Chicago Bulls’ Next Big Decision: Ayo Dosunmu or Coby White?

Major decisions are on the way for the Chicago Bulls as they head into this season and having some foresight. They got to look to 2026 as well. Now, after they got Josh Giddy contract situation kind of wrapped well wrapped up now they got major decisions looking at either IO Doumu or Kobe White or both. Y’all know we gonna talk about Chicago Bulls next big decision that they’re going to have to make, but you know, you got to hear the music first. Conac. Shot Boys Podcast with the Conac Boys. I’m Conac Boy Bobby and I’m holding it down on another daily episode. So, if you’re tuned in, man, go ahead and hit that like button and subscribe to the channel. As previously mentioned, we know that the Josh Giddy contract situation has now wrapped up and Josh Giddy will now be here for the next four years. At least that’s what we anticipate. And as we get closer to the season, we got to look at Chicago Bulls. The Chicago Bulls next big move or the next big decision. Now, I know there was some people there that will be some people that will ask the question and they will be fair questions when it comes to what about Nicolus? What about the expiring contracts? Those are fair questions to have. But I think the bigger decisions lie in two of the longest tenure Bulls players that we currently have in Iodumu and Kobe White. When we talk about the decision that the Chicago Bulls have to make at the end of this season in 2026, I do Sumu will be a un unrestricted free agent. That means he can go anywhere. Kobe White will be a unrestricted free agent. That means he can go anywhere. So for me in knowing that these guys still have a lot of basketball left for their career and knowing that what they have brought to the Chicago Bulls up until this point, one has to really really at least in my evaluation place these two decisions at the top of the list. Nikolovich, I understand that’s something that we have to do, but uh I think that he has no long-term future here. That’s just my personal opinion. You know, things can change. The front office can definitely do something to shock the world like they’ve always done. But I definitely believe that when it comes to if you should allow one of your young players to either walk or make them an offer so they can stay, that is a more that places more of an emphasis on that decision that the Chicago Bulls have to make. Now, when we talk about Kobe White, Kobe White has been somebody that was once a starter, then benched, then placed the starter lineup again, then a point guard, then playing offball. And all through those obstacles, I keep saying it, man. Kobe White has he’s achieved everything. Um, and he has earned everything based on what the limit based on some of the limitations that we have placed on him. um including some outside figures as well that’s you know not necessarily dialed into Bull’s content like we are over here on Shaboo’s podcast. And then when it comes to Io Dumu, this is a guy second round pick who came in and really has thrived. You know what I’m saying? Definitely suffered that injury last year and we definitely missed him. But when you talk about Iodumu, it’s one of those things to where you look at him and say, “Yes, he’s a Shottown kid, so we always going to love him.” But it’s also a good thing to talk about when you speak of Iodumu to say, “Hey, I do Sumu was a guy that came in and you can pretty much place him anywhere. You can run him on ball as a point guard. You can run him off ball.” You seen him improve that three-point shot to where at one point we seen him come down the court after being such a threat in the fast break and be able to knock down the three consistently. So, you look at both of these young players and what the expectations are for the Chicago Bulls with certain reports that went out LA uh earlier this year with the Chicago Bulls wanting to quote unquote emulate what the Indiana Pacers have over there with a number of players that can fit in multiple positions that can do a number of things. And these two guys in my evaluation, they can help this young Chicago Bulls team continue to take step continue to take steps forward in the right direction. So the decision is, will you be able to pay these guys? What will be the move? Right now, you got guys that’s on expiring contracts. That’s going to free up about $80 million for the Chicago Bulls. But the thing is, I think the measuring stick is how well does this unit mesh together this season to where the Chicago Bulls feel they are comfortable enough to say, “Hey, we don’t want to let go of iodu. We don’t want to let go of a Kobe White.” So, I think that this season is going to be a big big season for this Chicago Bulls team. not in regards to how many games they win um or saying that they have to reach the Eastern Conference Finals, but pretty much saying that can these young guys show us can these guys give us enough evidence to believe that we are just a couple pieces away from contention. Now, a lot will argue and say, “No, we’re not even close