Penguins will find themselves in tough spot if Sidney Crosby desires a trade

I don’t see him asking for a trade…but I do think if the organization wants to move him to get started on a tear down and rebuild, he would oblige.
Sidney Crosby you are a Montreal Canadien
I mean maybe they can get back to contender status before he retires but at least he has value on a trade rn. I don’t get him staying to finish out on a loser
I’m almost as excited for the season to start so people can stop passing off stupid rumors as journalism as I am to see hockey.
87 leaving makes absolutely no sense. just trying to poke some life into a boring off season
Trading him would be blasphemy like Kane in Red Wings and Brodeur in Blues
It doesn’t really seem like that tough of a spot to me. Yeah, they wouldnt be in a position to get a huge haul for him. But getting some assets and losing him for the 26-27 season when they still wont be competitive anyway isn’t any kind of setback to the rebuild they need to do.
If he never won, yeah, I could see him asking to leave for the chance. But that’s not the case. I think he’s a lifer.
He brought the team back from nearly becoming extinct. He’s won it all in the NHL already and should retire a Penguin and be/is an ambassador for the team
Pens ain’t making the playoffs this season and won’t be competitive before Sid retires. He’ll be dealt at some point this season in a deal that makes sense for the team, and for Sid. Pay attention to teams coming out of rebuilds that are entering their competitive window.
If he went to another team it would add more excitement to his life beyond what being a lifer can offer him.
He could hoist a cup and every time he visits Pittsburgh in another jersey there’d be huge cheers and celebration. For the last few years of his career he’d get to kind of have a mini retirement celebration every time he visits Pittsburgh and at the end of the day his jersey will still hang in the rafters with zero blemish because everyone knows that’s where his heart is.
It would just be more fun if he took another run at the cup, yanking it forcefully out of Florida’s hands.
Zero percent chance he asks for a trade after he just extended and committed to the rebuild at 38. Sure, maybe he changes his mind, but that would be very unlike him historically speaking.
I cannot see in any way this man wearing another sweater. He’s just too much a part of the team’s history at this point. It would be shocking to say the least.
It will be one less thing to deal with later on. And as the article says, they would trade for draft picks. This would actually be a good thing for Pittsburgh and Montreal, and Crosby.
It would have to be Colorado right
As a flyers fan I’ve always hated Sid but if he retires a Pen, I’ll nod in approval
Garbage. One of the greatest modern players and morons think his return will be minimal. Pittsburgh will do fine just engage multiple teams in any deal and you get all the value they need. Stupid rumors lazy reporting
I would like to see him complete his career with the pens. Dude has won pretty much every major trophy. He doesn’t need to prove anything.
Now, unless there is a falling out with management?
Players that play their entire career with one team speaks to the integrity of both the player and the management.
But ok, sometimes you just want to fulfil a dream.
Could be worse. Could be asking to go to the Leafs?
The question for Crosby’s career has always been two things: is he the ultimate team guy or the ultimate winner?
The only way both of those are possible together anymore is he gets traded for a rebuild because both aren’t happening atm. He’s too good and keeps them from completely rebuilding.
Trade him for a haul. Let him have another shot at the cup AND give the Pens a great shot at McKenna. Pens fans thinking otherwise are delusional
I don’t see him leaving Pittsburgh
They are in a good spot either way. Sid wanting a trade is easy. He will be easy to move, they will get assets. Any sane person will understand why he wants to move should he choose too. If he decides to stay, again people will understand as he has devoted his career to the team. Just slightly harder for Dubas as he doesn’t get those assets he would have out of a trade. He does however get Crosby and his leadership to help the next era of Pitts players. So really either way should be looked at as good option. No Pens fans lean towards the trade because we want more playoff Sid. Pens fans seem to prefer the idea of him retiring a Pen which makes sense.
As much as it would be fun to have him in MTL, I find ridiculous the people who think it is going to happen.
What we would be giving up for him would be way too much.
And he has not said he wants to move. It has to come from him. And I don’t see him moving. It’s not like Carey Price who had a trade that was basically only on paper. He still has 3-4 years of play in front of him.
The Penguins would be best served to let him and his agent dictate how they handle roster construction for the remainder of his career. That seems to be his big issue. The impact of trading him on the rebuild attempt are immaterial. It won’t speed anything up. Even if it did, it’s worth it for the Pens to struggle for 4 years instead of 3 if it means Sid finishes his career here.
Why is his agent sending mixed signals? “He wants to play in the playoffs” is effectively saying that he wants out because they both know Pittsburgh has no shot at making the playoffs. I predict that he’ll play this year out. Next summer or at the trade deadline in 2027, they’ll finally push for a trade.
Imagine Sid going to the Panthers as well!
Penguins have more cap space than the sharks right now.
Oof, I’m sure glad we’ve been drama free with our star!
This conversation has come up twice a year for the last 8 years, and nothing ever comes out of it.
I think Crosby is torn. I believe him that he wants to be a Penguin for his whole career. However, Crosby is highly competitive and wants to win. That’s not likely to happen in Pittsburgh during his remaining time there. If the Penguins go through another rough year, I can see Crosby be willing to move. If he does agree to go, it will only be to one or two teams like Colorado with his buddy MacKinnon
i think maybe dubas needed to shit or get off the pot 2 years ago and now he’s fucked because he denied reality for two years and sometimes not making a decision is the worst decision. he’s never done that somewhere else before, right? >_>
he could have asked for a lot for a 36 year old crosby and been well into a rebuild already by selling off 5-6 premium veterans but he put that off to lose anyways. now he has to face reality but trading crosby would also be admitting that he wasted all of this time…
