New England Patriots Winners & Losers vs. Raiders NFL Week 1 Ft. Drake Maye & Jaylinn Hawkins

[Music] It has been a couple of hours now since the Patriots were taken down by the Raiders 20 to13 in week one of the NFL season and my opinions have not changed on it. It was still an ugly ugly ugly loss. Welcome into Patriots Today by Chat Sports. I am your host Brett Alper and from the first half the Patriots looked really good and then the second half it was kind of well we don’t make any adjustments and when Pete Carol is the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders and I’ll be honest Josh McDaniels is your offensive coordinator it was not a good play calling game for McDaniels as we saw screen after screen after screen after screen you end up with this final score and you score three points in the second half and those points came in with about 19 seconds left in the game. So, not many high notes of this. There was a couple of it couple of winners from this game that we will get into, but a lot and I mean a lot of losers. So, I’ll ask you before we get into it. Who was your biggest loser from today’s game? I’ve seen a lot of people during our watch party. Shout out to everybody who tuned in, all 60,000 of y’all. I see a lot of people talking about Drake May. Let me know down in the comments section on who you think is the biggest loser from today’s game. Start with the winners. And I will say a lot of people talked about Harold Landry as a signing as this guy’s old. He’s coming over from the Titans. This is why he was cut. But he was definitely probably your best player that was on the field today. Five tackles, three for loss, four quarterback hits. He was all over the field getting pressure nonstop. And I mean nonstop. And the stat isn’t listed there, but he had two and a half sacks. And from what I read is that he was basically he had a a careerhigh in sacks. He looked like he came to absolutely play in this game. And from a defensive standpoint, when uh the quarterbacks and the safeties weren’t doing an absolute thing, yeah, Carlton Davis had a couple PBUs, so did Alex Austin, but you also let up just in general just bad plays. Harold Landry was kind of the shining moment of hey, we’re going to get some pressure on Gino Smith even though he threw for 360 yards. He’s a winner in my book and probably your best player on the field. The only one of the only positive notes on offense, it’s got to be Kan Booty. And I talked about it throughout the entire off season. I mean, it started when I became the host of this channel and we didn’t see them in OTAAS or anything like that. Kahan Booty from last year, he was kind of a disappointment and he was a guaranteed probably a trade target. Well, he came into training camp and he looked great. Preseason looked great. And then in the first game of the season, he looked great. Six catches, 103 yards, 17.2. He was the only kind of positive that we saw on the offense that really was stagnant. We saw four straight threeand outs by this team. Four straight three and outs over and over. They couldn’t get anything going. But in the first quarter, Kahan Booty had four catches. He was all over the field. He got hurt at one point. He got the wind knocked out of him on his first pass that went for about 30 yards and came back and he had another four catch four or five catches like six catches for Kahan Booty when you kind of expect, hey, Stefon Diggs is going to be the focal point of this offense. Yeah, Diggs ended with six receptions, but Kahan Booty was that main guy that we’re going to see. And I feel like he’s going to be one of Drake May’s top targets. I know we loves to talk about how good Diggs is and I people want to say, “Oh, he was need to get him more involved.” They got him more involved. But Kahan Booty was probably the high note of this offense in a very not offensive game. You see that number right there, 13 points. It was not good whatsoever. And this is a big thing for me because he was going to be the backup. And I I’m fine with him being the backup. He had a sack on the day. He was looking he he looked solid at some points, but overall he was terrible. First drive of the game for the Raiders. They drove right down the field and let up an incredible deep ball to Trey Tucker where there was no one around him. And who was in coverage? It was Jaylen Hawkins getting cooked. And then the Patriots already started behind down 7 nothing, which you came back and you ended up taking the lead, but Jaylen Hawkins was not great in the slightest. He let up a a unnecessary roughness penalty for 15 yards. And then you see right there, Brock Bowers before he even got hurt, five catches for 103. The safety was a huge problem for the Patriots today. And do we kind of expect it not to be? I mean, Dante Thornton went two catches for 45 yards. That wasn’t Jaylen Hawkins. Well, that was Carlton Davis. But Hawkins was not good. And it just shows like the Patriots