Harrison Smith Officially Ruled OUT for Vikings-Bears, Won’t Travel with the Team

[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? So, unfortunately, uh, missile define Vikings announced Sunday afternoon that safety Harrison Smith, future Hall of Fame safety Harrison Smith, uh, with a illness has been downgraded to out and will not travel with the team. So, there’s starting to be a couple things that are concerning about this, right? So number one is not traveling with the team. It’s a 45minute flight to Chicago O’Hare. It’s like 6 hour drive and generally like veterans like even if they’re injured will travel with the team support their team especially this one home opener team captain team leader I feel like Harrison would want to travel with the team but it feels like he’s maybe not allowed to. I don’t know. I don’t know like med medically is he not allowed to fly? Like I don’t know like obviously this personal medical issue it’s uh obviously they want to keep it private but I don’t know there’s just a lot a lot of odd things you know with this one and Kevin McConnell talking yesterday uh Harrison did practice in a limited fashion at the end of this week. Harrison probably did a little bit more than I expected today Kevin McConnell talk about uh which was really encouraging but it’s just a matter of time back on the grass. is definitely not mental. He’s been doing this long enough to stay sharp, but yeah, it’s more of a physical ramp up uh for him as me we move forward. And yeah, it’s understandable like like Cameron Hayward out there just trying to play immediately. But Harrison hasn’t practiced from August 11th to September 6th yesterday and it is described as a personal medical issue and I’ve said this before like obviously doesn’t need to address it. Obviously the team knows what it is. Obviously the beat writers also know what it is too but I don’t know the non-disclosure is kind of odd because now like all the rumors all the conjecture like there there’s been some wild ass just like rumors and speculation which you know uh but it’s not a mental not mental health related uh per Ben Gestling of the Star Tribune expected to make a full recovery per ESPN Kevin Seaffort who is not Carl Gerber as well as this was an interesting note that at not Carl Gerbishment put in there is being evaluated weekly, aren’t we all? But also, uh, Alkas the Athletic did note that his health health is improving. So, again, it’s something that the Beat Riders obviously know know what’s going on, but I feel like there’s a there there’s like an understanding, you know, to keep this quiet, which is fine. Uh, but also, it’s important to note that Harrison was not placed on short-term injured reserve. Uh, so the Vikings do expect him back uh sooner rather than later. So, I don’t know. But, uh, in terms of of gamewise, uh, practically, uh, it does curtail what the Vikings can do with their three safety looks. Uh, but also it could be maybe you’ll see some carry on Jayward Sun on defense. Uh, they could be calling up Khalif Hassie or the veteran Cavan Wallace. Uh, as well as you’re probably going to have to see a lot more three-c corner looks with Rogers, Akuda, and Murf. Uh, since Matelis can’t kick into the safety spot, uh, excuse me, the slot corner spot so easily. So, I don’t know like the Vikings it is a next man up mentality and with Harrison it’s you know less him being a physical monster you know like his allp pro days back in 2017 but just communications on on the back end especially with this young secondary uh as well as a bunch of new new uh new uh faces and places but also uh they’ve been practicing without Harrison for the better part of a month so Com should be uh good to go in that regard but either way you Hoping for the best for Harrison Smith, you know, whatever’s uh going on. But again, the not travel thing. It’s a bit odd, but we’ll see. Anyways, your thoughts, your thoughts.   5. Why have we done nothing to make the team deeper at that position when knowing about this for so long.. all the best to Smith but if he is not ready to play then coaches should just take that decision for him..
    Or do something to prevent us being thin as ** in the secondary.. we play with 9 DLinemen now and no secondary or what?
    Knowing about this and still roll with only 4 CBs and not really do anything to help our safety group
    I do hope Harrison is okay.. honestly im a bit worried about him but bad team management aswell in this case..

    So is it time to look at our draft picks now? The conditions of picks and all that stuff 😅

  7. Cant help but think why he isnt either on PUP or NFI list? Let him get time then we would have a spot either could sign a CB maybe Gilmore or look at a replacement at safety 🤔

  27. Could be that it is something contagious, something that is fine in the open air, but not so fine in an enclosed cabin.
    More likely could be something that could prevent him from sitting comfortably in a chair for the duration of a flight.
    Hope he gets better soon.

  28. On a serious note, could it be a serious diagnosis? Something like a carcinoma or clotting? Just wierd that they're being so low key about his whole ordeal. Regardless, best wishes sent to Harrison and his family. Hope he recovers fully and quickly, football aside.

  34. There has been an uptick in COVID cases. I'm sure it's that. Makes sense he can't travel with team. May have started as something else and with weak immunity picked up covid??