to contending. We’re based in the playin.” Yeah, that’s fair. But with the Eastern Conference shaping up, how it’s shaping up, and with so many injuries, with other teams or some so many unknowns, we don’t know what this young team is going to do in the Eastern Conference, let alone the NBA this season. In fact, when you talk about, excuse me, in fact, when you talk about Iodumu, there is some speculation that the Chicago Bulls could try to trade him. You know what I’m saying? Because when you look at Iod Doubu, my man’s only playing for a little bit over $7 million this season. And one of those trades that has been placed out, you know what I’m saying, to see if uh the Chicago Bulls with the uncertainty of will they keep him around, it has placed him in some type of trade discussions. We know that he has been a part of those discussions. At least that’s what has been rumored um this off season. But one of them I came across coming from Bleacher Report includes a three-team trade that has Iod Doumu included and that includes the three teams that will be involved will be the Denver Nuggets, the Bulls of course, and the Washington Wizards. Now, the Denver Nuggets, they will receive Justin Champagne, IO Do Sumu, and the Chicago Bulls will receive Zeke Naji, Peyton Watson, 2026 second round pick, the least favorable of Dallas OKC Philly. Uh, and that will come via Washington and a 2028 first round swap top 10 protection via Denver while the Washington Wizard was just received a 2032 second round pick from Denver. Now, it’s an interesting trade. Something that doesn’t necessarily move me personally, but it’s definitely something that you have to have these conversations about because the Chicago Bulls, you’re going to have to make a decision. I don’t necessarily believe that you should allow Iodum to walk away for nothing. And I think that the Chicago Bulls have done that in their past way too many times. You know what I’m saying? Like Andre Drummond walk away for nothing. It looks like Nicolus may be walking away for nothing. And you can’t continue to do things like that, especially when you held on to guys like DJJ walked away for nothing. So you want to make sure that you have something at least in return, especially for a young player like I do because if you trade him to the Denver Nuggets, he is going to be a key piece for what those guys are already trying to do or what they’re already doing and he can add on to that because he’s so good in whatever you need him to do. So that’s definitely a tough decision the Chicago boys are going to have to make. When it comes to Kobe White, that decision right there is we heard some rumblings, you know what I’m saying, for Kobe White pretty much saying that the Bulls are gearing up to give him over $30 million on his next upcoming contract, which makes a lot of sense. Again, we talked about some of those things that Kobe White has done, all those obstacles that he has hurdled, but obviously you want to see a little bit more consistency, but how can you not have at least some type of positivity in your mind to say that Kobe White can’t do it? You know what I’m saying? Kobe White has placed himself in most improved player conversations. Kobe White has won player of the week, has won player of the month. You know what I’m saying? and we seen him just this past season eclipse his careerh high in points who’s to say he can’t do it again. Who’s to say that? And plus when you lock up Josh Giddy for the four years and then you consider if Montas Bzelis can take this step forward if you can have a three-headed monster or a young nucleus that you can run with with uh Kobe White who’s a little bit more seasoned who just now getting ready to enter his prime. and then you got a Josh Giddy and then you have a Montas Bzelis. That’s three solid young players that you can absolutely roll with and continue to add to that. So ultimately I think that my decision would be to try to retain both of these guys. That’s Iod Dosumu and Kobe White. Me personally I would try to retain both of those guys. If the Chicago Bulls are looking to move anybody, I would think that it would be some of those expiring contracts to see if you can get some assets. I know that teams have been stingy a little bit when it comes to trading first round picks and trading second round picks and whatnot, but I think that if you can get some players in return, maybe some developmental players, and then add in some assets into some of those expiring contracts, your Nicolola Lavusovviches, your Zack Collins or whatnot, you open the door for opportunity for guys to come out there and show and prove themselves, at least the younger guys that’s on your team. And that puts emphasis on how well you need to develop players. Now, we can give the Chicago Bulls a little bit of kudos when it comes to developing some of these players. You’ve seen Josh Giddy, you know, be better than what he was in OKC, at least for the second half of the season. We’ll see what happens, you know, this upcoming season for an entire season in another year in this