[Jesse Rogers] Anthony Rizzo is retiring as a Cub and will be honored this Saturday at Wrigley Field. He’ll also become an ambassador for the organization. The defacto captain of the 2016 World Series team has returned.

  1. Wow. was just saying last night that it was sad he sort of just went unsigned in a thread about him being at the Yankees game.

  2. Hell yeah. Welcome back Rizz.

Also, the MS Paint cropped gold glove photo in the upper right corner is cracking me up

  3. I know this isn’t what this is about, but is #44 worthy of being retired? He isn’t the best Cubs 1B of all time, but he was the captain of the greatest team in most of our lifetimes. My heart says absolutely, but my head says just put him in the team’s HOF and celebrate him every time we celebrate 2016.

  4. Rizzo’s been watching with the rest of us, saw this awful offensive play and thought…”this team and fanbase needs a damn spark, I’ll take care of it!” In all seriousness, thank you for everything AR!

  5. Bringing my dad to the game this Saturday and couldn’t be anymore grateful to get this treat 🙏

  6. Should have just brought him back for 1 more game. Playoff spot is locked up and he’s not worse than Carlos Santana

  7. Immediately grabbed tickets for Saturday. I’ve always hoped he’d retire as a Cub, so glad that dream will come true.

  8. Whacky timing that in r/baseball showed Rizzo at a Yankees game and the thread was all about how he hates the Cubs office lol

  9. Welcome home Rizzo , we missed you.

Dude is my favorite ball player of all time , period. Not only for the work he put in with the legendary 16 Cubs but the guy is a class fucking act off the field.

I have a mountain of respect for him, refusing to take a chump contract just to play ball and to protect the negotiating power of older players who come after him.

Rizzo is the kind of player the sport of baseball is missing more and more these days. A white bread guy who can be a role model for kids and really put a shine on the game as a whole.

  10. Anthony is my absolute favorite kind of ball player – a entertainer on the field, a leader in the clubhouse, and one hell of a human being outside of baseball. I can’t tell you how much this news made an old man tear up this morning.

    “O captain! My captain!” 🫡

  11. Jed should apologize in front of the entire stadium for calling him greedy on the way out. Totally classless move by Jed that he never got the proper ire for. The man should have been run out of town for that.

Jed Hoyer. Truly one of history’s greatest monsters.

  12. I really thought he had more left in the tank. But I guess the concussion and injuries last year made teams not want to take a chance.

Cubs legend and Chicago legend now.

  13. Much respect to Rizzo, he and his foundation helped me immensely after I was diagnosed with brain cancer ♥️

  14. As an ambassador, Tony’s job will be going to bars, finding guys in White Sox jerseys and saying “Have you thought of maybe the Cubs? 🤷‍♀️😁”

  15. Does this mean that the Bryzzo Souvenir Company will reopen with limited operations?

  16. Still have fond memories taking my granddad to his last baseball game at Wrigley. Rizzo hitting his first homer with the club, it was nice.

Crazy seeing all come full circle like this, but I guess everything that has a beginning has an end.
