🔴LIVE 🔴Baltimore Orioles vs Toronto Blue Jays /September 12/ Baseball Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25

The show has an AL East matchup. It’s the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays. And now, first pitch coming your way next. [Music] Toronto Blue Jays. So, just about set and on the hill in this one, Kevin Gosman. Well, he’s putting together a really nice season on the mound. Erra in the low threes. Very respectable when you consider guys are looking to do damage. They’re not trying to just walk and hit singles. They’re trying to hit homers and draw walks and score runs. So, when you have a guy that can limit the other team from scoring more than a few runs, that’s really tough to beat game in and game out. Jackson Holiday leading things off and takes a strike. And he swings and lifts one to deep center field and caught on the warning track. Not quite enough behind that one. Time now to take a look at the Orioles lineup put together by manager Brandon Hyde. Singy. This lineup has the benefit of playing behind a great pitching stat. They’ve got a really low ERA. Yeah. And you know, with that said, there’s not as much pressure on the offense, but make no mistake about it, players want to hit the ball hard and they want to score runs. They want to jog around the bases hitting the ball over the fence. So, regardless of how dominant the staff can be, the attitude is we want to go out there and have some fun with the bat. So, we’ll see. One big inning in this one, you know, could be all they need, but you’d like to have multiple big innings. One down, base is empty. Pitch in the dirt and the count is one and one. He swings and fouls one off. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. at the belt and fires. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That’s out number two. That’s that classic wipeout slider below the zone right there. Just nasty. Looks like a fast ball thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it’s just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look silly. Ripped to short and he’ll be safe at first. batting fourth. We all know that that first inning can be a critical one in terms of guys settling in and the tone being set for the game. So, this isn’t what you’re looking for on defense. Two out errors are a lot like two out walks, but maybe even worse because your pitcher did his job to get what should have been the last out of that inning. Emmanuel Rivera stands in now and watches strike one. Foul ball. The O2 goes down swinging for the strikeout. Went back to the fast ball and it was effective and the Orioles leave one. Now the Blue Jays will get their chance. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Rogers Center and on the hill, Cade Povich. And Chris, he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough. Well, you know, this guy wants to be better than that. I mean, the ERA is bloated. He understands that he’s got to put his team in a better position to win ball games. And at this point, you have to forget about your own individual stats and you have to go out there and attack and try to get that W. And if you do that, you’ll look up and most likely that erra will have Oh, this one high and deep way back there. Say goodbye to that one. His 29th of the season. It’s one- nothing. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. Didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. [Applause] Well, he went up there. O looking to do damage. I think he had his sight set on that pitch. He went and got it and circled the bases. [Applause] And next for Toronto, Nathan Lucas clips the corner. Strike one. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. Povich 24 years old and he was a third round pick in 2021. With the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered, he’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters. Here’s the O2. Hit on the ground to short. Throw is high and over his head. And this ball is going to wind up out of play. Short stops have to make some pretty difficult throws across the field sometimes. Might have tried to put a little too much behind that one, but clearly he got under the throw. Didn’t stay on top. Not a good release point and it just took off on him. Runner in scoring position. No outs. And now the first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., he was late there. Strike one. Lucas stands at second with no outs. Next pitch is inside. Two and one. And that one fouled off [Music] [Applause] in the air. Left field. Jackson right there to make the grab. Runner tags at second and the throws offline. Safe at third. Batting fourth. Let’s take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays. This is a veteran le lineup right here. A lot of players with plenty of experience. Singy. Yeah, no doubt about that, Boo. These players have been around the game for a long time and they may not have the flash that they once did, but they’ve got the wisdom to be able to understand different situations, be able to think with the opponent and sometimes in front of the opponent. And you always seem to see a team like this. They come to the ballpark. They know how to get down to business and they understand what the job is at hand. Addison Barger batting with one down. Takes a strike. ripped to third and caught. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. And now for the Jays, Ernie Clement. