New York #Jets WALL IS BUILT (FULL BADLANDS)
What’s going on everybody? Welcome back to the Trend the Jets podcast. I’m your host Will Parkinson 11 on Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok. Dan, buck the trend. We’re here on a Monday afternoon. I think me and you both wanted to sit on yesterday’s loss a little bit. Go back, watch the game. Joe and Connor did a fantastic job kind of like slightly deep breath taking it. Um now, you know, kind of a full a little bit more of a full one back. Watch the tape. I know Connor’s going to have in the film room. You’ll get jet heads later tonight as well. Dan will be back on the feed. I’ll be back on the feed later. We’ll start we’ll start talking more Bills and and things like that. But we’re going to talk everything that happened yesterday. Some good, some bad, some really really good, some really [ __ ] bad. There’s a really wide margin of what we saw yesterday. Dan, I guess before we get into like specifics, just overall like where you at? Obviously, I think no one wants to lose. And I think me and Dan are going to emphasize this 800 times. We are not saying that a loss yesterday was good. So, let’s not mistake anything we’re saying here. But just generally, where you at before we get into specifics to I had to really exercise all of the emotional feelings of that game because I just really wanted them to be Steelers. Uh, like part of it was I knew how Rogers would talk after the game and I knew that it would upset me more than it should. So I was like, damn, I just really wanted to get that win. Um, but yeah, I think I by the end of the game I’m just like, damn. Like I kind of confused how to feel because there’s so many things that were unknowns that you got answers for that were very good answers, you know, and then a lot of the concerns were, you know, still big concerns. some concerns, maybe bigger concerns than we originally thought. So, um, yeah, it was kind of like a mixed feelings type of feeling coming away from the game, obviously, which feel like most people could say they were at, but um, yeah. Yeah, I just I left I didn’t really know how to feel. I mean, obviously I think anyone leaving a loss is angry. I don’t think anyone that’s sitting there telling you, “Oh, it was all good.” No, of course not. Um, I don’t think I was had the same last year. I had I’d have this feeling leaving the stadium where it was like just like hopeless and frustrating and you kind of felt like really like depressed almost and I don’t mean to be like dramatic about but you just leave and you’re like hanging your head like this there was this promise that you got sold two years ago and it felt like last year we’d see these little glimpses and so you get really bought in really attached to it and you’re like holy [ __ ] it’s happening and like I just think of that Seahawks game as like one of those like oh my god it’s happening and then obviously it would kind of crater. I didn’t feel like that yesterday. I didn’t feel like they got punched and kind of quit. I felt like there was individual errors more than bad coaching. I felt like there was individual errors that a lot of them were correctable, not all of them. And I think that’s what we we’ll talk about that in a minute. But the offense scored and like scored in bunches and they were consistent throughout the game and they were aggressive at points. They were well calculated. There was a lot of different things there. on defense. We’ll talk about it, but they gave up a lot of points and a lot of guys in the secondary had really rough days. A lot of linebackers had really bad days. They also gave up like 250 total yards. And if their guys could catch like they have at least one, if not two interceptions. They sacked Rogers a bunch. The deep Quinn looked like that might be that was a top three Quinn game. It was like that Green Bay and maybe Buffalo two years ago where I was like, “Dude, he’s the best player on the field and like it’s not close.” Um, they have not only one but maybe two premier edge rushers and I I don’t I think Will’s got a trajectory that I talked about in the offseason. I’m really excited for what we saw last year and I think he just looks like it’s all kind of come together for him where there’s counters, there’s dominant moves, he’s feeling confident and it’s Roger Jones and he’s not very good and I get it. Um, but overall S looks like an allp pro. Let’s start with let’s start with the bad. Joan Connor did the same thing. I want to kind of follow a similar trend here. Let’s start with the bad. I’m going to start with Gibson because I think it’s the easiest fix across the board. This is the most like you tried it, it didn’t work. It probably cost you a game. I think that’s the biggest point in the game. I believe D it was 2617. All the momentum for the Jets. I think they had them backed up at second and 15 if I’m not mistaken. Quincy gets the late hit out of bounds. Just dumb. And what I don’t what I don’t like I was going to sound like the business is true check. What I don’t like, but like his excuse was you got to play through the whistle. guys like Mahomes who we we talk about this in another episode how like ridiculous a lot of what you know um like Mahomes does and all this stuff. I don’t think that has anything to do with what happened on Sunday. I think it was just a bad mistake and okay you can live with one bad mistake. Again the drive shouldn’t have continued and the whole thing and then Gibson fumbles and easy points. The Steelers score I think the second play out of that sudden change the defense. It was a really long drive after that and it was just like clearly gas third end of the third early fourth quarter first full game got hot out at the stadium. It was all the makings of like dude they cannot afford a sudden change right now. They couldn’t really even afford a three and out let alone a sudden change. And my issue with Gibson is first of all he fumbled earlier in the game. Um no one saw it because he