should have never gotten rid of Jabril Peppers. there was no need to get rid of Jabriel Peppers because if he was there, Hawkins would be the backup. And I would love Hawkins as a backup, but as your starter, I don’t think he has enough NFL experience and enough game time to be that guy that you’re going to rely on. They relied on him a lot and he did not like he disappointed a lot and it was I I just don’t know why the hell they cut Peppers, man. And it’s starting it really showed today on the on the defense on the defensive side. I don’t the numbers are going to lie, but Drake May, you’re a loser in my book. And I’m wearing your jersey right now, but you did not impress me a lot today. I know it says three 30 completions for 287 yards, but the Patriots were kind of That was all in garbage time. You at one point went four straight drives where it was three and out, three and out, three and out. First drive of the game, you overthrew Pop Douglas just way over his head. You missed a lot of throws today, Drake May. And the one throw to Pop Douglas to get that touchdown was a good touchdown. It was a good touchdown. It was a nice catch, a nice route, but overall, it wasn’t a good day for you. I’d like to see you make a little more runs. You stood back there and you kind of just looked and waited for the pressure to get to you. The offensive line, in my opinion, looked solid. There was not a lot of pressure. Malcolm Coats got to him when the game was already over and there was a strip sack. unable but by Will Campbell but overall no problem. Daryl Bradberry looked good. Morgan Moses allowed six pressures which is okay but it wasn’t where it was like Drake May was running for his life. He stood back there and just waited for things to happen and nothing happened. Like yeah you could say the wide receivers did not get open which they didn’t but Drake May try to get them open and Josh McDaniels please for the love of God call better plays. I don’t want to see a screen on first down over and over and over and over again. Pop Douglas had a touchdown and it was cool, but after that he did absolutely absolutely nothing. And it was disappointing to say like two receptions for negative -2 yards. How was that possible when you had a touchdown? And I’m pretty sure he had nine targets in this game. Nine targets for Yeah. Pop Douglas, two receptions, seven targets. After that second touchdown or after the second catch was which is for a touchdown, Pop Douglas was non-existent. You’re telling me he threw for him another four times and you couldn’t find him in the in the air at all. Get open, Pop. You’re supposed to be the slot guy. You’re supposed to be the guy that thrives in this type of offense to have quick slants, to have short routes, but he was nowhere to be found from the second half and beyond. And that’s also going into once again a Josh McDaniels play call. And my final loser of today’s game. You made two field goals, but they were one of them was 44 yards and it was not in garbage time, which I’m okay with, but it was better than we saw. But Andy Borales, you missed an easy easy easy yardder to start the game and you would have been gotten that 13 points and it would have been better because you would have been up and you would the momentum going your way, but you missed an easy ass kick and it just makes you wonder should have should they have kept Andy Borales? I like him, but you can’t be missing 40 yard field goals, man. I get the conditions are bad, but you are a professional kicker. The Raiders didn’t miss kicks. Come on. John Parker Romo was still out there. He did not sign with the team. So, if he still is not looking pretty well, they could easily bring in Parker Romo and give him a little scare. And maybe they make the right decision. Overall, I just want to say this was a classic case of the Patriots playing awful and not the Raiders playing good. Uh, you could talk about how good those stats are for the receivers. Well, Trey Tucker was wide open. Dante Thornton was wide open. Brock Bowers was wide open. Rock Bowers got hurt. He got hit in the knee and didn’t play for the fourth quarter. Michael Mayer came in and was wide open. It was It was not like it was like tough to play football against this Patriots team. They didn’t make it tough. Gino Smith just found his wide open man and that’s why he threw for 360 yards. Do I think that that their Raiders are going to do that next week? No. The Patriots, they do play the Miami Dolphins. And the Miami Dolphins lost 33 to8 to the Indianapolis Colts. And it is literally I it’s if they lose to the Dolphins, you’re going to have to have some serious serious questions because after this game, after what I saw what Miami did against Indianapolis and didn’t do anything, Mike McDaniel should be fired. But if you lose to that team who looked absolutely awful, Tua looked awful. It’s bad. They’re a bad team. If you can’t beat them, the problems are going to come.
