MLB Network [BREAKING NEWS] Milwaukee Brewers clinch playoff berth with walk-off win over Cardinals
So to be honest, just trying to be on base, you know, so like be a hero is secondary, but my goal was like so my goal was to be on base just like uh give the chance to my team to win. So like that’s awesome, you know. a walk up here. You know, always is this awesome, something you dream when you are a kid. So, it’s better in front. So, thank you for the support. Andrew, you guys have played a lot of games like this when you were down 6-1, when you were down 74 in the night. What did you think? What Murphy said, we play by outs, you know? So, like we play out by out, inning by inning. So, I think that’s our goal. I’m trying to be better every day, trying to get the chance my the team to win. I don’t I don’t try to be a hero. I just want to win and like that’s all. If you had lost this game, even though you had clinched, would it have not been as good a celebration? Yeah, it’s better winning for sure. 100%. Man, that’s uh I describe it as Brewers baseball, man. We we just take it one rep at a at a time, one pitch at a time. uh try to keep the line moving and we’re able to do it in two straight innings. So, a lot of fun. What was it like knowing you had clinched coming onto the field and then falling behind like that? Yeah, honestly, I’m not sure we were really thinking about the, you know, clinching as much as just trying to win the night. And that’s been our brand of ball all year is even if we go down early, just take it at bat by bat. Uh keep grinding it out and see what happens. What about Andrew’s hit? That was a heck of an at bat. What did you see? Huge at bat. I mean, I I knew he was going to come through there because he was he was spoiling all his best pitches. So, I had a pretty good angle from it at second, too. So, a lot of confidence there. You know, no one better to come through in that situation than Mona. The start for Jacob Miserowski. We’ll talk about the playoffs being clinched, but holy cow, what a roller coaster performance tonight for Milwaukee over the Cardinals. a comeback victory. Andrew Monisterio walking things off. You got to talk about the bats off the bench. You got to talk about the clutch hitting from this team and the clutch pitching as well. So, we’ll dive into all of that. And of course, the Brewers are in the postseason. The Brewers beat the Cardinals. They got the come from behind win. Your thoughts, your reactions, and of course, your celebrations are all welcomed this evening on the Lockdown Brewers postcast. Let’s begin quickly. And I say quickly, there was 17 runs scored. So, we’re going to kind of trim this down a little bit into the scoring summary brought to you tonight by Neutrifall and FanDuel. And I want to pick things up uh really kind of sort of in the middle of this game when the game is sort of in the sixth inning. The Brewers falling behind early in this one. Sunny Gray getting the start for the Cardinals, shutting the Brewers down early and often in this one, striking out his uh four of his first six batters he faced for the Cardinals. That was Jacob Msarowski on the other side of the mound for the Brewers. He would surrender uh three runs in the first three innings in this one and it was a little bit of a struggle for Jacob Msarowski. A little bit all over the place. Couple of home runs, something we’re not used to with him, but it was six to one heading into the bottom of the sixth inning for the Brewers as they were down five runs in this one. They would plate a run in the sixth. They would plate two runs in the eighth and that would take us uh to the bottom half of the eighth inning when the Brewers were down again, falling behind a little bit in this one, down a few runs. That takes us to the uh the eighth inning when when things just kind of started to feel like it was starting to trend in the right direction uh for the Brewers. Contrarus would have a sacrifice fly that would get a run across. Christian Yelich would ground out to short that would get a run across. That would make things uh 6-4 for the Brewers. The Cardinals on the top half of the ninth would plate a run. So now you’re looking at a 7-4 deficit entering the bottom half of the ninth inning. Down three runs in the Brewers with just three outs left in this game. And that ladies and gentlemen and then boom, a big hit. They had had a big hit all game guys going into that. They scored three four runs off of outs. Three of them were sack flies to center field. One of the other run was a uh fieldielder’s choice off the bat of Christian Yelich. Like they haven’t they hadn’t didn’t have that big hit until they needed that big hit. And oh by the way, let’s not bury the lead the lead this evening. The Brewers clinch a playoff spot as we mentioned. Seventh uh clinched playoff spot in the last eight years for our Brewers. The golden age of Brewers baseball. We’ll discuss that. We’ll get to your thoughts, your reactions on a 9 to8 come from behind victory, their 91st of the year. And oh by the way, the Cubs lose this evening. So a 6 and a halfame lead in the NL Central division, all but wrapped up in the NL Central just uh playing the rest of these games here. But the other important thing is the Phillies