just dropped the football. No one touched him. He dropped the football on a return that should have been a house call. He trips over himself, whatever. Nice return though, so give him credit, right? He gets to like I think it’s like the 38 or 39. You’re like, “Oh, okay.” But he fumbled and McCreary ball had a really nice day yesterday on specials. That’s why special teams captain alertly jumped on the ball. That would have been a heartbreaker at the time. Dan, I could have punched that football out of Gibson’s hands. And I’m I’m nobody. I don’t What do you do here? Because Glenn’s words were really harsh after the game. And as much as I love them, unfortunately, not unfortunately, un fortunately, I guess you kind of have to make a statement unfortunately for Gibson. Seems like a nice guy, but this is 11 fumbles now in two and a half years. And he’s just frankly not a good enough returner to have that be. He’s not Dante Hall. And it’s like, oh, he fumbles, but he also returns five a year. This is like he returned one and he also has 11 fumbles in like 35 career NFL games. There there’s just no place for it. like you you just can’t really have it on the roster. Like it just is what it is. Like before the excuse uh in the solar regime was he’s offering enough as a receiver that you can keep him on. Uh he knows enough of the playbook that you keep him on keep him around guys and then have impact on special teams. But at this point his impact is only special teams and that impact is has been majority negative. You know I think Kenna is a better returner. Kenny got hurt in that game, which is fine, but like they they rostered both of them. Like this is a situation where it’s like, “Okay, we understand what the situation is now. Let’s just completely rectify it here because he’s not offering anything.” Like to have that much negative impact and see the field that few times. Like it’s it’s it’s it’s something that just kind of screams out to you like this is an easy thing to solve uh in in a vacuum. So yeah, I I don’t think this that one should be very difficult. I I am a little bit I think Muji’s been quick to move on from mistakes. Um I for this one particularly seems like I don’t know why like same thing with Tony Adams. It just seems like two straight regimes are just like can we just please hold on and it’s like why? Like I it’s not um he’s not even really a high floor player where I understand it where like if you talk to me and say hey look this is going to sound crazy considering what happened yesterday and you’re like hey Stevens is a high floor guy. He’s gonna be in the right spots. He’s a good football player. He just cannot get his head around. Like he gives up a lot of catches because but we know he’s not gonna bust assignments. We know he’s going to tackle well. There isn’t argumentish to be made like hey like let’s give it a little longer. I’m not saying I agree. I’m just saying you can you could get me to understand and see your point of view. Glenn talked about it like look he had a great summer and I know he this is who he is, but that one to me is it’s a bigger contract. It’s a guy who’s well respected. It’s a guy they’re betting on. So, at least to me, that’s like, all right, willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, even if I feel like we all kind of see the writing on the walls like Zarya should be playing probably sooner rather than later. Yeah. Or Stevens could be playing safety and is already being playing corner, which we’ve been screaming about since they drafted Aaria. The Adams and the CIS I not Cisco, the Adams and the Gibson one. First of all, Gibson’s probably the 53rd guy on the roster. Um, I’m not even asking you to cut him. I’m not calling for people’s heads. Next week, as crazy as it sounds, sorry, like Lazard’s active, Gibson’s not active. Or Pritchette’s active and Gibson’s not. And Aaron Smith and Isaiah Davis are back there. And if Davis is a good enough running back, could he get you to the 35? Yeah. Aren’s got good speed. I’m a little worried about him fumbling, but you know, at least, hey, maybe he breaks one. And that turns the game against a Bills team where it’s like, maybe we just how we start to get Aryan involved in the offensive. Cool. That’s all fine. The Adams one, as you mentioned, to me is another one that like I don’t think it’s he’s a guy not making a lot of money, he’s on a one-year deal, if he gets demoted to safety three and he’s a special teams guy, like fine. Um I don’t know if Malachi is going to be great right away. I can’t tell you that with confidence. He looked really bad in two preseason games and looked amazing in one. What I can tell you with confidence is that dude’s an animal and it will stick his head in there. Tony Adams doesn’t even like try to get his head in on tackles. And that’s I think my biggest issue, Dan, is he’s a bad tackler and he’s not a playmaker. Malachi’s a fun tackler. Uh like sometimes it’s going to look great and sometimes it’s going to look like ass. But I feel like he’s a smarter player and he makes plays and he’s more likely to turn the football over. So to me, this is a this is this is Reggime’s guy. So this should not be a a hard solve. And I know putting him in against the Bills where it’s a young team, like it’s a younger player against a Josh. Like I get that all well and good. Dan, I’m curious your thoughts on this though. Like Josh will throw it up there and I kind of would rather have Malachi Moore be in more reps or like if you’re not I don’t know. I just there’s a a lot of guys in that secondary whether it’s Michael Carter or Stevens or Moore Stigers like all those guys feel like they’re better at safety than Tony Adams and I just and I’m not trying to beat up on the guys. is a nice kid and like it’s a cool story, but it’s kind of over as a starter. Uh he’s a backup level player on a good team. He’s not on the five and 12 Jets like anymore. There’s they’re supposed to be better. So, don’t you feel like this is also kind of an