Diana Rousini is joining us. The athletic senior NFL insider is joining us and we are grateful for that on a Thursday. Uh so let’s let’s start with the Brock Pury situation with M. Jones. Now remember Shanahan liked M. Jones out of college and they went and got him in Jacksonville. So that’s not the issue. He likes this quarterback. But the Brock Pretty stuff and he’s been dinged up toes, elbows, shoulders. I I mean, yesterday it was, oh no, it’s going to be five weeks. Like where what are you hearing in terms of timeline in return? Yeah, there’s it’s definitely a form of turftoe. Apparently, there’s different definitions of it, but uh he’s expected to miss at least two games. I was not told that it would be up to five. Of course, it could always be. It’s all based on that recovery. Uh, but it was a bit of a surprise injury on Monday when that popped up. And I can tell you, you know, it’s interesting. You talk about uh insiders and chatter around the league. I talked to the Saints on Monday and they already knew about it. They were already prepping for M. Jones. So, word uh word was spreading around the league quickly. And then, of course, Kyle Shanahan came out and spoke to the media publicly and and you know, he’s always been very transparent about what’s going on with his team in terms of injuries. He’s probably the best at it in football. Um, but you know, he’s dealing with the shoulder, but the foot is, excuse me, the toe is the issue. Uh, so we’ll see. And and Colin, we’ve we’ve seen it before. We’ve seen quarterbacks get shot up before, uh, you know, before games. It It’s pain, but also, you got to look at the 49ers situation right now. George KD is on IR. Christian McCaffrey uh, was dealing obviously with a little bit of that calf situation last week. The injury bug is is swarming them again. And it’s only, you know, week two here. So, I think the fact that it’s so early in the season is is at least keeping them calm there. This isn’t ideal. Uh, you know, I I had someone in football asked me, you know, you’ve been around the Niners a lot. You’ve seen them in training camp. You know, what do they do different? It seems that injuries hit them all the time. And I I don’t I don’t have an answer. Like, I don’t know why it’s the 49ers, but lately it just seems like they’re the ones dealing with a lot of situations. A quarterback that just got paid a boatload of money. Yeah. Well, the Niners and the Ravens have had injuries over the last 5 years and they’re two of the most physical run games. So, maybe some of it’s that they have harder practices. And I I want to pivot to this though. There is something with with with the the Chargers, excuse me, if the Chiefs lose at home to the Eagles, they’re 0 and2. It’s not desperation time, but the numbers drop down to only 12% of 0 and2 teams make the playoffs. Okay. So, my take is AJ Brown one target in week one. Tyreek Hill in Miami I think is unsolvable and they have a wide receiver issue is I mean it seems to me Howie Roseman gets Tank Bsby uh a wide receiver before the season. They went and got Dodson last year when the AJ drama was heating up. I feel like Howie Roseman is creating depth in the offense by last year to today knowing he may have to move AJ Brown. So, AJ Brown, Tyreek Hill, and the Chiefs. Can I connect the dots at all there? It’s It’s a cute idea. I I don’t necessarily think it’s true, though. I know what you’re thinking. Right. So, Howie Moves with purpose. I think he’s proven that, right? Nine trades in 2025, right? He’s done that. And it’s every every afternoon I feel like we’re reporting something new. And he’s doing it with positions that I didn’t even know there was a need for um you know, in the latest trade that he made recently. Um, he’s never worried about winning the trade either. I think that’s important to state, right? Because I I’ve had a lot of conversations over the years with organizations who are obsessed with winning the headline the next day. And we both know how that works out. It doesn’t matter. Nobody cares. It’s are you able to get the player to immediately step in and make a difference and put your team in a position to win. Now, that being said, I know there were teams calling about AJ Brown during the offseason. Okay? So they the teams were told they’re not moving AJ. Okay. And it wasn’t like a hey, let’s keep talking. It was a no thanks. This is AJ Brown. He’s one of the top five wide receivers in football, top three. Uh we’re not moving him. I I have a hard time imagining Howie Roseman moving him. Tyreek Hill, different situation. Are they moving Tyreek Hill right now? Absolutely not. Tua needs him. Mike McDaniel needs him. This offense needs Tyreek Hill. But depending on what happens come October right before the trade deadline the first week of November. All right then, you know, we we’ll talk about that because things will possibly change there. But I I think in terms of these ace receivers, both teams, both offenses need them right now. So, um I know it’s early, but outside of Miami, the New York Giants were the toughest watch. And next year’s quarterback draft class looks like there’s four minimum five to six potential first round quarterbacks. So my opinion would be you better figure out if Jackson Dart can play. You better figure it out. And I made the argument I think Monday or Tuesday. If the Giants trail 14- nothing at half and have four three and outs, you’re going to start losing the locker room. And now now if they go to Dallas and they play well, all bets are off and Russell buys himself time. But when the Giants say Russell is quarterback one, do you buy it? What’s what’s the what’s the runway look like here? Yeah, I I did buy it because I was around them and the offense looked good with Russell in training camp and the coaching staff felt good. This wasn’t a scenario where remember when Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes was there and remember all the chatter about Patrick at practice it was like you got to see this kid like I think he may play right. I look I think Jackson Dart has impressed. There is no doubt. I think his personality his uh fiery um energy his understanding of Brian Dable I think they’re a wonderful match. I think they’re a perfect match. In fact, um I just think for the way training camp went, they are trying to get Jackson Dart as prepared as possible and Russell Wilson is able to do the job from their, you know, from from their perspective right now. They he can run the offense they’re looking for. They’re of course missing their left tackle, right? This this is the biggest part of this story. Why are you going to roll out Jackson Dart if you’re not going to give him the best protection? Because he’s just going to get hit and he’s not going to look good. He’s not even going to be able to run the offense. Just ask Daniel Jones, right? Look at him in Indie when he’s got some protection. Uh, you know, he lights it up week one. So, look, I think we’re going to see Jackson Dark Colin. That that is no doubt. We’re going to see him, especially if Russell Wilson continues to play like whatever that was. And I have to tell you, I was a little surprised. Look, we’ve had a million conversations on the show together about Russell Wilson, whether it was in Denver, in Pittsburgh last year. But there were times where we did see good things. And I understand what New York was seeing out of Russ. They love that quarterback room. They love putting Jackson Dart around Jamus, around Russell. Apparently, it’s it’s a type of quarterback room of let’s get the young guy ready, which is which, you know, is a good way to be knowing that he’s going to play. It’s just going to be a matter of when. And and Colin, whenever we talk about this stuff, it it’s not just in a vacuum of who’s going to be the best quarterback out there. You have to count uh the fact that Brian Dable is on the hot seat. Joe Shane is on the hot seat. John Mara came out last year and it pained him to bring these guys back because he didn’t want change. So you have to imagine some of this is a factor in when you pull the trigger and say because look, Brian Dable calls in Jackson Dart at the second half against the Dallas Cowboys because they need a spark and he bombs or they have to stick with him. Who knows what happens, right? So, I think all of this you have to take into consideration for a team in the last 10 years um you know is one of the most losing organizations uh you know outside the Jags which is hard to it’s hard to think of that right because you think Giants and you think that they’ve had success but it was so long ago uh at this point you know and that you you just take a look at the body warp of Brian Dable there and and outside of just that first season it’s just not great. Yeah. Diana Rousini, senior NFL insider, The Athletic. Got a podcast, too. It crushes. Good seeing you. Thanks. Yeah. Uh, Colin, check out my column, too, on The Athletic. I drop it at 10 a.m. Eastern on Saturdays. I love it. It’s my favorite thing I do. I just write about all the stuff going on in football. I will. We will.

