NBA LIVE! Los Angeles Lakers vs Minnesota Timberwolves LIVE | NBA PRESEASON | Sept. 9, 2025 | 2K26
Time to start the weekend in style. We welcome you to Friday Night Basketball on 2K Sports. This is Brian Anderson. I’m here with Hall of Famers Grant Hill and Doris Burke. Our reporter Ally Leforce and the upcoming schedule for the Minnesota Timberwolves. On Sunday, they’ll face off against Pascal Seakum and the Indiana Pacers. Then on Monday, they’ll be taking on Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets. And you know, for that matchup with Charlotte, it’s one that I’m curious about. It’ll be their sixth contest of the season for them and a game that should have a lot of great matchups. So, the opening lineup for the Timberwolves, Randall and Goar are in the middle. Edwards is the two, McDaniels the three, and it’s Connley in at the point guard position. And for the Lakers, LeBron and Hachimura in at the forward slots. Luca and Reeves are the one and the two. And it’s Aiden. And at the center position, we are just tipping off the season. When you look around the league doors, what are you tracking? Probably two things, VA. The rookies. I always am so curious to see how they respond in their debut and then the new signings for different teams. What does the fit look like? Now here’s McDaniels. [Applause] Go with a screen on Reeves. Just five to shoot. And Edward slams it in. How about Anthony Edwards the bounce. Go ahead and thanks to the AT&T connected cam for the up close and personal view of that slam. Now James [Applause] a screen on McDaniels to the inside. Good on the shot. Hey, take it right to the defense. Not a bad way to start this game. And just about a minute into this first quarter and let’s swing it over to the sideline and hear from Alli. Earlier I spoke with the Lakers head coach. Coach and I talked about the difficulties playing against Anthony Edwards. He said quote, “Usually you worry about his offense. He’s shown the last few years that he’s a lock down defender when he wants to be.” That’s something that we’ll need to factor into our game plan. Ant’s defense is now a concern for coaches as well. Brian, back to you. Great work, Ally. Thanks. [Applause] Here’s Edwards. And we’re about a minute and a half into the first quarter. Edwards can’t get down in the fall. Now Los Angeles with it to the paint. Here’s Aimura and he drops in the layup off the glass. Boy, even with the contact, Rui Hachimura doesn’t lose his touch or his concentration. So tough to distract this guy [Applause] for Minnesota. They’ve gone one for three so far. Randle a screen on Donic. And there’s the call. It’s going to be an illegal screen. One of the trickier plays to judge, but it would be hard to argue against the call. It is really difficult to get your feet completely set, to stay completely still. It’s almost surprising to me that it isn’t called more often. Now, here’s Aimura in his last outing. Eight points for him. Nice ball movement by Los Angeles. Shot clock at six. Here’s Reeds. Gets rebounded by Minnesota to the wing. Right side outside. Connley outside Edwards. Three-pointer. The kick out to Connley. Pass to Randall. [Applause] Second chance effort and Aiden pulls it down. The Lakers lead by four. And we’re joined now by Shams Girania. He’s calling in with a story. Good to have you, Sems. What’s going on? Well, the writing is on the wall. The Lakers are Luca’s team now, and it seems quite possible this will be King James’ final season with the team after he picked up his almost $53 million player option. While LeBron is not entirely comfortable with the situation from my understanding, and guys, he’s got to make the most of every season he has left. Yeah, got to roll with the punches. All right, Chs, thank you very much for that report. And Chris Finch wants a timeout. I think right now he might be looking at some adjustments. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] And now let’s glance at the league’s most aggressive defensive teams from last year. Fifth, the Timberwolves. They made life hard on opponents. One of the best defenses in the NBA last year. [Applause] and so it’s Minnesota with it. They trail by six. Randall outside to stop the run and he takes it up and lays it in. Boy, I love the confidence Julius Randall has in himself. This guy knows what it takes to score. James deciding where to go with it. Pass to Aiden. Outside Reeves. Aimura with a screen on Edwards. Out to Aimura. And here’s Aiden. Shot clock at three. And here’s Reeves outside. Can’t hit it. He’s 0 for two now. And this is exactly who you want taking that shot. He just missed it. [Applause] And here’s Randall. We saw him with 19 his last time out. Goar passes to Randall. The Lakers with a rebound, fresh off a win against the Warriors. It was an allout effort on defense. I mean, they stepped up for one another and helped each other out so well on this end. We talk about multiple efforts on the defensive end and I thought, boy, that was good oldfashioned focus, team effort. What a win. Now here’s McDaniels. Still no points. [Applause] No luck on that one. Ooh, excellent D there from Aiden. Aimura with the ball. He’s picked up by Connley. James outside. [Applause] Back to Aiden. McDaniels against