Giants vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (9/7/25) | MLB Highlights

Cardinals today with Sonny Gray on the mound lately. His, er, a has been climbing rather quickly no matter what the last few games have looked like. He is quite the competitor and we’re going to have to compete. We’re going to have to get some good pitches to hit. We’re going to get him up in the zone. Stay in the middle of the diamond. That’s the best chance you’d have out for Sonny Gray eight and five at home this year. A sub four, er, a, he’s been awesome here at Busch Stadium. You know, the Cardinals like Michael mcgreevy when he pitches , they usually win ST Louis brad 19 to 9 in Sonny Gray starts this season. They won 13 of them here at home. It’s Elliott’s birthday today. It is big fellows whack to second. Nice pick. And just in time for out number one. Well, that’s rude. It’s his birthday for goodness sake. Gray ahead of Thomas, the Giants shortstop and gets a big swing and a miss the Giants swinging in almost everything gray at nine pitch, 123, 1st innings, the right hander coming off, maybe the best outing of his big league career in Colorado Kaitan got it. Tang stayed with that fastball after one breaking pitch back to 94 for the strikeout. Got it change up again. That’s a pretty strong start. Sonny Gray struck out Willie Adam a 123 1st came out knew it didn’t even challenge that curveball back to back strikeouts for Sonny. Sonny Gray with a 1 to 2 pitch and he hacks at this one sending it to center field where Nathan Church plays the ball makes the catch six up, six down for Gray Mason got plunked last night, almost got hit by 10 here to start the second. And that’s how you pay back a brush back pitch. First hit of the game. Mason with a single to left his 41st hit since the all star break, a ground ball to short could be two. Adam is the second one. The relay to first a double play , a strong throw by Casey Smidt on the pivot. He’s been kind of babying the ball over there. Remember he got hit in the elbow by a pitch in Colorado. That’s the first time I’ve seen him throw hard yet. He got him with the high sweeper found the weakness in that approach and another strong inning for Tank. So one away giants, nothing cardinals, nothing here. Ground ball right side, nice play by Gorman. He bobbles it. Then the throw is in time to get the runner. Gilbert first base started to throw the ball, it squirted out of his hand. He grabbed it as he was falling and was able to somehow throw it over to Sonny Gray covering. That was well done, really good play and athletic play by that will take care of Kisner and the Giants strikeout number 1900 for Sonny Gray ends our third inning and we are still scoreless. Jordan Walker got the double that won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. Last night, he struck him out swinging and man, he challenged him a fastball right out toward the heart of the plate about belt eye and right by him, he got him with the slider down and in good recovery there by Kai wei chang after falling behind in the count new park, it’s a high fly ball to shallow. Right. Gilbert coming in. I think the wind is still knocking that down. Gilbert had a long way to go. Sonny Gray just rolling along here. Here’s Thomas 32. He threw the sinker down for ball four. That’s the first base runner for the Giants. They’ll take it 11. Adam does run the pitch taken the throw the tag. He is out. Giants will ask for just a moment to make sure, looked like it beat him there. Giants got a challenge though. After the review, the call is overturned. The runner safe francisco retained. Here comes the pitch and that’s a check swing. No, he went he swung at it ball in the dirt. Sonny Gray strikes him out for the second time. I guess he was, I guess he was guessing not that pitch for sure. Four strikeouts for Sonny back to work here in the bottom of the fourth, he got another one strike three on the fastball. A lot of confidence in his fastball today. Love it. He’s been getting strikeouts with the fastball. He has including the strikeout of Nolan Gorman back in the first inning picks on the first pitch and blasts the single to right. That’s the second Cardinals hit. Will he be swinging three and oh , I guess not the 30 pitch. He wasn’t and it’s a ball anyway. So a walk to win two walks two on first threat for the Cardinals. Here’s the JC, I think he got another one that was a swing strike, 37 strikeouts for 10, second, two down the pitch, swing and a miss and he strikes out on three pitches. I still don’t have a hit in this game, Jung Ho, maybe he’s the guy to get that first Giants. He’s been spraying hits around this series ball diving stops to JC from his knees. Nice play. This has been his best game defensively that he’s had for a very long time. He made a really good play on Ramos to start things off and that was not an easy play either that set the tone for him to two pitch a swing and a Miss Schmidt is out on strikes. That’s five strikeouts for Gray. That’s a four pitch walk to start the bottom of the fifth. You got to throw a strike here and walker departs all four back to back walks two on nobody out. So for me, your ninth place hitter, I would guess brad, this is a great opportunity to punt and four straight minutes. He’s walked the bases loaded. This inning has turned into a walkathon for kai wei Tang Bart has put the ball in play, hitting it in the air twice. A base hit one run scores. Church is going to be stopped at third with two strikes, breaks his bat and flips a single to center and the Cardinals have broken through for a 1 to 0 lead overall. Ka really good job by a tough way for his afternoon to end. And the Cardinals are thinking big inning, see jose coming up for the 49th time this season, but he’s trying to hold the line