The Dallas Cowboys Just Got GREAT NEWS Before Their NFL Week 2 Game vs. The NY Giants
[Music] The Dallas Cowboys got some big time news before their week 2 matchup against the New York Football Giants. The majority of this is going to focus on Russell Wilson once again being named the starting quarterback for the Giants. That that had to be a conversation is actually I think pretty significant as it relates to Dallas. Part of the Giants struggles were on offense and on the quarterback after a pretty poor 21-6 loss. That doesn’t even feel reflective of how that game went. Could have been a lot more in favor of the Commanders. We’ll break down why I think it’s actually a good thing that Russell Wilson is going to start for the Cowboys against or start for the Giants, excuse me, against the Cowboys in NFL week 2. Before we dive into that, how excited are you for the upcoming Giants game? They always play early in the season, which sometimes I find frustrating, but how excited are you? Scale it from 1 to 10 in the comment section of today’s show. Now, there was one bit of not great news that came across the wire right right before we ended up going live today. Perion Winfrey has been placed on injured reserve. No details yet on who will replace him on the 53man roster. Would make a lot of sense if it was Ryan Fenoy. Add an extra receiver. We’ll see. But Winfrey is going to miss at least the next four games. The back tightness clearly more than back tightness. Uh if you’re going to go on IR and miss several games. So real firm details not yet known, but did want to mention that here before we got going. Now the Giants are one game in to the 2025 NFL season. And I think they already have pretty significant quarterback issues when we’re having and this is not me. This is our Giants channel, Giants fans in general having a conversation like is it time to go to Jackson Dart? My boy Marshall Green, who we’ll mention on today’s show, he had like the third quarter tweet of play dart. You’re a game in and you’re already doing this. That’s a really bad sign. Now, Giants head coach Brian Dable did name Russell Wilson the starter for their NFL week 2 matchup against the Cowboys. This came on the heels of D Brian Dable not really answering who was going to beat the quarterback. There were questions on this. That’s why his Monday press conference kind of got going with it. He was kind of awkwardly non-committal about who was going to be the quarterback. It was a long rambling of like essentially like, well, it’s just after the game, but that it was a question. He wouldn’t answer it. It raised concerns. If you’re one game into the year and you’re trying to figure out the quarterback still and there’s uncertainty about the guy you just signed in free agency, you have massive issues. And frankly, look, the reality was Russell Wilson did not play well against the Commanders. A defense that is not bad, but is not an elite unit necessarily either. 17 of 37, 168 yards, just was under duress consistently. We’ll get to that here more in depth in a little bit. I I don’t think he played well. I like having to go against him in week two or maybe getting to go against him in week two. Are you glad that Russell Wilson is starting in week two against the Dallas Cowboys? Why for yes and for no? Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Are you glad Russell Wilson is starting in week two? Go vote in the comments. Talk to our my guy Marshall Green. We’ll we’ll do the F Marshy’s later in the week. Don’t worry folks. Uh about the whole quarterback thing and he told me that it’s obvious Brian Dable who’s ready to play Jackson Dart. The Giants do not score a touchdown in the first half against Dallas next week. I think Jackson Dart will start the second half. Look, Russell Wilson does not scare me. Uh I have several memes ready to go. One of which is a reply to Marshall on social media. Uh he’s he tweeted, “Why am I trying to talk myself into Russell Westbrook for the Knicks?” I said, “For the same reason you’re trying to talk yourself into Russell Wilson for the Giants.” Here we are a week in. He’s calling for Jackson Dart to start. The Giants and Russ the writing was on the wall if this doesn’t suddenly get way better. Hopefully that’s the case because it didn’t work in Denver. It didn’t work in Pittsburgh in general. the this time it’ll be different guy doesn’t normally work out, but it did work out for week one for Daniel Jones and the Colts, which by the way, all of the sudden Daniel Jones, this might be a Dolphins issue, by the way, but Daniel Jones leaves the Giants and puts up his best game in how many times? How many chances? Like, I think that’s that’s my that might be a damning