James. And here’s Duch outside. Rudy Gobear with a rebound. And it’s Edwards with a ball for the T- Wolves. Four-point game coming off a win against the Blazers. Sometimes it’s difficult to get good looks on the road, but they ran the offense brilliantly. Well, they knew exactly how to approach that defense. They shot a fantastic percentage because they got quality looks. Well, read the floor. You kick it out to the open shooter. It’s a simple game. Pass to James. Oh, McDaniels with a steal. Now here’s Edwards and it’s all tied up. Well, we know this about Anthony Edwards. This guy one of the stronger guards in this game. That’s a tough finish. And now a timeout called by JJ Reic. And we might see some changes. Coach potentially looking to adjust [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] The Lakers have gone four of eight and looking in control. Pass to James. Donic outside. [Applause] Clock at six. Back to James. The shot is good. Donic making the play. James has got five now. You see there’s a hesitation to close out too hard on LeBron. They don’t want to see him get downhill. But that three-point shot is on point. Connley with the ball now guarded by Aiden. [Applause] Connley against Aiden. McDaniels from long range. Machimuro with a rebound. Los Angeles leading by three. Outside Reeves. [Applause] Now here’s Donic. Eight points in his last timeout. Boy, he looks and will take that shot every time. Just won’t go. Doris. What’s amazing about Ant-Man, he’s worked to become an elite floor spacer. The reason that’s important, BA, is because we know what a dangerous driver and what a force of the win Anthony Edwards can be. What I love is he’s worked to become a legit threat and he leaned heavily into that three-point game. So important in the modern NBA. And Minnesota with possession here following the score by the Lakers. Edwards a pass to McDaniels offline with a three. Boy, still trying to get comfortable out there right now. Hachimura finds Donic on the wing. Reeves. Aiden. The screen on Edwards. Reeves tries again and Aiden gets it to go. Aiden’s got his second bucket of the night. This guy a relentless force on the glass. DeAndre Aton going to work and getting the put back. Randall outside. Back to Connley. Good ball movement here by Minnesota. [Applause] Here’s McDaniels. [Applause] The Timberwolves need to get off a shot here. Edwards, no good. Gosh, it feels like he’s pressing a little bit and obviously playing from behind doesn’t help. All right, let’s check in with Alli Leforce. Hey, well, LeBron is keeping it going. He said, “I appreciate these young guys coming up in the ranks and doing great things. I hope to have inspired them to carry it on when I decide that I’m done and keep this beautiful game going. Not just the league, but the purity of the game. That is what’s most important. Brian, he’s left an imprint. No question. Thanks a lot, Ally. Timberwolves trail by nine. They’ve been having major problems offensively. Definitely in a bit of a dry spell. And Chris Finch wants a timeout. He might have seen something he needs to review with his guys. Heat [Applause] [Applause] up here. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] And Los Angeles will go for a different look Here, Cleba. He’s checked in for DeAndre Aton. Vanderbilt comes in for Achimura. Larabi is checked in for LeBron. And Smart subbed in for Reeves. [Applause] [Applause] Here’s Dillingham. Pass to Shannon. Just four to shoot. Nails it from beyond the arc. And that’s what they want to do. Get him open looks early. Donic outside. Back to Smart. Larabia outside. [Applause] Donic feeling it out a bit from deep three-point range. The rebound by the Timberwolves. I love how they’ve attacked the boards here in the first quarter. Pass to Dillingham. [Applause] Devenzo with a screen on Smart. Here’s Dillingham. That misses. So no good on his first attempt of the night. Laabia passes to Donic. Shoots over Denzo. Donic. No good. At some point do you start to think about getting others involved. It has been a struggle. Fires from deep. Dillingham. No good. The Lakers lead by six. Down low. Here’s Vanderbelt. Nice dish and the layup goes down. And once more this half they find a way to get great position inside. Pass to Shannon. Now Miller. No good. Excellent D there from Labraia. Here’s Donic. One more 121 left in the first quarter and it’s Larabia missing and he almost made them regret defending him so loosely and after some uncertainty the Timberwolves moving forward under new governorship doors. Boy, that sale process was long and obviously at times quite contentious. I believe the organization has to be thrilled that that is finally in the past because what you want to do is focus on trying to continue the Wolves recent run of success. There’s a lot to be excited about with this young group. Randall, he’s checked in for Minnesota. Donic outside. Smart outside off target. That would have pushed the lead to double digits. Timberwolves trail by eight. To the middle, here’s Randall. Nice. Gets his second bucket. He’s two for four now. We know this about Devenzo, guys. He’s not just a scorer. He loves to get his teammates involved. Smart outside. And here’s Vanderbilt from the arc. The rebound by the Timberwolves. [Applause] 