  1. What is there to discuss at this point? QO is stupid for him and it’s bad for us. He’s not getting money elsewhere. He should just take the money we’re presumably offering it’s probably around 17 a year

  2. The truth is the team has all the leverage. There’s no one else who can pay him at this point. We have an absolute glut of potential star guards. All we really gave up for Grimes was a decent value contract of a role player. If Grimes takes the QO and we end up losing him for nothing I doubt the Morey and the fanbase is losing sleep over it

  3. What fumble? Sixers have a limit of how much they can go up. And Grimes’s minutes will be reduced this season probably.

  4. Do people think Grimes couldn’t get 15 mil or so next off-season. Like I doubt the sixers are offering him much more than like 16 mil.

And the team does need him to play and he can play an important on a good team in theory

  5. I’m not sure it’s a bad idea for Grimes to holding the qualifying offer because I’m not sure what kind of player he is

Will he have opportunity to prove himself next year?

On one hand lots of guards on the team. Other hand he’s probably the best two way guard on a team with a coach on hot seat. On the third hand, he’s probably gonna be asked to defend a lot of 3s, so he might not look that good defensively and his offense might suffer as a result.

He’s not a 22 pt a game scorer and not a defensive stopper.

I think he’s likely to make in the open market not more than 20-22 a year if Derrick White makes 30.

So yeah I guess I don’t think it makes sense to take the qualifying offer if he has a 15m a year offer on the table.

  6. On the one hand, there’s still a couple of weeks until the heart of training camp really starts, and a little more than a month before the season opens, so the urgency isn’t yet where it will be ten days from now. On the other, its not like the landscape is likely to change in any measurable way between now and when negotiations actually start in earnest – the only reason for delaying things from QG’s side is hoping one of the other RFAs somehow gets bank from their team, which they could put on the desk as evidence that Grimes deserves more. Or that story after story in the media about Grimes’ holdout in the first week of camp will somehow create pressure on the front office to get something done.

Given all that, I could see this dragging out into his missing the preseason trip overseas, which would not be ideal but also won’t be remembered by anyone a couple weeks into the season, either.
