Tigers vs. Marlins Game Highlights (9/12/25) | MLB Highlights

And tonight folks, it’s the best pitching matchup in all of baseball. One that’ll pitch Sandy Alcantra against the reigning Sai Young award winner in the American League, TK Scooble. Sandy making his 29th start on the year. He is 8-2 with a 567 erra across 154 innings. But Sandy over his last five starts, a 2 and a half erra, 33 punch outs and just six walks. This is undoubtedly the best version of Sandy Alcantra that we have seen all season long. Now what a hard hit ground ball that is grabbed on a slide from Otto Lopez. He pops up, spins and fires to first in time for out number one. Nice play by the Marlins. Shortstop. Otto sliding on the turf. Two away here in the top of the first inning. Brings up Carrie Carpenter. One that a tapper that hit off Sandy’s glove. The first baseman Wagamman. He picked it up. He tried a glove flip and he shot the ball right in the air with that backhand flip and Carrie Carpenter is aboard with a two-out infield single. Green swings and misses. That is a Tiger franchise record for punch outs in a single season and Sandy has his first strikeout tonight. Bottom of the first inning and the ace scoo on the bump for the Tigers. The Sai Young numbers from last year have all been leveled up this year and he’s pacing for a better erra. More innings, more punch outs, fewer walks. And TK school in his 14 straight scoreless innings. Wow. Three pitch strike out of Xavier Edwards. Team that doesn’t draw a lot of walks. Kind of middle of the pack. Bottom five in walks drawn. They don’t strike you out a lot, but that was easy for Durk School. Here is Augustine Ramirez and the one pitch is hit in the air to left field. pass is deep and it’s gone. Augustine number 20 of his rookie season off of Scubble. It’s one- nothing Miami. That is a home run Augustine Ramirez will not forget anytime soon. Just the 16th homer allowed by Scooble this season. He gets that four seam fast up in the zone. Came in at 97 and it left the ballpark at 110. Trick Scooble came into his start tonight riding a 14 consecutive scoreless inning streak over his last two starts. Augustine Ramirez said not so fast. Sandy Alcantra working with a lead. It’s one- nothing Fish. That one 99 dotted on the outside rail. A cold third strike and a three- pitch punch out for Sandy against Torlson. And there are two men gone. That’ll bring up Javier Bayz. Oh my. Oh my. Bayas swings and that did that foul off. I think it did. Fouled fouled it off and popped right up. Oh man, it was that it was that pitch that was boring in on him. Either the sinker or the change up left eye pitch that looked like it might hit him, but that again that’s that sinker that just doesn’t stop boring in if you’re a right-handed batter. See how he is. Tigers making sure that that is going to come out. Wow, look at the nod. Oh boy. Trey Sweeney inherits an 02 count. The 2-2 is cut on and missed. A curveball. Sweeney swung over the top and Sandy Alcantra as a one two3 inning with a couple of punch outs. That’s three on the night already. In the bottom of the second, Hernandez going to lead things off. It’s one- nothing fish against TK Scubble. Hernandez with a fly ball to right field. Carpenter looking up and gone. An opposite field bomb for Arberto Hernandez. Two nothing Miami. It’s hard enough to get a hit off this cat terble, let alone two home runs in a game. That just doesn’t happen. Two home runs, first five batters. Two nothing Marlins. Eric Wagaman. He swings at the first pitch and drives into right center field. That’s in for a base hit. And that two hops the wall in right center. Carpenter picks it up. Fires it back in. And Wagac has a double home run followed by a double. This is rather stunning. Marlins threatening. When’s the last time you think Scooble has felt like this? One-two pitch. This one swung on. Ground ball up the middle. Scooped by Glaver Torres at second. On to first in time for the out. Wagamin gets over to third base. And there’s one gone here in the Marlins second inning. Two and one. A Costa’s in the driver’s seat and ran inside. It hit him. A Costa hit by a fast ball at 99. And now the Marlins have men at first and third with one away for Javier Senoha. 