4 seconds separating the shot and game clocks. Randall against Vanderbilt. Pass to Shannon. Now Reed. Here’s Dillingham over Cleba. Another shot. No good at the rim. And that concludes the first quarter play. It’s Los Angeles up by six. And the second quarter about to get started. We’ll be back in a moment. Hope you’ve enjoyed the broadcast so far. Halfway through the first half in this one. What do you guys think about Los Angeles here in this one? Oh, what I love was that first quarter was all about leaking out and capitalizing in transition. Man, why wouldn’t they? You see their effectiveness in the open floor. Very difficult to slow down. Jared Vanderbilt out there with Jake Laravia. Then there’s Maxi Cleba. Then it’s Austin Reeds and it’s Smart in at the point guard position. That’s the Laker five. Now here’s Reeves. A 23-point game for him in the win against Golden State. The shots good. Yeah, Reeves is a talented scorer, one who’s adept at cashing in from the mid-range. Here’s Randall outside. Devenzo, hook it and it’s Randall with the assist. Steven Chenzo’s got his first three points of the game. Oh, that’s a pretty bounce pass. Nice. And so Smart will bring it up for the Lakers. Their biggest lead of the game was nine. Following this one, they hit the road to challenge the Kings at Golden One Center in Sacramento. It’s a quick turnaround on the road. Just one game. Pass to Randall. Here’s Reed. Back to Randall. Six to shoot. The deep three. No luck on that one. The Lakers lead by five outside Reeves. [Applause] Larabia right side 43 gets rebounded by Minnesota. Reeds got his sixth rebound on the night. Pass to Randall. Here’s Devenzo. He’s covered by Reeves. Back to Randall. Here’s Shannon, the 17-footer. It’s rebounded by Cleba. Well, it’s a make or miss league. Sometimes the Jays just don’t fall. It wasn’t a bad shot. Nice ball movement by Los Angeles. Arabia passes to Smart over Dillingham and the shot falls short that time. Timberwolves trail by five. Good. Second quarter play. Almost three minutes gone here. Low block shot. Randall can’t hit. That’s their plan to get him an opportunity to finish in tight. That’s a miss they can live with. Smart looking around. [Applause] Back to Vanderbilt to end the drought. The rebound by the Timberwolves. [Applause] Pass to Randall. [Applause] Count it. Make that three of seven so far for him. Boy, there was plenty of contact down low, but Randall assertive and able to find the finish. They set the screen. Randall against Smart. Now here’s Larabia. That’s in coming off an assist from Smart and the Lakers lead by six. Well, Grant, as more and more teams look to get up and down, you think that lends itself to going deeper down the roster? Oh, definitely. BA. Also, with the GLeague and bigger coaching staffs enabling end of the bench guys to get more reps, it helps them stay ready when their number is called. It’s smart on the wing. Back to Reeves. [Applause] picked it and now the T-Wolves on the break. Dillingham with the bucket. Well, keep your head up. Look for an opportunity to facilitate Julius Randall the delivery. And so now a timeout called by JJ Reick. He’s going to take a moment to give him a breather and talk things over. [Applause] Heat up Heat [Applause] up here. [Applause] Donic has checked in for the Lakers. And then for Minnesota, Rudy Gobear has checked in for Reed. Juane comes in for Shannon and it’s Anthony Edwards in for Dillingham. [Applause] And Reeves has got the ball here for the Los Angeles Lakers. Pass to Donic. And they doubled up. Donic. And here’s Clea. Cleba with a screen from deep. Reeves gets it to go. His second make in six tries. Their defense has to do a better job of smothering those shooters. Here’s Ju. He’s covered by Larabia. Pass to Randall over Vanderbilt. Randall can’t hit. Los Angeles leading by seven. Inside and Vanderbilt slams it in. Yeah. Well, Reeves is a fantastic passer at his position. His selfless attitude is a big reason why his teammates like playing with him. Offensively, it’s been a struggle for him. Yeah, they need to string together some shots to have any kind of chance. And it’s Randall with the jam. Might be undersized for a four, but that vertical more than makes up for it. The Lakers have gotten four of their first nine shots to go here in the second. Reeves finds Donic. He shoots over Denzo and it’s Donic missing. I think he’s gone completely dry. Nothing is hitting. And this is where you hope that he can find something easy so he can see the ball go through the net. Now here’s Edwards. A 38-point game for him in the win against the Trailblazers in Portland. The three. Devincenzo. It’s rebounded by Los Angeles. Vanderbilt’s got six rebounds in the game. Pass to Larabia from behind the ark. That one’s off. He’s one for six. And despite a struggle scoring the ball, they’ve done enough to build this lead. Good ball movement here by Minnesota. Randall against Cleba. Out to Devincenzo. The three. Book it. And it’s Randall with the assist. Randle’s got his third assist of the night. Shot ready off the catch. Dante Danchenzo with a jumper. Pass to Reeves from deep. Here’s Donic. Rebounded by Ju. Boy, you can’t buy a bucket. Shut out completely so far and yet they’re still ahead. Go with