We Have to Continue to Grow Together | Press Conference
Um look at the end of the day didn’t make enough plays to put ourselves in position to win at the end. I thought our team played with great effort. Uh we had opportunities to keep this game with the ball with a chance to go win it even at the end. It was still an eight-point game. Didn’t make enough plays. You know, going two of 14 on third down is going to is going to make it hard. 13 penalties for 130 yards or whatever is also going to not going to win many games doing that. So that was disappointing. Um you know, couldn’t get much rhythm on offense. Our third downs were I think felt like we were in third and 10 plus almost the whole game. So hard to get a rhythm going offensively and then when we did have opportunities we had some drops and some things that happened that uh didn’t allow us to sort of keep going. Uh couldn’t get any rhythm offensively at all. Defensively I thought we played pretty good for most of the game but the you know some of the same things some of those third down penalties were critical. um thought we held them in check pretty good in the first half and then you know it got away from us cuz offensively we weren’t holding the ball well enough uh sustaining any drives and put those guys in some spots that was challenging. So despite all that um you know got the ball back with an in an eight-point game in a fourth quarter on the road against a really good football team. So, um, disappointed we couldn’t find a way to win. You spent the entire offse. Yeah, I’m just disappointed. I’m disappointed in that. Um, I didn’t obviously foresee that being the reason that would make the game really challenging. So, uh, yeah, disappointed. I I thought we we would be better than we were and we weren’t. So, we got some things to clean up and we got to get ready to go for the next one. at the end of half sequence with the three pass. Yeah, I was trying to be aggressive and see if I can get the ball moved out from underneath there and um we kind of got in a little bit of rhythm so trying to take advantage of of some momentum potentially and it didn’t really work out in our favor in that point. Worst case scenario to have turnown. Absolutely it is. Yeah. Yeah, that was that was um yeah, it’s a wild swing in the end of the first half that that I was, you know, tough to overcome those when you when you put yourself in that spot. And again, trying to be aggressive, see if we can get the ball moving back forward the other way a little bit and um didn’t really work out for us. How the horizontal passing qualify as aggressive there? What did you see that showed you that throwing the ball sideways? Did you have the Do you have the play calls, Paul? Did you see them? No. Okay. Were you expecting that? Uh we had a couple aggressive play calls down the field. Try to work across the field with some of the man coverage they were playing. So uh we just couldn’t didn’t hold up well enough in protection. They covered it pretty well. What happened just didn’t play at all second half? Uh I don’t know about the snap counts. I mean I’m pretty sure Yeah. I mean that was about his pitch count. He was between 20 and 25 snaps in a game. So you say during the week there would be no pitch count. No, I didn’t say that. I told I didn’t say anything about it to be honest, but he was on a he was on a pitch count. You mentioned being in those third and 10 situations, not every time, but a lot of times when running the ball first and second, what can you do to not be so why are you running so much on those first couple, especially against this team, you know, they run? Well, trying to run the ball so we don’t drop back and face their pass rush every snap. You know, that was part of it. We ran the ball decent the first couple series. Um, you know, but there’s there’s you’re trying to keep those guys from from pinning back and rushing the entire game, which is what happened some in the second half and getting those down to distances. We we had some production in a run game. Didn’t have enough. Um, but but yeah, that’s why that’s why you do it is you’re trying to keep some balance and get yourself in some manageable third downs, which we weren’t in any of them for most of the game. Four turnovers and you only get six points off their territory. Yeah, incredibly frustrating. Yeah, those are opportunities to score points and put the game away and we didn’t do it. What do you sacks you guys? What’s the teaching? Can’t take a sack in those situations. Um it’s a learning moment for him. This is this is a really tough test out the gate in his first start against this defense in this stadium. And um there’s some plenty of things he’s going to learn. He’s going to learn a lot over the course of these games. And um you know, he’s no none of us are perfect. He’s not going to play perfect. And there’s things that we’re going to keep coaching and keep harping on and um he’ll learn quick. Did you have an outlet on those two plays, Brian? Were there places for him to go on those two play? Uh um which one’s he talking about, Paul? When you had the ball on 23 on the on the took the two sacks, lost like 