🔴LIVE 🔴Detroit Tigers VS New York Yankees /September 11 /MLB THE SHOW 25
executive. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Detroit Tigers going up against the New York Yankees. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. So, just about set and on the hill in this one, Paul Blackburn. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around. And we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Now, the third baseman, Colt Keith. Now, this is in the air down the line. Judge getting an angle on it. One down. And now the Tigers lineup for manager AJ Hinch Singi. We’re looking at a young lineup here. Not much experience, but they’re going to bring a lot of energy to the field. Yeah, and that’s just it, Boo. We expect this lineup to play hard no matter what. They are an exciting group to watch. Here is Glabber Torres. Come on, Paul. There’s the strike. He swings and fouls one off. One out. Base is empty. Let’s go Yankees. That one misses. And the count is one and two. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. And there’s a fly ball deep right field and it one hops the wall around first and hustling for second. And he’ll pull in there with a stand up double. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the at bat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. A lot of times in today’s game, right fielders are able to get to a ball that stays in like that, but he hit that one pretty well. And if he hits it just a little bit different on the barrel, it’s out of here easily, but there’s nothing wrong with the extra bases right there. Carrie Carpenter up now for the Tigers. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. That one ripped and it looks like trouble. And that’s going to roll to the wall. In comes the first run of the game. It’s one- nothing Tigers. The relay to third. Not in time. He’s safe and a run comes in to score. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. He put a great swing on that ball. Took the barrel right to it. Nice extension as well. 105 exit velocity. That tells you everything you need to know about that swing. One down, runner at third. Green will hit next. So clutch, you could argue that he’s been this team’s MVP this year. Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Run around at third. One gone. That one misses. One ball, one strike. Swing and a miss. And that one missed by a ton. Man, that was pretty gross right there. Swings through that and it’s a strikeout. And there are two outs. Definitely made him chase a little bit out of the zone right there. I don’t think that’s a strike if he takes it. Pretty textbook pitching. Get ahead in the count. Get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn’t have much of a chance to do any damage. Spencer Torqulson in the box now. No balls in a strike. Two outs. Rolled softly, but that goes foul. Out to short. Vulpi throws it to first in time. They limit the damage here, but they do get on the board in the inning on this runscoring triple. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show back here in New York. And today’s starting pitcher, Casey M. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason, he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. Trent Gisham, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Brush him a guy that understands the strike zone. Out towards right center. That’s well struck. Raging back towards the wall. Tattooed to tater town and gone. A solo shot. His 31st home run of the season. And we’re level. It’s 1-1. This game is breathing new life thanks to that home run. And that’s exactly what they needed. [Applause] Power versus power right there. Like two locomotives colliding. Who’s going to win? Well, a really good job there by the hitter getting the top hand working. Powers that fast ball out of here. And now big number 99, Aaron Judge. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. And the pitch upstairs. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. Next offering is in for a strike. two straight. [Applause] Got him. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. So, he gets the call and picks up the strike out looking. Sometimes with a good hitter at the plate, he’ll be the one to get the benefit of the doubt if he lays off on a close pitch like that, but just not right there. Strike zone definitely expand a little bit with two strikes. Here comes Cody Bellinger. That one called a strike and it’s 0 and one [Music] right through there for a strike. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. Pitch misses there and that’s ball one. Really good take especially with two strikes. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Batting fourth. Two outs. Base is empty. Ben Rice stepping in now for the Yankees. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. Two out. Space is empty. Late on that fast ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Liner. And this could be trouble. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s in there. It’s a first inning double. Good two- strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some. So, that was nicely done to beat the odds. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. John Carlos Stanton stepping in now for the Yankees. This one chopped on the ground but foul. Rice at second with two down. And that’s in there at the knees. That split is a pretty nasty pitch. explodes out of the hand. Looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it. Got him looking. Inning over and it could have been worse. So they pick up a run on two hits. No errors and a man left. We head to the second from the big ballpark in the Bronx. All tied 1-1. Second inning, set to go. Now it’s the switchhitting outfielder Wel Perez. Blackburn back to work. Missed with a change up. And that is ball one. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. That’s back there. drops in for a hit. Couldn’t run it down safely into third with a lead off triple. Oh, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. Put a really nice balanced swing on it. And when you can rope one into the gap like that, you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box. And he’ll feel real good about that one. