you know, just thought they settled in pretty good after the first play. We kind of settled down and played our kind of defense. Thought we left some sacks on the field. Uh left quite a few, but they made a fourth down stop and they did a heck of a job in the red zone for however long we were down there. uh that seemed like it was an eternity from that standpoint, but almost had it done that way. But they fought, they played hard, they stuck together, they followed the game plan, they didn’t give up on it. And you know, with leadership like Levante and Vita and win, you know, those guys stuck together and they fought. Defense was very It was It was I mean, he’s a heck of a back. They got two of them. They got two hellified backs that’s going to wreak havoc on this league. for us to stop them from running the ball and making them check it down. That was huge for us. I mean, last year, I think they held it in the second game. They held it and they had a pretty good rush day. Today, it’s fortunate to keep that guy down. He can make a lot of people miss. Well, he didn’t struggle in coverage. He uh the first one he was out athleted. Bejian got him in open space and he ran. Second one he got he got greedy tried to go for the sack instead of take his man. So we had to get him back down and go with the game plan that way. Take away them two plays. He played a solid ball game. He has some big sticks himself and that’ll come with experience. I hope so. I got to see him when I go in there. But he went back in the game. But Lions going to go back anytime. I still got to see if he’s okay. Can you talk a little bit about him? He had some tough match up against he did a good job for the most part. Drake didn’t kill us all the way down the field. He’s going to get his catches. Uh other than one he messed up in the fourth quarter. I thought he played a solid game in the run game and the pass game. How strong were you when I’m not going to cuss here at the podium, but you know I was I was pissed to say the least putting it nicely. But you got to fight through those things and we got to overcome things in the first game of the season and you know they overcame them. He’s a heck of a player now. He’s a run defender and a pass defender. I don’t know if he has a corner his size 61 200 lb with that speed and quickness and play to run that’s around. He really does a good job in all areas of the game not just the pass game. You got a huge play in the return. We got one. That’s big. We feel like we got two returners and TZ and Cam and you know that helped us a lot. This is decision making. I think the faster the game speeds up, the calmer he is. And he understands what he has to do. And he understands when he has to run. He understands who he has to get it to. He can see when DBs are cheating and he can just I don’t know it’s a focus that he can see the field a lot better and a lot quicker and he’s calm under pressure. So he loved that about him. They blitzed them a lot early. They went a lot of zero coverage and it took us a while to get our feet under us offensively. We struggled the first couple drives, but once we got our feet up under us, I think everything slowed down and we were picking them up the right way and I think it settled down so he can throw down the field. Remember, we tried to run a little bit of base that looked like a nickel. a little nickel look like base and move him around some uh so he wouldn’t be stuck and he can be an active player and he was a very active player for us that way and really helped us in the run game as well the pass game. I know he feels like he should have had two more sacks than he should have but I like where he’s at. I like how he fits in here and you know he’s going to do nothing but benefit us. Good. I mean it’s good. you know, he has a young boy voice when he cusses, but other than that, uh, you know, once he got his feet under him and got in a rhythm, you know, I thought the game flowed pretty pretty pretty good for him. Zack. Zack. Zach is great. I mean, he was great the entire game. Uh, he was on it. We talked about things and we got through it pretty good. Well, initially from the replay we had upstairs, it was a catch over, you know, we it was in our favor, so we slowed it down. Then we got discombobulated and had to call the timeout and then they checked it from another angle and it was incomplete. So, it was just unfortunate. Hello friends. Yeah. Yeah, he made some unbelievable plays. Um, yeah, felt like an eternity that they were down there, uh, trying to score. Um, but looking at the clock situationally, we’re going to be above the two-minute warning with one timeout left. So, we look at that as two timeouts, at least get a good playoff on first down, can really run anything, get to the two-minute, and then gather your breath and go. So, um, really, I mean, we were looking to go down and score. It wasn’t about uh getting a field goal to tie it to overtime. We were looking to go score and had a few opportunities there. Um, and you