a screen on Clea from the elbow [Applause] right side. Ventenzo. Vanderbilt pulls it in. Vanderbilt’s got rebound number seven tonight. Well, Grant, the Lakers captured the three seed last season, but only the eighth best point differential in the West. What does that tell you? It tells me that they overachieved in the regular season, but a team this star-studded has postseason aspirations as well. That’s where they’ll look to improve. Now here’s Goar and Goar with the stuff. This guy always amongst the league leaders in dunks. Goar is a force around the cup. Pass to Donic. [Applause] Out of bounds. It’ll go to the Timberwolves. And it’s time to give you a look at the top three-point shooting teams from a year ago. The fourth spot held by the Timberwolves. Their three-point accuracy last year was exceptional, largely because of their patience. They would wait for the best look before pulling the trigger. And Los Angeles will go for a different look here. Aiden, he’s checked in for Cleba. Aimira comes in for Vanderbilt. James has checked in for Larabia. And Smart subbed in for Reeves. And then for Minnesota, McDaniels is checked in for Juang. And Connley subbed in for Devenzo. And Chris Finch wants a timeout. He’s going to talk it over with his guys. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Nas Reed’s checked in for the Timberwolves. [Applause] Here’s Reed. A 14-point game for him in the win against Portland. And guys, he was also huge on defense, turning away two shots and altering countless more. Now here’s Connley. Lets the three fly. The Lakers with a rebound. Aiden’s got four rebounds now. Smart with the ball. 11 points for him. Last game against Golden State. Donic outside. Six on the shot clock to stop the drought. and Eightton with the stuff. Well, the length and athleticism of DeAndre Aton make that an easy opportunity. Here’s Connley still without a bucket. Pass to McDaniels. Off target from three-point range. Los Angeles leading by four. James passes to Ashimura and he’ll take a trip to the line for two. Clearly got fouled on that shot. and Doris, the Wolves, the six seed last season, but by point differential, they were the second best team in the West. It didn’t start out smoothly for an organization that made major changes. The massive difference in personnel with Julius and Dante changed how they were structured, but boy, with a young superstar and Anthony Edwards, they figured it out. And I think they’re well positioned moving forward. [Applause] Well, Grant, we’ve heard Anthony Edwards talk about trusting his teammates. He understands you need everybody. Yeah, a lot falls on his shoulders offensively with this team, BA. So, those playmaking decisions in the moment a lot easier said than done. Now, here’s McDaniels. [Applause] Go with a screen on Aton. Oh, it’s stolen by Donic. And let’s send it over to Alli the Force. Thanks, Brian. Lakers coach JJ Reic has brought an attention to detail to this team. Austin Reef said, quote, “Set that foundation of doing stuff the right way, and if we do that, we can be a really good team.” Reick said, “It’s important to always emphasize the things that you want. That hopefully becomes part of your identity.” Back to you. Okay, Ally, thanks for the report. Here’s McDaniels following the score by the Lakers. Offensive struggles continue. Missing again. Hey, the struggle is real. He hasn’t found much success with his offense today. What a connection DeAndre Aton has with his guys. Great timing on the alleyoop. Timberwolves trail by 11. Outside Edwards, stay there. Smart against Connley. Pass to go. Connley looking for an opening. Six to shoot. Sinks it from distance. Connley’s got his first bucket of the game and he’s on the board for three. James with the ball. Picked up by Reed. Takes the three. Rudy Goar with a rebound. Go five rebounds in the game. McDaniels from long range. Aimura with the defensive effort and they’re doing strong work on the glass. A plus five advantage for them. James inside working on Reed. James can’t get it to go. Ooh, old school right there. No easy buckets. McDaniels passes to Connley. And here’s Edwards outside. McDaniels the second chance points on the tip in. McDaniels gotten his second bucket of the game. What an effort to get the tip in. Just wanting it a little bit more to the paint. Out to James. The shake. He can’t get that one to fall. McDaniels with some nice D. Pass to Connley. We’ve got 33 seconds left to play in the first half. Edwards with it. Aimura covering. Here’s McDaniels. Wing shot on the way and the basket is good. Now just a four-point Los Angeles lead. And here’s Donic. He’ll bring it up for the Lakers. They’ve led by as many as 11. [Applause] Oh, it would have counted had it fallen, but it is offline. And the first half comes to an end. We’ve got a close game going here. It’s Los Angeles up four. And we’ll be right back after halftime for the start of the third quarter. See you in just a bit. