Pirates vs. Nationals Game Highlights (9/12/25) | MLB Highlights

making his 16th start on the year, 45th appearance on the year, five and eight. You see the 4-2 the way he’s been able to keep the ball in the yard. Walks have been up a little bit here and there, but I mean just think about all the different things that he has done for this team. Brad’s been phenomenal. Lord knocks it down. Going to be able to underhand it. Hopefully he’s all right. And on to Josh Bell, the former Pirates. Got friends and family here swinging a fly ball left field toward the line. On the move is James Wood right at the line. He makes the catch. Indicated a fair ball. So two out and no beans. And he’ll bounce one to the right side to a knee. Garcia. Couple of grounders around a routine fly ball. Great start to the weekend for Brad Lord. Man, you take a look at Mitch Keller and what Mitch has been able to do. He’s just literally been an iron horse for this staff. Making his 30th start of the season. You have to love to see that highf fly ball and that is one batter, one out. Here’s James Wood. Yeah, another young talented hitter for this Nationals team. And a strike three call. And Wood, that’s his 199th strikeout this season. That ties a franchise record set by Adam Dunn in 2010. So two out and nobody on here in the bottom of the first inning. And Josh Bell will stand in. bounce to first. Keller will be there and a hoham. One, two, three. Bottom of the first inning. 10 pitches for Mitch Keller. It’s nothing nothing. Andrew McCutchen will be the cleanup man for the Pirates tonight. Andrew McCutchen drew some cheers as he stepped in, swings to the first pitch and grounds wide of third in time for the out. And now Nick Gonzalez is coming to bat. And a ground ball up the middle and threw for a base hit. Turned around a slider from Lord and a one out base hit for Gonzalez. Now here’s O’Neal Cruz batting in the number six spot. He swings and bounces one softly to first. Bell will throw underhand out into center field. And we remember that. And the Crews will scamper into second base. Second and third with one out. This is Bell’s 24th game in the field this year. They primarily keep him as the DH. And the infield play most of the way up for Cam Deainy. Brad Lord delivers a swing and a miss and Deainy has struck out. So Lord comes back from a 3-1 count to get him and has his first strike out of the night and the second out of the inning. Now Giwan Bay is the batter up the middle. Abrams to his left on the run and Brad Lord with a fantastic job of getting out of a second and third one out pickle. There’s Don Lyle. Now the pitch and the next one up and away. That is ball four. He has drawn a leadoff walk here in the bottom of the second. The Nationals have their first base runner. The leadoff man is on. Here is Luis Garcia Jr. Lined. Oh, a little pick on the back hand and that’s turned into a double play. Yeah, that’s gold over there. Jared Triolo, the gold glover. Two outs and nobody on now for Riley Adams over the years in this ballpark to the tune of 40 and 23, but we are all knotted up after two. Lot of ground balls by both starters so far. Here is Jared Triello bounced back to the mound his only time. He swings and lines one out toward left field and deep. And this ball is going to hit off the wall and over it. It’ll go over for an automatic double as Trielo continues his hot hitting since being called back up. He’s on at second with one out for Spencer Horowitz. Lines to left field. Yeah, that’s a good piece of hitting there. Triolo going to be held. The throw comes in from James Wood. Triolo to third men at the corners with Brian Reynolds coming up the other way and a base hit and it’s one- nothing Pirates. Maybe that just opened up the can. Brian Reynolds really greedy with getting those RBI’s and that’s exactly what it looks like. That’ll bring in Andrew McCutchen. That ball hugging the line all the way down. Brady House strong on the throw. Two outs. Both runners move up. Nick Gonzalez base hit up the middle first time. Pretty good job of jamming a hitter again. Ready House right on target to Josh Appel considering all of it. Pretty solid second and third. Only one run for Brad. Dylan Cruz leads off. Swing and a high popup around home plate. Davis holding the mask now tosses it aside and makes the catch. One out. Here is Brady House. Some consideration. He should fly ball out to left field and said it’ll be Cruz to call off Bay and he’s in charge. Here’s Robert Hassel the third. One- nothing Pirates. The pitch. Hassel lines one to left center field. That’s down for a hit. Bay cuts it off streaking to his left and will hold Hassel to a single. So, Robert Hassel the third as the Nationals first hit as he bangs one the other way. Hassel had a hit last night as a pinch hitter. We’ll see if the Nationals can make something with two outs. And CJ Abrams left center. Cruise over. Man, he makes up a lot of ground. 