Seattle Seahawks News: Emmanwori, Woolen, Knight, and some 2026 draft pick updates

All right, everybody. Good afternoon. Hope you guys are doing well today. We got some updates from Mike McDonald in the last 15 20 minutes or so. Thought I’d go ahead and go over it real quick. It’s not a lot, but some of the things he said are pretty interesting. Also, we got some uh news about the upcoming 2026 NFL draft regarding the Seahawks. So, I thought I’d go ahead and quickly go over this. I got to get out of here. I got some things to do today. But real quick, I wanted to put together a video with some of this information. So, McDonald had a press conference in the last 15 20 minutes or so. First, uh the the guy that everyone’s really paying attention to right now, Nick Emmenary, we already know high ankle sprain. We already know he’s going to miss some time, but we didn’t have a lot of details beyond that. Um, it has now been two days since we learned about Em and Wory’s high ankle sprain and it was expected that a decision would be made on whether or not he’d be put on IR by now. But McDonald is now saying that they’re going to wait. So, he’s probably not going to get put on IR today. That doesn’t mean he’s not going to get put on IR. They want to see how the ankle is responding and they’ll make a decision later this week because there’s no reason to not take your time with a decision like this. And uh I don’t really have too much to say about it other than that they um I I mean I hope that he doesn’t go on IR for obvious reasons, but at the same time I don’t see how he doesn’t. when you take a look at the injury that he had, it would be pretty surprising if he they think that he could come back at something close to 100% within within a month to be perfectly honest. So, I’m not super enthused about what’s probably going to happen here, but they’re they’re still they’re still not sure. And I guess that’s better than just putting him on IR now. But uh yeah, if if we don’t get an update from Em and Wary by the end of the day, don’t necessarily think we’re in the clear. That’s not necessarily the case. Uh there is going to be an injury report later today, but it’s going to be short because we don’t have that many injured players. Obviously, the Nosu stuff is very compelling. Obviously, uh, Dariq Young and and and, um, Jake Bobo, we want to know what’s going on there, but other than that, we don’t really have a ton of injured players right now. So, I’m not expecting a ton of information there. It’s more interesting on the Steelers side than our side. All right, so Nick Mori still up in the air. And the main other thing that people took away from this press conference, and this is definitely compelling, McDonald was asked about Reek Woolen. They asked him, “Is Reek Woolen going to start this week?” And he was very non-committal. He said, “We’ll see.” That’s um I mean, that could just be the Bellich thing where you don’t give away any information. You don’t have to, but that sounds pretty negative. I mean, Reek Willen has been starting for this team for a few years now. Reek Willen has been the starting corner on this team pretty consistently his whole career. So that should be a given unless something is up. Like it it’s like asking if Sam Darnold is going to start this week. Like if Mike McDonald was asked, “Is Sam Darnold going to start this week?” I think he’d laugh and say, “Yeah, of course.” And then he’d move on because it’s an a really silly question. But Reek Woolen, we’ll see. So it sounds like he’s as frustrated with Reek Woolen as a lot of us are. He did say Woolen has responded well, but he did also say we had a similar conversation last year and clearly things haven’t gotten that much better. Now, I still suspect that the Seahawks are kind of saddled with having Woolen play because of the Emmenary situation, but there are a couple different ways. There are a couple of different ways to maybe push him out for at least a little while. You could roll with Darion Kendrick in the slot. You could say Shaq Griffin, you’re starting on the outside now. Obviously, Job is going to be asked to do a lot more because of the Emmon War injury. That’s kind of the trickle down. But if you want to do something with Woolen as well, your options are not great. You have Nehemiah Pritchette as well, who I like, but I I I don’t know if that’s the card you want to play right now. So I uh I don’t know. And Nemhauser here, he tweeted about this press conference about 15 minutes ago. He thinks that based on McDonald’s tone and comments in this press conference, there’s a pretty good chance that Reek Woolen will lose his starting job to Josh Job. Again, I wouldn’t be surprised if Job and Reek both play on nickel snaps. So, it’s not an eitheror situation, but still it it is it does sound like a pretty condemning statement. And also, this is also going to be interesting to some people. Drake Thomas, according to McDonald’s’s tone and comments, it sounds like could be in play to take Tyrese Knights play uh snaps. Uh, it sure sounds like Drake Thomas and Josh Job will be getting more snaps and possibly starting spots this week over Knight and Woolen based on McDonald’s tone and comments. Now, in the case of Tyrese Knight, I think it might be because he’s not 100% yet and they learned that the hard way on Sunday and they’re trying to mitigate that going forward, but that’s uh I mean that’s a setback. Drake Thomas, I like Drake Thomas, but I don’t I don’t think that he’s a starter in this league. I think that Tyrese Knight showed much more last year than Drake Thomas ever has. So that’s uh that’s a setback. That’s a setback that I don’t really want this team to be trying to survive. So I’m hoping that Knight can actually he wasn’t on the injury report last week, right? So it’s not like we’re waiting for him to recover from some bum ankle and he was dragging it around out there on Sunday. But something else is going on here. And I I hope it doesn’t come to Drake Thomas. While I do like him as a backup, I don’t want him as a starter. But definitely something worth monitoring on Sunday. Uh finally, real quick, a little bit off topic here, but Over the Cap released the 2026 compensatory picks projection. And as of right now, and by the way, I don’t see how this really changes, but it is possible that this is not the final tally, but for whatever it’s worth, based on the way things are going in the world of compensatory picks and how those are calculated, doesn’t look like the Seahawks are going to get any this season. So, don’t expect any team I mean, don’t expect the Seahawks to get any extra picks. uh they didn’t lose any coaches to head coaching jobs. The free agents that signed with other teams didn’t sign particularly huge deals and they’re not getting particularly significant snaps. And off the top of my head, I can’t really think of players that are going to change that equation. So, do not expect bonus picks to come bail us out. That is very unlikely to happen.