01 pitch to Senoha is hit out towards second base. Torres has got it. He’ll go to second for one. That’s all. Wagaman will score from third. That’s how you get the job done. It’s three nothing Miami. San has been on cruise control through the front third of this one. We’re to the top of the fourth. It’s three nothing Marlins. So, two up and two down in this fourth. And now he sees Riley Green. That one’s deep. Marcy at the track and gone. Just kept carrying. Wow, that was so high. Didn’t think it could possibly go out. 34th of the year. Tigers are on the board. That ball was smoked. And that’s that curve ball on the inner part of the plate. Look at the uppercut. The sheer uppercut. That’s why it was hit so high. 39°. That’s basically a popup. 3-1 Tigers trail at bottom of the fourth inning here in Miami. Terry Scubble off the 1, two, three, third. Back to work here in the fourth. Off balance. Throw to first. Draws Torqulson off the bag and he is safe. Likely an infield hit. Man on first for Eric Wagaman who doubled in the second inning. It’s hit in the air to center. Parker Meadows wave in the arm says he’s got it. Finally gets down to him. He’ll make the catch. Uh-oh. AJ Hinch assistant trainer Kelly Rhodess out to talk with Terk Scoo. Oh boy. What do we got? Yeah. This is Anytime something happens. This is where the heartbeat of AJ Hinch just races. Oh my goodness. Oh my. Turk was talking. Had the glove in front of his face. And clearly something. This is the last pitch that Terrick Scooble threw. And then watch what happens after. Grabs the left side, left side of the rib cage. We are not going to speculate. We can just tell you that’s what he felt. And man, the Tigers will have to dip into their pen early today. There are two men gone. It’s Maximo A. Costa against Raphael Montero. Now on a line shot that’s through the left side of the infield for a base hit. A splitter and Maximo tagged it on the ground. That is a two out knock that pushes Hernandez to second. Two on and two out. Javier Senoha the hitter. First pitch to Java. That one flicked into shallow center field. Long run for Sweeney and Meadows. He dives and it gets down for a base hit. They’re sending a Costa round third and the throw came into the infield, not to home plates. That is a tworun bloop double for Javier Senoha. And the fish are jumping on Detroit. 51 in the bottom of the fourth. We’re in the top of the sixth inning. Marlins lead the Tigers right now by a count of 5 to1. There’s one man gone and out of lineup back at the top and Parker Meadows. Two to Meadows. A foul tip held on to by Augustine. It was 99 blown by him and a punch out is out number two. 10 pitch that one a high one hopper. Sandy picks it up. He flips to the covering wags first. He was off the first base bag. He got back there in time. Brings Chris Paddock into the game. So the numbers for the Tigers not a whole lot different. I mean he has struggled. Let’s face it. He had a couple of good starts. That is uh a walk and a knock against Chris Paddock in the home sixth. And there are runners on first and second and nobody out. So immediate trouble against Chris Paddock. Himer is 0 for two. There’s a drive in the air to left field. Forget about it. That ball was hammered by Joey Wemer. It’s his third home run as a Marlin. Wow. The Fists are pouring it on on Friday night. A threerun bomb. 8-1 Marlins in the bottom of the sixth. Sandy Alcantra, six innings, a run, two hits. The only damage, a towering big league homer off the bat of Riley Green in the fourth, but other than that, he looks great. He has looked spectacular. The Tigers threatening a little bit here against Sandy. Runners at second and third with nobody gone in the top of the seventh, but the Fish have uh some serious capital to work with. They lead eight to one. Tigers trying to make a little noise here in the seventh. One, two is cut on and missed. A change up. Bottomed out on Torque. He swung over the top of it. There’s one man gone. 02 pitch is caught on and missed. Change up again. He hunted K. He got it on three straight changes and there are two men gone. Second and third with nobody out. All of a sudden there’s two out. This ball gets away from the catcher Ramirez. And coming in to score is Carrie Carpenter. It’s an 8 to2 game. You feel for Sandy. He did everything in his power to get through seven innings of one-run ball. Seven to two. Still feels pretty darn good. That a hard hit ground ball over to second. X stays down on that. He fires to first and the inning is over. At 95 pitches, Sandy just fired 99 to the knees and he got a ground ball out to finish off seven innings of two run baseball. George Sorano’s coming on for the ninth. It’s been all Marlins here in game one. and Keith aboard. There are two men gone at the top of the ninth. Ground ball out towards second. Edwards has got it. He’s going to apply a tag on the runner and the ball game is over. Sandy Alcantra outdo and the Marlins down the Tigers eight-2 in game
