Packers are a “really scary team,” time to buy in a Rodgers-Steelers stock? | FIRST THINGS FIRST
Friday, first things first. Live from the Power and Lightress District in Kansas City, 3 to 6 Eastern, 2:00 to 5:00 Kansas City time. Somewhere between 1 and five QB ranking for Jaylen Herz live on Friday on Fox Sports One. What? You don’t think he stopped by? Just Jaylen Herz. We haven’t been Fox Sports One in 8 years. I mean, what what does the FS stand for? It’s just FS1 sports. I’m just telling you it’s just FS1. Greg Jennings is here. He won a Super Bowl. Michael Parsons played less than half the snaps, but the Packers were at full speed against a Lions team that honestly looked overmatched. Shout out to JLo there. I didn’t I missed that. Uh golf yesterday before the final drive. No, he said JLo. Oh, I thought you said JLo. That would have been great. Uh no touchdowns. Pass rating at 75. Uh what is the bigger story for you, Brew? The Packers win or the Lions loss? I think the Lions lost is big and that they they looked completely different from they have the last two seasons and they look like they missed Ben Johnson. But that said, it’s got to be the Packers win. I mean, the Packers looked phenomenal, I thought, on both sides of the ball. Obviously, Jordan Love, JLo threw it well. Matthew Golden didn’t have a huge game, but still the the receiving core as a whole looked really good. You still got Josh Jacobs doing his thing and defensively they manhandled Detroit. Here’s his stats with Micah on the field verse off. He’s on the field for 29 plays off for 36. Three sacks in the 29 he’s off cuz obviously as we talked about when the trade was made when he’s out there you have to pay so much attention to him that it opens things up for Rashan Gary and the others. Gary had a sack and a half and Le gave up less than three really two and a half yards per play when Mike’s on the field. Basically five yards a play when he’s off it. So, and he was obviously not fully engaged in knowing what they’re doing defensively. So, they are just and this what I’ve said about them too beyond Micah. They they’ve been the youngest team in the league the last three years. So, the guys they have on their team are getting better, the younger guys. And now you have a superstar and maybe JLo will become a star. Like they look like they have it all. Yeah, this was about the Packers to me. Clearly, like we all understand who the Lions are and what Dan Campbell wants that team to represent. A physical bunch of guys is going to be the most dominant and physical team anytime they step on the field. That was clearly not the case yesterday. Like when you watch and it from defensively, just the defensive front, the line of scrimmage was controlled both offensively by Green Bay and their offensive line cuz Jordan Love was untouched like he he stood back there like unbothered and defensive linewise. They wreaked havoc and controlled that line of scrimmage. They didn’t allow them to run the ball at all. They didn’t allow Jared Goff to get into play action and hold the ball and go down the field. They they eliminated all of those things and that was without Micah on the field. And so when I saw that and then you add Micah and all the things that you just said, this is a really scary team. And so what Jeff Hafley has done and been able to do, you talked about the youth, but the way he’s going to be able to utilize those guys and the depth that he has at a lot of those positions. And we’re not even talking about the offense, right? It’s This is an impressive team. Yeah. U has the Well, actually, is Micah Parsons that good of a football player? Fever broken yet, or we need another game? No, I just don’t know. I know Dan Campbell before the game told everyone who would listen. Yeah, you know, we were actually kind of happy about the trade because we were so afraid of Kenny Clark. I know that. I was watching pregame and Teddy Bruski is like, “Yeah, Micah Parsons is a guy that can lose you a game, though, because of the culture he brings into your locker room.” I remember last week on this show and others, it was like, “Well, actually, I know it hasn’t been talked about in the half decade he’s been in the league, but the guy just ruins your run defense.” Well, yesterday the Lions ran for less yards than they have in almost two full years. They’re ran for 46 yards. And again, idiots that don’t understand football but just watch all the games like me was like, I don’t know. When I watch Michael Parsons play defense, it seems like he impacts the quarterback almost every play. And yesterday, I’ll show you four plays. One he got a stat on. The other three he caused. First play as a Packer. Yes. He collapses the pocket. Golf panics