right here the best you can shot to right on the first pitch. Herrera will bring home a ride. Fermin stops at third station to station for the Cardinals Herrera with an ambush. It’s 2 to 0. Walkathon continues for giant pitch for this inning. It is a nightmare, especially for a team that’s knocking on the door of the wild card. First straight bases loaded. Walk 3 to 0. There is no defending of baseball balls and that’s exactly what they’ve had to deal with in this inning. Four of them. So Merrick go around continues. Mason win is next. He is singled and walked ground ball to second. That is going to score a run, but it’s a double play. Dupar comes home to make it 402 outs and all the way around to third is Herrera. No Army. I that’s the penalty for the double play but the Cardinals put it in play and add another run. JC zero for two. He got him with the slider. Well, all things considered he did a good job but the Cardinals score four and lead 4 to 0 and Gray walks back to back hitters so no hits for San Francisco. But now some opportunity Ramos Devers. Adam and smith are lurking swinging Sonny Gray, a big pitch number six in the strikeout column. Now the double play in order with Devers coming up, one swing would totally change this game if he catches a mistake here. See if Devers can get one. Devers up the middle base hit Gilbert coming to third and matt Williams is going to send him will be cut off. Rafi Devers just scolded that one for the first giants run. It’s 4 to 1 good swing and a nice job in the lower part of the order. That’s their first hit of the game and it scores a run. Adama. So the ball got by the catcher. How about that? It wasn’t that far outside when you were talking about the framing of Pages who’s trying to bring that one, crank it back. 32 pitch. That’s ball four. He was, I think certain that Adam was going to go after one of those last two, he wouldn’t do it. But you like where you’re at right now, at least with these opportunities find a way to get a ball into the outfield here. If you don smith and he goes after the first pitch into center field base hit, Devers will get the stop sign. The throw comes toward the plate from church. Tom Smith. First pitch swing, it’s 4 to 2. Still only one out, still bases loaded. Sorey goes five and a third innings. He had a no hitter brewing until Devers came up. Well, matt spot since been a revelation out of the Cardinals bullpens against matt Chapman. He goes after the first pitch and a liner into left field base hit. Adam had to hold up to make sure it got by the shortstop, Devers in to score. It’s 4 to 3 bases still loaded here is Jung Ho trying to get that tying run home came out outside corner. What a pretty pitch that was two outs, the pitch on the way, a swing and a drive deep right center field on the run on the run on the run. He makes the catch on the track and the Giants leave the bases loaded, something going on with the bottom of the order for the Giants and the Cardinals. They seem to be getting things going, especially for the Cardinals. They get the three walks in the fifth inning. Now you got back to back hits here, big spot here for Matt gauge. The left hander coming in. Giants just rallied for three runs down. One Cardinals have two on two outs on the ground. Schmidt Tom smith will hustle to get back to the bag and he does for out number three, gage stays in the game for the Giants. He will face Yvonne Herrera swing and a shot to the gap in left center Herrera with a thunder bolt. He’s got an extra base hit and the Cardinals have a chance to extend the lead after a leadoff double Herrera two for four today back into the bullpen, Tang Bau Bivens Gauge and now the fifth pitcher of the day win on the ground. Schmidt will keep it on the infield, throws him out at first. What a play Casey Schmidt man, fantastic play glove side dive. Jenny is trying to keep this a one run game struck him out swinging nasty from Peguero just like that. The Giants have a runner in scoring position. That’s just a great job by Wilmer. Not only a great at bat, the only way Wilmer gets there is right away to be busted at 100%. Can’t do your job better than that. Yeah, they’re gonna walk. Chapman. You got Jung Ho Lee runners go. Yes. Joe Joe Romero strikes out a pair in the eighth inning. Riley o’brien. Tall, slender right hander in from the cardinal bullpen Schmidt had a really good at bat his last time up with the bases loaded and two down hit one into the gap in right center that was caught, flips one out to shallow. Right. And that’s a base hit, you hit it hard, it gets caught, you do that, it’s a leadoff single, whatever it takes, you got a chance here in the ninth, not broke bat. This one to right church on the run and makes a catch at the line, that ball down at 2nd and 3rd. What a good move having him in right field. That is why it’s exactly why you do defensive replacements late in games when you have a short lead or a small lead because that can be a game changer, well done. Broken bat roller to second. There’s one, the Cardinals have won it ninth inning, disappointment two days in a row for the Giants yesterday, giving up the runs and today with the help from outstanding Cardinals defense, the Giants come up short and fall today 4 to 3, the final score. You can see the disappointment in the Giants dugout.

  1. What another frustrating game for us! At least we took 4-6 this roadtrip! Let’s hope we seriously win tomorrow and I’ll be at tomorrow’s game 9/8 & hope Logan Webb has the power tomorrow! Let’s just end the season with a winning record if we don’t make it in the postseason.

  2. What a win against the "hottest team" in baseball. That's all they kept saying about SF on the Fox broadcast game the night before when they also lost. Go Cards, you're still in this!!
