Shohei Ohtani saves the day, Yankees win BIG series vs. Blue Jays | Morning Lineup (MLB Daily Recap)
This one swung on well, hit to center field heading back. It is gone a leadoff home run for Hale to his 12th leadoff home run this year tying a single season Dodger record set by Mookie Betts a couple of years ago, the Dodgers with a 10 lead and home run number 47 for Otani from mlb.com. This is the morning Lineup podcast. I’m your host, Matt Mo. Today is Monday September 8th and the Dodgers did not look good heading into Sunday’s finale against Baltimore. Like I think the city was talking about not letting them back in the stadium after their road trip, but they have that guy who’s like, Babe Ruth, but better and he did some things. The big dumper and the Mariners dumped all over the Braves. The Yankees are creeping closer to that top spot in the A L East and could Jose ramirez be leading the Guardians out of nowhere to October glory? Of course, he could. He’s jose Ramirez. Let’s get to it. The Dodgers were in trouble. They lost five games in a row heading into Sunday’s finale against the Orioles. They had a losing record against losing teams during the second half on Saturday, they had a no hitter with two outs in the ninth, all three to nothing and they somehow lost 4 to 3. That is not ideal. So who do you turn to, to correct a losing streak and make a statement game? Who else? All right, center field carrying back toward the wall. It’s out of here. A leadoff shot from Shohei to give the Dodgers the first lead. Shoya Tone turned the first strike of the game on Sunday into his 47th home run of the year. It’s his 12th leadoff home run of the season tying a Dodgers franchise record set two years ago by current number two hitter , Mookie Betts T ins later, shohei Tutut Tai Tai Deja Vu right center field and gone two plate appearances, two bombs, two nothing Dodgers his 48th home run in 2025. That’s a lot of home runs. That was enough for Clayton Kershaw went five and two thirds innings giving up two runs while striking out eight L A got a much needed 5 to 2 win to stay a game ahead of the Padres who have also been spiraling but knocked off the Rockies 8 to 1. Manny Machado hit his 23rd of the year and Jackson Merrill hit his 10th while Dylan T gave up just a run over five innings. The wild wild nl West, the Mariners lead on the final wild card spot in the A L has been getting kinda tight entering Sunday. There are three teams within a few games of Seattle for that third spot. The Guardians, the Rangers and the Royals a good way to counter that. How about scoring eight runs in the third inning? Here’s the pitch to Julio swing on, smashed to third base. It’s off of Alvarez. It scoots into left field. Robles will score randy right behind him. He’s gonna score. Here comes Cal, he’s rumbling around third. The throw home, he slides, he is safe. The Mariners score three. Julio Jorge Polanco in his 24th homer and josh Naylor his 18th in the frame to give the Mariners an early nine to nothing lead. Seattle would want to score 18 runs. 18, those are slow pitch softball numbers. They beat the Braves 18 to 2 and you know, if they’re gonna score 18 runs, the big dumper is not, not going to hit a home run. Here’s the 21 pitch swinging a drive straight away center field deep Harris going back looking up goodbye. Baseball number 53 for Cal Raley. Holy Smokes. The magical year continues. Cal Raley’s 53rd of the season. He’s not just one away from tying Mickey Mantle for the most home runs hit by switch hitter in one year. Luis Castillo gave up just a run with six strikeouts over six moving his er, a to 3.85. The Mariners are a game and a half up on the Rangers for that last wild card spot. Texas beat the Astros 4 to 2. Find a great start by Patrick Corbett. He gave up a run and struck out 5/5 and two thirds. Jake Berger Berger also in his 14th of the year with the Astros loss. The Mariners now just 2.5 games back of them for the first place in the A L West. Coming up the Yankees flunk some A ros at the Blue Jays. Some Rice. Ok. Some Ben Rice. That’s after the break. It was a big series for the Yankees coming into the weekend three games against the Blue Jays while three games behind the Blue Jays for the top spot in the A L East. The Yankees lost game one on Friday one game two on Saturday to get back to three games. And on Sunday, the pride of Dartmouth got the Bombers going early, driven deep to right field, going back is Springer turning looking, see you a home run for Ben Rice and just like that, the Yankees lead three nothing, an early three to nothing lead on Ben Rice’s 23rd of the year. The Jays fought back with the help of a Vlad junior double. He had a great series in the Bronx but Max Reed was too strong giving up just three runs in seven solid innings of work swing and a Miss strike three kind of Flaa down looking swing and a miss on the breaking ball. Lucas Don strikes David Bednar shut the door in the night for a crucial 4 to 3 victory. Fried is not tied for the league lead with 16 wins on the year. Most importantly, the Yankees move to just two games back of Toronto for the A L East crown with 19 games to go. The Jays face the Astros next at home while the Yankees will host the Tigers Ds could get wacky elsewhere around the league 12 pitch swinging him is he struck him out, climbed the ladder with 98 for his eighth strikeout of the afternoon. And Jacob Mazurowski gets through seven while retiring the last 13 that he faced the MS kid. The mizz of Milwaukee. Jacob Mizar had his longest outing of the year going seven innings and striking out eight and attended two Brewers win over the Pirates. He gave up just a run on three hits. Andrew Vaughn went four for five with a double and an RB I as the Brewers continue to pulverize the competition. There are 89 wins on the season. Hunter Greene struck out 12 in a huge Sunday in series win over the Mets. He gave up just a hit and a run over seven out. Brendan, bro in the prospects debut, bro, took a no hitter into the but ended up giving up three runs in those six frames. Green is now 6 to 4 with a 2.59 A in the year and the Reds are four games back on the Mets for that final wild card slot. The Dbacks four game win streak and push toward that final nl wild card slot was halted by the Red Sox on Sunday as they lost 7 to 4. Brian Bao gave up just three runs over six while Trevor Story added two hits in the victory. The Sox move to 3.5 back to the Blue Jays for first place in the A L East and hold on to that second wild card spot. The D backs move 4.5 games back to the Mets for that final nl wild card spot. The Giants. Another team chasing wild card glory, aren’t we all lost to the Cardinals 4 to 3. Sonny Gray took a no hitter into the sixth to get his 13th victory while Yvonne herrera added two hits and an RB I San francisco is now four games back of the match for that last wild card spot in the A L wild card chase Jose. It’s a third ball right over the chalk down the left field line all the way into the corner. Angel Martinez scores the tying run. Jose is going for three. Here’s the throw, he is safe and that passed Jim Toy for second place on the Cleveland all time. RB I list. The guardian stayed hot taking three of four from the rays with a 2 to 1 win on Sunday, Jose Ramirez, the most underrated player to ever play baseball passed jim Tome in RB I total for second in franchise history.