and negative -2 yards. Okay, that’s pretty good. A little bit later, Micah Parsons, he gets zero stats on this play. He causes the interception. Y a little bit later, he again gets zero stats on this play. And that’s Pane Sul that he is collapsing in. And then at the end of the game, it’s like, okay, I guess it’s time for me to get one stat as I pretend to be a cheetah. Uh going after a wounded Gazelle. and Gazelle’s probably apologies to Gazelle’s out there for comparing your running to Jared Goff. You understand the point I’m making? And so the the story there is Micah Parsons turns out as awesome at football as he’s been every stop. And the commentary surrounding it I thought was insane after the trade. Go ahead KW. So I I had a question for Greg. I thought that was excellent. Yeah. The interesting thing talking to you and coach is that you guys see kind of like both like highlevel football. Not that you don’t, we do too. Highlevel like X’s and O stuff and at the same time just like I’m not this is going to sound weird but like basic stuff like you a lot of times you talk about like identity and like what I would call vibe. the fact that you’re saying, and tell me if I’m putting words in your mouth, that the Lions identity that we’ve seen the last few years, you did not see show up against the Packers, and that was concerning. Not very concerning. And a lot I know naturally offensively, we’re going to say, okay, man, Ben Johnson was missed. Is he going to be missed? Yes, I think we all kind of understood that that was going to be the case. So shall Aaron Glenn on the defensive side. But for your players to not really show that physicality that we’re accustomed to seeing, they don’t have the same players. They don’t have the same. They lost that. They lost the interior interior offensive line. It’s huge. And I I understand that, but they’ve been so good at retooling and having guys step up and just continuing to sustain that. It It was You didn’t see it at one point in the game. And if you don’t protect golf, you don’t get golf. Absolutely. and KW, we said five great teams last year that everyone had in the playoffs. Eagles, Lions, Bills, Ravens, Chiefs. Mhm. I don’t think any of those five feel A+ about their games this weekend. No. You know what I mean? Like the But I think the Lions feel the worst. Chiefs might be second worst feeling right now, but I think the Lions of those five teams right now feel like and the Packers probably feel the best. They probably had the most impressive win of the week. Lions defense, zero sacks, zero takeaways. drops with some INT two quarterback hits. Uh, all right. From the Packers current quarterback to their old quarterback, Aaron Rogers, he went back to New York, put on a show, four touchdowns, almost 250 yards against his old team that told him they were not interested in his services. Greg, is it time to buy stock in Rogers and the Pittsburgh Steelers? You know, before the season started, I was out on the Steelers, out on Aaron Rogers. Um, and when you as you ask me about this stock, I like what stock? I don’t care about any Steeler stock. I am asking today how much is it just to just to kind of know what I would be getting myself into because uh if Arthur Smith is going to be able to call that type of a game and I think he deserves a lot of credit and Aaron has alluded to the organization and the structure and the organization being attributed to why this team is always successful and always in it. If they can get this type of play 75% of the time, I think none of us will, as concerning as it was yesterday with their run defense and not being able to stop the run and allowing that amount of points, I don’t think anybody truly feels like, oh man, they won’t be able to turn around defensively. Offensively, I didn’t see this. like getting the ball in the receivers’s hands, mixing in a lot of the things that Aaron loves to see and do as far as uh splits wise, the inside fades, getting the ball out of his hands. Yes, he took four sacks, but you’re going to get that because he’s not as mobile as he used to be. But Arthur Smith did a great job getting the ball out of his hands, putting the ball in the playmakaker’s hands, and obviously Aaron being accurate and showing us that he does still have a little bit left, which I I believe all of us felt like he can have these types of games. Can he sustain it throughout the course of 17 weeks? That’s the question. Yeah, I mean, he look look we we talked last week, do we expect a throwback game? I did not expect a throwback and I thought he played well and they would win. But he looked great. He looked like kind of the old other than the mobility or lack thereof the old Aaron Rogers. His accuracy. DK