27 yards. Yeah, I mean there was there was potential. I have to look at it. I can’t tell you what it looked like right now without watching it. Um you know, we got we got beat on the rush pretty good. One of them I know we recovered, so I have to look at it. I’ll get back to you tomorrow about it. You mentioned a couple more guys. I don’t know. We’ll find out. Um we got to we got to do we got to do a better job in that area. Um some of the things were were disappointing but um some of the some of the penalty stuff you’re at the the mercy of who’s throwing flags and and what they see and how they see it and we got to make sure we’re we’re playing within the rules. Jefferson had two and I believe they were on third down. What can you do to cor? That’s something that happened a lot later. Yeah, things that I thought we had grown from and obviously we got to do a better job still. We’re not there yet. Um was disappointed that the false start was was an interesting one. Um I didn’t know that he crossed the line and all the guy did was point and they flagged it. I didn’t think he actually crossed the line of scrimmage and got back. I thought you had to touch a guy. But um and then the last one, he’s just he’s playing hard and trying to play through the whistle and and he makes contact and it looks probably a lot worse than it really was, but again, they’re going to call it. So, we got to pull off of those things and um we got to do a better job on the matter play where they move out of bounds on the sidelines and it looked like his elbow hit inbounds first. Yeah, you got to get a foot in bounds, too. Uh which we didn’t have a clean look at whether his foot was down as well. An elbow doesn’t equal two feet. So, uh his foot would have had to come down as well. We didn’t have a clean look. So, the call from upstairs was that they wasn’t worth challenging. last year. Yeah, it’s the NFL. I mean, the next game’s coming in seven days and uh we got another good team coming our place, another playoff caliber football team. We got to get ready to go. We got to clean up what we didn’t do well and get ready to go play another game. Uh they come every week. There’s no there’s no grace period, you know, you got to get ready to go again. You make your corrections, you try to get better, and then you move on and go play again. And uh despite the chances to learn some of the challenges that Cam had, I guess how did you see him handle the moment of of today? Yeah, the moment’s not too big for him. Uh he was poised, he was calm. Uh he he saw things well. There’s a lot of positives from from his demeanor and how he handled himself in the sideline in between series and on the field. Um so I think he’ll improve at a rapid rate. message encouraging given the fact in this game. Uh I think both can be true. You know, I think there’s some things that are encouraging. Um but I’m very much disappointed that we lost. I’m very much disappointed in the things that we didn’t execute well enough and I’m disappointed in the penalty process. I didn’t think that uh that was something that was going to show up the way it did today um for obvious reasons. And um yeah, there’s there’s there’s plenty of disappointment. Um, but the encouraging part is is that we we found our way to to to be in this game for most of it. Um, and we just got to find a way to play better when it when when we need plays to be made. I guess what’s the frustration while you guys opportunities were able to capitalize and stay? Well, I mean, we didn’t score a touchdown. That’s that’s really the biggest frustration. Um, shooting oursel in the foot. Um, just staying in long situations, which we can stay with. Um, at the end of the day, we just got to continue to get better. That’s only game one. Uh we got a long road ahead of us. We got 60 more to try to go get a win. What would you say the biggest lesson you learned from this start? Uh just got to be better situationally. U knowing when you know we on the edge of field goal range, not taking a bad sack, just getting the ball out. Um and whether that’s dirting it or having to get out the pocket to throw it away. So just be better situationally. Um I would I would say just whether it was checking something or just the to get the ball out. I would say just throwing guys open more. Um giving the chances for my receivers to make a play. Um then it also comes down to everybody on offense doing a job. Everyone living. Um so we just got to continue to grow together. It’s the first game. We’re not really um tripping, you know, too much on it, but we know we all got stuff to clean up, including myself. So, you know, we’re ready for next week. Push you guys out of field range. After you take the first one, do you think all right, this happened and it can’t happen again? I know, but like what do you think I guess during the second push? Uh yeah, as soon as you take the first one, uh it goes to your mind. You can’t take the second one. Um but the end of the day, uh you going through the play call. um I can’t control a lot of stuff, but I can control um the protections and getting the ball to my receivers. So, you know, I just try to do my job and help