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Hello and welcome. Before we take a look at the action from the first half, a brief overview of some upcoming games. Taking a look at Los Angeles. Great start to the year. They came in prepared both mentally and with the game plan. Yeah, winning the first two games of the season would give them a huge confidence boost. Well, as we check out the results of the first half for the Lakers, it’s been neck and neck. They’ve controlled the pace and it’s been fast. Getting out in the open court and scoring before the defense could get set, says the Jet. That does it for halftime. Let’s get back to game action. Here’s Brian Anderson with the start of the third quarter. And we’ve got second half action for you. Thus far, a pretty evenly contested game. We’re seeing a tremendous game from DeAndre Aiden. You just love his patience offensively in the first half. Waited until he got the looks he wanted. You know, as a coach, you can preach good shot selection, but it’s up to the players to execute, and this guy has done just that. Timberwolves trail by four on the court for Minnesota. Edwards is the two. McDaniels the three. Randall and Goar are in the middle and it’s Connley in at the point. It’s stolen by Donic. Here’s James. Offensive board and Aiden gets it to go. Nice rebound. Trying to match the other team’s intensity right now. Randall outside. Outside McDaniels pass to Connley. Go Bear with a screen on Donic. Shot clock at six now. Here’s Randall. Sends it home from three-point land. Randle’s got 11. This defense just can’t stay connected to shooters. And if you’re looking for a steady hand to run the offense, Mike Connley has been the gold standard for years. BA. One thing coaches love is knowing what they will get from a player every season. With Mike Connley, that’s highlevel point guard play, a low mistake player, a knockdown shooter when left open, but more importantly, the first and only thing he thinks about nightly is how do we win this basketball game in front of us? Here’s Connley following the three-pointer by Los Angeles. Pass to Randall with the teardrop. Yes. And it’s Edwards picking up the assist. And that’s 13 points for Julius Randle. Just James on the wing. McDaniels covering. Oh, two vicious points from the King. And what you’re seeing is LeBron James get to the spots on the floor he wants to. And now you’re going to have to try to break his rhythm. That’s tough to do. Randall outside Edwards against Reeves. Left side Edwards. Pass to McDaniels. No good on the three and the shooter had very little space on that attempt. Right. He stays connected and great timing on the contest. Dantic with it. He’s picked up by Edwards from 9 ft again. The Lakers Donic so skilled at getting great position inside. And once he’s close, folks, good night. Goar finds Edwards outside. Connley [Applause] outside for Randall. Can’t hit that one. Aimura with the defensive effort. I’ll tell you what, they’ve been aggressive and they’ve been physical. That’s his third triple of the night. His second since halftime. And Minnesota has possession. They trail by 11. Their next game playing at home as the Pacers come to town. And that kicks off a string of three home games for them. And Chris Finch wants a timeout. coach taking this moment to speak to his guys, maybe alter some of the game plan. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] And since we have a moment, here are last year’s ‘s most efficient scorers around the league. In the third spot, Rudy Gobear. So consistent from the floor. He shot it at a great clip last season. [Applause] Connley finds Goar. And here’s Connley. [Applause] Here’s Randall. Down to five on the shot clock. The kick out to Connley to win the run. Book it. And it’s Randall with the assist. Randle’s got four assists in the game. Their three-point shooting has been on point here in the second half. Los Angeles leading by eight. Pass to Aiden. James outside. [Applause] Connelly against Donic. Oh, deflected. Clock at six. James inside. 15 points in the game. Sinks it again. That’s his seventh made field goal in 11 tries. [Applause] And so it’s Connley who brings up the ball for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Pass to Edwards. Tries to break his ice. Aimuro with a rebound. You have to credit their effort. I mean, they’ve done an amazing job on the glass. Touches it home. It does not happen too often, but boy, when Luca gets the opportunity to throw it down, he relishes it. Timberwolves trail by 12 outside Edwards. Randall outside and a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. Hey, if you can’t block it, sending him to the line can be the next best thing. And let’s take a moment to get your take, guys, on the scoring so far for Los Angeles. These guys have incredible stamina based on how they’ve been running the floor, using speedy transition play to get fast break points. Second chance points have also been a big part of what’s happened in this game. Crashing the boards with authority, turning those opportunities into second chance points. Boy, big time. Big time on the offensive glass. [Applause] [Applause] and he sinks the second. Grant, you look at some of the rule changes in recent years. Does it seem to you like coaches challenges are here to stay? You know, BA, it does. And I think that’s a good thing. You know, I can think of a few calls I would have liked to challenge in my day. So, it’s a nice option to have. Almost too wide open there. That’s like a warm-up jumper for him. The guys, over