Colin Cowherd is joined by Dianna Russini to react to the latest in the NFL. They begin with talking about the latest string of injuries for the San Francisco 49ers, including quarterback Brock Purdy. They discuss the possibility of the Philadelphia Eagles trading away A.J. Brown and the Miami Dolphins moving Tyreek Hill. Then they talk about the New York Giants’ offensive struggles and whether it’s time to start rookie QB Jaxson Dart over veteran Russell Wilson.

  1. Giants golden boy shouldn’t start or play behind the Swiss cheese OL let Russ take the heat for a losing season and be the sacrificial lamb. Draft OL next year for golden boy.

  2. It’s hard for me to take Colin serious when he says stuff like the eagles are going to trade Aj im glad Diana told him that was silly cause it’s absurd

  3. Russell Wilson REFUSES to Run. He has to run in order to move the offense. He won't do it anymore. He's not a starter anymore if he doesn't run. A 5'10 pocket passer not named Drew Brees won't be very successful.

  4. Kyle Shan has not always been transparent with injuries. She just LIED. Especially when CMC would randomly be out. He would be prepping the back up RB and telling the media he doesn’t know who’s going to start. The RB accidentally told reporters he was starting!
Kyle LIES. Like all these coaches.

  5. Two things:
Stop babying rookie QBs since they are more NFL-ready than ever before. Dart is absolutely a better option than Russ at this point in his declining career so if the Giants care about winning, put in Dart. Plus, it would be far more entertaining – fans would actually show up to the games even though each game is an Automatic loss.

Also, stop with this whole "Coach is QB whisperer" BS. A coach doesn't make a QB, legendary QBs make themselves. Crapadoo was not responsible for Aaron Rodgers' talent and Daboll was not responsible for Josh Allen's hard work that led to his significant improvement between rookie season and year 2. Daboll is NOT a good coach.

  6. Dumb question

The offensive line and the offense itself. Have you guys not seen Daniel Jones doing well in another situation?

What is any quarterback going to do with this offensive line? Get sacked .

Prediction : Malik Nabers will be asking for a trade by October .

  7. Tom Brady in his prime couldn't win with this team! Dart is irrelevant to winning because Dart can't fix the OLINE!!! The question should be, WHEN WILL SCHOEN & DABOLL BE FIRED? 4 SEASONS & counting of losing 👀

  8. No, ownership should override any GM or coaching decision to play Dart. Preserve his health until next year and the new administration — because behind the current offensive line he'd get injured.

  9. Any answer other than no, he should not start, is an idiotic response. There is no reason to toss him out there to get stomped. It's not a deep topic. Until that OL gets right, you're just sacrificing anything behind center.

  10. Look that's a minor fan a lot of people think that the injury issue has to do with shanahan but a precedes that there's something about Santa Clara some kind of curse or something shaking my head
