Reds vs. Padres Game Highlights (9/10/25) | MLB Highlights

Padres two games back of the Dodgers in the NL West standings and every inning feeling more important this September as they look to take the series against the Cincinnati Reds. If a Terry Francona team comes in with a chance and they play flat, I would be shocked you knew they were going to play until the calendar ran out on the mound making his 29th start of the season. A 13 5 record 2.85 run right hander, nick one man out fly ball, center field sending Jackson Merrill back to the wall as it a long way to center. But Merrill has Rome two down one of the tougher balls for a center fielder. That one hit right at. You swung on and popped up shallow left field back. It will be Lorean and he makes the catch and an easy breezy eight pitch. First inning for the Reds look to Lefty andrew Abbott. He is trying to get right tonight. Three pitch K makes quick work of Tatis fastball away fastball in and the final fastball tall and in the middle on the ground up the middle of the backhand goes. It took him a while to get the throw off and I don’t know if he was trying to plant, but he was off balance, didn’t get much on it and arise with the infield hit. So two down arise at first base and gavin sheets coming up and this balls popped into the air right behind. Short Ellie to the back edge of the grass or to the front edge of the grass, back edge of the dirt, he makes the catch and there’s one gone in the second inning will take strike three knew it takes with him the first of the night for fastball from, that’s just tough right there. Stewart swings and misses strike three. Pata gets a fastball past him and two strikeouts in a 123 2nd for Saint nick. Let’s come to bat in the third and Tyler Stevenson will get it started for the Red Lake. That is straight three sweeper did not quite sure what he was disagreeing with. That ball looked like it caught quite a bit of plates to center , gets down for a hit first red to reach one out base hit for the Reds third baseman and the Reds are still alive after what looked like an inning ending double play ball to the second baseman. If the Reds can make him pay Reds catch a huge break 1st and 3rd, 2 out Marte swings and misses with a fastball and four K’s in three shutout frames for Nick pave leadoff walk in a scoreless game. Bottom three struck him out and that’s three K’s for Abbott fernando Tatis Jr climbs in struck out on three pitches to lead off in the first, bringing single 1st and 2nd with one away in the Padres third innings bullet off the bat of got him looking. He has struck out 19 times on the year and he has struck out twice in two games against the Reds. A big pitch for a there. He didn’t get the call to strike three on cronenworth, but he gets it there that split the plate right in half right at the bottom of the strike zone. A couple of big strikeouts in the inning for Andrew Abbott. Now, two gone 1st and 2nd. Here’s Manny Machado on the ground to Ellie. He scoops fields has all day throws to Stewart in plenty of time to get Machado side retired. Cruz will get it going here. A scoreless ballgame top of the fourth inning, struck out fastball back up for the 94. That’s usually where he lives. That’s strikeout number five for Patta swing and a miss on a sweeper, three strikeouts in a row for six to all. And the Padres with their best opportunity of the night. Now, two on and nobody out for Jackson drop down. Stewart goes to third and they got a big time play by Stewart, not only to get to the ball quickly but to have the gumption to make that throw. That’s a bang bang play. I don’t care who you are at first base. He is still learning first base. He’s a natural third baseman with some time in seconds, the second out of the inning and had to be left up to Jake with two men aboard. Danger of squandering a nice opportunity. 1st and 2nd. No outs pitches popped up. Dacruz going out Hayes makes the stabbing grab Hayes slides underneath him. You think that guy can’t play anywhere on the field? After making that play, he can play center. He play short, he could play anywhere one out. Nobody on for Fernando Todd with a line drive single up the middle. His last time up that goes Hayes at the wall. It’s gone. His 21st home run of the year puts the Padres on top 1 to 0 and still relearning his famous hop step at third base, but he got on top of that heater tried to sneak the 94 power fastball up and in and talk about short stroke at somebody pull it. Padres up 1 21st of the season leadoff walk here in the top of the sixth inning first walk of the night in there for strike three. How do you do the curveball strikeout number seven for Charlie, a base hit for Austin Hayes