the years, we’ve seen Randall become a much more aggressive scorer. You love his tenacity. The Lakers lead by nine. James outside outside. Reeves back to James to the middle. Tipped away and Gobear with a block. Learn the lesson quickly, folks. Do not test Rudy Goar. And that one goes out of bounds. Last touch by McDaniels. Well, one guy’s thinking Zigg, the other Zag. And it’s nothing good resulting. Los Angeles has gone two for two from deep here in the third. Reeves finds James down low. Go Bear with a steal on the break. Here’s Randall. Good. The assist goes to Edwards. Edwards has got his fourth assist with that last one. Boy, this guy’s been a monster this quarter. His team has needed it. The Lakers have gone seven of 10 here in the second half. Outside Reeves [Applause] James outside McDaniels with some nice D. Timberwolves trail by seven. To the inside. Stolen by Aiden. Donic against Connley. Pass to Aiden outside. Reeves McDaniels against James from deep. Here’s Donic. Gets the three ball to go. Donic has got seven points for the quarter. Well, Luca Donuch on the receiving end of a quality pass. We usually see him with the ball for three. Randall gets rebounded by Los Angeles. James has got four rebounds in the game. Donic passes to Aiden and good. Got the friendly bounce off the right side of the rim. And now it’s a 12-point Laker lead. The Timberwolves have gone five for nine from the floor in the third quarter. Down low. Here’s Gobear. Oh, and Gobear powers it home. And vertical threat that is Rudy Goar. What a ferocious finish at the rim. Los Angeles has gotten all three from downtown so far in the second half. Aimura finds Aiden and stolen by Goar. [Applause] McDaniels inside check by James. The put back controls the rebound and the put back. This guy’s been impressive this quarter putting his team on his back. Pass to James. James double team McDaniels with the rebound. McDaniels got six rebounds now in the game to the paint. Here’s Randall. Soft touch off the glass. 22 points for Julius Randall. I mean, they’ve been relentless. Just keep getting shots at the rim. And Reeves has got the ball here for the Los Angeles Lakers. They held a 12-point lead earlier. Here’s Donic. Donic finds his opening on the inside. Boy, the halftime break. I don’t know what they’re getting to drink back there, but he is pouring it on right now. [Applause] Timberwolves trail by eight. Outside Edwards McDaniels against James. Good ball movement here by Minnesota. And here’s Edwards outside. It’s rebounded by Los Angeles. Boy, this is the story of the night for this guy. He’s taken a lot of questionable shots. Pass to Aiden. Edwards against Reeves. Six on the shot clock. And Don puts up a deep three. Edwards pulls it in. Boy, they’ve managed without him to a degree which bodess well for them overall. Randle right side [Applause] and the shots good. Randle’s got 24. Hey, they’re just getting pushed around inside. Los Angeles leading by six. And now a timeout called by JJ Reic. He’ll take the opportunity to regroup. Without a doubt, Ant-Man is one of the most entertaining players in the league. Doris, you cannot take your eyes off Anthony Edwards when he’s playing in a basketball game. The skill set is electric. But beyond that, he’s got a 1000 watt smile and he understands this is an entertainment medium. Heat. [Applause] Heat. And the Lakers will go for a different look here. Clea, he’s checked in for DeAndre Aton. Vanderbilt comes in for Achie Mura. Larabia has checked in for James. And it’s Marcus Smart in for Donic. And a new group getting ready for the Timberwolves. Reeds checked in for Goar. Shannon comes in for McDaniels. Devinzo, he’s checked in for Anthony Edwards. And Dillingham subbed in for Connley. Reeves against Deventenzo. Outside Reeves. Smart outside. And once again off the mark by Los Angeles. Timberwolves trail by six. Here’s Dillingham. Pass to Randall. [Applause] Six to shoot. The Lakers with a rebound. Vanderbilt’s got rebound number eight now. Smart finds Reeves. [Applause] Now clea. Pass to Smart. Los Angeles needs to get off a shot. And here’s Vanderbilt from the arc. Hauled in by Devanchenzo. Minnesota has gone two for five from three since halftime. Here’s Dillingham. [Applause] Reed a screen on Smart. Right side. Agreed. Randall the pass to Devenenzo. Pats in coming off an assist from Randall. Dvenzo’s got nine. Well, that’s the floor spacing ability. Dvenzo with the rise and fire. Los Angeles leading by three. [Applause] 59 seconds left in the third quarter of the game. Reeves against Devenenzo. [Applause] Pass to Vanderbilt. Devincenzo with the steal. A three. Randall gets rebounded by Los Angeles. They held a 12-point lead earlier. [Music] Smart outside. They get back on track. Randle closed down the board. Randle’s got four rebounds now. [Applause] 17 seconds left to play in the third quarter here. [Applause] that shot off. And so it’s LeBron James making things happen for Los Angeles, helping them space the floor. Two triples in that quarter, three for the game. And don’t go far. We’ll be right back. All right, let’s take a look at our assist of the game presented by State Farm. You know, I’m kind of stoked that this was a choice because I love this pass. A remarkable