Metaf was a big deal like running after the catch and stuff. That’s big for them. But I’m still where I was at going into the season. I think they can win 10 games and maybe they will make I didn’t pick them to make the playoffs but they obviously look better if you were still doing right after that the way they look better than Cincinnati but yeah but I look how good are the Jets that’s and you’re right you mentioned the defense you would expect Pittsburgh’s defense to get better it was horrific yesterday you couldn’t stop the pass of a quarterback that’s not viewed as a good passer you couldn’t stop the run when you know that’s what they’re doing. They ran for almost 200 yards on you. Uh and offensively, again, what’s the Jets defense like? So, I I think they’re a pretty good team that’ll be in the mix, but I’m And I’m definitely not I don’t care how good they look. I will not You guys know where I’m at on Rogers. I will not pick them like to possibly get to the Super Bowl. I just don’t think he’s going to deliver in that those big moments. Can I get your reaction from this Justin Fields quote that I absolutely love? I’m just calling it for what it is. They acquired all these guys during the off season, future Hall of Famers on that side of the ball and we put up 32 and there were still plays we left out there. Now granted, one of those Hall of Famers, if he’s referring to Jaylen Ramsey, ended the game, but do you think Pittsburgh’s defense was a question mark or is that just going to round? Yeah. No, I think that Pittsburgh’s defense and offensive performances were the best and worst they’ll have this year. And I think that I fluke is, you know, too judgmental of a word, but I don’t think either one of those is sustainable. And I know Steeler fans right now are like, “No, no, no, you’re totally wrong. The defense was a fluke, but the offense was not.” Like, okay, I don’t I I think they both probably were. And again, owing the audience honesty, if I was going to buy stock in the Rogers in Pittsburgh, that press conference answer is one of the reasons I cannot. Wow. Because this it the New York Jets franchise bent over backwards for two years hiring your darts buddy as the offensive coordinator, your old teammates as receivers doing everything for you and you still feel slighted. And that to me is the disposition of a person that when the going gets a little tough, I don’t expect to be a galvanizing force. And it’s just and so I don’t think it’s going to, you know, I it it’s in a different way. It’s the I think this press conference is a little bit like next step learn how to dominate. Like remember after they won in week two or week it reminded me a lot of that press conference after right and so we’ll we’ll see. But Greg, if I I never bought stock, but if I had, I’d give it to you. Uh 28th game with four touchdowns, no interceptions. Most all time tied with Brady. So thanks for watching. As usual Nick is never Wright…
This might be the funniest episode ever! Kudos to Nick for realizing that a much-needed apology was owed to gazelles for comparing their running to that of Jared Goff and, moreover, for pulling the sham out from under the carpet by ridiculing the stooges who drank the Cool-Aid Jerry Jones poured them and immediately thereafter saw only serious flaws in Micah as a player and teammate!
Not once did they mention how trash Goff was this game he didn’t have a good game held the ball to long, are we gonna pretend that when the Qb is elite he can’t sack him
Brou stop calling him J lo lol
Shouldn't make pics until after the 2nd or 3rd week
Nick Wright wears the best suits on tv……of course, it's Klutch Sports money with Lebron signing the checks………but FS1 doesn't care….apparently.
So it's okay for other players to be mad at a team when they let go of them but not Rogers got it
Wow, Greg got jokes 😂
Packers looked great against…the Lions. Who are completely lost. They will be good don’t get it wrong, but we can’t act like the Lions are even close to the same team
CLOWNS!!!! Eat It!!!!!
Really quick segment of the Steelers, Okay uh huh Shut-up!!!
HERE WE GO!!!!!
Last few years the Jets had a great defense? 😂 Come on Brou
Putting Eagles Chiefs at the second slot on Sunday is a crime
Couldn’t have said it better than a a wounded gazelle lol
All the negative Micah Parsons BS since the trade was nothing but COPE for what they feared was coming…and lordy lord did it ever show up..Packers are legit
Rodgers takes 0 accountability for anything that went wrong on NY wich is ridiculous 🤔
The Jets are better than people think
Greg is hilarious 😭😭😭
Greg is always great. Good show today
As the season progresses, the Rodgers' contempt will gradually grow more irrational. Nick's foot