leading this offense. Uh you know, scoring touchdowns. So, uh it’s just something that, you know, we a young group. We got to keep playing. Um we can’t have no excuses. Um but the end of the day, I mean, we we took a loss today. So, you know, we got to watch this film, learn from it, and try to win next week. You guys turn six points. How does that make ass? Um, honestly, I mean, we ain’t score a touchdown today. So, I mean, the only way is up. I mean, try to score a touchdown next week, try to score score a couple of them next week. So, you know, we just got to keep on grinding, keep leaning on each other. U continue to continue to, you know, just get in out of the huddle. I think as the game went on, we we got better at it getting out of the huddle. Um, not letting the crowd make a factor. But, I mean, it’s just it’s our first game together. Um, we get we get a lot more opportunities to practice this week, try to go beat the Rams. How would you kind of see? Um, I think we very discipline. Um, it could be some calls that are questionable, but I mean, end of the day, we control our destiny. We didn’t we didn’t do that to the standard that we want to. Um, so from my job, the offensive line to the running backs and receivers, we all got to lock in on the little things. Um, so, you know, that’s something that we going to preach this week uh going to the Rams game. How did you feel there? I felt good honestly. Um I just I felt alive again just finally being live knowing that it’s not a preseason game. It’s a real football game. But I mean the the rush that you get, I mean it’s unbelievable. It’s something that you know you you wouldn’t want to trade for the world. So you know I’m blessed to be in this position. I’m blessed to have guys around me who believe in me. Um and we just we just really trying to get better. So you know we just got to continue to take it one week at a time. But I mean, it feel good to get out there. I’m sorry if it’s a little repetitive. You feel a little bit of a sense of guilt towards the defense when they give you the ball the way they were giving you the ball and you guys aren’t turning it into the kind of points you need to. Uh, I mean, yeah, every offense offense should think like that. Um, we want to be one of the best ones out there, but the end day, you get defense who gets three, four turnovers for you, you can’t capitalize off. That’s at the end day that’s on us. So, u we just we just continue to learn, continue to grow together. Um continue to connect each and every day. Um and I’m I’m just ready for to watch film, get to work next week, you know, try to go get a win. Couple more positives maybe you can build off going into next week. Say that again. What are some of the positives maybe that you can build off next week? Um that we can be explosive. Um we just got to connect on the play from myself to the receiver group. Uh we can we can be explosive. Um, then also we’re we’re able to run the football. I think that’s a that’s a plus side of our game that, you know, we can run the football if we really want to. Um, and then coach Kahan, he’s going to always put the ball in my hands. He’s going to do what’s best for the offense. And so, you know, I’m excited to, you know, continue to grow with those guys. Uh, I got a lot of freedom. He’s given me that freedom since they drafted me. So, um, a lot of stuff I don’t have to check because he caused good plays. So, uh, it’s really just me what I think in the moment. If it’s a coverage I like, I know what I want to get to, I’m going to do it. So, uh, me and a receiver just got to continue watching film, continue them seeing what I see on the field and then me listening to them, vice versa. So, you know, I’m excited for next week. Excited to go try to get a win. There’s one play where you had a a blitzer personally threw on you kind of play most people think are dead where you you kind of slung it under his arm. Think it maybe surprised to that that you got it all and he wasn’t able to collect it. Is that still the kind of play that maybe people have to get used to with you that hey, it might look like it’s dead. Don’t don’t count me out. I might find a way to get you the ball and be ready for it no matter what. No, they used to it. Um the receivers they used to the Titans are used to it. We just got to connect. We didn’t do that enough today. Uh so we going to keep on getting time down, keep on working with each other. U you know when practice comes next week, you know, try to make plays next week. lastidence. Is there anything you say to him after a tough game or do you kind uh he a vet he he knows what to do but you know I just continue to tell him keep keep playing the game. Um I have a great game you know I got to tell myself keep playing the game long as the O line and the running back. So um we had the ball down eight with a minute ago we was down there in midfield. We didn’t capitalize. So you know defense they gave us opportunity to win the game. We didn’t get the job done. So, you know, everybody on offense, we we all accountable for our actions. And so, you know, we just going to watch the film, get better off of it, and try to win.

