Lamar Jackson, DeAndre Hopkins’ Wired Week 1 in Buffalo: It’s a Journey | Baltimore Ravens

Why is it so tough? Why is the season so long? You know, it’s a journey. It’s a long, hard journey. We’re kind of getting started. It didn’t matter who we play, we’re ready to line up and go play. Pressure is a privilege, and I’m excited for us to have that privilege. At some point in time, it’s time to go find out where you stand. We’re ready to run. You know, we’ve been sitting on G waiting. No ho. Hey, get it, man. All we got is all we need right here in this huddle, man. From the first snap to the last snap. Little service ain’t worth a damn when you get on this grid off. What you willing to lay on the line? Ask yourself that. What you willing to lay on the line? He’s got a touchdown. Life is short, but the season is long. We have a bunch of guys who are the definition of pros. It won’t be great. This starts with us. It ends with us, though. Every play is out. Everything goes. He’s got room. He’s 1510. The king is in. Oh, Derek Henry’s on a roll. We can’t blame anyone. We can’t make any excuses. We want a Super Bowl. We have to do something. We’re going to go out and do something this year. [Music] Sometimes I’ve given you guys the analogy of of going cross country. It’s like this journey and we’ve talked about before why is it so tough? Why is the season so long? You know, it’s a journey. It’s a long hard journey. We’re kind of getting started. We’re all excited about it. We’re all fired up to to get ready to go. It’s like revving a car up. You know what I’m saying? You’re getting the engine going, but it’s not takeoff time yet. You know what I mean? So, you just have to be patient and just stay revving. Stay stay practicing. Stay sharp. Get ready to play. It’s the start of a new journey. It starts with this game. It starts now. It’s very important to start off fast. Start off fast and finish and strong. That’s what we’re all about. Starting past the season off fast. We got to get off to a hot start this year. We really have no excuses to not go out there and do what we need to do. So, it’s on us at the end of the day. And pressure is a privilege and I’m excited for us to have that privilege. I know the backs of me says not running back room. Blame no one, make no excuses, do something. That’s who I am. That’s what I believe in. Okay, those three things. That’s how I live my life. I don’t make this complicated for me. I believe in those three things. Make no excuses, blame no one. Do something. That’s been my saying. Um I use it with everything. If you want something done, you got to do something to get it done. So that’s been my motto. Do something. I was down in uh South Florida where these cars are known for for down there. I was close to the beach. I said I can get me a drop top and ride on the beach, you know. So that’s when it started. That’s kind of like, you know, the thing that we do in Florida, have old schools, get them custom and put wheels on them. I wasn’t necessarily a car guy, but I um always wanted one. And as we started going through it, seeing all the work they put in is pretty impressive. I wanted something classy, you know, not over the top or anything, kind of mellow. And when I tried to get this car, I wanted something that was kind of already together and and unfortunately um had to do it all. We took it all off um everything and and built it back up. I think as we were building the car, it was developing to become what it is now. and um and sharp. You want it nice and sharp. And the same thing with our players, you want to develop them. You want them to be sharp in their assignment and and the way they play. It’s like one of those first impressions thing, you know, and you want to go out and make a good first impression. You come out, you want to look good. You look good, you play good. So, always making sure uh the car is clean and looking good, you know, and the engine and everything is running the way that it’s supposed to and we’re in the wait room and working out getting ready for the season and the meeting room learning and understanding exactly what to do. Uh when when you can do those two things going out on the football field and playing in front of people is pretty easy. So, uh making sure um daily we’re we’re doing those things. Sunday night, they return to once again face the Buffalo Bills to come out of the gate to go back to the scene of the crime. Absolute cinema uh unfolding for the entire nation. Whatever our opponent was, whe was a Buffalo or we were playing the Canada Juggernauts and it didn’t matter who we played, we were ready to line up and and go play. All we got to do is go play good, solid, fundamental, on-point football just the way we’ve been practicing. Everybody agree. We’re ready. Let’s go in there with confidence. Let’s go in there with the confidence that you have earned. You’re ready to walk in there with I’m not just talking about the first game. I’m talking about all season. The seeds have been planted. Now, let’s make them grow. [Music] We’re ready to run. You know, we’ve been sitting on G waiting on O. My guys are fired up. um about the game. We’ve had a great off season. Our entire team is focused. They’re locked in on on what needs to to get accomplished and and uh we’re going to continue to work towards that daily. Our guys love football, you know, they they love everything about football and they are very determined. They want to do things right. I think we have a bunch of guys who are the definition of pros and want to be great. We have the best head coach in the league. Uh we have the best players in the NFL. We got the best assistant coaches. We got the best coordinators. We got the best administrative staff. and I firm believe in it till the day I die. Uh with this football team this year, we we can’t blame anyone. We can’t make any excuses. If we want a Super Bowl, we have to do something. We go out and do something this year. Players are on the field, fans are in the stands, and we are set for 2025 to get underway. Let’s get it, man. Let’s get it, man. 73 Buffalo in front of the Ravens from Western New York. Give it to Derrick Henry right side. Breaks through a couple of tackles. Cross the 20 out to the 25. He’ll get 11 yds and a Ravens first down right out of the gate. Fakes the hand up to Henry. Drops the throw under pressure. Fires over the middle. He’s got a man wide open. St. Flowers spins down at the 46 yd line. When Lamar Jackson pulls the ball right now, everybody’s going to the running backs. So, he is wide open. He’s hitting the edges. And that’s the danger of Lamar Jackson having the football in open space. That’s Hey, do you Make it simple. Put it in his hand. Make it simple. Toss to Derrick Henry. Right side. Cuts it inside the numbers. He’s got moves. Cole Bishop got run over by Derek Henry. He’s got room. He’s in the 15. The King is in. Touchdown Ravens. And the Ravens have their first lead of the season. hit. [Applause] I mean, how do you tackle a guy 6’3, 245 lbs with a 10 yd head start judging from that play? I would say poorly. Zire Mitchell Payeyton with a key block on that rod. Hey, boy. I’m the pilot. Who hit 43? [Music] Well, the Ravens have now seen the crowd quiet down. The momentum shift in their favor. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. And now the Ravens offense comes back on the field trying to build the momentum and extend the lead. Jackson hands it to Henry, darts to the right side, picks through a crowd, powers his way, crosses midfield. He’s to the 40. The Kings in to the 30. Oh, Dererick Henry’s on a roll. A 49 yd run. And Derek Henry is already over a 100 yardds for the night. Cuts inside the numbers left side. He’s in. Touchdown Lamar. And the Ravens in the end zone on backto back drives. [Applause] The zone read just puts defenses in a dilemma. [Applause] That’s Raven Ball. That what you call Raven Ball right there. You see me? They either going to have trouble stopping Ellie Dham or stopping me and you. They can’t stop. They can’t They got to choose. Let me go ahead and grab the little my little cool helmet. Have a chance to turn this opening drive into another scoring drive to start the third quarter. A 40 yd gain. There’s nobody close to Z Flowers. Lamar throws outside the numbers. Does Zay Flowers get the block to the 40 to 10? Touchdown Z Flowers. And the Ravens open the second half with a 65 yd touchdown drive. I’m here. Hey, I’m here this time. Come on. Juiced up. Juiced up. I’m here this time. Juiced up. Ronnie Stanley, Justin Bouard, Christian Benford. Hey, I’m here this time. Yeah. Now looking for another drive to open this lead up. Six catches, 134 yds for Z Flowers. Pressure Lamar near side looking for the end zone. He’s got He’s got touchdown. DeAndre Hopkins. His first catch as a Raven. It’s a onehand beauty. Oh, what a grab for Dehop. Did you see that? That is a fantastic catch. That boy like that. I ain’t even had to look at it. What they talking about? I ain’t even had to look at it. Huh? Nobody talk about, man. Wash me up. I’m watch right. In a game between two top tier teams. No shot at you escaping for a restful night’s sleep here of this season opening Sunday night. It looks like it might be a back and forth second half in Buffalo. drops the throw under pressure. Scrambling back to the 15. He’s hit. Steps out of the sack. Tucks the ball. He’ll run it. He’s got the first down of the 45. Crosses midfield. You can’t coach that. You can’t teach that. You can’t stop that. Give it to Henry running. The big hole. Henry to the 30. Henry to the 20. The King to the 10. Touchdown Derek Henry. [Applause] Tyler Luke for the extra point try his kick. No good. Obviously, we wanted this one. We uh felt like we should have won this one, but on to the next week. Left side. Nothing. There he fumbles the ball. A loose ball. Told him like let that let that go. You know, man, he done did enough for you. Unfortunately, it just happened at the wrong time, but not going to knock him for that. Right now, the missed Tyler Loop extra point is looming. The fumble by Derek Henry is looming. Third and goal from an inch away. He leaps and breaks the goal line. Touchdown Buffalo. Very disappointing. We’re just going to have to regroup and get ready to go play a long season. We got 16 games in front of us. Obviously, we did many good things, but we didn’t play well at the end. And on the final play of the game, the Buffalo Bills have defeated the Ravens 41-4 following a gut-wrenching fourth quarter collapse by the Ravens. Probably let it leave tonight and then forget about it cuz we have to get rid get prepared for the bounds of divisional rival. It’s up to us to go go back and fix that and I know we have the people in the room in the building to do it. It’s just a matter of getting it done honestly. New week next week, we’ll get it fixed and try to be blunt. We’ll go back to work like we always do. You know, been here before. This is how the NFL works. It’s it’s a tough league. You know, you play tough games and tough environments and hopefully you learn from it and keep getting better. You’re not going to be perfect. You know, like I said, beginning of the season, we had a lot this season to go. You don’t [Music] [Music]