easy solve? I think so. And I think again I don’t it’s not one of those seasons where you you can or where you have to be cy about decisions. I think like Justin Fields has said like other folks have said like people really don’t have expectations of them. So, it’s like cool. Yeah. Yeah, you go in every week. Yeah, if you’re going to Bills weekend, um you you don’t have to be cy about the safety decision, then yeah, throw your guy out there and see what he’s got. Like, you have to find out sooner or later. It is what it is. Like, uh some guys, yeah, we’ll take a hit in confidence if things go, but like I don’t think I’m very confident. I don’t I don’t want that’s what I’m you know like it’d be different if it was like literally the Tony Adams situation where they kind of hid him in the offseason until the regular season came out cuz they’re like hey let’s just get make sure he’s in the right frame of mind when he was younger as a rookie or I think second year that was I think with this situation Mal Kyore it’s different he’s not a small school guy he’s not someone who hasn’t faced hard competition like he played a long time in the SEC he understands what competition is like if if he does things wrong he’ll understand he has to fix it I don’t think that’s this is the kind of situation where you have you know, kind of coddle him along the way. Uh, you know, so I I I feel like you just make the quick decisions at this point. Uh, because yeah, this is a season where you try stuff out, you know, nobody, again, expectations are low, so just do your thing. Let’s see. Let’s see what players you want. Yeah, I felt like this is kind of this kind of reminds me a little bit of Michael Carter’s rookie where they just threw him out there. They put him in a lot of really bad spots. They had him one-on-one guarding prime Stefon Diggs. That was like, what are we doing? But he came in year two and was like, “Holy [ __ ] we have like a really really good player here.” And he just got 16, 17 full NFL games at nickel and outside corner. And like they’re they have been better for it ever since. This kind of feels like, don’t you kind of want to just ride with like the homegrown guy who’s part of your plans in the future if he has bumps and bruises where like a couple weeks this year like Malachi looks like ass and it’s like oo but then you come out of the season you’re like dude 10 weeks was really good from him and he’s now $850,000 starter for the next three years. I don’t know to me that sounds like a better thing. Let’s hit on Stevens quickly and then you know one or two of the other negatives before I want to hit on the positives the remainder of the pod. The Stevens thing, as I mentioned, is just tough because I they’re obviously betting on him, right? And they gave him a lot of money. And I’m not saying that like throw him away, never play him again. But I also feel like they’re going to get it’s going to happen sooner rather than later where it’s going to be like, dude, if you don’t start catching the football, like I’m not even talking about the the back shoulder of Calvin Austin’s frustrating because it’s like just get your head around, but like that’s a really hard play. It’s the It’s the play of holding Calvin Austin. Somehow you’re getting beat. It’s the bad eyes on the other touchdown. And then, dude, the draft interception is the game. Like, if Gibson holds the football and Stevens catches the football, the game’s over both times. Yeah. And I just I worry that like this is not the first time it’s going to happen. And if you looking if you’re looking up and you’re eight and nine at the end of the year and you’re like dude Gibson holds on to the football and Stevens catches one or two of these interceptions like they’re 10 and seven and you’re like what the come on. Like that’s that’s just that’s the kind of stuff that you just you want to nip in the butt. Um I think Stevens will be better. He was awful yesterday. Yeah. I was really worried Dan with he did a lot of uncharacteristically bad things too where like his eyes were terrible. He was slipping over and over again. He got was getting beat like dude I can’t emphasize enough and you know this and we’ve talked about so much even all summer he got beat during the summer it’s not like he didn’t but it was like he’s in perfect spot it’s like the most frustrating player in the NFL right May’s talked about it Connor and Joe have talked about it this was like he wasn’t even in good position ever except for the one back shoulder he got beat on he was just it was a really weird day I don’t the play action why are you biting on Rogers play action like what no offense you’re not even a fill and replace guy I don’t know why you’re like biting on that so did you like see the same thing where it was like this wasn’t even characteristic mistakes. It was like dude that’s why I have a confidence I’ll be betterish but like still I know that’s not really a high bar to clear. Yeah. No, you you were 100% right. It was it was a very weird game. Like it it’s definitely one of his worst. Like I think there was uh there were some Ravens fans watching the game and I was kind of seeing some of their comments come through and they were just like, “Yeah, like when when you the one play where you did turn around, they’re like, “Yep, this is what you get.” And a couple other players are kind of just like, “Yeah, like this is actually a really bad day for him.” Like it it was just it was as bad as it could get for him. like the slipping was weird, but like it’s just it’s one of those things where on once you once you get down it just keeps getting worse and sometimes some players able to kind of just like reset, but for him it’s like it just got as bad as possible and then all a sudden he finds himself on the ground again and the ball’s coming right to him and he drops it and it’s just like I don’t understand. I don’t even think Roger saw him. There’s no way. No. No. Um, so yeah, just it’ll definitely be better than this, but