find. He put his court vision on full display. Well, making the game easy for your teammates. All about putting them in a position to score. That’s pretty. Three tense quarters behind us. One more to go. Thanks for being with us as we get ready for the fourth. Jared Vanderbilt out there with Maxi Cleba. Then there’s Marcus Smart. Then it’s Jake Larabia. And it’s Reeves in at the two. That’s the Laker five. The screener was leaning a bit right there. His feet may not have been planted. Pretty obvious call by the officials. You know, he’s just leaning a little bit. You try to get away with it, but boy, the official all over it. Here’s Dillingham. Pass to Randall. Here’s [Applause] Dillingham to tie it up. The Lakers with a rebound. Vanderbilt’s got nine rebounds in the game. Boy, he’s getting it done. Reeves. The pass to Smart. [Applause] Back to Reeves looking to get back on track. Good work defensively by Devanchenzo. Boy, another miss. But you have to say to his teammates, great job. They have picked him up all evening long. Zero rim protection. Unforgivable in a tight ball game like this. You know, we talk about execution offensively coming down the stretch. To me, it’s as important defensively. And they didn’t have it. [Applause] About a minute and a half into the fourth now. Lavia with a screen. There we go. Here’s Reeds. There’s the three. Gets rebounded by Minnesota. Reeds got rebound number 11. Pass to Devincenzo. That’s in. Coming off an assist from Randall. Randall’s got his seventh assist of the game with that last one. Here’s Smart [Applause] Labia with a screen. goes up on the wing and once again off the mark by Los Angeles. Minnesota in the lead now Randall. [Applause] Shot clock at six. Can’t hit it from 12 ft for Los Angeles. They’ve gone 0 for three in this fourth. Not good. Larabia passes to Vanderbilt. Nice ball movement by Los Angeles. Smart. A screen on Devenzo. And here’s Reeves outside. Connects from downtown. Oh, the release, the height. Reeves really knows his three-point shot inside and out. And so Randall will bring it up for the Timberwolves. They played a great fourth quarter defensively, allowing only three points. Here’s Shannon. And out of bounds, Los Angeles will have it. Tough one. In a game where every possession is valuable, turnovers can make the difference. And Los Angeles making a change here. Donic checked in. The Timberwolves also with a sub. Edwards has checked in. And we’re about 3 minutes into the fourth now. It’s Smart on the wing. Off target with the three. The Timberwolves have gotten half of their attempts to fall in the fourth. Two for four now. Randall can’t hit. The Lakers in the lead. Pass to Cleba. And here’s Donic. [Applause] Four on the clock. Yep, that one goes. Konic has got 11 points here in the second half. After an ice cold start to this game, he is pouring it on here in the second half. Edwards the pass to Devenzo. Another miss by Minnesota. Los Angeles leading by three. Donic outside. [Applause] Smart outside from outside the arc. The shot no good. Good work defensively by Devincenzo trying to find a spark here. Yes indeed. A rough stretch offensively. They could really use a basket. [Applause] Randall with a drive and he comes up for the bucket. Randle’s got 26 points. Well, that is patented Julius Randall. put it on the deck and looked to score. Los Angeles has gone only one of four from the perimeter here in this fourth quarter. Here’s Donic. Edwards pulls it in. The Timberwolves have gotten three of seven attempts in this fourth quarter to fall. Denzo, the pass to Randall. It’s deflected and they’re able to recover now. The Lakers moving it up. It’s Smart on the wing. Dven Chenzo covering. From deep. Here’s Donic on target from range and the Lakers lead by four. You know, you have to like that he’s still getting quality touches and delivering now after getting blanked in the first half. Pass to Reed outside Devenzo. Now Randall. The kick out to Edwards. Five on the clock. Up and over. Donic. Edwards. No good. The Lakers lead by four. Donic outside now. Here’s Smart. [Applause] from deep three-point land. Randle pulls down the board. Randle’s got five rebounds tonight. [Applause] Donic against Edwards. Reed a screen on Donic. Pass to Devenzo. The Timberwolves again can’t hit. Los Angeles has gone two of six so far in the fourth. Donic passes to Labraia. Back to Donic. This one for three. Randle pulls down the board. Randle’s got six rebounds in the game. Pass to Shannon outside Edwards. And here’s Randall. He’s checked by Cleba. [Applause] Randle can’t hit. I I’ll give him a ton of credit here. He is trying to make plays but nothing right now helping his team. Smart against Debenzo and stolen by Edwards to the middle on the break. Debenzo with it. Clea on him. Minnesota again missing. The Lakers lead by four. From deep. Here’s Donic. He drops it from range. Donic has got eight points in the quarter. The defense is nowhere to be found. Guarding the three-point shot. Reed sets a screen outside for Randall to win the drought. Rebounded by the Lakers. He’s fallen into a bit of a slump this quarter. How quickly things can turn. Donic left side. pass to Cleba and he was camped in the lane there. He gets a 3second call and Los Angeles will go for