Philadelphia Phillies fan on viral incident vs. Marlins: “I just decided to make it end”

OF THIS HAPPENED. >> Siafa: NOW WHO THAT WOMAN IS, INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER LIZ CRAWFORD HAS BEEN ONE OF THE PEOPLE ON THE HUNT TRYING TO TRACK HER DOWN, AND I BELIEVE FEW NAMES HAVE BEEN FLOATING AROUND, RIGHT? >> Reporter: PEOPLE HAVE REALLY COME TO COUNT ON THE INTERNET FOR ALL OF THE DETECTIVES OUT THERE TO EXPOSE PEOPLE IN SITUATIONS LIKE THIS. BUT, SO FAR THE SOCIAL MEDIA SALUTES ARE GETTING IT WRONG. WE’RE STILL WORKING TO FIGURE OUT WHO THIS WOMAN IS. AND WE WANT TO HEAR HER SIDE OF THE STORY, WE REACHED OUT TO CBS MIAMI, HAVEN’T HAD ANY LUCK TRACKING HER DOWN, THE MARLINS AND PHILLIES, NO WORD BACK YET. EARLIER TODAY THE FAMILY SHE TOOK THE BALL FROM TALKED TO CBS NEWS. >> SHE JUST KEPT YELLING AND YELLING AND YELLING. YOU KNOW, I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO TURN MY BACK OR PUSHED HER AWAY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, BUT, YOU KNOW, THERE ARE A LOT OF EYES ON ME. SO I JUST DECIDED TO MAKE IT END AND GIVE HER THE BALL, AND BE HAPPY THAT SHE GOES AWAY, AND GET IT OVER WITH. >> NOW THE SPECULATION OVER THE WOMAN’S IDENTITY GOT SO BAD THAT OVER THE WEEKENDS A SOUTH JERSEY SCHOOL DISTRICT RELEASED A STATEMENT TO SEPTEMBER THE RECORD STRAIGHT, HAMMONTON PUBLIC SCHOOL SAID THE WOMAN IDENTIFIED ON SOCIAL MEDIA, AS PHILLIES KAREN, IS NOT AND HAS NEVER BEEN AN EMPLOYEE OF HAMMONTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS. AND HAVING LITTLE FUN HERE, THE STATEMENT ENDED WITH ANYONE WHO WORKS FOR OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT ATTENDED AS STUDENT OR LIVES IN OUR COMMUNITY WOULD OBVIOUSLY HAVE CAUGHT THE BALL BEAR HANDED IN THE FIRST PLACE. NOW, AT LEAST TWO OTHER POSTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA SAY THEY’RE NOT THE WOMAN FROM THE VIRAL CLIP. ONE SAID: OKAY, EVERYONE, I’M NOT THE CRAZY PHIL I MOM. BUT I SURE WOULD LOVE TO BE AS THIN AS SHE IS AND MOVE AS FAST AND I’M RED SOX FAN. AND ANOTHER SAID: SOMEHOW I GOT NAMED AS THE BALL GRABBER IN ONE OF THE MANY POSTS FROM THE PHILLIES-MARLINS GAME LAST NIGHT. THE POST GOES ON TO SAY: I’M NOT THE AWFUL KAREN THAT DID THAT. SO RUMORS WHO SHE; WHERE SHE WORKS, WHERE SHE LEVELS, ALL OF IT CONTINUES TO SWIRL ON THE INTERNET. ON? OF WHICH HAS BEEN VERIFIED AS OF NOW. FAMILY BY THE WAY SAYS THEY’RE GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF THE SUPPORT THE PHILLIES TOOK CARE OF THEM, THEY GOT TO TO MEET HAIRS ON BADER, HE SIGNED A BAT FOR THEM. ALL ENDED OKAY, PROBABLY BETTER THAN OKAY FOR THAT FAMILY. BUT THE INTERNET IS NOT DONE WITH THAT. >> AND NOVEMBER IS. >> Siafa: WE DON’T KNOW HER NAME AS KAREN. >> Natasha: RIGHT.

The woman in the video who demanded the ball from the Phillies fan at the game vs. the Marlins has yet to be identified. Here’s what we know so far.

  1. That Dad reminds me of a guy at a Megadeth concert. She did it, she deserves the scorn. I went to see Megadeth in 2005 and Mustaine flicked a pic at me. I jumped up to catched it, It fell out of my hand and hit the floor. I was so disappointed until a guy next to me tapped me on the shoulder saying "I think this belongs to you" and gave it to me. I wish I could have hugged him. I was in my early 20's. Though, Metalheads are more honest than sports fans. If that guy sees this…Thank You!

  2. The man and his family were seated no where near where the ball landed. The man knew with his height, his longer arms, with plenty of athletic ability in scrambles, he would most likely defeat the others and get the ball. So he arrogantly decided to do so. He's no gentleman.

  3. The whole thing is scary… the whole thing. Nationwide condemnation for a moment of bad behavior. The condemnation likely includes ugly, potentially dangerous acts of retribution. Do we want that world?

  4. I'm so sick of the attacks on Philly Karen. I'm starting to think she may be in the right. I know the rule on foul balls, but you can't really see when he grabs the ball, and I think she had a partial grip on the ball and he took it from her. His actions make me feel that way, the way he ran over and hid behind his kid, while hugging him like he was afraid of the dark, and the way he gave the ball to her so quickly, makes me think he knew he was in the wrong, and then in an interview, he said he didn't want any confrontation, and that's why he "gave the ball back to her". His words, not mine. You can even see in this interview that his kids are ashamed of him.