I think the key is that you just don’t you know what like you know how good it could be. I think and I think for the Jets coaching staff they’re hoping like oh no actually we think it could be better but I think I think we kind of know now like the the ceiling is is what it is. Um, I don’t know if the Bills game is going to be uh I do wonder how they’ll they’ll strategize for this game because it’s it’s potentially bad. You know, Josh Allen loves back shoulders. I know people are going to disagree and we’ll talk you I’m sure you’re going to talk about it later in the week. I would have him on Keon Coleman and just play man coverage and say like, “Dude, Keon Coleman’s slow. He’s a bigger body. Stevens is a bigger body. It allows maybe I know it’s maybe I’m just off the top of my head. Yeah, he maybe at least like Josh feet tries to force feed it and it’s like hey wouldn’t you rather Keon Coleman targets than like Josh sprinkle it around like almost kind of bait him but then at the same time I’m like I don’t know if that’s a good strategy and sauce is a great match up for Keon Coleman so I don’t know if I want to do that either. It’s like yeah kind of caught in between. Um, it’s hard. Yeah, it’s it’s a hard situation. If he if he’s if he’s if he’s where he’s at this week one, I think they’re it’s going to be a little bit of a a problematic situation regardless of where he ends up, whether that be on Keon or, you know, just, you know, in place as S follows. But yeah, um, if if it’s better though, yeah, I think then it becomes a question of just like, cool, like what’s the best strategy? And I think that’s the hard part of having a player that everyone knows what the deficiency is is you’re just like, “Cool, how do we hide it this week, every week?” You know what I mean? And so it’s like you’re just kind of giving yourself hide $12 million a year. Uh it’s a great it’s a great place to be. And let’s let’s switch over the uh this is the last negative and then I promise the rest of the P is positive. They lost the game and and I I there’s no moral victories. I really like the way that the players spoke after the game as not the Salah like it wasn’t me. It was a lot of guys like now I’m pissed off. We lost like we’re better. We were we played really well and if we correct these little things like we’ll be fine. And I just I like that there wasn’t this pouting like I’m the it wasn’t my fault type of stuff. There was a lot of like dude Quinnon sounded like livid and like in a good way. It was like no man like we’ll be f like I’ve not heard Joe Titman speak that like passionately in the entire time he’s been here. He was like dude we kicked their ass up front. like we are going to win games. Every stat indicates the Jets should have won handily. Um I just didn’t like the two play calls on on the uh on the goal line. Third and three and then the two two points. Um I actually wish Glenn I texted in the group and I I guess I I was maybe a little out numbered there. But like I thought when they went up eight to go up instead of going up nine just like go for two cuz it would have been a one possession game and Tomlin gets very conservative and in my head I’m like dude if you push it to 10 now Tomlin has to get like even he gets I don’t know you feel like you put him on his heels a little bit. Um at the end of the day I liked Glenn’s thinking though. Again I don’t love the second play call was stupid. I think they just thought they were going to get a different look and they didn’t get it. But they were like, “Dude, Gun goes, dude, like we’re on the one yard line. Like, we have to score. Sorry, we just do.” Um, again, I I don’t love the play calls, but the strategy of, hey, analytically, we’re not going to run a TJ Watt side because we know he’s super aggressive. Alex Highmith can’t defend the run. Justin Fields can pull it. The whole thing like that to me is great. And same thing on the goal line. It’s like analytically, like, dude, it made sense to go for two there. the penalty like you’re on the one yard line with a mobile quarterback, big backs, good offensive line. So, I don’t know. I guess this is the last like negative we’ll hit on of like they didn’t convert there. But I almost feel like if that’s all they have to do to fix and that’s the difference in literally what two nine points almost in a lot of ways like I’ll take that. I’ll take that all day long. Absolutely. Look, the good news after like games like this is you, you know, that Angstrin as a like young offensive coordinator actually has less to work on, you know, going into the following week. So, it’s like, yeah, you’ll probably spend some time like they had good short yardage and it’s not like one thing with Laf floor, I don’t know if you feel like this, too. Lafllor is really fun and there’s a lot of really cool trickery and he like maximized a lot of like dog [ __ ] quarterbacks, but I didn’t think like his scripts were like amazing. I didn’t feel like the balance of run pass was very good actually at all. I know they got down in games and that’s what ended up happening. I felt like Angstran like the game of like personnel usage, formations, a lot of motion. I I saw a ton of pre- snap motion. They started a lot of bunch sets and they started going more they kind of split spread them out more. They were in pistol sometimes. They were in shotgun. They were in like they spread it out. I don’t know. I just I liked a lot of even Fields talked about the touchdown at the end. He was like, “Hey man, Tanner’s just like, “Keep it here.” He’s like, “You want to do it? Go, go for it.” And like, dude, I feel like Fields feeds off of that. He’s like, “Oh, someone actually believes in me for the first time since before I was drafted because the Bears clearly didn’t even actually believe me when I got there and we sucked.” And then the Steelers were kind of like, he was a handholder. I feel like I don’t know, man. Like, I know we just transition to the positive, but like, dude, Justin Fields was like