How Today’s BLOCKBUSTER NBA News Impacts The Philadelphia 76ers
[Music] Another restricted free agent domino has fallen as Josh Giddy has signed a contract with the Bulls. He joins Cam Thomas as two restricted free agents to sign deals with their teams. And it is a big one for Josh Giddy and the Bulls. There have been talks over the past few days they were going to come somewhere around the $22 million per year mark. Well, Sham Shirania breaking the news here on this Tuesday, September 9th, that Josh Giddy has reached agreement with the Bulls on a 4-year $100 million deal to stay with the organization. So, of the big four restricted free agents that we’ve been talking about, of course, including Philadelphia’s very own Quinton Grimes, Getty now locked up, of course, Cam Thomas last week took the qualifying offer, one-year 6 million. So, that leaves Grimes and Jonathan Kaminga as the two big restricted free agents that still have yet to sign deals with their team. So, how does this impact Quinton Grimes? We’ll get to that here in just a moment. But guys, be sure to lock us in and hit that sub button because when and if I guess at this point Grimes does sign and anytime the Sixers make any kind of move, we are here for you guys. We will always make a video and you will always be in the know. But only if you hit that sub button and you turn on your notifications. Join the 23,699 people that are subbed here at the channel. Lock us in. I really do appreciate it. So, we’re talking about Josh Giddy, talking about these restricted free agents. How does Giddy’s contract impact Quinton Grimes and his negotiations with Philadelphia? I’ll tell you what, I think this is bad news for the Sixers, for Sixers fans, and for this organization because of the size of this deal and what this could mean now for what Grimes and his team might look to demand from Philadelphia, even if they’re not really in a spot to be demanding all that much. Let’s talk about Giddy here for just a second because, you know, he’s coming off a decent season with the Bulls. Of course, he was traded away by Oklahoma City for Alex Caruso. And there’s a reason OKC then went on to win a title. Not solely because Josh Giddy left, but bringing in Caruso was a part of that. And Giddy had a much better end of the season than to start the year with the Bulls. Look, 14.6 points, eight rebounds, seven assists. Could do a little bit of everything, but not necessarily great in anyone area. our Bulls host Patrick Sema does think it’s a little bit of an overpay but still he got $25 million a year. So now if you’re Quinton Grimes, right, and you’re looking Cam Thomas, okay, he took the qualifying offer, only $6 million for him. That that’s okay. But now you’re looking at Giddy, right? And a player who Look, if I’m Grimes, I don’t think Giddy is all that much better than the player I am right now. Why wouldn’t Gideon and his team at least try to ask for maybe not 25 million but somewhere closer to that range? I think it’s going to be hard now for the Sixers to convince Grimes to take a deal that’s 15 million or less. I really feel like we were tracking towards over the last couple of weeks somewhere in that 12 up to$15 million range. Now I don’t know if Grimes and his team are going to be willing to take that. So that leaves the Sixers with two options at this point. If that is true, they either pay up to whatever Grimes is asking for, possibly closer to $20 million per season, or they let Grimes take that qualifying offer, one year, $8.7 million, and he becomes an unrestricted free agent the following season. Two options that I don’t think are ideal for Philadelphia, but it’s also a risk for Quinton Grimes, and we’ll get to that as well here in just a moment. I didn’t think it made a whole lot of sense previously to this giddy news for Grimes to take the qualifying offer because when you take that qualifying offer, right, it’s sort of a bet on myself one-year type of deal. He’s not making as much money as he could if he signed a threeyear $45 million deal with the Sixers. And if you’re going to bet on yourself, it’s not a great situation for Grimes to do that because he’s not going to put up the same number as he did at the end of last year with the Sixers because Maxi back healthy, McCain back healthy, you drafted VJ Edgecom. So, he’s not going to have the ball in his hands as much as he did at the end of last year. Is his value really ever going to be higher than it is right now? So, I didn’t think it made a lot of sense for him to take that qualifying offer. But now if his demands are not met, he could kind of use that and say, “Look, I’m gonna be asking for something closer to $20 million, which I don’t think is ridiculous because again, Giddy got 25. I don’t think he’s that much better of a player, if he even is a better player at all than Quinton Grimes. So look, if he does ask closer to 20 million, Sixers don’t want to go there, he could then say, you know what, I will take the qualifying offer because maybe the market is better than what I initially thought it could be, especially next off season.” And this is why Cam Thomas took the qualifying offer because there are more teams next off season that have cap space than teams this offseason which there weren’t really a whole lot. So given all this, we know what Giddy got, we know what Cam Thomas got. What would you give to Quinton Grimes? If you were Daryl my offer in these deals, how much money would you offer Grimes on a peryear basis? Let me know down in the comments section. Now, coming up next, don’t go anywhere because this is another big implication of this giddy deal and potentially increase money for Grimes. So, we have to talk about could this mean that Kelly Ubé is more likely to be traded than we had previously thought. Going to get to that here in just a minute. But first, look, I know a lot of you guys are big Allen Iverson fans. I’m a big Allen Iverson fan, but look, I wasn’t really alive