Anyone recognise these two gamelogs from 2023?
Sam Bachman made these two bullpen appearances, he was brought in for the 6th inning on July 1st against the DBacks, 34 pitch outing and gave up the lead, sure whatever long innings happen sometimes.
Then he was brought in on the 3rd against the Padres, midway through the 7th after Tucker Davidson (lol) had got one out and walked two batters. He took 15 pitches to get out of the inning in a 9-3 losing ballgame. That's probably him done for the game right? Instead they had him complete the 8th inning to the tune of 29 extra pitches, another long inning in a very short span. Baffling decision considering only three relievers were used the day before.
He did not pitch again that season, was placed on the IL with right shoulder inflammation and needed surgery. Poor guy has had to deal with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome now too.
With how hard relievers go on every pitch, I'm pretty okay with maybe only the designated long relief guy who was available going multi innings tonight.