talking [ __ ] yesterday and like having fun. I have not seen that guy in five years there. We have not seen him have a lick of fun like ever. There was been nothing. Didn’t you feel like not just how he played but there was like this a light switch went on the second drive where it went from like the third and 11 running. I was like I was like I know you want to be conservative. You’ll take the points but like Jesus [ __ ] Christ man. if we’re going to get into third and 11 inside the opponent’s territory already. Um that’s a little that just to me was like a a lot of people text me were like really like I was like yeah I’m being conservative it’s just this how they’re going to be and then they kind of opened it up and it was like whoa. So what you what do you think of I guess an mention as a whole but also just Fields who was just like really good at everything like honestly he didn’t even run as good as Fields normally runs and that’s fine. That’s okay. Yeah. No, it was it was awesome. I think it’s rare that you have an offensive coordinator and a quarterback that much in rhythm this early. I think it seemed like every everything that came through Justin Fields was like, “Yeah, I’m good.” Like the way that they were treating uh their approach on offense, I think was was beautiful because I I I sent like a screenshot of the targets in the first like three or four drives and it’s just like, “Yeah, just Breezing Garrett.” And it’s like, “Yeah, that’s that’s actually all you need.” Like the Angstrom was basically just like, “Cool. Identify. Identify.” And then it’s like, “Cool. You decided to to man cover Garrett. All right, destroy them.” And it’s like, “Okay, cool. Back to the run. Back to the run. Oh, you you you gave us another opening. We’ll take that. Back to the run. Back to the run.” And it’s it was beautiful. Like Justin Fields is in rhythm. He felt good. Uh again, just just like little things of like, oh yeah, could have read that zone differently or, you know, could have read that uh defensive end on on zone read differently or anything like that. like cool that’ll get fixed that will also happen every game but like you know those things will be fine but I love that they felt so in sync you know like it’s different when you have a million things to think about which I think has often been the issue with Justin Fields we’ve always complained you know it’s it’s been a problem his his processing power and his speed has been has been an issue but like you could tell especially there were a couple throws one was I think they were actually both rugged if I’m not mistaken. Um, one for first down where he was close but he had to like put it in a very specific spot away from the window was like he could not have thrown the ball anywhere else or that ball is getting batted down or intercepted. Exactly. It’s perfect. And it’s like yeah those are throws that you know in previous stops especially man going through some of the Steelers tape last season that’s as uncomfortable as I seen the quarterback just scared to make a mistake. It was unbelievable. Yes. because they would give him like three options anyway and or two options on many plays and they just be like cool yeah no get it there I hope and it’s like well yeah what are you supposed to do there you know it was just so it was just like not a fun offense at all it was it was terrible um and it’s cool to see him like kind of break free a little bit get a little loose and uh get that confidence back yeah it’s good confident Justin Fields is real fun yeah I I think the the zone read stuff will be different when you’re not facing TJ Watt uh and Alex Highmith I think they used, and again I mentioned this before, they used Watt’s aggressiveness against him. First of all, Meu, we’ll talk, I want to get to Membu because, and this will be the social clip and the whole thing, but like the Jets ran away from TJ Watt on purpose, and it’s not be just because TJ Watt’s good. It’s because he’s so aggressive that multiple times, as I mentioned, there was a long first down. I think it was on like second and 10, and they he just pulled it and gained like 10 or 12 yards. Um, and then obviously down the goal line of TJ just crashes down immediately. Both their ends do it. Um, and they were like, “Cool, keep doing it.” Could Justin have pulled a couple of different ones and did he pull he pulled the one at the end of the game and he shouldn’t have? You know what, man? Like, if I The biggest complaint I have about Justin Fields leaving a game is he didn’t pull enough zone reads correctly. It’ll be okay. Um, I I I mentioned I know Connor mentioned the the Jaylen Herz Eagles offense and I Conor smarter than me. I’m sure I’ve been using like the 2018 Ravens example um just because I feel like a lot of these deep crossers, a lot of these deep play action, but then it’s like a lot of punch in the face, punch in the face, hitting a lot of these multiple different tight ends. Like Lamar kind of was like one, two, and go. Um I just it kind of looked a little Ravensish to me yesterday. And again, I am not saying Lamar yesterday played like played the best QBR game in the history of the NFL when in losing like Justin Field is not Lamar. Um, but for for a week he looked like Lamar and it was cool just to be like, “Oh, there’s this.” Do I expect him to be like this rest of the season? I’m not sure. I I have to see it more consistently. The Bills run defense is they’re the worst uh they’re the 32nd ranked EPA per play defense in the league. Like they were horrendous last night. They were horrible last year. They were not very good the year before. Like they’ve not been good in a while. Um they have an alien at quarterback and that’s why they’re Super Bowl favorites and they should be. Yeah. But like I don’t know, man. Derrick Henry is averaging eight and a half yards a carry. Um and it wasn’t like an eight and a half yards to carry was like Derrick Henry. So no, it was like there was no one touching them at all. And the