Step behind the scenes for the Ravens’ Week 1 preparation for the Buffalo Bills and on the field for an offensive shootout.

  1. The „Best Coach in the League“ should start holding himself accountable and be able to question his own decisions (at least in hindsight). Apart from that I love my Ravens whatever comes, enjoyed week 1, enjoy every Ravens Wired, that won‘t change

  2. Quick ego check is always good. Now we know we ain't special and that it isn't going to be free. Bubble getting popped made the room smell like disappointment, gotta clean up now which is an act toward progress.

  3. The Ravens have one of their most talented defensive rosters in years, but their current approach doesn’t fully leverage that athleticism. Against Buffalo, they repeatedly showed heavy blitz looks, only to drop linemen into coverage — a tactic that neutralized their front-seven advantage. With high-level playmakers at every level of the defense, Baltimore would benefit more from pressure packages and aggressive calls that force elite offenses to react, rather than sitting back and disguising

  4. Lamar one of the most focused players I’ve seen. Dude just about his business, the next game, being the best version of himself for the team. We’re lucky as ravens fans he’s in Baltimore.

  5. as a raven fan, I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life what is so hard of just keep giving the ball to the king what’s so hard about doing more play action bills l had no answer for play action

  6. I'm still in disbelief that the ravens scored 40 and lost. The defense ought to be ashamed of themselves. All bunch of All pros, 1st round picks, big names and offseason hype for nothing. They're literally the worst defense in football.
