NBA Gambling Probes Pistons Malik Beasley. Point shaving scandal at San Jose State, Fresno State.
This is really bad. Uh, the NBA has now begun an investigation into gambling with ex Detroit Piston guard Malik Beasley. He was kind of the focal point of an FBI probe of his relationships with gamblers as it relates to mass betting in certain games that he played in. NBA cleared him, said there was no wrongdoing or should the FBI cleared him. NBA has now just announced they’re starting their own private investigation into Malik Beasley’s accounts with casinos and FanDuel and all these other companies that are taking on volumes and volumes of bets. They’re looking at Beasley’s relationship with those people. Uh, I’m not going to say Beasley’s toxic, but Beasley does not have an NBA contract and camps are about to open and that was a guy was averaging 21 points per game for the Detroit Pistons. So, at this point, NBA is looking at him. That’s one gambling story. The other gambling story is really bad. Uh, the NCAA has expelled three basketball players from the Mountain West Conference for betting on games, raking in $18,000 in profits, betting on games that they played in at Fresno State and at San Jose State. In essence, it’s got to do with point shaving. It’s got to do with poor play and a massive bets made at certain times on certain players in certain games who played really badly in those games and came off the floor. These three guys, two at Fresno State, one at San Jose State, have been expelled by the NCAA. I think gambling’s everywhere. And the question is, if you’re going to risk it, you’re probably going to lose your career by virtue of doing it. We’ve seen it already in the NBA. We’ve seen it in the past with the NFL suspending guys for nine games to a full calendar year. It’s I I bet it’s everywhere. You bet. Bad choice of word. Okay. Um, you know, it’s funny when you right when you said point shaving. Do you remember when Tulain got into that point shaving scandal? I remember my my buddy, this is back when in the 80s and he had a t-shirt that had a two lane basketball was green and had shaving cream on the basketball and like a razor, you know, kind of shaving. Uh, now I’ve said this before. I think gambling in sports net is a great thing. I mean, it gets it gets more people involved in the game, you know, more fandom. I think it’s all good. They just have to police it. And this is a case where they’re policing it. You know, they got the relationships with the casinos and they can see the irregular betting activity and they can go after them and shut them down. But, you know, this whole this sort of thing has been going on in sports forever. I mean, I think remember University of San Francisco had a problem. I mean, there’s a number of other cases that we could site, but as long as this is policed overall, I think this is okay. It’s just some of the carnage that, you know, you get some dummies in here that aren’t, you know, managing their life properly. It’s out there. I think it’s probably everywhere. Okay, that’s the latest from gambling, NBA gambling, NCAA.