keep winning. So the Brewers still holding firm in the top spot in the National League. I believe it’s two games for that top spot in the National League. So that’s another big win for the Brewers. they can go for the uh for the sweep tomorrow. The Brewers coming from behind and getting the 9-8 victory over the Cardinals. This game really had seen about everything you could imagine. Some great defense, some not so great defense, some great hitting, some timely hitting, some not so great hitting, some not so great timely hitting, some good pitching. It’s seen a little bit of everything, but most importantly, the Brewers getting the victory as we have mentioned, the Phillies winning this evening. So, you’re maintaining pace throughout that number one seed in the National League. And of course, the Cubs, as we mentioned, also losing. So, you get six and a half games up on the Cubs in the National League Central Division. The Brewers, as we have mentioned, clinching a playoff spot this evening, actually before the game even uh had its first pitch, their seventh playoff birth in their last eight season. So, congratulations to our Brewers as they are getting ready for more October baseball. Let’s get into it. Your locked on Brewers postcast player of the game in a nine toweight win. This is the locked player of the game. Guys, you know the rule, right? This is the Brewers 11th walk-off win this season. The most in baseball, I should add. Their 11th walk-off victory. The rules on the lockdown Brewers postcast is if you walk it off, you’re gonna get player of the game. So, congratulations to Andrew Monasterio, who by the way didn’t really play much in this one until, you guessed it, they really really needed him in the 10th inning. And Andrew Monisterio coming through for the Brewers, walking it off. I do got to give it up though. Uh, we do have an honorable mention to Caleb Durban because it was a painful, you know, sacrifice there in the ninth inning, I guess is the right term, where he got the hit by pitch. Uh, I believe it was in his upper back, uh, maybe rib area, but he he gets hit by the pitch in the ninth. He eventually scores later in the ninth. kind of gets that that inning started by that with that hit by pitch and scoring, but then able to tie it in the in the in the top of the tenth inning or excuse me in the bottom of the tenth inning with the uh this the double to uh left center field Caleb Durban there to kind of get that game uh you know really really interesting there in the 10th inning. Then of course Andrew Monasterio walking it off. So if you walk it off you’re going to get the honors. Congratulations to Andrew Monister. And again I there’s so much I love about that. There’s so much I love about Andrew Monisterio, not only winning the game for the Brewers, not only getting the honors here on the locked on Brewers postcast, but what it means for a guy that sat on the bench all game long, has kind of been in and out of the lineup, right? We saw a lot of of uh Mona when Joey Ortiz was on the IIL and he filled in tremendously. And then he leaves that role and sits on the bench and is kind of in and out and then has an opportunity in the tenth inning, the bottom of the 10th inning. everybody. A soldout crowd at American Family Field on their feet chanting his name, cheering as loud as they can. Another sellout crowd and he answers and he delivers. And that’s the epitome of what Brewer baseball is all about. You get goosebumps when you sit here and you talk about it with this guy. This is the golden age of Brewers baseball. It’s the seventh playoff birth in the last eight years. Andrew Monisterio delivering the big hit in the bottom of the 10th inning with a win over a divisional rival. That’s what Brewer baseball is all about. Not get not an everyday starter. Not an every household name. That’s Brewer Baseball. Andrew Monisterio, congratulations. A fantastic performance delivering it when this team needed you the most and just a fantastic win overall. And once again, a fantastic season thus far. And we’re not even we’re not done yet. We haven’t even gotten started yet, ladies and gentlemen. 91 wins. The Brewers still on pace. They we’ll see if they can get to 100. hasn’t been done yet in Brewer history. So, it should be interesting to see if they can get nine more uh closing out this season. But, I’m just so proud. I’m so happy for Andrew Monister. You’re going to be hardressed to find another clubhouse guy like Andrew Monisterio and the energy that he brings and the smile on his face, it’s palpable. And the guys love him. They ripped his jersey off after he walked it off there in the bottom of the 10th inning. And again, you just get goosebumps just thinking about what it was like for him to have that moment to not see, you know, action every day, you know, every week and sometimes and and be up and down, you know, between, you know, minor leagues and major leagues and and not knowing when his number was going to be called, but when it’s called, he delivered. So, congratulations to Andrew Monisterio. Certainly love uh that for him. I I did want to kind of piggyback off of that. We’ll get to your thoughts, your reactions, but I do want to talk about the things you’ll be talking about tomorrow after a 9 to8
