Will Connor McDavid Really Leave the Oilers?
He might not sign in September. I’ve always said the biggest surprise to me is if Conor McDavid isn’t an Oiler next year. That would be the shock to me. Whether he signs in September, November, January, next May, it’s kind of irrelevant at the end of the day when he signs. As long as he signs. Now, if he doesn’t sign, that would be that would be a big surprise to me. For sure it would be. I would uh I I I would really question it to be honest. If his whole goal is to win, why is he leaving the place that gives him a really good chance to win? Like where’s it going to go that’s better? Honestly, think about it. Where’s it going to go that’s a better? Now you might say it’s equal, okay, but where is it going to go that’s going to be better chance to win than in Edmonton? I don’t I don’t see

The “or no term” interview was eye opening.
Well if they have a crappy season and/or somehow lose during the first rounds of the playoffs then it really shouldn't surprise you if he doesn't sign by, like you say, next May, right?
Not a popular take but if I'm the Oilers I look to move him NOW! His contract isnt just about NOW, he wants certainty about the future and the truth is, the Oil have no future via their pipeline or draft collateral, thats FACT. The haul in a trade could address some of that and you get cap relief. Ten years now and NO Cup, time to go another path for both parties IMO.
He will sign but no more than 4 years