know, obviously Mecha did a great job finishing it, but really, um, Mike draws a lot of attention. He he gets the safety to bite down on it, gets a one-on-one coverage for Mech, and, uh, Mech makes the easy play, so good for him. Let’s talk about your wheels today. I know you probably didn’t anticipate having to run as much as you did, especially as early as you did, but just how big was it for you to be able to rely on those scramles? You know, some of those options downfield. Yeah. Uh, there was there was a couple. um felt like it wasn’t really settled in the first half to be honest with you. It was a sloppy part of our our game offensively. We look back at the tape and got a lot of corrections to make, but yeah, on third downs when they play man coverage and do a good job of actually guarding it. Um yeah, we that means free lanes for me. Uh nobody’s accounting for me unless they have a spy, which they didn’t. So just trying to take advantage of that. Um yeah, and then just on top of that third down stuff, I mean I thought the O line played unbelievable. Um you’re looking at some of the pressures are completely on me. I got to flip the protection. Uh but you know that that’s that’s on me. So really proud of that group. Had Ben Bredesen at center, Gran Barton at left tackle. Um you guys didn’t know that, huh? Jokes on you. So that’s good stuff. Uh but yeah, I thought those guys played great and Michael Jordan in at left guard. So um yeah, proud of that group and we’ll look at the tape. Got a lot of things to work on, but it’s always, as I’ve told you guys before, it’s always better to learn and correct things from a win. Um, just honestly up to those guys and talk about putting the five in there, what what a chemistry we have going on and and going from there. Uh, but I was teammates with Michael and Carolina, so have a little history, been through some things together. Uh, but yeah, trust that guy. um extremely quickly. I I just think the way he carries himself. I’ve told you guys that it wasn’t a front. You guys saw it live today in person. He’s uh he’s the real deal. Um true professional. Doesn’t play like a rookie, doesn’t act like a rookie. Uh his head’s never spinning. So, he made made some unbelievable catches and plays today for us and obviously going to continue to lean on him. Um, so hopefully draw some more coverage towards him and Mike gets the ball again. Yeah. Um, a few of them I would say I moved on in the progression too quick. Um, I think I had some of the earlier reads if I just, you know, did it, took my time, read it out, and played it. U, but yeah, they they did a good job of taking out um the deep shots early on. really really trying to see if I was going to be patient and that’s why you know when I said we were sloppy um I think I could have taken a lot more check downs some underneath throws in the beginning to be more efficient instead of going three and out and so we’ll look at it but yeah they did a good job sinking underneath some throws today made a couple of big catches as well just how deep the room is yeah uh I mean he’s a guy that going back to last year that stepped up big time for us when receivers went down and just has he has a ton of experience in general. Uh we have great chemistry together. Um just a guy that brings energy and uh you know he’s able to beat man coverage and that’s something that you know you really can’t teach but when you have guys in that room that all of them really can beat man coverage. It’s great to have that. And yes, Shep Shep played great today. [Music] Robinson and then you guys were able to score after that. Just how big of a moment was that? Yeah, I mean that’s that’s complimentary football and that’s that’s really uh what you have to do on the road is when the defense makes a great play, great stop on a series, you got to go down and get some points on the board for them. And uh yeah, we’ll look at it. Um, I think we left a lot of things out there, but you know, a win’s a win. Not really. Um, I mean, yeah, we remember the fact that they beat us twice, but it’s new season, one and0, uh, is what what the goal was coming in here. Um, trying to do that against a divisional opponent on the road, and any way we can do it is great. And you know, some of these close ball games last year, we weren’t on the right side of it. So that it’s good to see that we can find a way to win. Johnson had really talked. I thought they were huge today. Obviously the return, you mentioned it set us up for good field position being able to go do that. Um yeah, and Riley kicks the hell out of the ball. I mean, I don’t know how he does it, but um yeah, anytime you can really truly flip the field when we’re not having success on offense, that’s great for us. And so, um that’s good. I told him after the game, he’s he’s going to be a problem in this division for a long time. Um I think he’s a great player. He’s decisive. Goes through his reads, trust his guys. Um yeah, he’s young, but he’s he’s got it. Thanks, guys. I love you. Hurry up.
