Anthony rizzo before the game coming back to Wrigley Field, officially retiring a cub signing autographs for fans taking pictures and it is a star studded event. You have got Tom Ricketts, Eddie Vedder, Crane Kenny Ryan Dempster, Cindy Crawford, Jed Hoyer and Jason Heyward. All coming back for the ceremony here today as we celebrate the legacy really of Anthony Rizzo. The career he had ladies and gentlemen, he played 10 memorable seasons with the Chicago Cubs. During that time, he earned four globe Awards, a silver slugger, a platinum glove, the prestigious Roberto Clemente award and was selected to three all star games. He hit 242 home runs during his cubs tenure ranking sixth in franchise history making the final out during game seven of the 2016 World Series. He helped cement the Chicago Cubs as world series champions for the first time in over a century off the field. His incredible work through his foundation in support of cancer , speaks volumes to the kind of person he is leaving a lasting impact far beyond the game. This past Wednesday. He officially announced his retirement as a Chicago Cub and now begins a new chapter as a team ambassadors. Welcome back. First baseman number 44 Anthony Anthony Rizzo, the jersey he is wearing is signed by all of the patients he visited over the years and all the visit he made to learn children’s hospital. So the kids who are battling cancer, they have signed that jersey and he is remembering them on today. So as much as we are celebrating the career on the field of Anthony rizzo, part of what he did off the field, really, it’s just as big what he did on the look at the season for right about this. The third inning, second most on the team. Nobody saw that coming way back in March. Simpson leads off and up the middle, it goes over the back its second through into center field, Chandler is aboard. So Simpson gets to second base on the ground out by and Diaz Laing and a miss struck him out and gets the punch out. Junior the RB I leader in the air shallow center, Pete Crow Armstrong has it. And Ray pitches around the leadoff single, Tony’s in the House. The kids around them are loving it. Cubs will come up to hit in the bottom of the first Rasmussen out there consistently ahead of hitters consistently. And that’s why he puts up these kind of numbers his 29th start. He’s 10 to 5 with a 26, a two box Rizzo on the jumbo with off the outside edge and he works a walk really nice plate appearance. Rizzo loves it. Here’s Carson Kelly right hand batting catcher and a swing and Miss right there 97 as he threw that one by Pete Crow Armstrong down two outs and a swing and Miss, he went right back to the old 98 up right there by Bob Seymour start at first base swing and a Miss Seymour down on strikes. We talked about his need to neutralize the left hand bats here. This time, it’s a changeup with LAU. It was a split finger pitch and splitter was a real good weapon for him last time out against the Nets in a base hit for Palacios. Here’s the throw to first got it. Picks off Richie Palacios, another pick off by a cub pitcher. Colin Ray picks off Richie Palacios. Well, this isn’t a one time thing. Anthony has signed on as an ambassador so he’ll be around and the year well struck left field by s first big league homer MP with the homer. The guy right behind. Anthony’s got the baseball amazing first major league homer for Moises by Aeros and Anthony Rizzo almost caught it. Oh, so amazing rookies Cubs and a Aeros was his first big league home run. What a moment, you know, in real time, I, I saw Liz Jersey trying to make the play on it. I thought, could it be? Oh, where he had it? He literally hit it right to him. That was hit right at him. Talk about a called shot, huh? He said that’s why I’m retired. I read his lips there. Oh my God. Two outs. And here’s one of the other rookies in case up outside corner strike three called to Casey and I don’t think he Ryan Blakeney recognize it was strike three just made like the single strike call. Arson Williams leads it off for the rays. Williams swings and it’s a high fly ball deep right center field going back. Crow and Casey and Casey makes the grab tripping over Pete Pro Armstrong right along the track near the wall to the left of the garage door in right center field is Casey. OK, an unbelievable grab by the right fielder with crow Armstrong crisscrossing next to him and Casey is up, throws the ball back to the infield and gets a standing ovation from the crowd here at Wrigley Fiducia at the plate in there. Good pitch. 