Ravens, I know the Ravens are really good. their offensive line I don’t find to be quite as good as everybody else does. But Rosen Garden like led the league in and like everything last year not good. So, um I want to talk a little bit about the defense of what we saw was good. Yeah. And then I’m going to finish on the tackles because I think that’s that’s the most fun thing. Yes. The defense was weird because we talked so much about the secondary spec like Michael Carter did not have his best game. I didn’t think he was quite as bad as it’s being portrayed. I think like a lot of times when you’re the underneath zone defender, everyone just assumes it’s your fault and the safety’s not making plays. No offense, like a deep crosser is not the underneath guy’s problem. It’s the safety behind him. So when Tony Adams gets lost all the time, makes everybody else look bad. Sauce was phenomenal. Um Quincy had splash plays, but I did not think this was a great Quincy game. Um I thought this was a horrible Sherwood game. I thought he got better in the second half. Um his eyes were really bad yesterday. He was like overrunning stuff. him and Quincy both were. It was really weird like to not give up a lot of rushing yards but have both your linebackers not read properly was weird. Um Keo is not ready for NFL snaps early in games. Let’s just I don’t want to beat up on the guys. He’s the first game as a rookie, but Jesus Jesus Christ, man. Um the Don was awesome. Um everyone was slotted the way you’d love to see their rep count. I feel like Clemens was fine because you know what? He’s the third edge rusher playing 25 snaps a game. Who cares? Germaine was really good. Will McDonald was special. I thought Quinnon was special. And then like Harrison Smith and Briggs and honestly and Tufle had a really nice play in the run game. Like I can’t believe I’m saying this, their D line depths better than their edge depths. Like their second Dline the edges are not good. Uh the dackles are like kind of fine. Like Briggs had multiple plays where it was like oh like first seven. Okay. Like what do you think overall? this I know this is uh your your specialty. So I just am I wrong that like the Dline if they play like that consistently they’re going to be a seven to nine win team strictly based on that. So yes and I actually think that they could be better um than they were yesterday. Johnson, by the way, signed to the active roster. So, I’m curious. And they released someone from the So, interesting. Just we’ll see. That might be a Yeah, that’s okay. That’s probably So, that was quick. Gibson’s probably in active this week. Let’s just put it that way. Interesting. So, uh yeah, no, on the um on the defensive line, I do think that there’s even another level for them potentially. I think uh Briggs had some really nice flashes which is very encouraging because the age if they actually can can squeeze more out of there that’s that’s that’s really encouraging. Um but yeah I think you saw that a lot of people started asking like what you know what’s going on with Quinnon. I I think they’re probably managing uh the calf stubbed his toe. Oh okay. Yeah. All right. Uh, just respect the hustle. So, yeah, it seemed like it was the same thing with with Dermaine as well. Like they’re just they had silent pitch counts. Pitch counts that they didn’t tell the media, which is great, you know. Um, but yeah, seeing them like not on the field and the defense still putting up a fight was encouraging to see and kind of scared me for a couple plays where, you know, I was like, uh, wait, hold on. I don’t like this. I don’t like this. But they they held up well and uh especi Yeah, the the edge depth. You’re right. It’s it’s just not as good. It’s really not. I think we we got a good a good sense of that. But again, like you mentioned, I like the fact that they they look at Clemens and they see like this is how you’re supposed to use him. Um and I would like Will snap counts to go up a little bit more, but I understand like they think he can’t impact the run game like Michael Clemens can and this type of scheme. They’re honestly right. Um and so yeah, you kind of see the results there. And um look, this is like it was not a good defensive game. Like you said, the linebackers were kind of lost for a good amount of the game. The defensive line did what they could. If they can get the linebackers playing better, the defensive line keeps this level or gets even better. Like it it really skyrockets your potential as a defense. Uh especially like if sauce was shutting down like if you have sauce shutting down your number one wherever he goes on the field uh with that confidence level again uh and you can just figure out you know the best solution on the other side of sauce um then yeah there’s a pathway to them being a really dominant defense. I think what’s different about this defense versus Salah is that we can very like specifically identify the problems. Yeah. Which like is a good it’s a good and a bad thing. I I was texting me about this the other day and said like it’s really cool that like going into next year it’s very obvious what the needs are going to be. Yes. And it’s like we’re really good at these nine spots, these three spots like are huge needs. You know, everyone has different opinions on it, but I feel like it’s nice to know like what you’re good at and what you’re not. Um I I just Germaine’s going to play this well already. Um it just it changes, dude. Last year, Connor and Joe talked about this a million times. We’ve all talked about this like your good players have to be good. Yeah. And through one week, it’s one week. Uh Germaine Johnson looks really good. Quinn Williams looks like an allpro. Um, Will McDonald looks like a Pro Bowl level edge. Uh, Sgarter looks like an allp pro. Quincy Williams and Sherwood is the glaring to me of the two guys that are really good that were not good. Um, this week Garrett looks really good. Not sure how he didn’t score in the second touchdown, by