Looks like news is heating up of a potential deal between Quentin Grimes and the Sixers.

The Sixers will want to remain under the tax after making a deal with Grimes. This is where a potential trade involving Drummond or Oubre comes in.

Seems more likely the Sixers will look to move Drummond. With Adem Bona and Johni Broome on this ballclub, and Bona seemingly ticketed to be the backup C, Drummond ultimately is of no use to the Sixers.

Sixers have quite a lot of second round picks to move and there is definitely a possibility of making a deal happen here and getting off Drummond's contract. Think a deal happening here would be what portends to Grimes being signed. That'd be the first domino.

  1. If we somehow trade KO and still have Drummond, Gordon and Lowry on this roster that might be my breaking point for the year.

  2. Trade both for a late first round pick Daryl. You won’t!

Edit: Haha why are you guys so miserable that you’re hating on a dumb joke. Must be Kelly groupies.

  3. I’m surprised we didn’t trade Oubre. Maybe morey wanted something and didn’t want to dump him with picks tho

  4. I think both of them are redundant. Whichever of the two doesn’t get traded now will probably be gone at the deadline I would guess.

  5. So Yabu walks to the Knicks for nothing.

And if this is true, then Drummond has negative value and requires attached picks to get off his salary.

Separately, I liked the Grimes trade.

But… shouldn’t Morey have had more foresight at the deadline last season?

  6. This is a cap decision: Grimes or Oubre.

    I’d rather have Grimes.

But Daryl needs to find a 3/4 to bolster the rotation. Otherwise we’re flush with 1-2s and bereft of wings.

  7. If Bona and Broome are the only backup centers on the roster they’re really not trying to compete this year.

Best case scenario Embiid plays 50 games. That’s 30 games where Bona starts and Broome is the backup center. Couple that with being extremely undersized at the forward spot, it’s barbecue chicken

  8. I will be pretty upset seeing Oubre go if it’s just to stay under the tax or to help get off Drummond.

We know he’s not a needle mover, but he loves philly and has been one of the few reliable players over the last few years who avoids injury, isn’t overpaid, and is rarely a ‘negative’ on the court. And fits our new hustle culture with the young kids..

I mean, are we seriously just planning to run 8 guards and 2 undersized backup centers this year??

  9. Kelly’s a favorite of mine and I have his jersey, so I would hate to see him go. But after last season they can do whatever really

  10. Trade literally everyone. This team will be competitive in 2030 at best. The longer we take to realize that, the farther that gets pushed out.

  11. Sixers would still have to sign someone else to get to 14 spots if they trade Drummond. Maybe they take someone back with a lower salary from the Nets since the Nets have too many players right now iirc

  12. The thing with Daryl is that he’s really good at drafting and saving his job.

But he still keeps making these dumbass margin signings that continually backfire and he’s gotta give up assets to get off of.

  13. Still don’t think bona is ready for prime time…..too foul prone…..at least Drummond can stay in game

  14. If we trade KO and drummond just to the owner save some money, I will lost any hope on this franchise. They have make trades to improve the team
