I would rather sign Grimes to $12M a year and have him prove that last May wasn't a fluke. Maybe trade Drummond for cap space and sign Precious Achiuwa or Charles Bassey.

  1. I agree. I know all the true ballers here watched all the games and he suddenly changed into a superstar on a lottery team. I don’t think that’s predictive of anything, and I think teams keep letting him walk so they don’t get stuck holding the bag. Fortunately for him and them, we are the most prolific bagholders in the league.

  2. It’s driven me insane to see people fall in love with this guy.  He had to prove it.  He hasn’t yet.  Don’t pay him.

  3. There is pretty much no cap difference in him signing for $12 or $20 mil since the Sixers are over the first apron and can only spend to re-sign Grimes. No one else can get this money whether it is $12 or $20. You’re signing Grimes not only because he’s good but because he would be a valuable trade piece at his salary. Letting Grimes walk wouldn’t open up any cap space and giving him $20 mil would potentially allow you to trading for a different $20 player later.

  4. McCain and Maxey can’t play together so at most you’ll have 3 starting level guards. The only flexibility this team has to bring in a starting level wing would be to sign and eventually trade Grimes. If Grimes was content with 12 million a year he would’ve signed two months ago. It’s either sign him to a long term deal in the upper teens or have him take the qualifying offer which basically guarantees him leaving in FA next year.

Blame Morey for this, if PG wasn’t on a max it would’ve been much easier to make space for Grimes. This is why wining “on the margins” doesn’t mean shit if you screw up the big moves.

  5. I would love to be able to leverage Grimes somehow for a decent front court man. I would say our front court is thin, but that would imply existence of a frontcourt. You know itʻs just gonna be Bona out there and Jod knows who else

  6. Looking into the future, They’ll never be a great team with Maxey/McCain/VJ on max or near max deals, so one of them has gotta go probably by 2027. Handing Grimes 4/$80 or more will exasperate that issue, but paying him now has no negative effects on the team, so they should sign him. Grimes is a great trade chip at something around 4/$60-$70, so hopefully, that’s where they land.
