STRUGGLES: New Orleans #Saints Fall Despite Spencer Rattler’s Strong Performance, Defense Falters

Close but no cigar is the way that the New Orleans Saints second game goes for the second week in a row. Really, it’s the story of the New Orleans Saints early season. Two games in a row. Both with opportunities to drive down and either tie or take a lead in this game up against the San Francisco 49ers. An opportunity to potentially have a game-winning drive, but unable to come up with it after a sack fumble on fourth and two. But outside of that play, the Saints did get their best game out of quarterback Spencer Rattler. And if nothing else, you’re seeing some growth from the quarterback position, which is an absolute must for the New Orleans Saints as they go throughout this season. Uh Spencer Rattler with his careerhigh in passing touchdowns, passer uh passer rating, completion percentage, and consecutive completions, just not enough to overcome the 26 points that a short-handed San Francisco 49ers offense was still able to put on the board up against this New Orleans Saints defense that’s still struggling with tackling and still struggling on third and long situations. The things have a lot to fix, but we’ll see how they continue to progress over the coming weeks as they go on the road at Seattle

  1. Regardless of who
We play, it’s the NFL and all teams will have to play with hurt players on the bench. It’s the next man up. Now two games, two losses, but Rattler looked better this week. He needs help. JuJuan Johnson has to make catches. People have to stop getting flagged for penalties although this week week it was cut in half, OL needs to continue to improve it can only get better from where we are now. On the positive side Rattler showed growth and improvement and Vele may be a real big addition to this offense as he be fully involved into the offense.

  2. I'm still scratching my head at the San Francisco challenging the catch by Kamara.

Last week, Olave does the exact same thing: not ruled a catch.

This week: "San Francisco is challenging the ruling of a completed pass." Not challenging a fumble, but a completed catch. Because refs weren't calling it a fumble, they called Kamara down by contact.

They were able to say he caught it and then automatically say it's San Francisco ball…WHAT?!

But it's two weeks in a row, receivers can't do the job they're paid to do. Catch the damn ball. Olave can't catch when he's wide open, the next play he's not paying attention. Johnson isn't doing himself any favors catching less than half his targets. Round of applause on that TD grab, but there were several other passes to him that he knows he should have caught. Start coating their gloves with super glue.

Two weeks in a row and Rattler looks like a deer in the headlights. 0-8 and I'm losing confidence in his ability to command that offense. When the game is on the line.

  3. This is insane. Am I living in bizarro world? Rattler makes every drive look difficult. He continues to throw passes behind receivers. When pressured his eyes go down and he runs immediately and often early. 2 of his TD passes were 3 yards after the run game and the refs marched them down the field. He threw 2 good balls, the TD to Johnson and the 39 yarder to Shaheed, otherwise it was bad ball placement with no RAC and check downs. This cannot be the Saints passing offense for the future. The Dome will be just like today, 55% visitor fans every game. This is horrific football and it is painful to watch.

  4. They beating themselves… Spencer missed the first pass in the end zone… the penalties are killing them that mental mistakes at home zero excuse…no they go on the road to Seattle have to be kidding me…

  5. Bruh the more I see some of these the more pissed off I get… it’s annoying because Spencer is trending in the right direction and at the end it’s a team sport, he’s the least of our problems with this team at the moment

  6. Yall cut Rattler some slack some of the best in the history of the NFL had struggled when young in the league to name a few P Manning D Brees S Young all had their lumps not saying he's on their level but he is servicable

  7. Yiadom was awful for 9ers last year. Continued that today.

I couldn’t believe saints didn’t properly address the cornerback position. And here we are.

  8. Can’t get off the field on 3rd and long and can’t tackle… And I saw A LOT of wide open receptions. This defense is pointing more towards liability than reliability.
