Cincinnati Reds at San Diego Padres LIVE MLB Postgame Show Chatterbox | Podcast, Recap, Highlights

As the 2025 MLB regular season enters its final three weeks, the Cincinnati Reds (72-71, third in the NL Central) embark on a crucial nine-game West Coast road trip, kicking off with a three-game series against the San Diego Padres (78-65, second in the NL West) at PETCO Park. First pitch for Monday’s opener is set for 9:40 p.m. ET, broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network Ohio and Padres Television Network. With the Reds clinging to faint wild-card hopes—trailing the New York Mets by four games—and the Padres battling the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West crown, just 2.5 games back, this matchup carries weight for both squads. Cincinnati desperately needs wins to stay alive in the playoff chase, while San Diego aims to solidify its postseason positioning at home, where they’ve posted a strong 43-25 record.
The series opener features a compelling pitching duel between left-hander Nick Lodolo (8-7, 3.22 ERA) for the Reds and right-hander Yu Darvish (3-5, 5.75 ERA) for the Padres. Lodolo, who returned from a three-week stint on the injured list due to flu-like symptoms in late August, has been a stabilizing force in Cincinnati’s rotation. In his most recent start against the Dodgers on August 27, he allowed four runs over 4.2 innings, marking two straight outings without completing the fifth. However, Lodolo has been sharper on the road this season with a 2.52 ERA and excels against right-handed hitters, limiting them to a low batting average and minimal power.
Darvish, meanwhile, has battled inconsistency since returning from an elbow injury that sidelined him for the first three-plus months of the season. The 39-year-old veteran has made 11 starts since July 7, but his last two outings ended prematurely in the fifth inning without recording an out.
Cincinnati enters on a high note, having won two straight against the Mets, including a series-clinching victory on Sunday where Hunter Greene struck out 12. The Reds’ offense ranks 13th in MLB with 647 runs scored and a .248 batting average, led by shortstop Elly De La Cruz’s breakout campaign: 19 home runs, 80 RBI, and 150 hits, ranking him 28th league-wide in RBI and 72nd in homers. Center fielder TJ Friedl (.265 average, 11 HR, 70 RBI) and outfielder Austin Hays (.263, 14 HR) provide steady production, while first baseman Spencer Steer (.239, 17 HR) adds depth.