in the prime days of those AI early 2000s eras. I was born in 2001, all right? So, I didn’t get to really experience all the prime AI moments, but I know a lot of you did. And this jersey right here, saw this item. I was like, dude, even I got to hop on board and get this item because AI is a Sixers legend. And there is an insane deal on this Allen Iverson jersey. Originally priced at 155. That’s a bit steep, but it is now on sale for just $69. That is nice. And that is a tremendous deal. You can see all the details on this jersey. Obviously got the Sixers number three for AI, but lot of intricate Philly oriented details woven in throughout the jersey. It’s super dope. It’s super clean and it is the best deal you’re going to find on it. If you go to chatsports.comj sale, again, chatsports.comjsale, I’ll put that link in the comments and description of today’s show. Go over there, get the jersey on sale before it is too late. Let’s get back to Kelly Ubé. Could this new news with Grimes with Giddy mean that UB is even more likely to be traded now before the start of the season? If you did not hear, we talked about this on yesterday’s show. There’s been some rumors heating up that Kelly Ubé, Andre Drummond could be traded before the season starts. Jake Fisher, NBA insider, previously with the Yahoo Sports, now does some work with Bleacher Report, had this to say. There’s been some buzz all summer long about the Sixers looking to potentially move one of, if not both, Andre Drummond and Kelly Ubé. If they are able to find a deal for one of those two guys, that would open up some more wiggle room for Philly to pay Grimes a little bit more. So, we already kind of got these rumors and indications that potentially UB and Drummond as well could be moved to open up money to pay Quinton Grimes. And that was before we knew how much money Josh Giddy got. As it stands right now, the Sixers are $11 million under the first apron. They want to stay under that apron so that they have flexibility moving into the season with their roster. And if you look at the contract values of Ubé, of Drummond, what each of them make Drummond 5 million. So if you trade him, get nothing in return, you’re at about $16 million under the first apron. Is that enough now given the giddy contract to go out and sign Quinton Grimes? If not, man, you might have to pay or excuse me, trade Kelly Ubé for almost nothing for a salary dump, which previously I was very, very much against. I think it would be a bad idea to move off of UB in that instance. So given the financial situation Philadelphia is now in again trying to stay under that first apron, if $16 million doesn’t get it done and the Sixers feel pressured to pay Quinton Grimes, there’s a chance they could end up trading Kelly Ubé to open up that money and trading him for basically nothing because they want to take less money back to open up close to 18 to$20 million to potentially give to Quinton Grimes. I’ll say this though and I I would tell this to Daryl my s front office. Don’t give in. Do not fold to these potential demands by Quinton Grimes if he is asking for somewhere near $20 million. Cuz at this point, like if he wants to take the chance and if he wants to bet on himself and take that qualifying offer, let him. I don’t think he’s going to have an opportunity this year to up his value more than it is right now. And honestly, if he does try to hit you with that, I think it’s more of a bluff than anything to try to get more money. I think anything from 12 to$15 million is perfectly fair. You can get there by trading away on Dre Drummond, signing Grimes, still being under the first apron. There was no need to trade a talented player, limited in some aspects, yes, but a still talented player like Kelly Ubé just to try to free up some more money to sign Grimes when I don’t think that is how much money he’s worth. I don’t think he’s in a position to demand that much money. So, I would tell this organization to not give in if Grimes is trying to hold out for that bigger payday. Do not trade a talented player for no reason. But if you did have to decide between one of these two players, if you had to tread away UB to keep Grimes or if you have to let Grimes walk to keep UB on the squad, what would you guys do? I know I man this is a tough one. I think I’d probably just keep killing Ubé because I’m not giving in to what Grimes is trying to sell me. But you let me know. Type QG for Grimes, KO for UB. Hopefully it never gets to this point. [Music]

That’s crazy the Bulls stink
KO
If he wants to walk let him. Daryl put the sixers in a bad situation by making bad deals. Now I know that everyone likes Grimes but if the numbers don’t fit then the sixers should let him walk. There’s always someone else out there.
KO
KO – we got plenty of guard depth already
KO. If they trade Oubre just to give Grimes more money, I’m out on Grimes. Done. Not our fault Morey can’t manage the purse strings thanks to bad contracts.
Let him walk the Sixers already in bad contract situation with Embiid and George
Let Grimes go. VJ makes him an afterthought.
Caruso was more than a part. The Thunder would have been a lottery team without him. He is better than MJ, LeBron, Wilt and Kobe, combined. The most lopsided trade in history of all trades, not just NBA, but all trades including stock, bond and real estate markets. Caruso is a multi-billion dollar player and Giddey is a $2 player (and he should be thankful to get paid at all).
is it possible to do a sign and trade with the Warriors? Grimes for Kuminga? We already have a million guards, I really don't want another one. Kuminga could be the athletic PF this team has never had, and Grimes would fit with the Warriors perfectly.
Bro stop #TheNonse #Oubre ain't going nowhere. He is on a very friendly Contract. He's upside is worth double his Salary. We need him 2 improve on his #3's I'll say that much.
Overpaid, this is why mid level teams remain mid level
Keeping Kelly