indictment on Brian Dable and Mike Afka, too. like every like have Russ play bad. Daniel Jones look good. Stick with Russ, not go to dart yet. I think that’s a win for the Cowboys. More on this to come. Before we dive into it, today’s show is made possible by Prize Picks. Now, one of the things Marshall said postgame was the Giants lost because the same issues from last year are still there. One of them is quarterback play under pressure. Russell Wilson was bad per NFL’s NextGen stats under pressure. Five of 16 for a meager 51 yards and an 18.2 success rate, which normally is like, was the play productive to getting you towards the end zone? So, first down, can you get five or six? Third down, you get the first down. 18.2% 2% of the time was it it wasn’t good. Even some of the completions were just checkdowns on enough to get the first down there. That’s noteworthy to me. The Cowboys did pressure Jaylen Herz. Now, they did not bring him down. They had too many missed chances. He was able to buy time with his legs out of the pocket, get first downs, etc. Russell Wilson is not Lamar. He’s not Herz. He can still move a little bit. I think he’s easier to sack than Jaylen Herz’s. And I think that you can argue the Cowboys front four is at least as good as the Commanders or at least not enough of a difference to justify it being significantly less. Now, to be fair, the Giants did not have Andrew Thomas in that game in week one. Also, to be fair, he may not play in week two either. That that I asked Marshall like, “Is he going to be back?” He’s like, “I don’t know.” Like, I hope, but I’m kind of done with the hope stuff. So, we’ll see later in the week as it goes along. But it wasn’t just James Hudson, the replacement for Andrew Thomas who struggled, although he he had a rough game. Six pressures, a flag. Dorren Armstrong ate his lunch. But John Renan, John Michael Smith, Rick Van Roen, Germaine Alumor only had one hurry, but hey, two penalties mixed in there. And these are the PFF charting numbers, by the way. All of that is significant. And Marshall also rightly pointing out on on social media saying I don’t know who needs to hear this. Andrew Thomas doesn’t help run JMS and so John Michael wrote avoid getting coached in the run game. Their run game also was not good. I like all that. Um I think that all benefits the Cowboys and why I think it’s positive on that front. Now who do you wish would start? Maybe it is Russell Wilson. Maybe you’d rather see Jameus Winston. The fact that you can make an argument for any three guys. What’s the old adage? If you have two QBs, you have none. What if you have three QBs? Do you have negative QBs? I don’t know. RW, JW, or GD, let me know in the com or J JD. JD, let me know in the comments section of today’s show. I think at some point this year, we’re going to see Dart. I I I wouldn’t rule out seeing him at some point in week one. There had been the pregame report of the Giants have a package in place for Jackson Dart. I don’t know if they did because they never used it. Um, which also he’s like he’s not a package quarterback. Like he’s a a Lane Keifin quarterback which like is a bunch of fake stuff and not actually doing real drop back passing game. As good as Dart was in the preseason, a lot of that was like I I guess you could call it package stuff. Like it wasn’t it was he operates and does well in situations that are favorable to him. You can go back and watch all the Florida tape which they try to scrub from the internet. You can go back and watch his time at Old Miss. When it’s just like easy play action, vertical shots, he has. When it is easy on dart, he makes it look easy. When it is hard on dart, he makes it look really hard. That’s why the pressure stuff is so important. Like, this is a rookie quarterback who has some physical gifts. The consistency was never there at Miss in the moments that mattered the most. It’s going to be even harder in the NFL. I bet when we get to the week 18 game, I bet he’s back out there this week. We’ll see. Now, we’ll have live coverage for you here all season long on the Cowboys Report. Hit that sub button so you don’t miss out free Cowboys videos each and every single day. YouTube.com/cowboys TV. One very brief note I also want to mention of why I think things went well for the Cowboys in week one to the Giants and the Commanders. This was a quote tweet from Marshall. The Commanders totaled 432 yards. The defense was not good. I wish people would stop saying that. We will have a full preview available for you on the channel both early in the week, Tuesday, later in the week on on uh I guess Saturday night before the 1 p.m. game. The Giants defense was bad. So stay tuned for that. [Music]