That was a VERY win-able game. Not bad for Cam Ward's first NFL game. Cam looked GREAT !!! So did Elic Ayomanor !!!
DEN was the toughest defense on the TEN schedule. You have 2 with HOU (Stingley) and 1 with SEA (Woolen). CLE has two tough corners. But none of those teams are as tough as DEN.
Someone should let Callahan know that an elbow down equals 2 feet….Youd think with a dad coaching in the league 30 years and himself coaching a decade he would have figured that one out by now. Sell this team, 30 years of the same bs every year.
Big Jeff gonna be talking his shit to Cam this week.
Wow some of these comments are insane…its 1 game 1st game of the season in probably one of the toughest places to play if not the toughest…keep your powder dry as coach Mac would say..geeze
Nail in the coffin fire callahan
Take accountability for your sorry play calling you suck i hope we fire your ass
I think there might be someone pulling the strings as to why every single offensive play caller the titans get for the past years calls plays to lose the game. From robiskie to downing to Callahan
I think we might have a legit nfl scandal and this shit might be rigged honest thoughts?
Don't put blame on him this was totally your fault period and calvin with all the money we paying you for you to be dropping balls we should drop your ass right back off in jackson your services are no longer needed
Callahan needs to be on the hot seat!!!!! His play calling is trash and no receivers were catching the football đ much in the 4th quarter when they needed them to Ridley is overpaid and overaided at times!!!!!! When he's not playing well he's no where's near a number 1 receiver!!!!!! At least Aj brown could catch the football đ when he was with Tennessee
âAn elbow doesnât equal 2 feet.â Sir how did u get this job
Yesterday game was definitely on the Coach đđž
So he doesnât know what the caliber for a catch is, canât win games when you have a coach that doesnât even know the rules
This coach is so bad, imo. I understand that the Titans still have a lot to do. But between the O Line, penalties, receivers not using their football iq and continuing a route, the receivers greased hands, and coach, this is going to be a loooooooooong season.
You talking way too much.this dude need to be a position coach at best.no way in the hell should he be coaching the titans.
thatâs my qb we got a dog
Zero accountability. Zero responsibility for his mistakes. For a HC thatâs so quick to throw players under the bus he sure is quick to dodge all accountability for a game HE LOST. Brian Callahan lost us this game. Fuck anyone who says otherwise. Cam played great IN SPITE of Callahanâs stupid playcalling. He is a weasel of a man. A weak nepo baby whoâs never earned anything in his life. He has no business coaching an NFL team
#FireCallahan
brian lost the game and didnt take any responsibility
Does Amy Adams miss Mike Vrabel yet? Dumbest decision in Titans historyâŚ.
The rookie QB was the most poised member of the team yesterday. The 2nd year coach called a poor game offensively and the veteran WR Ridley had costly drops.. the veteran DT Simmons had costly penalties.. Cam, Elic and Dike ALL ROOKIES played well.. the moment wasn't too big for them. Outside of the massive amount of penalties. Denard Wilson had the Defense ready to play. 4 turnovers and no touchdowns.. When the rush started giving the O line problems in the 2nd half he didn't call any screens or quick game to the tight ends or if he did I didn't see it.

We were in 3rd and longs because yall dummies keep running the dang ball! Didnt even give cam a chance to throw it in the redzone smh
im not surprised at all that he's not taking any accountability for this loss