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. That one finds the corner. That’s strike one. It’s amazing to look up and see 88 miles per hour on that change up. Back in the day, that was a pretty good fast ball, but with high velocities these days, that speed differential is right where it needs to be. [Music] Hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning. Toronto picks up one on this homer. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now in Toronto. Second inning, set to go. Here’s the rookie right fielder, Dylan Beavers. Gossman back to work. That clips a corner. [Music] ground ball to the right side. Steps on first for the out. Batting six, center fielder Colton Cowser. Here’s the center fielder Colton Cowser. good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively, taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Fouled off left side, one out, base is empty. One down, base is empty. Swing and a miss. Struck him out on a splitter. Boo. If you can set up a good two- strike splitter with a fast ball on the previous pitch, it’s going to be so tough to recognize and adjust your swing to get a piece of it. Clearly had him reaching for it right there. Samuel Basalo, the next to hit for the Orioles. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one just missed. This lineup’s going to have to find a way to make him work a little harder out there on the mound. I mean, he is just mowing him down. He’s settling in. You got to make him uncomfortable. Maybe step out of the box, call timeout, do whatever it takes. The one and it’s fouled away. bottom of the zone and a cold strike. So far, all we’ve seen in this at bat are fast balls. Look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count. Two out, space is empty. [Music] fouls it off. Still one and two [Music] now. One missed. Next one misses and it’s three and two. Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Ground ball, Vlad Jr., he takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So they make short work of him there. Now to the bottom of the second, it’s the Blue Jays one and the Orioles nothing. And we’re back. And now the center fielder, Dalton Vo. [Music] There’s a swing and a drive and that gets down into the gap. Now he’ll turn for second and he’s got a leadoff double. Oh, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Off the bat. It was headed for the gap all the way. And as a hitter, you love seeing those as you take your first couple of steps out of the box. You know you got some real estate to run on. And such a good feeling. Nice liner into the gap right there. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Schneider now at the plate. Smashed to the left side. Over to first. That’s one out in the bottom of the second. Batting eight catcher Tyler Heinaman. So up next, Tyler Heineman. been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Cut on and lifted in the air. And that’s a foul ball. [Applause] taps softly third base side. A swinging bunt slings to first in time. [Music] Himenez. He’s already set a new career best for stolen bases in a season, Chris. And that one is downstairs. And that’s ball one. Fast ball for a strike at 95. Hard hit to third. Slings to first and that will end the inning. Blue Jays held in check, but they lead it one to nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And here’s Alex Jackson. And there’s a foul ball. Swing and a hard hit liner up the middle and a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Everything came together for him. I could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. Now it’s the rookie first baseman Kobe Mayo. Pitch misses inside and it’s one and0. Boo. The runner at first needs to be careful right here. He’s dealing with a pickoff artist on the mound. Jackson on at first. Nobody out. And that one is inside. [Music] Late swing. Fouled off. inside just missed on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo and ball for two aboard. He’s making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound, but you know, his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this, but he’s going to have to buckle down right here. First and second, no outs. Holiday will hit next. 0 for one so far. Check swing and he went. That’s strike one. First and second, no outs. We’re here in the top half of inning number three in the air out towards right center. Brings it in. Runner tags at second. He’s safe at third and the tying run is 90 ft away. Good read there at second base to move up to third. Now it’s a lot easier to get that run in with one away. Next to hit, Jeremiah Jackson struck out swinging his first time. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. First and third, one down. Swing and a fly ball. Well struck left field squeezes it. Runner tags for home. He’ll score on the sack fly. We’re tied at one. Oh, we got ourselves a new ball game. Nice job right there at the plate. Sacrifice fly and he gets in the tying run. And next for the Orioles, Gunnar Henderson. He’s 0 for one. And that one hammered. Varo moving back for it. It’s off the top of the wall. Rounds third. Headed for the plate. He scores and they have the lead. Passes third. He wants it all. And he’s out. Cut down. And that ends the inning. So they get a couple of runs on two hits. No errors and no one left on. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Orioles two and the Blue Jays won. Back here at Rogers Center as we go to the last of the third. Here’s George Springer. There’s the strike. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. And there’s the strike [Applause] just off the inside corner. One and two count. Really good take especially with two strikes. [Applause] The next offering misses and the count is two and two. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. Outside low and that’s ball three. [Music] Good job to fight that one off. [Music] That one misses. So, a lead off walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Stepping in, Nathan Lucas. Lucas. [Applause] on the ground. Two ball in there. He’s safe. [Applause] Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. fly to left his first time. That one is absolutely belted. It bangs off the wall. One runs in around third now. A relay to the plate. He’ll score. The Blue Jays take the lead. Three to two. Picks himself up a couple of ribbies. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Addison Barger next up for the Blue Jays. And that one ripped to left and foul ball. [Applause] Oh, one down. And ball one. [Applause] outside and that’s ball two on the ground right side. He takes it on his own. Finally gets the first out here on the grounder. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. It’s early, but you still want to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score. That’s exactly what happened. So, you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. Clement stands in now. Looks at that one inside. One away with a runner at third. turned on but foul wide of third in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate. [Applause] Fouled off. He was late. Runner on to third. One gone. That’s a base hit. Run. Scores. Well done. Drives in the run. Nice line drive to the pole side right there. But he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. And now it’s Daltton Vo. Step off throw to first and he’s back in on a dive. Next pitch misses and a count even one and one. out to center. Cowser snags it and there’s two away. Now batting left fielder Davis Schneider. Davis Schneider next up for the Blue Jays. Grounded out to short in his first trip. in the air center field. Cowser under it and that will end the inning. Three runs on three hits, no errors and a runner left. On to inning number four. It’s the Blue Jays four and the Orioles two. Back now in Toronto, John Shambi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth, Emmanuel Rivera. Let’s go. Come on, Toronto. You can do it. fast for a strike. Rivera in his fourth year, 28 years old and he was born in Puerto Rico. Punch him out. Ca strikes him out for the second time today. Well, he made pretty quick work of him right there. You look at the sequence, everything down at the knees and below. And some guys are good low ball hitters, but right there they clearly had a plan to pound that part of the zone and he wasn’t able to put up much of a fight. So, next they hit for Baltimore. Dylan Beavers grounded out his first time. And ball one to the right fielder outside. [Music] misses with the 200 and he’s fired three straight outside the strike zone. [Music] And that’s in for a strike. And that’s ball four. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. So, a man aboard and into the box for Baltimore. Colton Cowser. His first at bat was a strikeout. Here comes the pitch. Runner breaks for second. Ball outside. Safe at second. And he easily steals the bag. Beavers the runner at second with one away. That one misses and it’s 2 and 0. Oh, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. Here’s a two- one fouled off. Hard hit down the line and left and foul ball just off the inside edge. Gossman throws over back in safe. Really close. 3-2 now and down on strikes he goes. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Just locked him up right there for the second out and that’s an at bat he’s probably going to be thinking about for a little while. Didn’t pull the trigger. Not how you want to go down in an RBI spot. So now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up. Now here’s the Orioles DH. Samuel Basalo grounded out his first time up. Let’s go Blue Jays. Headed towards the corner and a foul ball. [Applause] Man on second, two down. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. [Music] The 1-1 is fouled off. Cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. So, it’s no runs on no hits, no errors, and one left to the bottom of inning number four. Now it’s the Blue Jays four and the Orioles two. And we’re back. And now the switch in catcher, Tyler Heinman. Tyler Heinman pulls that one foul. Well, he hasn’t quite settled in out there. Four runs in three innings. He’s going to have to have some quick one, two, three innings to pitch deep into this ball game. Late on that fast ball. No balls, two strikes. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field and it’s out of play. A foul ball. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Got him. One out. And now Andres Jimenez. He’s over for one. Andre Jimenez. That one. Close rule to ball. Ball one. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. falling behind. Two and one. Swanging a ground ball. Already two gone here in the home fourth. Good fade and sinking action of that change up. got that hitter to roll over. So the lineup flips over and the batter is George Springer. He’s already homerred in this game. Foul. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Next offering is in for a strike. No balls, two strikes. Come on. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Music] Swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can’t forget it. Another homer, his second home run of the game. And they add to their lead. It’s 52. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the booth. [Applause] That’s as big as it gets right there. You take advantage of a mistake. That is an ultimate. Here it is. Watch it. I’m going to jog around the bases. [Applause] So, two away with nobody on. Now, the number two hitter, Nathan Lucas, right down to shoot. It’s 0 and one. [Music] And a curve misses outside. Clearly he hasn’t had it in this game and looks like sooner than later they’re going to have to go to the bullpen. Out to short. Henderson tosses across to first. That ends the inning. It’s a beautiful Springer dinger here. It’s 52. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. And here’s the catcher, Alex Jackson. Come on, Blue Jay. Let’s go. Gosman back to work. And that is out of play. You know, these Orioles just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. Just one extra base hit for them. So, they haven’t exactly been hitting the ball gap to gap or out of the park. That makes it really difficult to generate runs. Ow. And two now. Breaking ball misses down and away. [Music] fights that one away. Still one and two. Just misses the mark outside the zone. fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. That’s about as nasty of a splitter as you’ll come across, especially in terms of movement. I mean, that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment. If he keeps it down, it’s just so tough to put wood on. And next for the Orioles, Kobe Mayo. He reached out a walk his first time. Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Oh, I think the key, I mean, if he can get through one more inning. Anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus. But they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. [Music] One down, base is empty. Hit on the ground to short. Clement. Throw pulls him off the bag and he’s safe. Up next for the That’s a play you expect your shorts stop to make pretty much every time. Pretty routine. Hard to tell if he didn’t get a great grip on it or the mechanics on him just broke down, but that gives this offense an extra out to work with. So, back to the top of the Orioles lineup. Jackson Holiday the next to hit for the Orioles. That missed by a lot. And that’s ball one. Mayo leads off first with one away. Gossman throws over. Well struck left field. That’s going back back some more. Bangs off the wall. Lead runner around second. Headed for the plate. Play at the plate. Got him. Now battle number 8. That really hurts right there. This is no time to gamble. When you’re down in the ball game, you got to be sure if you’re going to advance a runner or even try to score right there that you’re going to be safe. Just a poor decision. Now the left fielder Jeremiah Jackson that missed inside and that is ball one. Two outs and a runner at third. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And that’s downstairs and outside. Highf fly ball. Pretty well struck out towards right center. That’s back. Gone. That one felt good. It’s his sixth home run of the season. It’s 54. That’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap. And you know, there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that. And probably just as many who don’t have the approach either. He let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here. And here is Gunnar Henderson. Swings through that one. 0 and one. A short stop. Takes a ball. [Music] lined into left center. Base hit. Now he turns and heads for second. The throw in and he’s out. Cut down and that ends the inning. [Applause] back here at Rogers Center. And here’s the first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. That’s in there. Strike one. They’ll sing you. This is a guy that grew up in big league clubouses. And it’s something that you see throughout the game. sons whose fathers also played the majors. That one ripped and foul ball. Yeah. And beyond that, all the other men in those clubouses that sort of take you under their wing as a son or nephew and show you some of the tricks of the trade. It’s just invaluable that type of experience. Foul ball still a one and two count [Music] up the middle jumps, throws, got him. Nice play. Now batting third base. Brandon Hyde out of the dugout now and he’s ready to make a move to the bullpen. Cade Povich gives way and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. The pitcher on here, Kyle Bradish. He has a great slider with tons of movement. Now the third baseman, Addison Barger. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. And first off, Rang is fouled off. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. Base is empty, one away. Last half of inning number five. Let’s do it. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Lifted in the air right field. Beavers under this one. Puts it away for the out. Two away now. Maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit. Couldn’t quite barrel it up enough to really drive it. Two outs. Base is empty. And now Ernie Clement. Chris baseball today. So many strikeouts. And they are available to pitchers. But this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. Just miss. Yeah. His swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits inside just missed. Singi, one of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you think of that as plus value? Absolutely. If he’s doing damage now, if he’s rolling over and and grounding out, then it’s a different story. But yeah, if he can put the ball in the gaps or over the fence, 100%. [Music] That’s towards center. Cowser sizing this one up and makes the play and that’s out number three. So no runs, no hits, no errors and no one left. Five innings complete. It’s the Blue Jays five and the O’s four. Back now in Toronto. Top of the sixth inning. Here’s the third baseman. Emmanuel Rivera. Movement in the Blue Jays bullpen. Louis Varon getting loose out there. Little afander also throwing. Come on, Toronto. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Chases in the dirt. Slider there. Hinaman gathers, throws to first in time to get him. One away in the strikeout. Oh, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone. And then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early. And a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Kevin Gosman makes way and he had to battle. Nothing came easy in this start, but he leaves with the lead. New arm when we get back. Shane Bieber on the pitch out of the pen here. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So, this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Dylan Beavers the next to hit for the Orioles. That’s off the inside corner. One and0. [Music] Swinging a foul out of play. [Music] One down, base is empty. That one sizzling on its way through to the outfield. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it right on time, good balanced approach, and just blasted it through the infield. And now, let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. Colton Cowser the next to hit for the Orioles. Smash to center way back and you can forget it. Home run. And they add a pair. It’s 65. He ambushed him right there, Siggy. Yeah, swinging on that first pitch. And I think losing one over the fence is exactly what he had in mind as well. Change up in the zone is a hitter’s dream. It’s a BP fast ball, but you’re playing in real time. Most times the pitcher’s asking for a new baseball just like right there. And next is the designated hitter Samuel Basalo. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. There’s the strike of the knees. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Still only one out here in the inning. Breaking ball inside. Good now. Two balls and two strikes in the air to left center. Schneider. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Now batting catcher Alex. Now here is Alex Jackson. Ball one there. [Music] That’s outside and now two and 0. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Two and another ball. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. And now the first baseman, Kobe Mayo. And that clips the inside corner. [Applause] Yeah, that’s too high. Jackson off of first with two away. And that one fouled off. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. That’s inside. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. Jackson Holiday next to bat for Baltimore. So now two on and two outs. Not what he wanted to do right there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive. Puts a runner into scoring position and a chance for this offense to add on to their lead. Jackson Holiday the next to hit for the Orioles. One for three. Swung on. Belted that one back there. hits the fence. One runs in. Mayo rounds third headed for the plate. The relay tag. Not in time. Safe. And they lead by three. Oh, that’s a big at bat coming through in the clutch to drive in a pair. So close to blasting that one out of here the other way. But that’s very tough to do when you take on the outfield gap like that. Beautiful swing though. Let the ball get a little deep and drove it to the opposite field. Here comes the manager out of the Blue Jays dugout and he will make a move to the pen. That’s it for Shane Bieber. It’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Tommy N gets the ball now. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. So runner at second, two down. Jeremiah Jackson, the next to hit for the Orioles. He’s already homerred here in this one. Gets the slider in there for a strike. Two outs and one in scoring position. And that drops in for a strike. Chris, you look at it. These are the spots where guys can come on, pitch well, instill some confidence in the manager, and all of a sudden they’re pitching higher leverage spots of the postseason. Well, in this final month, I mean, this Oh, that’s a strikeout and that’ll do it for the inning. So, they move out in front after a fourrun outburst. 678 do in the bottom of the sixth. It’s the Orioles eight and the Blue Jays five. And we’re back. Bottom of the six. Here’s the center fielder, Dalton Vo. Little bit low movement in the Orioles bullpen. Number 86 is up and throwing for Brandon Hyde. Duben getting loose as well. The 10. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. And a foul ball makes the count two and one. Looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, want to stay up the middle that way. If you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. If you’re a little late, opposite field knock. And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you’d have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. [Applause] Got him swinging. [Music] And here is Davis Schneider for two in this one. Davis Schneider. [Music] And there’s the strike. He’s a bad ball hitter. So even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone, he still might beat you. Not an easy out by any means. Look out. And it hit him. Well, that definitely didn’t come out of his hand the way that he was intending it to. And the release point was a little bit off as well. Now, this guy’s definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Heinaman lays off down low as he digs in for the third time. Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So that’s a good take by him on the ground to the left and foul ball. Schneider the runner at first with one gone in the inning. That one not close. Three and one now. [Music] Let’s go. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. They get it in quickly. So, first and second now, one out. I’m sure he feels really good about that one. wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. Two on, one out. So, up next for Toronto, Andres Jimenez. Late swing, fouled to the left. just missed. Just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike, 02 count instead. It’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. And a count one and two. And that’s outside. [Music] Battling here as he fouls it away with the tying run at the plate here in the bottom of the sixth. [Applause] Swinging a drive deep right field. That’s back there. Gone straight into the visitors bullpen. He circles the bases. It’s his eighth home run of the year. It’s 88. Listen to these fans. This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. [Applause] Boo. I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall, though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Now, it’s going to be George Springer. First pitch misses. And that one is lifted in the air. Beavers on the move. Out number two. Now batting right fielder Nathan Lucas. Now it’s the right fielder Nathan Lucas. Breaking ball in there for a strike. That’s off the mark. And now it’s even one and one. [Music] This one lifted in the air left field and makes the grab and that’s the third out. Threerun shot for the Jays this inning. All even now at eight apiece. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Top of inning number seven leading off Gunnar Henderson. Nance a 66 righty 235 lbs and they went out and made a trade for him last season. The pitch swing and a ball lifted in the air left field pretty well struck and it hits the fence. Throws to second in safely with a leadoff double. Go ahead runs in scoring position. Well, that’s how you respond. Leadoff man comes up, gets into scoring position. Now, there are several ways that they can get this run across. So, now the Orioles cleanup hitter, Emmanuel Rivera, 0 for three with three strikeouts. And there’s a ball. As a pitcher, you know, the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run. So, you really have to execute on the mount. That’s in there. And it’s one and one. Slice the other way and foul. Nance sets, fires, and just misses with that one. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Smoked on the ground to second. Fires over to Guerrero. That’s the first out in the top of the seventh. Not a bad outcome in that spot. The runner moves up to third and now they have a chance to drive in the go-ahead run. It’s not a knock, but at the end of the day, it’s a good at bat. And now the right fielder, Dylan Beavers. one. Definitely a strikeout situation right here. Lots of ways for that go-ahead run to score if the ball’s put in play. Just missed. And that one fouled off with a go ahead run at third here in the top half of inning number seven. Ground ball left side. Fires across the diamond. That’s it out. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. And now the center fielder, Colton Cowser. We just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap. He’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots. Just off the inside edge. Two down. Go ahead run in scoring position. Hard ground ball for a base knock. In comes a runner from third and it’s an RBI single and they take the lead in the seventh. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of this struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Two outs, runner on first. And now the DH Samuel Basalo 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Strike on the outside. Go and one. Right through there for a strike. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. Going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. that one the other way and a base hit right there. And now first and second with two outs. Couple of singles back to back. That can be a dangerous pitch if you don’t get it inside enough because as a hitter, you see it coming across the plate the whole way. No problem handling it and putting a good swing on it that time. First and second, two outs. Jackson getting ready to hit. at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. [Applause] Two aboard, two outs. Next offering is downstairs. rolled softly, but that goes foul. And now it’s one and two. Getty dodges that fast ball. [Music] Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly, he’s happy with those results. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, Shawn Dubin. Well, he struggled quite a bit, so this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit per inning pitch so far this season. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Now, if you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. Yeah, the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Well, they say it’s the best pitch in baseball. Strike one. You get ahead on a good hitter as well. Gives you a little bit more confidence to move through the at bat. [Music] [Music] and it stays fair. Man, he just absolutely turned on that one. Ripped it down the line. Nice job of staying in his mechanics. No outs. Runner at first. Now the Toronto four-hole hitter, Addison Barger. 0 for three in this one. Curve ball drops in for a strike. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position. swing and a tapper that rolls fouled with the go ahead run at the plate here. The bottom of the seventh just missed the inside corner. It’s a ball in two strikes. [Applause] Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Let’s go. And look out as that one ran in and got him. He had him one two and he ends up hitting him with a pitch. So the tying run in scoring position now and the batter will be the shorts stop Ernie Clement. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season. So they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. And a pop off right side foul territory. One away. That was a good hard fast ball with some nice ride up in the zone right there. Hitter looked like he was on it, but I think that velocity at the end just beat him instead of a line drive or something. and hit deep. It’s a pop up and an easy out for the defense. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Shawn Duben will depart and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. So, a new arm out of the bullpen for the Orioles. Keegan Aken. Well, he’s been a bit of a wild card out there in terms of throwing strikes. He’s definitely struggled with free passes this year. Dalton Vo next up for the Blue Jays. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. And what you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate to try to hit the ball over the shorts stop’s head. First pitch just misses at the dish. Looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play. [Music] swing and a ball driven out to center. That’s back. Long gone. [Applause] He circles the bases. His 19th home run of the year. It’s 119. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop. And they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one, Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. [Applause] [Applause] Well, he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time. Took a direct path to the ball, excellent extension and just drove it out of here. Nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that. And now Davis Schneider. First offering and it just misses. right through there for a strike. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. That one is upstairs. [Music] [Applause] [Music] And he walked him. Now batting. One down. Tyler Heinman the next to hit. Heinman. Here’s the pitch. Runner goes, grounds one to short. Henderson sends it across to first. No chance at the double play with the runner in motion. Andres Jimenez now at the plate. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it, but pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris. It’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Henderson grabs it on the run. But the biggest swing of the inning comes right here. A three-run homer. We look ahead to inning number eight. You’re dialed into the show. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Louis Varlin. And he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. Lou Kobe Mayo digs in Baltimore. First base Kobe Mayo. Come on, Blue Jay. Let’s go. And that is in for a strike. 0 and one. Toronto’s bullpen with some action. Jeff Hoffman, the closer, is getting ready and perhaps looking at a long save opportunity here. Little also throwing. Next offering is in for a strike. And that skips in the dirt. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch. Ah, that hit him and the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. So, back to the top of the order. So, next to hit for Baltimore, Jackson Holiday drove it off the wall last time. Just missed out on a home run. That one missed. Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really This one swung on and hit well way back there onto the track and he makes the catch. As good as he’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand, you cannot hang a breaking ball right there. Lucky it stayed in the ballpark. And into the box for Baltimore. Jeremiah Jackson. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. Slap the other way. Foul with the tying run at the plate. And we’re in the top of the eighth. And fouled off. swings and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strike out. Gunnar Henderson the next to hit for the Orioles. He’s got a single, a double, and a triple in this game. A home run gets him the cycle. There’s the strike. Late in the game, everyone gets a little tighter. Way to get ahead on a really good hitter right there. Var with a move to first and he’s back in there. [Music] Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Looking very settled on the mound here in the eighth. One more out. They’ll probably hand it off to their closer for the ninth with at least a two-run lead. Tying run at the plate. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. And down on strikes. Third out. So no runs on no hits, no errors, and one man left. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. Jay’s 11 and the Orioles nine. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Tyler Wells. This is his third time out this year. And it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate. ated hitter George Springer. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Swing and a miss. Chased it out of the zone. Just a bit late on that 01 breaking ball. 02 hole. Now he’s going to have to shorten up, tighten things up if he’s going to have a good at bat. Next offering is down low. One more. Let’s go. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. fights it off. He’ll see another. This one smoked could be trouble. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. Love how he became a really tough out with two strikes right there. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did and he did it perfectly. Now the number two hitter Nathan Lucas outside with a breaking ball. Springer leads off second with nobody out. Whacked out to center field. That’s well struck. That one carrying, nabs it. Runner tags at second and he’s in safely at third with one out. Now batting first base Vladimir Guerrero and next for Toronto Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Singy he’s a guy that covers both sides of the plate about as well as anyone in the sport. How difficult is that to do? Well, just look at the back of my bubblegum card. You’ll see how hard it is. These guys are great, man. They have the ability to look out there, but also to be able to turn on the inside pitch. Those that can really sharpen things on the outer half, those are the ones that become elite. Activity in the bullpen for Baltimore. Kate Stout appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Come on. This one in the dirt and well done to keep it close. Let’s go. That misses now. One and two. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. And that one is lifted in the air. Beavers under it. Drops into the glove. Runner tagging from third. He’s in to score on the sack fly. 129 is our score. Sometimes all you got to do is your job and don’t over complicate things. Just keep it simple. Runner at third, less than two outs. Put the ball in play and a nice job with the sack fly. Two down, base is empty. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Addison Barger. That one’s in there. Strike one. He didn’t want to give up that run, but he did. Got the fly ball. Sackf fly out. Now it’s time to attack these other guys. Get your team back in the dugout. Come on. One and one. Just missed. Two and one the count now. He hasn’t seen a fast ball yet, but you’ve got to be ready to hit one because you doubt the pitcher wants this to go to a 3-1 count. The 2-1 popped up. Henderson makes the catch and that is that. So it’s one run on one base hit, no errors and no one left. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Blue Jays 12 and the Orioles nine. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Sir Anthony Dominguez. And I can’t imagine any save is an easy one. You’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can. So it’s always high stress. Let’s see what he’s got here to try and close it out. Here’s the Orio cleanup hitter. Emmanuel Rivera 0 for four with three strikeouts and he’s grounded out. Rivera started after it, tried to hold up. Now a look to first and he held back according to Larry Bullard. In this situation, you expect the batters to be a little more patient, possibly take until they get a strike. With that, you don’t want to miss your opportunity to get ahead early in the count. He didn’t right there. swing and a chopper out to short. Zips it across. Now one gone in the ninth. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. Now it’s the right fielder, Dylan Beavers. just off the inside edge. He never moved because he never had time to with that kind of velocity. You’d prefer that pitcher work away. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even movement in the Blue Jays bullpen. Jeff Hoffman, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. Baraki getting cranked up as well. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. [Applause] Got him swinging. And the Orioles down to their final out. Well, a wellthrown splitter is going to do exactly that. Get you off balance thinking it’s a fast ball. Very similar to a change up, but often times a split’s going to have even more downward movement with more velocity. Good pitch, Cowser in the box now. No balls in a strike. He must have been looking for something else because he gave up on that pitch a little early. It was right down Main Street. Probably not going to see a better pitch to hit in this at bat. [Music] The Orioles down to their final strike. [Applause] It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. When he elevates, hitters aren’t touched it. Two down. Nobody on fouls it off. Still one and two. [Music] swing and a miss. Struck him out and that is the ball game. These hitters had the long ball working for him today. Four home runs had a lot to do with them coming out on top. 129 at the end of this one for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shabi saying so long. Nothing.