has moved the line for the Reds here in the sixth inning Padres with a 1 to 0 lead but now Cincinnati two on and two out for Gavin Lux two muscled into shallow center field is back. He’s there from short and he makes the catch and no runs a hit the Reds lead two and we go to the bottom of the sixth Padres up 1 to 0 one gone here in the seventh inning. That is strike three gets him looking eighth strikeout for nick Patta two down. All those high fastballs set up the lane changer from Nick Pata just not expected to see the ball run back over the outside corner, drive deep left leaps at the says no time the league and brings it back. Candido. Number two looks over to fernando and says anything you can do, I can do better Floriano all the way up over the wall in left to take away a potential game tying homer from key Brian Hayes and get the better through 71 out single for and Andres gonna try and add on here. There’s a ground ball sharply hit right at underhand mclean one around the first time. Double play. Diaz hits into the inning to the shortstop. Hands it off to kyle Hart out of the pen. Matt mclean is the first out in the eighth inning back to the top. Now, here’s TJ Friedel left hander against left hander. Great Hart died spikes the ball on the ground. He’s been the best in the bigs at that this season. The tying run is on the ground left side to short mccoy will go to, they’re going to challenge it was close. The whole Reds dugout looking back for the answer, they will not challenge. So mccoy able to get Marte for out number two, Fried does get into scoring position two away and Adrian Morejon is going to be asked to try and collect the four outs here tonight as Mike Shield heads to the mound to make a pitching change. No time like the present for Ellie to break out of his power drought. He is due as Duke can be zero for three tonight, right side and is right to the Cruz deadlock the game. It’s one to tell you that is right on the money a great by Friedel to the third base dugout outside of home plate and he just did sneak his fingertips across the, that’s the first hit of the night between the two teams with a man in scoring position, a clutch rib eye from de La Cruz. Tatis has one of the excellent arms in the game. He was in pretty shallow right and Fried will beat him. De La Cruz goes pitch missed down throw down is De La Cruz steals. Second ran on a breaking ball. Now they’re just going to go ahead and put Hayes on. So he will be walked intentionally and with Gavin Lux due up next, you got to believe that that means Miguel and Duar will be the batter first pitch left field, Lorean that’s down base hit Laz scores dropped the ball, hes it in the goes to third on Duhart base hit off the pine hits 21 reds. You can’t make the play and the Reds haven’t hit a ball very hard all this whole inning, but they end up getting a couple of runs and they’ve got a 2 to 1 lead. It’s your hit on the ground to short backhanded by mccoy long to first is in time and the inning is over to the Reds and a couple of runs on guys on base. We said pregame that it was going to be a marquee pitching matchup between nick Pata and andrew Abbott. That’s no appeal needed strike three. It hasn’t been a huge strikeout game for Abbott. It’s only his fifth, but that’s part of what has allowed him to continue to be out there in the eighth inning and two men are gone in the eighth inning. This will probably be it for Abbott. He has spun an absolute gem tonight swing and a miss, he struck him out a changeup dipping right under Machado’s bat for strike three. Abbott has his sixth strike out of the game and the Reds take a 2 to 1 lead to the ninth in San Diego, Tony Santam seeking his sixth save of the year. She gets a base hit Hayes over to play and cheats headed for second base at their standing double starts. The bottom of the ninth. Like clockwork when you need an extra base hit gavin sheets seems to be the guy. So sheets with a double and Then Iglesias will pinch run for him. Padres have had opportunities like this. They haven’t cashed in on any of them. They’ll need to execute here to tie this ball game. Popped up. Stewart. The call right there. One down pop up. No advancement. Arguably the best single hitter on the series for the Padres Jackson Merrill in the air to center field on the edge to make the catch tagging. Moving to third is Iglesias tying 1 90 ft away but now with two down with a runner on third , Bryce Johnson will have an opportunity to tie this ballgame strikes him out on three. The Reds take the day and the series their first series win in San Diego in a half dozen years. The Reds are tied with the Giants. They are two back in the wild card. What an amazing comeback.