Cowboys Report host Tom Downey breaks down why the Giants’ decision to start Russell Wilson and not Jaxson Dart is a good thing for the Cowboys on today’s show!
Agree or disagree with Cowboys Report host Tom Downey by commenting on today’s video:
– How excited are you for NFL Week 2 vs. the Giants? Scale it: 1-10
– Who do you WANT the Giants to start? Type ‘RW’ for Russell Wilson, ‘JW’ for Jameis Winston or ‘JD’ for Jaxson Dart
– Who do you hate more? Type ‘G’ for the Giants, ‘C’ for the Commanders or ‘E’ for the Eagles
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has named Russell Wilson the Giants starter for the Cowboys vs. Giants game, less than 24 hours after being awkwardly non-committal about starting Wilson.
Russell Wilson stats in NFL Week 1: 17/37 (59.3%), 168 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, 2 sacks. He was especially bad under pressure, going 5/16 for 51 yards under pressure with an 18.2% success rate.
Some Cowboys injury news included on today’s show is not good news, however. Defensive Tackle Perrion Winfrey is heading to IR due to his back injury. A 53-man roster replacement has not been named yet.

Giants Now host Marshall Green on the decision to start Russell Wilson: “It is obvious Brian Daboll is ready to play Jaxson Dart. But if the Giants do not score a touchdown in the first half against Dallas next week I think Jaxson Dart will start the second half.”

What news? That Cowboys can score 45 points on them 😁 they did before in 2 games against the Giants Cowboys score 95 points 😒 that’s when Dak was so good 😒,
8 FOR G-MEN GAME. Y FOR WILSON. GOTTA GET AFTER HIM AS THERE RECIEVERS ARE VERY GOOD. BUT YOU GOTTA GT THEM THE BALL AND WILSON IS NOW OVER THE HILL. JD IN 2ND HALF IF WILSON STINKS, WHICH I PRAY HE WILL,
I'm not worried about Russ. I watched that Giants/Wash close and Nyg is a bad team. Any areas of concern would be Giants defensive line but Cowboys did pretty well against Eagles O-line. And Dallas was able to sack hurts, they're definitely gonna get Russ a few times. I think Dallas will be up for this game, it should be a close one. 28-14. Dallas.
We don't unestimate anyone anybody can be beat in any given day
Flournoy over tolbert he's great
Giants are a pop warner team..

Poor poor g' men
Jaxson Dart is not ready to start if the Giants can't run the football or pass block whoever start disaster 🤔🤔🤨😡
I think Russ owns the cowboys historically
Giants by 10
dont know why your happy we need to lose every game to get a top 5 pick since pakers are going to give us a 25th or worse what's wrong with you !!!!!
Does Jerry Jones still own them?….yeah there’s no reason to celebrate 😂
no way this team competes with the top 12 teams in the nfl so what's the point if winning 7 to 10 games lose lose lose lose get a great draft pick!!!
The key to this game is getting a pass rush. We need to pressure Russell and protect Dak.
What was the great news?

Nashon Wright let go by the Cowboys gets a pick 6 for Bears! Letting great talent out the door is Stephen Jones specialty!
Can't wait to get Overshown back in the line up.i bet he would break the cowboys record if they use Overshown the same way they did ware and Parsons.
Fact is Cowboy fans will not get any better news all season than we did before the season started. Trading parsons was the BEST NEWS we could have gotten this season. Only issue with the trade was that it was a year too late. should have done that before last season.
He won't be under duress with our non existent pass rush.
Dallas Cowboys may win or lose second game in the row, or Giants can lose as well. I can guarantee that Dallas Cowboys will not be in playoffs…. on the other hand, Green Bay Packers with Micah Parson will reach Super Bowl!
It doesnt matter who stars. The giants o line is terrible
We need parsons. No pressure on Hurts till the end of the game. Our DEs suck
After watching the Cowboys vs Eagles game i dont care who we play i just want the mental mistakes drops and fumbles to stop if that happens i feel confident we can play against anyone.

Well, at least we have tape on Russ. But, we always shit the bed against average QBs now. Second that, if they have Russ still use his legs. Well, we saw how that went in the first game….
I want RW. Not wanting what we did with the NFL in 2016 with Dak and Zeke no film to follow a rookie.
Made me laugh Ed, well done !
Kneeland and Clark sacked hurts ?
I don't think Russell will go 17-37 again while knowing his job is on the line he is a SB winning QB…Yes he's in decline but he had some good games last year with the Steelers and he still throws one of the most accurate deep balls in the NFL…
Can we normalize not using clickbait?
Y
I hope we dont play down to our opponents…like we always do
Daboll this is why you should’ve been fired 🤦🏾♂️ 😂 2:37
I'm more scared of Dart bc he reminds me of the Sam Darnold situation when we expected him to be a dud that game. We prob have no game-plan for that.
Cowboys Forever 🏈