the way. I he like his body just like died. I was like, what are you doing? Um, and then they scored. It doesn’t matter. I was just like couldn’t believe he didn’t score there. I would have loved him to get in the end zone. Um, Bree looks like awesome. So, I want to finish with Bree in the O line. Bree to me, his issue the last two years has not been that Breece is a bad guy. He’s not talented. All this stuff and his vision is still fine. Whatever. It’s not even about the vision thing for me because whatever when you’re really talented like you can kind of see vision sucks. Okay. So, it doesn’t matter. People are going to get mad at that. Trust me, it’s not Giants fans can attest like he had no holes but sometimes you’re like, “Dude, please just hit this hole.” It’s that Breeze was making people miss and confidently hitting the hole and it was like just going forward. It wasn’t about hitting even hit the right hole. It was like, dude, I’m going to take three yards here and that’s okay. Um Mason Taylor and Rucker bought their ass off. Beck did too, but not only those guys blocked their ass off, Rucker and Taylor were good in the pass game. They were efficient. That tight end room being even league average would be really, really nice for the Jets. like really really nice. Absolutely. Look, the I the Rucker game shocked me a little. I’m not going to lie. He looked like again like 2022 rookie or Rucker where you’re like, “Oh, like this guy could be the second tie down on a decent Yes. Yes. And it’s like this has just been here the whole time. What What were we doing? I don’t Aaron Rogers do to you.” Like it’s just honestly what happened last year? Yeah. He he he looked like even like personally it just looked like you know the way that he’s not surprised by him catching the ball. He’s not surprised of the by the plays that he’s making. He’s just like Yeah. Yeah. It’s like okay what like I I guess we were okay then. Yeah. Like Mason Taylor was like both like it was two catches but it was like confident in traffic made the play. There was no like hesitation. There was no hesit hesitancy. Last two things D were one positive and one I think we both want to mention one thing about Rogers. Yeah. I will say this and again I can assure you this will go on my Tik Tok page. I rewatched 01 fully. I watched we rewatched all 22. I know you you rewatched it as well. Thought Myers was solid. Thought it’s exactly what you would be asking for. Can you just be solid? Can you be a league average center or even a little below league average, but can you just be solid? No issues, no, you know, no pre- snap stuff. Just everything aligned. Snap the ball well and don’t be don’t be the worst guy on the line. Simpson was good. I didn’t think he was like amazing. He was really good in the run game. I think he was fine in pass bro. Um Tibon was awesome in the run game. Like looked really good at guard, which is what you and you’ve been saying for a while that like he looks really good at guard. And then the two tackles. I thought Olu was mainly teach tape the whole day. Looked really good in the run game. He had one the one sack he gave up was he gave up he just kind of like he gave up his inside shoulder to Alex Highmith. Look, there was a miscommunication between Fields and Olu and Garrett of just kind of like how long how long they had and all these different stuff. Membu was unbelievably good yesterday and I know he got a little help at times, but like dude, he planted TJ Watt in his ass multiple times. He was climbing his second levels. He got his hands on Patrick Queen, drove him eight yards off the ball. Um, you cannot help but be excited if you’re a Jets fan saying, “Dude, we have bookend tackles. We think we probably have bookke tackles for the next eight years and we have two guards, one who’s like 25 and one who’s 26, 27, whatever Simpson is that like could be here for a long time and if we like even if we have a rotating door at center, Josh Myers is it doesn’t really matter, ABT, whatever, like we’re pretty damn good up front and honestly Meu and Ol are only going to get better. So I was really really [ __ ] impressed with what I saw from both tackles. That was man go going through that today this morning after like kind of starting off the morning just like I don’t even know if I want to like hear all the nonsense that’s going to come out about what Rogers did and blah blah blah blah blah that was such a nice thing to wake up to like all all of and for anyone who kind of always looks forward to the draft guide one of the best you know notes that we get I got that we got from Connor a while back was when you’re watching offensive linemen and YouTube background on them and you find out that they did some wrestling in the past, always put a little star next to it because if they’re if they’re actually good and they actually know what they’re doing, man, it it’ll show up. Not Kon Tibido wrestling, not not Kon Tibido wrestling, like real wrestlers. And you saw that with Membu, the way that he understands leverage is why TJ Watt kept ending up on his ass the entire game because he would he would read his momentum. He’d understand like he’s being too aggressive here. I got him. Or he just understand like he’s going to turn back inside. that I got him. And he just buries him. And And this is like this is all natural. This is he’s a kid. He’s he’s like 21. Like this is this is all natural. This is stuff. He’s like he’s like cool. I’m learning this on the fly. Like cool. I I have this technique. I know how to do this. I I’m good. Like they straight up just said like, “Hey kid, do you you have TJ Watt this week?” And he said, “Yeah, you go back if you’re There’s the two pancakes, but I I could I texted it when it happened. Dude, the touchdown run with Brayen Allen, like within a half a second, his hands are on Patrick Queen’s chest and Patrick Queen’s basically in the end zone from the eight yard line. You’re like, “Whoa, what what the [ __ ] was that?” Like, it’s