Aces wild… yeah yeah pretty corny…
Fuck the Dodgers 2: Electric Boogaloo
Half game back in the wild card.
Mets on a 7 game losing streak.
Don’t give me hope.
When we lost the first game of the series in Milwaukee on Aug 22nd we fell a season low 7 games under .500 and we were 9-25 the last 34 games. During that time we had a stretch where we went 1-15 at Oracle. I think everyone felt the season was over when the Padres dismantled us at Oracle and then again in San Diego right before the series in Milwaukee.
What has happened since then is truly amazing because there were no signs that it would happen at all. They are 14-4 since. They are in the best stretch of offense all year with several guys getting hot at the same time. Devers and Adames are both hitting bombs. Guys like Gilbert and Matos have come up big and how about Bailey the last 5 games or so. Even McCray last night with that missile he threw to 3B which was a huge play. Every guy in the lineup has come through at some point during this stretch. We had 1 hit into the 9th inning last night and we won the game. There was no chance of that happening before this run.
Then on the pitching side Webb and Ray have carried us but Verlander has been just terrific in the 2nd half giving up 0 or 1 ER in 7 of his last 10 starts. We needed this badly with Roupp going down. We also lost our top 4 relievers whether via trade or injury but besides the Walker blown save in St Louis this remade bullpen has been pretty good especially Peguero, Luchessi and Butto – 3 guys who were not on the team early in the season. In fact 6 of the 9 relivers were not on the roster until late June or July
I don’t know what happened but besides April this was a miserable season of baseball until August 22nd and now it has been nothing but fun the last few weeks. Losing Dom Smith hurts but the fact that we actually have a legit shot at making the playoffs is truly remarkable after what we saw in July and most of August.
Keep it going Giants.
