Luis Castillo could be available this offseason via trade to give Seattle more financial flexibility to improve their roster elsewhere.
Susan Slusser mentioned him as a trade target for the Giants along with Sonny Gray. Castillo has 2 years left of his contract with a vesting option for 2028. His underlying numbers are declining and he still has a lot of money owed to him, so the compensation wouldn't be too outrageous.
Castillo was originally in the Giants organization before he was traded to the Marlins before the 2015 season.

We do like former mariners pitchers, especially the ones that grunt!
Considering he’s been on a 1.9 war per 162 pace over the last 2 seasons and he’s making 25 mil a year I’d assume we would have to send very little to none in terms of prospect capital. Definitely wouldn’t mind as long as no relevant prospects are traded.
The only problem with this is that Luis Castillo is a pretty average pitcher now.
The Mariners are my AL team. If the Giants are willing to take on the salary and the Mariners actually use that to sign some guys they’ve rented since the trade deadline, I think it makes a lot of sense for both teams. That said, I’m not sure if Castillo is worth that salary any more, even without getting marginal prospects in return.
Did we draft Luis back in the or something? Hes a good pitcher.
Those prediction articles are always bullshit
I’m iffy on this one. Castillos been getting a little worse every year, and has not be good on the road this season.
It’s also only two years left, so maybe worth the gamble. Would still be a decent #3 or #4 at worst.
I wouldn’t hate this. Mariners probably want to move on from his contract, so it probably wouldn’t cost us much. Bonus if we can up the prospect haul a bit to have them cover some of the salary.
Hes declining quite a bit but ill still roll with a 33 year old vet who can eat innings and keep an ERA under 4.
Isn’t he linked to us every year?
