Nick Lardis on Team Chemistry | Chicago Blackhawks
What was your your overall thoughts personally on your weekend? Yeah, I mean it was good. I mean uh it’s good to be out there and and healthy again, I guess. Um obviously there’s some rust just not playing from 5 and a half months. I mean your touch is off a little bit. It’s it’s a little more sloppy obviously, but that’s kind of expected. I mean you’re just here to kind of show your strengths and and overall to show your compete out there and how much you kind of wanted and um yeah, I thought the team did a great job with that and obviously a little snake bit there. That’s going to happen sometimes, but not too worried about it. But you’re not used to that. Ah, no. I mean, it happens here or there. I had a couple stretches last year like that, but you know, I had a breakaway, a couple breakaways or something like that. Bounced over my stick and then some good defensive plays by their team, too, and their goalie was was playing well, too. So, um, yeah, there’s nothing you can do about that, but yeah, I’m getting the chances. So, I mean, that’s that’s kind of what you want to want to take away from that, I guess. Oliver Moy said you drew up the play yesterday. Can you take us through that? Yeah, so we uh when I was in Brford last year, we had a lot of overtime games and that was kind of our play. I won’t say too much about it just to steal it. But um get any ideas from other teams. But yeah, I’d kind of go around the net, pick up speed, and um it kind of depends if the guy’s kind of tracking you or not. You can kind of beat them up the ice or if they play a twoon two, you’re kind of they’re kind of flatooted. So I kind of told them like, “Hey, Rinsy, go behind the net. I’ll take the puck and then you can either leave it or give it to one of us with speed.” And I told Moresy to kind of time it. And yeah, it worked out well. So worked out perfectly. That was cool. Do you feel like you and Oliver worked well together? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean yesterday I thought obviously for the most part first game playing together ever in a game like this it’s kind of tough to kind of create a lot of momentum I guess but uh it was good. I mean we were we were playing fast and got some good looks and like I said you’re not going to bury three four goals every single night but you know it’s for the first game I was happy we got a lot of chances and you know in the I got in the overtime got a little deserving one there too so it was good. You you’ve been through this in this tournament a few times. Can you tell a difference in your I guess your body or just your game from where you were last year or two years ago? Yeah. Uh you know I feel stronger like just kind of laying the body a little bit kind of gets you in the game. Um just kind of just with battles too and just um you know before checking playing defense blocking shots you kind of feel a little more meat on your bone I guess doesn’t hurt as much with those kind of stuff but uh yeah I just you feel stronger out there after your third one. you got a little more confidence, but um yeah, just want to keep building from it and it’s good it’s a good stepping stone kind of going into camp too. Gets you ready for it. What were the things that you worked on this summer? Yeah, I mean obviously just had to rehab for uh a little bit but you know overall just really just working on strength, working on uh you know puck battles and stuff like that. Working on some Dzone stuff. Just kind of getting smarter. You know obviously the pro game it’s it’s a lot a lot higher and I guess higher skill and higher compete and guys a lot stronger. So making sure I’m kind of prepared for that. So yeah. Were you on the other side of any that spell last season in OH? What’s that? Oh, on the other side. Yeah, not that I can remember. I feel like if I was I could probably remember, but uh yeah, he’s he’s tough to play against. You see out there? I mean, it’s the way he uses his body and his skill. It’s he’s uh he’s a wrecking ball out there. So, yeah. Seemed like you’re using your like kind of quick hands to make some steals in the Dzone. Is that some of the stuff you worked on defensively this summer? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, you know, there’s there’s some times before skates you kind of warm up your hands, do little Dzone kind of slips like that and um using out here is it’s it’s good, like I said, good stepping stone to kind of carry that into camp and throughout the year, too. So, it’s good to kind of learn those little tools and um great chances up the ice. So, is it a lot easier to be comfortable with playing with Merrick and Parker coming from Brford? Yeah, you got a little bit of chemistry, I guess. Um, you know, these games are tough, too, just cuz you never really play with these guys for sometimes, you know, never and sometimes, you know, maybe a year ago, you’re playing with a guy for a game or two just like this. So, it’s tough to kind of create that chemistry like you want every single shift, but it’s cool to kind of play with those guys and and uh kind of be on the same page a little bit. So pass one.