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Parker Meadows up now for the Tigers. Pitch is in there. It’s 0 and one. You know, this guy’s great speed is in the back of that pitcher’s mind. If he can get on, it’s going to give him one more thing he’s got to think about. Runner at third. Nobody out. here in the top of the second. Line drive and foul ball [Music] in the air left field down the line and it falls. Runner from third comes across. It’s 2-1. That’s a good job right there. You got two strikes on. You just got to battle. And here’s the catcher, Dylan Dingler. Right through there for a strike. Man at second. swings and misses. Struck him out. That was a wellexecuted slider away for the strikeout right there. First two pitches filled up the zone and got him ahead 02 in the count. And at that point, you can start expanding the zone as a pitcher. He made him chase and got the quick strike out. Trey Sweeney up now for the Tigers. Check swing and that’s a ball. One ball. Runner at second here. One gone. Pitch misses and now two and0. Clyde Washington with home plate duties in this one. Little bit of a low zone boo from Clyde. Nothing crazy though. Pitchers that work consistently down around the knees and are able to command their offspe stuff tend to have some pretty good success with him back there behind the plate. And that is in for a strike. And it’s two and one. Foul ball there. Hit in the air center field. Gisham settles under it and there’s two away. Up next for the Tigers, third baseman Colt Keith. Now at the plate, Colt Keith. He’s 0 for one. on the ground and that’s just foul. Man on second, two down. Swing and a ball lined out towards center. And that is that. But a run will score in the inning on this RBI double. And it’s now a two-1 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Here’s the second base. Jazz Chisum Jr. Chism Jr. edge of the zone for a strike. 0 and one. [Music] And that one is inside. Falling behind. Two and one. And there’s the strike. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Whacked out to center field. That’s well struck. That one is back. Grabs it right up against the wall. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Here’s the catcher to hit. Austin Wells. He set a new career high in home runs this year. And Singi, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible now. Headed towards the corner. Green on the run. Can’t get there. This one lands foul. [Applause] line drive, base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. [Applause] We also was hit hard, but how hard was it, Singy? Stack Cast is here with the answer. Yeah, Boo. It says the exit VO was 113 mph. And it looked every bit of it, didn’t it? I mean, just an impressive swing of the bat and clearly he saw it out of the pitcher’s hand. No problem. And now Anthony Vulpi. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Tying run is at first. Bottom half of inning number two. Check. Swing. Went around. Now he’s in a one-two hole. [Applause] There’s a swing and a drive. That’s back. gone off the center field windows. See you later. He’ll touch them all. Home run number 20 on the year. And they add a couple more. It’s 3-2. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. does an excellent job of getting his arms extended to get the fat part of the bat to the baseball. Wrists do not roll over. They stay through the zone and on plane. Excellent swing. [Applause] So, one out, nobody on. Ryan McMahon stepping in now for the Yankees. Liner base hit. So the one out hit turns the lineup over. Now batting center. So the lineup flips over. So the batter now will be Trent Gisham. He’s already homerred in this game. Swing and a miss. And that is strike one. One straight. McMahon stands at first with one out. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. [Applause] swing and a miss. Struck him out. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Well, there he gets the slider in on his hands and it just eats him up. You know, it’s hard to get the bat around on a pitch like that in tight. You just feel like you’re crowded on the inside part of the plate. Can’t get any extension. That’s one he definitely should have laid off of. Now it’s Aaron Judge up to the plate. He was a strikeout victim his first time. base hit center field and out to a board. [Applause] Well, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. Here’s Cody Bellinger. He swings and crushes one deep on its way back there. Gone. It’s a melly bomb. Cody Bellinger blasts one out. It’s their second home run of the inning and they tack on to their lead. It’s 6-2. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. [Applause] Well, he went up there O looking to do damage. I think he had his sights set on that pitch. He went and got it and circled the bases. [Applause] Two outs, nobody on. And now the first baseman, Ben Rice. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and it’s one and0 on the mound. He’s got to remember his offense can score a lot. So, if he can hit the reset button from here going forward, there’s still a chance that his club can win this ball game. And that one just missed off the outside edge. swings through that one for strike one. From a pitcher’s perspective, that’s a beautiful splitter right there. As a hitter, you don’t like it. But he’s commanded his fast ball and out of that same tunnel, that splitter comes and the bottom just falls out of it. That one missed. Draws the walk there. Here we go. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Stanton in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. Yankees. Next offering is in for a strike. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. And that’ll put runners at the corners with two away. Jazz Chisum Jr. now 0 for one with a fly out to center. first offering and it just misses. Two on, two outs. Strike one. Movement in the bullpen. Kaider Monttero, the young right-hander up and throwing. Number 51, warming up as well. That’s off the inside corner. Two and one. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Rice the runner at third. Stanton on first with two down. Next offering is down low. Austin Wells waiting to hit for the Yankees. [Applause] And they’re all loaded up. [Applause] Now betting manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Casey M is done and the home run really bit him today as he exits on the hook for the loss. New arm coming on after the break. Kaider Montero comes on now. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers, so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. So, they’re all loaded up. And up next for New York, Austin Wells singled and scored his first time. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Late swing. Fouled to the left. Base is loaded. Two down. [Music] Fouls one off out of play. back to our left. Checks his swing. Appeal to third and Ed Drummond right on it. Says he held up. So they’re all loaded up with two outs. [Applause] Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Dingler puts it away and that is the inning. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 62. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. On to the third inning now. The number two hitter, Glabber Torres. Torres, 28 years old, and he was born in Venezuela. That’s outside. And that’s ball one. And that one wrapped foul. Good take by Torres. Looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up. Doesn’t want to make another mistake. Slashed foul down the right side. And that’ll hook off into the seats. Misses and now it’s three and two. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up. if he’s walked that one out to right. Judge really on his horse for this one. Won’t get to this one. It drops foul. New York. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Oh, looking for a swing and miss right there or for the ump to help him out and make a call with that last pitch, but neither happened. Close pitch, but a good take to earn that walk. So, a man at first. Next is the designated hitter, Carrie Carpenter. Ball one there. Off the mark there. And it’s two and0. [Music] Rudder at first with no outs here. York got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. Okay, in the air left field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s one down. Now batting left fielder Riley Green. Here’s Riley Green. Went down on strikes his first time through immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Next offering is in for a strike. No, he’s really working that inside corner with the cutter. I tell you what, I hated that pitch. So tough to get the barrel to and to keep it fair. Misses inside and it’s one and two. Rolled to short. Possible two ball. Vulpi tossed to second onto first. Double play and that’s the inning. Nothing across here this half. We head now to the home half of inning number three. Yankees six, Tigers two. Set for the bottom of the third and stepping in for the Yankees. Anthony Vulpi just off the outside edge. One and0. You know, these Yankees putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. They jumped all over the starter and knocked him out of the game early. He just was never able to settle in and the damage was done by the time he got the hook. I mean, when you’re chasing the opposing starter in the first inning or two, that’s just such a tone setter for the game. And it puts the other team back on their heels, and it instills a lot of confidence in your lineup from top to bottom. Swing and a miss. Got him to go up the ladder for the K. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. There’s Ryan McMahon now. One for one with a single and a run scored so far. And that’s in there for strike one. fouled off to the right and that one almost hit him. Straighten him up a little bit. [Applause] Highfly ball out towards left field. Way back there and it is gone. He’ll circle the bases. Home run number 20 on the year and they boost their lead. It’s 72. [Applause] Elevated fast balls, especially away, are like putting the ball on a tee. Hitters do a lot of cage work. They’re comfortable hitting off the T’s. And he was comfortable right there, hitting that ball opposite field for a home run. Gisham batting with one down, takes a strike. Gisham, first round pick of the Brewers in 2015. One down, base is empty. right through there for a strike. He’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in [Music] a little high. His understanding the strike zone very impressive. That was a very close 02 fastball. I just don’t know how you take that. Foul ball still a one and two count. One out, base is empty and a run in here in the last half of the third. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Well, that’s a blue zone right there or the cold zone on the hitting chart. just doesn’t have much success in that part of the strike zone. And a really good job of the pitcher executing. Try to go there as often as you can. The numbers are in your favor. And first off is fouled off. Judge waits. And Judge spoils that one. These hitters like this that have so much power, look forward to seeing them hit the ball a long way. But if you’re in the stands or you’re in a broadcast booth or you’re a writer, better keep your eye on the game. The one two. That’s down and in. Cody Bellinger would be next if they can extend the inning. And he’s homered already. So I’m sure he’d love a chance to do some more damage here. Two down to ground ball toolson. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. The Yanks do get one on the solo homer. It’s now a 72 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show here at New Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. John Champi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Spencer Torqulson. sliced hard but fouled. Well, these Tigers just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see, but I think they have to. Well, a big lead like this is comfortable many times, but not when these two teams are matching up. You got to continue to keep your head down, play catch with that catcher, and just try to move through this lineup. And that’s outside. It’s two and two. line drive. Fair ball. Now he’ll turn for second. The throw in. Not in time. That’s a leadoff double. A late jump. And I think that was the difference on the play. Boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve at the plate. Wel Perez. Come on, Yankees. Let’s go. There’s the strike. For you growing up in New York City, I mean, you’re a big sports fan. Tell me about your experience with the Yankees growing up. I really went to Sha Stadium more than I did to Yankee Stadium. I grew up a Phillies fan. There was one game though that I went to as a kid. I sat in the upper deck. It was the game that Bo Jackson hit three homers in his first three plate appearances and then hurt a shoulder diving for Dion Sanders inside the park home run. That’s probably the most memorable game that I ever attended as a fan at Old Yankee Stadium. And he takes it himself for the out. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. And next to hit for Detroit, Parker Meadows doubled in his first AB. That one outside ball one. Singi four homers in 22 games at Old Yankee Stadium. What do you remember? Well, I remember my rookie year hitting two in one game. And you know, before that game in the clubhouse, there was a gentleman there who owned a suit company there in downtown Manhattan. and he said to me, “Hey kid, you hit a home run in the game tonight. Come over to the store tomorrow and I’ll give you a free suit.” So, I went into the game. I happened to hit two. When I walked into the store the next day and he looked at me, he said, “You’re trying to put me out of business, aren’t you?” And that was a great great experience that I had as a rookie playing against the Yankees, playing in New York. So, did Super Joe give you two suits? Super Joe hooked me up with two suits. swaying in a ball popped in the air. It’s going to fall for a hit. Torqulson scores. It’s seven to three. In there safely. Now batting catcher Dylan Dingler. One out, runner at second. Dylan Dingler up now for the Tigers. Struck out, swinging his first time. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. And that one hops the wall. Runner comes in from second to score. And they cut the lead. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. A well-deserved double on a great swing. got everything going on time. He stayed balanced and he squared it up about as well as you could possibly ask. Trey Sweeney the next to hit. Fly to center. His first time. He’s 0 for one. And there’s the strike. out there for Aaron Boon. Warren the right-hander loosening up as well. Ball to strike. That one ripped right center field and it one hops the wall. The run comes in from second and now just a two-run deficit. Well done. narrows the deficit with the RBI there. Double into the gap and that was a really nice swing to beat the inside pitch. He just beat him to the spot. Kept his hands tight inside that baseball and that just allowed him to drive it into the alley right there. Here’s the third baseman, Colt Keith. 0 for two in this one. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Founding ball here. Rolls. Foul. Swing. And a highf fly ball hit the air left center field. This one’s got a chance. And it’s gone. So he goes the opposite way with that one and we’re all square. It’s 77. It’s like he’s playing whiffle ball up there. And that’s typically not the easiest way to hit a home run. to the slight opposite field into the gap. Man, making it look easy, that’s for sure. Here comes the skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Paul Blackburn won’t go any further. Got them some innings, but they didn’t come easy. New pitcher coming on and we’ll be back after a quick break. Now pitching new pitcher for the Yankees, Ryan Yarro. Well, at this point of the ball game, we’re talking about middle innings. And he need a little length out of this arm coming out of the bullpen. We’ll see just how many outs he’s able to give his skipper. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. And up next for Detroit, Glbert Torres. Strike on the inside corner. One down, base is empty and a foul ball. 0 and two now and ball one. Still only one out here in the inning. Strike him out. This one smoked on its way out of here. [Music] They do it again. back-to- back homers. His 16th homer of the year and that gives him a lead. It’s 8-7. That’s a fun way to take the lead. Just hit one out of the park. Backto back jacks. And this club is fired up right now, Boog. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other. And the collective confidence just continues to grow. Base is empty, one away. And now the DH Carrie Carpenter. Check swing and he went. That’s strike one. And there’s a ball. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. The big six spot already on the board this inning. Top half of inning number four. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. And a one, two. swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Now batting left fielder Riley. Now here’s the Tigers cleanup hitter Riley Green. Breaking ball in there for a strike. Carpenter at first. One gone. Next pitch is outside. outside with a breaking ball and that skips in the dirt. Well, with the amount of pitches that can end up in the dirt, a good secondary lead. Doesn’t have to get away from the cliff. You’re anticipating. Swing and this is ripped down the right field line way back there. Out of here. A two-run shot. Their third home run of the inning. And they throw a pair on the board. It’s 10-7. a breaking ball up and in. You have to be careful to not jam yourself. The velocity is not going to do it, but your swing path can if you come off of the baseball. Pulled his hands tight to the body. Really good job of explosion through the zone and drove it out of here. Now, here is Spencer Torqulson. And it’s fouled away. Next offering down low and in the dirt. This has been a rough inning, but sometimes you just got to work through it. Save the rest of that bullpen. Somehow stop the bleeding. And that’s in the dirt. When the skipper calls down to the bullpen, he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs. So far, not getting what he was hoping for. That one misses. They’re now three in one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. And the 3-1. That’s a walk. Went with the cutter again, but couldn’t find his own. He tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Man at first and the batter now Wel Perez. One for two. First pitch misses. Rudder takes off. The 1-1 is fouled off. And now two and two. And that just misses and ball four to a board. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice plate appearance. First and second, one out. And next up for the Tigers, Parker Meadows. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. Ground ball left side. Could be two. Feeds to second. Out there over to first. Safe. Well, an aggressive slide at second base, but it was legal. I like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit. Nice job by the base runner. Dylan Dingler up now for the Tigers. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. He’ll do it himself. They don’t come much closer than that. Bang bang play to end the inning. So they bat around and score eight times to take the lead to the bottom of inning number four now. Tigers 10 and the Yankees seven. Bottom of the fourth and here comes Bellinger. No, he’s been having a great year this year and hitting home runs at a good clip and the matchup is very favorable. The first one to Bellinger is in for a strike. Bellinger is an interesting example when you talk about scouting and development. I mean, this is a guy now that has turned into one of the premier power hitters in the sport. He was a fourth round pick out of Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona in 2013. He hit one homer his senior year. That misses now two and two. And downstairs Hard hit right side slings to first. One out in the bottom of the fourth. Now batting first base Ben Rice. Ben Rice digs in now. Ball one there. Way to be patient. Hit on the ground to the right side and it goes just foul and it finds its way through for a hit. Wasting no time. He’s Two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. John Carlos Stanton at the plate and a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Rice leads off first with one away. Now, here we go. On the ground, two ball off balance feed. There’s one. And that’s two. One hit in the inning, but nothing more than that. We’ve played four. Tigers 10 and the Yankees seven. Now pitching for the new. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Tim Hill. 65th appearance on the mound for him this year. That’s a bunch. So there’s no doubt he’s a guy they trust and really like turning to out of the pin. And first off is fouled off. Well, these Tigers really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see them go to work. So far, they have six hits in the counts where the pitcher has had the advantage. So, it hasn’t been easy for them, but they’re finding a way to get it done. Ground ball right side. Rice steps on first for the out. Deceptive slider right there. Stayed in the tunnel a long time. Got that hitter out front, rolled over it, put it on the ground. Back to the top of the Detroit order. Colt Keith getting ready to hit and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Well, don’t expect too many more high fast balls. This is a good sinker ball pitcher and sometimes they can make mistakes trying to pitch up in the zone. Look for him to stay down around the knees to be effective. Just missed. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Up the middle on the run. Throw to first and they get the out. Now batting second base Torres. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Glabber Torres. He’s already homerred here in this one. Inside ball one. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And that one fouled off. Swing and a miss. And he struck him out. And it’s a one, two, three inning. Nothing doing here. this half, last half of the fifth. Coming up, Tigers 10 and the Yankees 7. Back at Yankee Stadium, bottom of the inning. And stepping in for the Yankees, Jazz Chisum Jr. Chisum Jr. Monttero back to work. And that one’s a little bit low. And that’s ball one. You know, these Yankees, digging into their numbers, have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far, and that tells me they’re seeing the ball out of the pitcher hand really well. There’s the strike. With all those extra base hits, it’s easy to think we’re going to see that trend continue the rest of the game. They seem to be really locked in at the plate. fouled off and they’ll do it again to third and that’s a fair ball around first heading for two and he’s got a leadoff double. I’m sure he feels really good about that one. Just an awesome swing of the bat, quick hands, and just launched the baseball. 108 on the exit velocity. Man, that is coming off the bat pretty good. I know he’s feeling good about it. Runner in scoring position. No outs. And now the catcher comes up to hit Austin Wells. Swing and a foul back. That’s out of play. Runner at second. Nobody out. [Music] Fouled off left side. [Applause] gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. No outs. Runner on second. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Five foul balls in a row. I have no idea what that feels like, but you got to love this battle. Just wondering who’s going to blink first. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. And now runners at the corners. Nobody out. Torres fires over to first. Quick recovery from the misplay. Pays off for the out. Anthony Vulpi stepping in now for the Yankees. We just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap. He’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots. And that drops in for a strike. Highf fly ball. Pretty well struck out towards right center. That’s back there. Out of here. Another homer. He’s done it again. His second homer of the game. It’s 109. That’s their fifth homer of the game. Man, they’re all getting into the action. It’s starting to feel like a home run derby up here. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Here comes the skipper. And we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Kaidder Montero is done and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. They hand the ball over to a new arm, Chris Paddock. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. There we go. Ryan McMahon steps to the plate. That one is absolutely belted and gone. They go back to back. His second home run of the game. It’s 10. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. [Applause] Welcome to the game. First pitch out of the bullpen, a tough one. And you know, he’s just trying to get one in there for a strike. And on the other side, as a hitter, it’s a great time to be aggressive and let it fly. It’s not what they were looking for when they turned to him. But now he’s got to find a way to reset. Gisham the next to hit takes ball one. Already three runs across in the frame. Last half of inning number five. And that’s off the outside edge. And that’s ball two. One down. Base is empty. Pitch is in for a strike. And it’s two and one. Next offering is fouled back. Swung on. Belted going back on this one. That’s down. One hops off the wall and he’s got a double. having a really nice game here. That’s his second extra base hit. Great hands on that swing to take the inside pitch and drive it into the gap for the double. It’s easy to spin off a pitch like that, Boo, and can pull that thing foul, but that was perfect. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position, it’s Aaron Judge now, one for three. top of the zone for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. [Applause] Oh, look at the stop over to first. Nicely done for the out. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Bellinger up to hit. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. and fouled off. Little chopper rolls foul. stays alive. And that’s off the inside edge now. One and two. Ground ball left side. Throw on to Torqulson and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over, but two round trippers in this inning. The long ball was working and it’s now a 1010 tie. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back for more from the Bronx. Top six. Now it’s the DH Carrie Carpenter. That’s a slider for a strike. Activity in the bullpen for the Yankees. Fernando Cruz getting loose out there for Aaron Boone. Lighter the hardthrowing right-hander up as well. Next offering is in for a strike. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. And now one and two. These two offenses can put up runs in a hurry. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. [Music] Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Jazz tosses the first leadoff man retired in the six. Now batting left fielder Riley Green. And next will be the cleanup hitter Riley Green. Hill 35 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. And that one fouled off. All tied up. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Swing and a ground ball. And that one gets through into center field. Just kept it simple. Played pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from. And there was just no one there to knock it down. Here comes Torque to the plate. And a strike [Applause] turned on, but that’s foul down the third baseline with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. down. Foul ball still 0 and two. Just misses there. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Snap throw to first and he’s back in safely. [Music] Green the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Gets a piece and stays alive. Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact. Outside low and it’s two and two. Way to lay off that pitch down. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Five foul balls in this at bat so far. And these two are going headtohead. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch. even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming about to see the 11th pitch of the bat here. Next offering misses and a full countdown. Wel Perez in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. on the ground right side. Four, six, three. It’s a double play and that’ll do it for the inning. Well, the second base made that one look easy. Great feed to the shortstop. Shortstop completes the play. They get out of a jam and they end the inning. Back in the Bronx, bottom of the six. And here’s the first baseman, Ben Rice. Yankees. Ball one, no strikes. Well, a mistake right here could untie this ball game. If you’re the pitcher out there, you just want to be a little more cautious. that gets by him. [Applause] And now it’s John Carlos Stanton. [Applause] And the first pitch misses for ball one. with a go ahead run at first here in the bottom of the six. That one down the line and it’s just fouled. That was close. Late with the swing there. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. And that’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. That misses the zone. Two and two. [Applause] Got him swinging for the strikeout. Slider got him for strike three. Boogie just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. And next for New York, Jazz Chisum Jr. and he can’t come up with it. And no shot to get him at first. There’s two aboard. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. Hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly, but you can’t really blame the defense in that case. Next to hit, Austin Wells swinging a foul out of play. And the pitch is outside. Ball one at the dish. Looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning. Inning double play, boo. Next pitch is outside. It’s a big opportunity right here, but I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. And the two-1 hammered, but foul. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. went back to the slider and it was a good idea. Up next for the Yankees. And up next for New York, Anthony Vulpi. He’s got a couple homers already, so can he possibly do it again? Come on, man. Of course he can. Those two he hit were legit. And he looks pretty locked in right now at the dish. [Applause] And that misses and it’s one and0. First and second, two down in there at the knees and one and one. That one missed. Home plate umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. And that is out of play. Rice on second. Chisum at first. Two out of the inning. [Applause] Swing and a miss. And that is that. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. gets out of the jam. Clearly, he’s happy with those results. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Fernando Cruz. Left-handed batter at the plate, and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So, this seems like a calculated move. Digging in is the switch inning outfielder, Wel Perez. Wel Perez. Let’s go Yankees. Swing and a fly ball. Well struck left field. Stanton makes the play and a quick out number one. Now batting the center. And next to hit for Detroit, Parker Meadows singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. Yankees, just missed. So, how much does his speed factor into his ability to go get it? It’s heartbreaking for the hitter because off the bat, he thinks this ball’s going to get down because of that speed and the ability to make up so much ground. He enters the picture and breaks a guy’s heart. Here’s a 200. And a big swing and a miss. There’s one guy that I can think about, Boog, who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite perennial gold glover out in left field for the Kansas City Royals. But he’s a guy when you watch him play, you would imagine that that’s all he ever played in his life was the outfield. [Applause] Center field. Gisham settles under it. They got it for out number two. Now batting catcher Dylan Dingler. Dylan Dingler will hit next. This is a guy who’s very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game call, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. Swings through that one. 0 and one. you come into the game knowing that unless the ball’s in the dirt or gets by him, we’re probably not going to steal anything today. So, that’s where you want to get a little more aggressive on your secondary lead and hope that some base hits, some slog, some home runs can come into play and that one upstairs. Well, I’ll say this as a former position player and base stealer, when you come into a game and you’ve got a guy like this behind the dish with a big arm, you really have to change your approach. can’t try to steal because you’ll get thrown out. Maybe get a little bigger lead, be aggressive on the secondary, but this type of guy shuts the running game down and a potential go-ahead run stops at second base. Two hits for him in this one, both for extra bases. Got to feel good about that. Just a bloop hit behind third right there. And that’s a really tough play for a third baseman or shortstop to get to and the same for the left fielder. So, he just found a perfect place to drop that one in right there. Really important at bat coming up now. Now here is Trey Sweeney right through there for a strike. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Two outs and a swing and a miss. That ends the frame. No runs, one hit, a double, no errors, and one man left. Seventh inning stretch time. We’re all even at 10 apiece. Now pitching. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Sawyer Gibson Long. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season. So, this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. And stepping in for the Yankees, Ryan McMahon. three for three with a pair of home runs and a single. Just missed. [Applause] Up and in. Now 2 and 0. Was a good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. Clearly taking all the way there in that three-0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. again. Fouls one away and now three and two. It’s a leadoff walk and that’s the go-ahead run. Go a breaking ball in that 3-2 count kind of tells you that that’s the pitch he has the most confidence in right now. Just couldn’t find the strike zone. Now here’s Trent Gisham. go and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Activity in the bullpen. Tyler Holton up and throwing. Kanley also getting ready. Next offering in there for a strike. 0 and two. Let’s go. And that skips in the dirt. The go-ahead run aboard at first. Nobody out. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. And that’s in the dirt. [Applause] makes a sliding stop. There’s one on to first in time. Double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. and charge. Here is Aaron Judge. [Applause] And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. [Applause] Two down, nobody on here. The bottom of the seventh. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, he’s gotten ahead with two pitches down in the zone. He has plenty of options right here. He can go up, he can go away, he can add velocity, he can subtract. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So, a two out knock keeps the inning alive and puts the go-ahead run on base. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. Runner at first with two away. And up to the plate comes Cody Bellinger. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Two gone. The possible go ahead run at first to the right side. And that one finds its way through. And that moves the go ahead run to scoring position with two gone. Now batting first base. So the go-ahehead run is into scoring position and now the first baseman Ben Rice on the ground right side. Torres over to first. They miss a big chance to take the lead here late. So no runs in the inning despite the leadoff walk. And that does it. Eighth inning coming up. We’re all even at 10 apiece. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Mark Lighter Jr. The offense will need to be ready for the breaking stuff. He’s got a great curveball. Mark Lighter Jun. And here’s the Tiger leadoff man, Colt Keith. Colt. And the pitch a little bit low. Ball one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Devin Williams getting ready to go. The 10 line drive and this might be trouble. In safely with a leadoff double. Go ahead runs in scoring position. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling when you connect and it jumps off your bat like that. You’re thinking double at the very least. Put a great swing on it and man, he wasn’t fooled at all. A lot riding on this next at bat now as they look to take the lead at a critical point in this one. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Glabber Torres the next to hit first offering and it just misses. Go ahead run in scoring position. Nobody out. That one misses and it’s three at home. Normally, you wouldn’t mind giving up first base, but the power waiting on deck might change your thinking a bit. Bad spot for the pitcher here in this count. And there’s the automatic. Really been able to slow down the game tonight with his at bats and the biggest one he’s had so far. He doesn’t look anxious at all. On the ground right side and foul ball. He fouls it off. We’ll do it again. with the go ahead run standing at second and we’re in the top of the eighth line drive. That’s a base hit. Heading for the plate now. A long throw home, but it’s offline. He will score. It’s 11 to 10. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch runscoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. No outs. Runner at first. Carrie Carpenter now at the plate. Ground ball right side. Could be two. Chisum to second onto first. Double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. [Applause] And next will be the Tiger cleanup hitter Riley Green. Check swing and he went strike one. Hey partner, how’s your scorecard looking right now? Little dicey kind of hieroglyphics style at the moment. You know what it’s like singing remember our trip to London Yankees and Red Sox in 2019? I think there were there 50 runs scored in the two games. Oh, and a nice sliding stop and that’s a great play for the out. But they pick up one run on the RBI single home half of inning number eight straight ahead. Back after this on the show. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Tommy Canley. Well, he’s been a bit of a wild card out there in terms of throwing strikes. He’s definitely struggled with free passes this year. Now, here’s John Carlos Stanton. A lot of times you’re looking for a guy to get that tying run on base, but because of the power, you want him to tie up the game with one swing here. First pitch and he just misses. Activity in the bullpen for Detroit. Will Vest getting loose for AJ Hinch. Next offering is in for a strike and a swing and a miss. And now the count is even ground ball right side into the outfield base hit and the tying run is on with a leadoff single. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Substitution now at first base on a pinch run. Ahmed Rousario. Jazz Chisum Jr. getting ready to hit and takes low for ball one with a single base runner. Because of all the power, they are dangerous to tie this thing up or take the lead. There goes the runner. Pitch is low. The throw, tag, and he’s out. That goes to show you stealing a base is a tough thing to do and far from a sure thing. Even with big-time speed, it’s not easy to catch them. But that was a great catch and throw. Quick, not rushed, and accurate. Yankees clips the corner and it’s two and one in today’s game. Not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds. They’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. looking to get the tying run on base. Swings through that one for strike two. Off the mark there and it’s three and two. Austin Wells in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Fights it off. You’ll see another. Looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, I want to stay up the middle. That way if you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. If you’re a little late, this one swung on and hit well way back there. That one is gone. He’ll take a trot around the bases. His 29th of the season. It’s 111. Listen to these fans. This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. [Applause] Man, he just barely got that one out of here. And you got to love the effort and left to try and bring it back. He had a good shot at it. Just couldn’t quite pull it off. It would have been a stunner if he did. And next for New York, Austin Wells. And he takes one right on the black. It’s 0 and one and ball one. [Applause] That one missing inside. [Applause] Back and forth we go. A seessaw battle in the late stages of this one. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Oh, I’m not sure what he was waiting on right there. He got the change up and still laid on it. You rarely see that. It almost makes you think that he was trying to set the pitcher up. I mean, if you can’t catch up to the off speed stuff, there’s no way you’re going to touch a fast ball. The Yankees going with a pinch hitter. Jason Dominguez. Big at bat here. So, looking for a better matchup with a left-handed bat. [Applause] That one pulled foul. Let’s go Yankees [Applause] and misses inside. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. [Applause] That misses. Two and two. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. Another look at the long ball for the Yankees through eight full. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Now into the ball game on defense. Jose Cabierro, he’s in Shorts stop also into the ball game. Austin Slater. He’ll be out in left field. Spencer Torlson digs in now. Spencer Torlson. Lighter 33 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season. Lighter back to work. Outside one and 0. Action in the pen down there. Devin Williams getting loose out there for Aaron Boon. Dval getting loose as well. Next offering is in for a strike. And a big swing and a miss. Strike three. Got him swinging and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. You know, Boo, you often think of sliders more for that horizontal movement, but most of the good ones have both vertical depth and that horizontal movement. And that’s what we saw right there. Good drop on the break and got him to swing over the top. Now it’s the right fielder, Wensil Perez. This one ripped but fouled to the right. And that one fouled off. One down. Base is empty. And a swing and a miss. Now two out. That’s about as nasty of a splitter as you’ll come across, especially in terms of movement. I mean, that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment. If he keeps it down, it’s just so tough to put wood on. Here’s the center fielder, Parker Meadows. Well struck right field in one. Hops off the wall. Should be extra bases safe and that’s his third hit. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Go ahead run on base. Dingler the next to hit. Right down to shoot. Going one and it’s through for a hit. Runner around third. Here’s the throw. Not in time. He’s safe at the plate. It’s 1211. Well, he delivers in a huge spot right there. Well, he’s so dialed in. I don’t think he even realizes how much pressure exists out there. Very easy swing, nice and relaxed. This is the type of approach you want to see guys take in this situation. And here comes the Yankees manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Mark Lighter Jr. won’t go any further tonight. And as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. Now on the bump, Camilo Dval. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. So, two down and up next for Detroit, Trey Sweeney. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. Just off the inside edge. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. Spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another York. with a short stop. Takes a ball up the middle onto Jazz and the inning is over, but the RBI single pushes across a run. We head now to the bottom of the ninth. You’re dialed into the show. back now and on the mound the closer Will Vest. Well, you see the ERA very solid and that doesn’t always tell you the whole story, but he’s been really good so far this year. Now, the third baseman, Ryan McMahon. You got the number nine hole hitter right here looking to do whatever he can to get on base, turn this lineup over so the best hitters in this lineup have a chance to tie up the ball game or maybe even walk it off. Swing and a miss. One and one. Well, you can’t offer it that pitch in an O count. It’s a strike, but not every strike is a good strike early in the count. That one hammered, but pulled foul. outside low. One and two to Cal. One-run game. Bottom nine. Got him swinging. Well, that right there is what you want to see out of your closer. Come in and close the door. Cancel any hope that that opponent has in making some type of comeback in the ball game. Tell you what, that helps him settle in and that helps everybody else relax a little bit to get these other two outs. Swing and that ball smashed out of line and that one hops the wall. Well, that at bat had a lot of pressure riding on it. So, really great job coming through right there. It’s got to feel good. He really stung that pitch and drove it deep, but pretty surprised he didn’t end up on second base right there. I think he probably should have, but you know what? We’ll give credit to the defense for holding him to a long single here in the bottom of the ninth. One out. Here comes Aaron Judge. This guy with light tower power. first pitch doesn’t find the zone. All season long, he’s racked up a number of saves and sometimes the adrenaline doesn’t get high enough until there’s a runner or two on base. Trying to keep the game alive here in the bottom of the ninth. Next offering is in for a strike. Just about gives his skipper a heart attack, but that’s where he functions best. And now two balls in a strike. Trying to close out a one-run lead. And the home team trying to pull it out. Swings and misses. And the count is two and two. He normally does damage on that pitch in that location. Just a swing and a miss there. I don’t think you want to throw it again though. misses outside and that’s ball three on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo. [Applause] Ball four. He walked in and that keeps things going. Walks out of the bullpin can absolutely kill your momentum very quickly. They’re in some hot water trying to protect this lead. big spot and Cody Bellinger stepping to the dish. This is a big spot for a big time player. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Oh, so many hardth throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the bullpen. So hard to play catchup. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and they’re down to their last out. Ben Rice stepping in now for the Yankees trying to deliver as the hero. [Applause] Well, comfortable or not, these are the situations closers they seem to live for. I mean, you get into some hot water, a jam, tough spot, whatever you want to call it, but this is where they earn their keep. Fought off foul. The Yanks down to their final strike. A change up missing. gonna count one and two. Two outs. Both the tying and winning runs are on. Hey, you got this. That misses. Two and two. [Applause] Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still fires to first. the tying and go ahead runs are left aboard as this one is over. Well, you take a tie ball game into the ninth on the road. You know that you’ve got some work to do. You got to score, but then you’ve also got to get three outs in the bottom half of that inning. They did just that today. Very well played ball game. Get this win on the road. Everybody’s happy with the W. And a final score 12-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.

Jon Sciambi and Kenny Singleton are terrific. Loved Jon on ESPN, and Kenny can explain, simply enough, every piece of strategy, why to throw what pitch, and always on the money. Simply nobody does as much as Singleton to make one understand the game, and expands my baseball savvy. Began watching the Yanks in '56, with Johnny Kucks on the mound and The Mick with another MVP-level performance.

Of course, I mean Chris Singleton with the computer and data in his head. That's what I get for being a Kenny fan since the Orioles. He also became a broadcaster .
Go, Yankees!!!!⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾
I watch these videos every day