a different look here. DeAndre Eaton, he’s checked in for Cleba. Aimura comes in for Vanderbilt. James is checked in for Larabia and Reeves is subbed in for Smart. And then for Minnesota, Rudy Gobear is checked in for Reed. McDaniels comes in for Shannon. And Mike Connley is subbed in for Devenzo. Now here’s Randall. The shot that time not on target. Aimura with the defensive effort. Donic outside. And he’s gone to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up. Rudy Gobear picks one up. This guy such a tough cover. Donuch generates so much offense in so many ways. [Applause] Two shots [Applause] on the miss. That’s good from Donuch. Ask any of the elite defenders in the NBA and they’ll tell you Donic is one of the toughest to guard. He’s got size. He’s got skill. He can get downhill. He mixes his pace. So much to contend with when you’re dealing with Luca Donic. Donic hits them both. Boy, Luca’s strength, his size, his savvy puts him at the free throw line so often. Timber Wolves trail by nine. And here’s Connley. Randle deciding where to go with it to halt the run. Rebound the Lakers. Hachimura’s got six rebounds in the game. Their strong work ethic has been evident on the glass. Really getting after it and being physical. Here’s Donic. And once again, off the mark by Los Angeles. Edwards. The pass to Connley. Here’s Edwards. Puts it up from 17. That’s all. McDaniels against James. At his size, LeBron is a handful inside and sometimes you can’t help but foul him to try and prevent that easy bucket. [Applause] [Applause] The first free throw is good. What’s striking about LeBron James is how his game has morphed to now it’s all about guile and smarts and experience. He continues to dominate just in a different way. And so he’s able to get one of two. Timberwolves trail by 10. Here’s McDaniels. [Applause] Now here’s Randall. [Applause] Six on the shot clock. McDaniels outside. Shoots it. He knocks down the jumper. Boy, that’s what you call great thinking on the fly. passing on the shot in midair and laying it off to the open man. Here’s James. Here are the Lakers now. They’re on a 14-4 run. Here comes the Oh, are you kidding me? LeBron LeBron James, ever the showman with an exceptional slam there. One of the best dunkers in the history of the game. And thanks to AT&T for a great look at that dunk on their connected care. They need something good to happen here. Yeah, they’ve gone way too long without a score. Knocks down the trifecta. Just one more example of his offensive arsenal. So tough to stop. Now here is James. [Applause] Now Dic. It’s t McDaniels, a thunderous two-hander with authority. Well, there’s tremendous length when it comes to Jaden McDaniels. And off the dribble drive at the cup, he’s tough. And James has got the ball here for the Los Angeles Lakers. They held a 12-point lead earlier. Here’s rebounded by McDaniels. Edwards against Reeds. Oh, no good. The Lakers lead by five. James inside. He’s against Goar. Yes, sir. It’s good. The ability to sustain productivity over the entirety of his career. LeBron James is a modern marvel. And Chris Finch calls timeout here. He wants to make sure everyone is aligned given the situation right now. shot in your face while you’re in you know they came to save me even if we are late cross over [Applause] is only in your face while you’re save [Music] gives us a chance to catch up with Ali. the force. I was able to listen in on what Chris Finch was going over with his team. He thinks there’s still very much in this game, saying, “It’s right there, but it’s on us to take care of it. We have to make it happen.” Hoping to inspire his team here. Thanks for that, Ally. [Applause] Now Randall Reeves with the ball. James outside. Here’s Donic outside. Reeds and there’s the foul. It’s on Rudy Goar. That’ll be his second foul of the game. outside G Reeves and no one in the vicinity stepping up and nailing an important shot to put this away. Yeah, playing with great energy and great effort. And as a coach, you’d love to see this from your team every single night. Now here’s Connley. Another shot. Edwards do it there for the rebound. Shot clock and game clock 1 second differential. Now James outside Aimura money from three. Well the team has preached to Rui Hachimore to be aggressive on the offensive end. That is the decisive decision making they’re looking for. So we see the Lakers taking the W here. A clean win and one where they clearly showed better energy. Yeah, so true. They put on a show here at home and I really think they had that extra swagger and confidence, too. Well, now we have some time to check in with Ally Leforce. Ally, hope you enjoy yourself. All right, thanks guys. DeAndre, a new season. How exciting is it to play ball in front of this home crowd? You know, um, with all the excitement and all the fans coming out here, really, I just wanted to put on a show for them to be honest and just win as many games as I play. The energy from the fans was missed. Thanks so much, DeAndre Ally. Thank you as always. And that’s going to do it tonight, folks, for our broadcast. For Doris Burton, Ally Leforce, and Grant Hill, and our entire crew, this is Brian Anderson thanking you for tuning in. And let’s reveal our player of the game, Luca Donuch.
