WILD Pelicans Update – Report Reveals NEXT Trade…
We have a wild New Orleans Pelicans update as a report has revealed two of the players most likely to be involved in trades in this upcoming New Orleans Pelicans season. Meanwhile, we are also seeing the X factor of this team being revealed and why this is the case ahead of a season for the Pelicans that has a lot of moving parts, including a coach who very likely could find his way out the door if things do not go correctly for the team. We are going to discuss all this. There’s a lot to go over, guys. What’s up? Welcome back to the channel. If you guys are part of that percentage that’s not subscribed, if you’re part of that 48% that’s not subscribed to Pelicans Digest, make sure to subscribe for daily New Orleans Pelicans updates. We got a lot of great videos coming out every single day for you that you do not want to miss out on. But with that being said, let’s jump into it. There is a lot to go over on the Pelicans right now. Look, as we know, when Joe Dumar took over this team, there was a lot of questions surrounding what the direction was going to be. You have a superstar in Zion Williamson. That’s no doubt. But Zion obviously is hindered by injuries. Trey Murphy enjoyed a breakout year and the Pelicans had a bunch of talented players in order to really feel like they could start winning some games. Part of the issue was their point guard Dejante Murray did go down with an Achilles injury in February that he will be back for at some point this season, but not instantly, which does cause a lot of concern going forwards. He’s obviously going to be off probably the rest of this year, 2025, and then we’ll see him some point in early 2026 is my expectation when it comes to Deontay Murray. But genuinely, as this team unfolds, they do need to compete, especially after Dumar’s decision to swap picks with the Atlanta Hawks in that Derek Queen trade. So, the Pelicans, they got to win games. However, there has been talk about trades surrounding this team, and they both happen for sort of different reasons, and we’re going to jump into both of those before discussing a lot more with this team as well. As it was mentioned that Trey Murphy is one of the people to watch for a trade as Murphy has blossomed into a star for the Pelicans over the last few seasons and he has also entered trade rumors. It has been reported that many teams have contacted New Orleans regarding the 25-year-old forward though the Pelicans have an extremely high asking price for him. Despite this, a team could be willing to offer a large trade package for Murphy ahead of his trade deadline to add a solid 3 and D wing with superstar bounce that Athlon Shorts should have mentioned to their roster, which could work out well for the Pelicans during the rebuild. Now, obviously, again, this means committing to a rebuild and losing out on a 25-year-old who put up 21 points per game last year, five rebounds, and three and a half assists. He also got a steal per game. He’s an excellent defender, good three-point shooter, especially in those corners. Reot 44% from three, and is a phenomenal dunker and cutter as well. Trey Murphy has all the makings of a player that you do want to keep. However, he’s found himself in trade rumors constantly, which makes you think as long as there is a high asking price and not no asking price. We do see a world where Murphy is moved, but honestly at this point it feels pretty clear on what a package involving Trey Murphy would be. And it would be something very similar to what the Brooklyn Nets and Memphis Grizzlies acquired for male Bridges and Desmond Bane respectively. We’d see a very similar package, especially considering the Desmond Bane one, I think more than the Bridges one, cuz at the end of the day, Murphy’s a couple years younger and he did enjoy a breakout. And the Pelicans, again, they don’t have control over their 2026 first round pick. So, to be willing to part with Trey Murphy in a deal where you almost certainly wouldn’t be getting back a player of the same standard, unless this is a player, a trade for a star player, where Trey Murphy is the main focal point of a trade package, then what we’re going to be seeing is a world where the Pelicans are accepting defeat despite not having a pick. That would cost a lot extra as well. So, if a team did want to trade for Trey Murphy, it would cost a whole lot. And for that reason, I don’t really expect Murphy to get traded. However, a guy like Jose Alvarado does make more sense to be on the trade block, which he was mentioned to be one of those other guys that could be traded. As mentioned by Athlon, Jose Alvarado has been a key piece in New Orleans’s back court during his four seasons in the NBA. Though he has struggled with injuries in that time, the 27-year-old guard has played in more than 60 60 games just once during his NBA career. And though he is a solid backup point guard, he isn’t really healthy that often. And because of this, many teams in need of a backup point guard could show interest in Alvarado this season. And New Orleans may be willing to move him due to the abundance of guards