The regular season for Single-A has come to an end…although it’s not the end for the San Jose Giants nor the Eugene Emeralds, as both teams have postseason berths clinched.  Meanwhile, one Giants prospect (a formerly ranked one) hits his first home run of the entire season, and Bo Davidson reaches a new season-high for the Richmond Flying Squirrels.  And finally…today was the last game in the history for one team.

Game Note:

This was the final game in Modesto Nuts history.  They won’t be in the playoffs.  Next season, a new team will begin play in Ontario, the as-yet unnamed Ontario Sky Mules, playing as part of the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system.

The Seattle Mariners (the current Nuts affiliate partner) will now be affiliated with the Inland Empire 66ers.  The Los Angeles Angels (currently partnered with the 66ers) will take over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (the current Dodgers affiliate).

ACL & DSL: Seasons Over

Playoff Plans:

Eugene Emeralds:

With only six teams in the Northwest League, there is just a single playoff series for the Championship.  The Emeralds, the 2nd half winner, will face the 1st half winning Everett AquaSox.  The series will be a Best-of-5, beginning on Tuesday and Wednesday in Eugene.  The final games, up to three, will be played in Everett beginning on Friday and be played through Sunday if necessary.

San Jose Giants:

The California League has a two-round postseason system, that features the first half and second half winners of each division facing off in a Best-of-3 series for the first round.  San Jose will be facing the Fresno Grizzlies for the first round, with the first game on Tuesday in Fresno, and Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) on Thursday and Friday.

The California League Championship series will start on Sunday, September 14th at the North Division champion’s home, and the final two games at the South Division champion’s home on Tuesday the 16th and Wednesday the 17th.  The South Division series will be between Rancho Cucamonga (1st Half winners) and Inland Empire (2nd Half winners).

  1. Christian hitting well in high-A is a VERY good sign for a college draftee. Is there a chance he begins next season in Richmond? Eugene’s outfield will have Gutierrez, Jordan, and Cohen next spring.

  2. hard not to get excited about Rodriguez as a backup catching prospect. You responded to me indicating he needs more time behind the plate, and you have a more intimate perspective. I am just so impressed that every time you look at the box scores he seems to have at least one hit, consistency is his game. Do you think they put him in the AFL in preparation for bringing him up next spring, or will they give him more seasoning in triple A next year?