93 right over the outside corner and to in there standing with an opposite field. Two base hit his team leading 28th of the year. That was a rocket the other way. Two, two swing and a miss struck him out. Anthony Rizzo will join us in the booth when we come back. It’s great to be here. What an amazing experience. I feel like I’ve never been here before. I mean, there’s an element of it , right. You’re seeing the park from a vantage point with all the people in it that you’re usually down there. Yeah. When, when we had Covid 19 it was empty stadium. I made sure to go around and get the vantage point that everyone gets and, but a packed House and just to be able to experience this with the wind blowing out. It’s a, it’s, it’s amazing. Yes, we actually have some of those picks of you just wandering out into the bleachers and some great photos. You just want to see what it was like. Right. Yeah, I mean, I try to appreciate every, all the highs , all the lows. So every game I would take a 5 to 10 seconds and just pinch myself that where I am for some gratitude and presence and uh now to be out there surrounded by all my loved ones, friends and family, it’s just, it really is an incredible ending to a to a long career, gratitude and presence. I can get down with that. Yeah, I mean, it’s easy to lose perspective in life and, and anyone in life honestly and Then especially in baseball with, with such a game of failure. So to be able to enjoy every single moment of it was, was not easy, but it was amazing. Riz. Speaking of failure, why didn’t you catch the ball in left field? Because I’m retired. Everyone’s, everyone’s ragging on me for the uh I can’t look at this. Are you kidding me? I should have dropped the beer. I didn’t even have a beer in my hand. I had my phone. Um, everyone was ragging me for the first pitch too. I’m like, I’m retired. Like, I don’t need to do this anymore. I saw you mouth. That’s why I’m retired. He hit it right to you. Which is the part. That’s incredible. All, no, is that I know I already told Danny, I want a picture with him because I threw the ball back. It’s his first home run. So I better get some bat or something. You want to get something that I want. Something signed. This is my first Cubs game. I want to get a sticker and all of it. That is too good. He had a strike out there from, from PC. Yeah, that, so I said, I think he’s getting the ball back. He had to, what a what a great moment for all of us. His first home run is incredible. What was it like in terms of the , the interaction with Ian Hat? Because he, you meant so much to him um as a, as a mentor, as a friend and he acknowledged you out there. And Then also when he came up to the plate, it’s incredible. Him and Nikko are really the only two left Tommy Hot and some of the staff. But Happer came up in 17 and we had so many great moments together and for him to throw me the ball. It, it was awesome to be out there seeing him seeing his nice , his nice butt from behind. You know, it’s, uh, he probably should have been the big dumper before the big dumper. Yeah, he’s, he’s, he’s got a big dumper that’s for sure. Line drive make it an eight game hitting streak for Nico under, takes off. He go to second and he’s in with a stolen base and for Horner, it’s number 27 right? So the, the jersey that you’re wearing is signed by patients, correct? All the, all the, all the kids that we used to visit when we were here, we would go and me and Jeff mcgee who used to be part of the, the organization would go in and have the kids sign it for us because that just means more to me, it really uplifted us by seeing them and uplifting them and there’s, and the auction that’s going on right now. Basically, you can go to a Rizzo foundation.org. Is that right? And Then, uh, you go online, you bid that. Auctions are great. I know the golf one is, is pretty, uh, pretty high right now, but I’m looking forward to it. The, uh, the foundation has done great work to help families and I’m so grateful for anyone who donates anything they have. The generosity’s been now, they’re going to intentionally walk moises by Asters and Dansby Swanson will dig in hits that one. Towards the left field corner and it will touch down and hit up against the wall. Estero is going to score after Horner to and delivers and it’s 3 to 0 team that when they’re right, they touch the plate a lot fun to watch. They’re exciting. They don’t strike out a lot. They have really good at bats. They have a great veteran presence. They have good pitching, they have good enough pitching to do it. We got to let you go. We’re told we have to let you go. We really look forward to seeing you. Congratulations on an amazing career. We love you. Thank you. Thank you everyone for all the love. Appreciate it. Fifth inning under way, Seymour leading off fly ball straight away, center field more towards left handed. Alice Carl Armstrong goes back onto the warning check turn and looked it over his head and bounces far back to center field. Seymour around second heads to third. He will be held up with his first big league triple. It looked like PC A was out there camped and Then somehow that ball gets over his head. Wind may be blown out that way a little bit. I don’t know that balls up there , an awful look at him drifting like he’s got a bead, got a bead , got a bead and Then he turns around, it hits right behind him. That’s that very, very strange. Here’s Richie Palacios swing slow ground ball to get a run home charging at second is Horner under hands to first Palacios retired but see more scores of the Rays get a run. They’re