on their roster. Now, Alvarado last year was not efficient scoring the ball, but he’s not really there to score the ball. He put up 10 points per game, two and a half rebounds, and four and a half assists. He’s there as a good defender who excels in getting steals, getting 1.3 steals per game off the bench while also getting some good assists. Alvarado is a nice player to have. He’s a small guard at six feet tall and teams do like him for the energy that he brings and the fact that he is a positive player. All that being said though, he has struggled to be efficient scoring the ball last season which does raise some questions about how much his value is going to be. That’s where things get tricky. I mean, we look at a guy like Trey Murphy and we see his contract. He just signed an extension. So, to pull him away from the Pelicans, that becomes pretty difficult to pull off. However, when we look at a guy like Jose Alvarado, things become a little bit different. And the reason they become different is because Alvarado’s got a player option at the end of this year, one that he might opt into. It’s no it’s no guarantee which way Alvarado is going to decide to swing with this. However, what we do know is the Pelicans won’t necessarily need all these guards and could use that money elsewhere or just avoid having to pay some salary there. I mean, we look at the depth chart right now. Jordan Pool will be at the one and then we’re going to see who goes to the two. probably Herb Jones with Trey Murphy at the three, Zion at the four, and Eaves Missy at the five or Eve Missy at the five to really roll out this starting five going into next season. And then off the bench, there’ll be guys like Jos Alvarado, Jordan Hawkins, Jeremiah Fierce, Cavon Looney, Derek Queen if he’s back. Sadique Bay will have a big role off the bench as well. Micah Peavey could find his way in there. And then eventually Deontay Murray comes back and then you have a guard and Jeremiah Fears who you just drafted. You also have Jordan P. You have Jordan Hawkins. You have Trey Alexander, you have players. I know Alexander’s not currently fully right, but he will get there as well. And I mean, we look at a guy like none other than Jeremiah Fears, where Fierce put up 17 points per game and two and a half assists with three rebounds per game in the summer league in his five games of action. He didn’t shoot well from three, but Fierce has shown a lot to be excited about going forwards as one of the top picks for the Pelicans. The Pelicans want to continue to give them minutes. So once Deonte’s is back and there’s also Jordan P, they’re going to make Fears one of the focal guards on this team because the Pelicans did use a top 10 pick on him after all. It makes perfect sense. Obviously, why would they not do that? There’s no reason not to. So when you consider that, when you consider this is a very tradable contract where there is some draft capital, a couple second round picks that could be acquired for José Alvarado. This feels like a home run of a deal for the Pelicans to move on from him at this point. It just feels like it’s time right now to do so. But also that depends on health going forwards as well. Now, on top of all this, we do have to talk about Jordan Pool as he was named the X-factor of the New Orleans Pelicans by Sports Illustrated, which is the right call if you ask me. Now, Sports Illustrated mentioned that moving off the expiring contracts of C.J. McCullum and Kelly Ool Linux. The pay the Pelicans traded them to the Washington Wizards for Jordan Pool, Sadique Bay, and a second rounder that they used to draft Micah Peavey. New Orleans’s X-factor is Jordan P. Looking at Pool’s NBA journey, he only ended up in Washington due to a falling out with the Golden State Warriors, or more specifically, Draymond Green, where he was a key member of the 2022 NBA Championship team. However, after getting in an altercation with Draymond Green at a Warriors practice, his time in Golden State appeared numbered, which it was, and he was on the Wizards last season where he put up 20.5 points per game, three rebounds, and 4.5 assists. He shot 43% from the field and 38% from three, showing an inept ability to scoring the ball while having a passing ability despite being more viewed as a guy who’s going to shoot first and ask questions later. And when he’s asking questions, it’s it’s after he shot second, third, and fourth as well. So, that’s the case to a degree, but if he buys into a Pelican system where he is going to be getting a lot of shots, Jordan Pool is such a perfect fit, especially once Dejonte Murray does come back. And if he could play efficient basketball like he did at Golden State Warriors level, it’s going to be really, really helpful for the Pelicans going forward. It’s also important to note that Jordan P, he did put up his most points per game in wins where he put up 23.5 points per game as well. So, we saw the man succeed in wins as well. Shout to Sports Illustrated for mentioning that. Guys, what do you think about all this? Let me know in the comments down below. Like this video, subscribe, turn on post notifications.