system. So, we’ll see that. You seen Kobe White take steps forward. You seen Josh Giddy really come around the second half of the season. We don’t know what Noah Essen is going to look like, but if the developmental process for the Chicago Bulls is a successful one, that young fella can be a really, really good player for the Chicago Bulls in my belief. So, you have some things that you can work with. And me personally, if you’re trying to build out a complete roster, you don’t want to let Dou or Kobe White walk out the door for nothing. You know what I’m saying? So, but my evaluation says that nobody is really winning with a bunch of stars anymore. You know what I’m saying? Kind of like how the Super Team era was. That’s just my opinion. I think now you have to have a more well-rounded roster to where you can mix and match, you know what I’m saying? Different players on the floor to kind to kind of set up matchups against the opposing team. and Aodos Sumu, he comes in as a guy that can fit multiple roles, uh, that can do different things while Kobe White can really put up some points if you allow him to. And he and if he goes ahead and, you know, just have that belief and that trust that we always seen him go out there and have, he can really light it up. Obviously, you want to see Kobe White take that step forward. You know what I’m saying? when it comes to performing in, you know, got to have it games and just slamming a door shut on the opposing team in said game. But I think that Kobe White has shown that he understands what he needs to do next. He understands what it takes, you know what I’m saying, to reach that next level. How far up will he go is still to be determined and that’s fair. But I think that the big decision that you have to make on both of these guys because I do has outplayed that 7 million. Kobe White has outplayed that 12 million that he’s planned on this contract. You know what I’m saying? So, those guys need to be compensated. And I say that the Chicago Bulls can move in another direction to where you can continue to build this thing out for 2026. They placed that that tidbit in our minds at the end of the season last year, you know, and they they got to live up to it. They got to work their ass off to live up to it. And I think these players have to respond as well. It’s a it’s a it’s not just one-sided thing. Obviously, you want the front office to go out there and get the best players available, but at the same time, once those players come to the team, those guys have to perform. And these two guys right here, I do Sumo and Kobe White have been performing. You know what I’m saying? So, we’ll see what happens with this team this upcoming season. And I think it is a crucial crucial season for these young guys to see, hey, maybe we do need to pivot a little bit or to see, hey, we could stay the course and keep Iodumu around, keep Kobe White around. These guys, they want to win and they Iodumu placed it out there for us. We want to make the playoffs. I say stand on business and put it on wax. show us what you guys are made of and then maybe we can go ahead and continue to push forward to where we can be right back in contention because it has been overwhelming to say the least watching this Chicago Bulls team constantly end up in the playin and not really make the playoffs to get that type of experience. But these guys have experienced heartache. They have experienced losses in this league that should help them with their development. That should be, you know what I’m saying, something added to their resume to help them get better. And we going to see how they respond this upcoming season, bro. We’re going to see how they respond this upcoming season. But when it comes to that decision, let me know how y’all feel. Should the Chicago Bulls be looking to move Iod Doumu, move Kobe White, or should they be trying to retain both of these players? You know, my position is you should be trying to retain both of these players, especially if you’re trying to build out a complete roster. These two guys know what it takes. So, let me know how y’all feeling about everything discussed today. Drop those comments down below. Let me know your thoughts. Let me know what you’re thinking. But I appreciate y’all because that is it for me. Make sure you always see red and y’all already know. I’mma catch y’all on the next one for sure. Peace. Conc.

  1. Agree with you, Bobby. Think trading any of these two is a fool''s errand. We all know the sky's the limit. for Coby and he's shown growth the last few years (unlike P-Wil). As for Ayo, it's between him and Kevin Huerter for starting small forward position. Both are good players with different strengths. And both contributed to the Bulls playing winning basketball in the last month. Huerter had 15 starts after joining the Bulls averaging 15 ppg. and the Bulls were 13-2 over that. Meanwhile, Ayo had 26 starts averaging 14 ppg. None are superstars, but this is a good tandem. SIGN ME UP!! It's up to Billy Donovan to use situational coaching and get the best outta both players.