not This is not like some middle of the It was not Kiko. This was This is an all prolevel player in the end zone. I know we were both short on time and we’ve done 40 minutes already when we said we’re going to do 20. I want to finish with this point on Rogers. Rogers was good yesterday. He was peak Rogers in terms of an elite Rogers is an elite game manager when he’s actually at his best and he improvises and does like two or three things a game that are amazing. That’s actually when he’s at his best, not when he’s gunslinging Rogers, not when he’s like mopey. He just like plays within the offense and just can find guys and manipulate me with his eyes and play action. He was unbelievable in play action yesterday. All that said, he took horrible sacks. He had two two things that should have gotten intercepted. He had multiple delay game penalties. He was not actually great. He didn’t like carve the Jets up. He had a pop pass for a touchdown threw for 220 yards. He still can operate at a high level when things are open and he sees the field and guys make coverage bus. Like he’ll find the open guy. So no shade. This narrative that like everyone with the Jets hates him and he was like this like black cat black sheep here. [ __ ] off man. Like I I can’t say this enough, dude. Of course he’s going to want to get revenge. I get it. And Justin Fields wanted a revenge and like the Steelers took a bunch of cheap shots that they got away with and the whole thing. I I just It’s so nauseating that everyone has like gravitated towards like, “Oh, he was so slighted here.” Like, dude, the Jets are not paying him $70 million to play quarterback for a team that’s in transition and he’s a celebrity quarterback and he’s a coach that hates celebrity quarterbacks. What What is not making sense here? Like that’s that’s all I really have to say about it. like Garrett Wilson doesn’t even speak to him. Should tell you more than you need to know. Um I I don’t know. Like good for Rogers and and good for them, but like this narrative that I don’t know. I just I’m so sick of it. I cannot I’m so happy it’s over. I I can’t can’t take it anymore. Absolutely. Yeah. I’m I’m very happy we’re done with that. And if you want to you want to talk about being being uh happy about maturity of your quarterback, I want you to if you if you have a chance, watch the fight again that happened on the sideline after Justin Fields got hurt. Justin Field just like takes off his helmet and starts laughing with like one of the coaches on the Steelers sideline and they’re just joking around. The Steelers actually slighted him. Like he actually has more reason to be mad at the Steelers than Aaron Rogers has to be mad at. Like I I just I guess like my point and and we’ll wrap here, but like it’s just one of those things where like I think yesterday hurt because I don’t even care if Rogers was going to play well or not. You just felt like the Quincy spear at the end of the game and then the bad like the bad play that Steven should have caught before that was like all the jokes aside like good for you. You’re probably in a better spot for what you want right now and the Jets are in a way better spot going forward because of what they have right now. And like it just sucked that you can’t be like hey we also beat you. Um maybe the Jets will see the Steelers down the road. Who knows? D I appreciate you hopping on again. Nice did hit a nice 41 minutes here in classic uh classic fashion. Again, disappointing loss yesterday. um huge game coming up, but I think there’s a lot to be excited about and the Jets got to build on it and start winning games. So, you know, it it’ll the moral victory thing will grow old quickly. Uh but for right now, I think there’s a lot of reason to be encouraged. Appreciate everybody for taking some time. We’ll talk to you guys soon.

Stephens to safety, put Stiggers in for him. Bench Adams and Gipson, I don’t want to see either of them again.
I’m disappointed that the secondary was the weak link especially when the Head Coach is former pro bowl DB and also a former DB coach before a coordinator. Why I’m encouraged is that one of the reasons we’ve sucked for a decade and a half is that we hire executives and coaches who came up on teams that had success and they come in confident they can replicate what they did in their prior team and they don’t realize how things actually work in NYC and with the JETS. Aaron Glenn actually understands because he’s one of us, he’s seen the good and the bad so he know. He’s doing exactly what Parcells did in his first year. People said it was bad to hire AG and then let him pick Mougey but I think it was actually better because the head coach has the be the general and everybody has to know it.
Quincy’s personal foul was the turning point. Steelers were about to roll over. Jets were beating up on them all game. Pittsburgh would’ve punted and the Jets would’ve scored on an exhausted Steelers defense on way to a rout. Jets were happy to give away the game. Players were all smiles after the game. Even Glenn looked satisfied. Very weird to run the ball down the throat of a top 5 run defense and stuff their run, dominating on both sides of the ball, and still lose. If Quincy doesn’t play the Jets win that game.
Or MC3 to safety and Stiggers in the slot.
Membou was fantastic in his first start against T. J. Watts.
Put Moore in at Safety. Dude is a Baller !!!
Nobody's talking about the terrible clock management at the end of the first half.
There was no reason for us to start calling timeouts. we just gave the Steelers more time to drive the ball down the field and score.
Great 41 minutes. Im excited from what I saw.
Four sacks of Rodgers. At least three dropped interceptions by the Jets.
Y'all trippin on this pod, we are not going to be on the bubble AT ALL, we will NOT look back at a 2 point loss and say, "OH😵 Noooo that fumble is what did it! Everything after week ONE was sooo Dope and it was the FUMBLE on kick return". Give me a f@×in Break!