down 3 to 1. Colin working on a good ball game leading 3 to 1/6 inning. Swinging a line drive in the right center field that gets down for a base hit. And Yandy Diaz starts the sixth inning with a clean single to right and now the tying run comes to the plate in Brandon Lowe gone after the first pitch and he drills it into right center field and that’s at the foot of the wall in and out of the Ivy. Here comes Yandi around third. He’s going to score in the second goes Brandon with a double and scores all the way from first and now they’re down by only one, the potential tying run down at second base. And I think craig Council is going to make a pitching change right about now. He will, it is Rays game to win. The bullpen has been outstanding for the Cubs of late Drew Pomeranz. The tall left hander is on the mound now and the Rays will go on to their bench and put up Jake man to hit for Bob Seymour. There it is a base punched into center here comes laue around third throws not going to be in time and Magu comes through down in the count and this game is tied at three. So 1st and 3rd one out. You have Yandy Diaz at the plate swing and a miss runner takes off for second and it’s a stolen base. They get the strikeout. Now, apparently they’re going to send Simpson back to first did Diaz into fear with the catcher Kelly on his attempted throw to second. He sure did on the Zack I just saw at the plate popped up right side and gets out of the jam. Great work by Kayla, our seventh inning stretch brought to you by Budweiser. This bugs for you, Anthony rizzo , Cindy Crawford um ball game. So Peanuts and that win 41, three strikes. There’s two away back to the top of the order. And Michael Busch Busch swings and it’s a high fly ball deep left center field, going back at the wall, take the opposite field, left center Michael Bs three over the Bush with a point as he rounds third and comes home home run number 27 on the year for Bush. And here’s Junior Camba hits this one back into deep center field. C Armstrong goes back and that one is gone straight away center disappearing over the 400 ft marker. That’s number 43 for Junior CBA. And the Rays have tied the game again. It’s 44 Keller automatic since the Ulster break. No runs, four hits 21 plus innings. So Neil saying his due as nick Fortes doubled his last time throws fly ball, well, hit it to left field and Nick Fortes sends it to the bleacher. Bums a home run in the ninth in the race, take a 54 lead and as it turns out, brad Keller is human hunger breaking ball and boy did Nick Fortes crush that and we’ll see if Pete Fairbanks here can close it out inside ball four. Dance be aboard on five high five and alex Willie Castro, he goes and the pitch is dropped behind the plate stolen base and the tying run is in the scoring position and that one gets all the way to the backstop. It’s ball four. Swanson will move up to third on a wild pitch and now the Cubs have the tying run 90 ft away and the winning runs at first, it goes without, it is extremely difficult with a man at third. Nobody out to prevent that man from scoring. You need ground balls right at infielder and a ground ball to third plays. Got to be at the plate running Swanson back and he gets the tag there. And so with one out there will be runners at 1st and 2nd and it’s a boy, I’ll tell you that was right there on the corner. You couldn’t make a better pitch than that. 22 on the appeal. Marvin Hudson says that’s a strike two gone Marvin Hudson the third base um player with the call looked like he went. Riz is not buying it. But how about this? Here comes Ian hat a chance to tie or perhaps win the ball game for the Cubs in the 02, a swing and Miss and they’re going to go to first and he got him to end this game. There was no contact on that swing. Fortes located that ball picked it up and went down to first to complete the swing and Miss strikeout and preserve this victory for the Rays. And what a way to end this game.

  1. 15:05… How does Porter Hodge not know that you don't have to throw that good of a pitch on an 0-2 count to a player with 42 HR? He throws him a fastball right down the middle. What is he thinking? UNBELIEVABLE 👎

  2. Dansby what were you thinking?? If it gets by it’s an easy score, if not then be on 3rd so you’re not out.
Still an amazing game with Rizzo being there and the cool things that took place.
    We love you, Rizzo!

  3. Rizzo will always be a Cub good game Cubs we are out of playoff contention you guys still have a chance play hard and make the playoffs good luck from a Ray's fan 👍 😊

  4. I tuned in for MLB highlights not a tribute to a retired player. That should be a different video-respect, but this is ridiculous.. I want my money back.. also I'm just putting this out there that is the whitest crowd I've ever seen, is there any people of color in chicago?

  5. I’m only recently following baseball since I retired. I like watching highlights, but I’ve never heard of Rizzo. They sure talked about him a lot, but that home run ball right to him is right out of The Twilight Zone.