11 pitches. Here’s an 01. Cruz with a liner into right. That’s going to get down for a base hit. Cruz will field Cruz’s single. And Cruz is on for Cam Deainy. Good hit by Brady House. Plenty of time for the 543. Two outs and nobody on for Bay. Cruz going back to the warning track. He leaps at the wall and he makes a spectacular catch. banging up into the fence. He robs Bay of extra bases in front of the big wall just to the left of the bullpen. Cruz timed it, rising and reaching. Hauls it in for an outstanding third out here in the fourth inning. What a catch by Dylan Cruz. Reminiscent of one he made late last year after his call up like that. Base hit for Triolo. Left-handing first baseman is fly to left and single to left. that after Triolo’s double and indeed he takes off and there’s a drive to right field for Spencer Horowitz and clear the deck. Cannonball coming for Spencer Horowitz. That’s his ninth and gives the Pirates a three nothing lead. That’s how you move the ball forward. And Spencer Horus deposited back in the bullpen. Only batter that Keller has struck out today is Wood. Here’s Riley Adams. He grunted out his only time. They said, “Are you the tallest manager in baseball?” Adams swings through it. Keller has his third strike out tonight. Dylan Cruz fouled out to the catcher his only time. Check swing roller and Keller. Another easy breezy inning. Another 10 pitch inning. Yep, it is 10 pitch Mitch. Looks like it’s going to be Cruz against Lord. Right in there. Cruz freezing. Paul jammed him a bit and Brad Lord has his third K of the day. And now since the Horwitz homer, he’s retired four straight. Little change up. Pulled it a little bit. Good miss. Lord jams him. Good fast ball in a really good inning for Brad with a ground ball to short. Couple of strikeouts. It’s Brady House facing Mitch Keller. Three nothing Pirates. First pitch is skyed right center field. Well struck. Chasing back. Cruz not going to get to it. Looking up at the wall and it’s gone. Brady House puts one over the out of town scoreboard in right center field. And the Nats are on the board. Home run number four for House. Makes it 3-1 Pirates. He’s all over a first pitch. Keller slider and bangs it over the right center field wall to hopefully get the Nats offense going here tonight. Keller comes back to strikeout hassle after the home run. That’s his fourth strike out. But the Nats only two hits tonight. See if the Nets get Abrams aboard here. We’ll see. He is aboard. Turning on one. Hitting it well to right. CJ’s had two impactful swings so far. Mats have a chance here. Down 3-1. James Wood, the batter. Now Wood gashes one to center. That ball is over. Cruz. Abrams heading for third. He’ll be held because the ball’s already in the hands of the shortstop. Just like that, the Nats have the tying run in scoring position. Wow. 62 pitches and Keller is lifted. And they go with the lefty, 28-year-old Evan Cisk. That’ll make Josh Bell bad right-handed. Runner second and third. It’s just 156 against lefties. And they’ve got the runner caught between home and third. Deainy runs him back to Davis. Oh my. Don’t see that very often. But uh Abrams going in hard. James Wood was not able to advance to third base. Should have almost hit him. Two walks by Lyall tonight. Not the easiest thing for any pitchers to do. It’s only 17 for Dalon all year. So they’re loaded now for Luis Garcia Jr. Ball goes through the catcher. Everybody moves up and it’s a 3-2 ball game. Well, that was an unexpected surprise. Depending on this should be the 14th wild pitch this year against Henry Dav or Deon Cis, but Henry Davis catching there. He got him, but they do give up a run. It’s three to two. Riley Adams the batter. And the Pirates have a new pitcher, Kyle Nicholas. Adams takes a non-competitive pitch way outside. The Nets have have received three walks tonight. You pinch run for him right here. They’re going to do it for sure. But now Young with his speed is the tying run and Dylan Cruz is the batter. Cruz has popped up and out on a check swing ground ball. Use some of that speed. Cruz hammers one to right center. CU opposite field later. An absolute cruise missile and the Nets are on top for the first time tonight. He goes 108. Oppo for the go-ahad homer. Robert Hassel has had himself a good night at the plate. Two for three. That’s the second out of the inning. There’s James Wood. He got into a line drive over the head of the center fielder O’Neal Cruz in the sixth inning. Hard hit down the line. Heading around to third is Hassel. Reynolds up with it. He’s going to send the runner as Ricky Gutierrez. And then Hassel stopped. That’ll be all now for Nicholas Dowry. Moretta is the new pitcher for Pittsburgh. He’s on to face Josh Bell. Battling on 02 and look what he does. Hessel scores. Here comes Wood. Ball gets beyond Cruz and Josh Bell will rumble into second base with a two-run single and then the Cruz 10th error of the year. Top of the ninth inning here in Nationals Park. And now it’s Jose Ferrer for the ninth inning going for the save. line drive to left. There’s one way to get it. Bounces up over the wall. Smoked. It was smoked. And if you can get the ball over James Wood head, you’re doing some damage. He stands in 67 itself. Nick York will pinch hit for O’Neal Cruz. Ball. Yes. Pass first. Run. Scores. RBI pinch hit single for York. Brings the tying run to the plate. One ball, two strikes. and he pulls the string to get that first out. Little sigh of relief I it felt like from Jose after that. There’s Canario. Battle here continues. 3-2 pitch. Oh, good job by Canario. Puts runners at first and second for Bart. See if that doesn’t get a trip to the mound. A lot of pitches. First and second, one out. And it’s Joey Bart to pinch hit for Henry Davis and gets away. And now a base hit could tie it. Joey Bart won for six this season as a pinch hitter. Left field runner coming around. Good throw. There’s the call at the plate. James Wood. His throw of the year. Assist number five. Well, James Wood comes up and fires an absolute BB. What a way to let it go. And a great tag by Jorge Alro. Oh my. And they made a pretty quick decision not to challenge. Bart did get to second on the throw, but for the moment, the Nats lead by one still. There we go. Triolo in the air to right and the Nats hold on the win. Yeah, those pesky Pirates made it a one-run game again, but the Nats hold on for their 61st win of the

  1. The pirates are back at it, just like the last 28 out of 34 years. The most consistent losing team in American sports. Break the pirates apart. Let these players play for a winning team.
