Guy can still play, with Gonzalez season in jeopardy we could use a Corner like him

  1. Can he still play? The contracts he has been getting offered don’t seem to suggest so. Let’s look at what he’s done since leaving us:
Traded to CAR where he plays well, but gets season ending injury and his contract expires, so he becomes a FA. He signs with IND for a 2/20, only 14 guaranteed. That’s not real no.1 CB money. End of that 1st Colt season ends with him getting hurt again. That offseason he is traded to DAL where he plays well…until he tears his laberum and ends his season early…again. That contract expires, so he signs in MIN for just 1/$7. He takes no.1 CB reps but regularly gets beat, ranking as the 94th best CB in the NFL, before once again ending the season injured. So…do we REALLY want an often injured CB on a very clear downturn just because he was once great for us 5 years ago?

  2. I think he has value as a depth piece. But he turns 35 next week and people shouldn’t expect him to go 1v1 with the other team’s top receivers, like Gonzalez would. Conversely, he won’t sign with a team unless it’s worth it for him.

  3. Felt bad for Gilly. Dude just wanted to be paid but he got hurt and fell off. He was still easily the starter for most teams in the league though.

JC Jackson was in the same boat. Two of the best in the league for years and yeah, injuries got him too. I really hope we don’t see Gonzo follow suit.
