  1. Welp, this feels a little more like the team I grew up watching. Can’t wait for Worthy and Rice to come back.

Wayyyyyy too many people seemed to take yesterday personally and got genuinely angry at people and a game that don’t know they exist. Sometimes it’s good to step back and remember that this is all just entertainment.

  2. Positives – the defense played much sharper than in Sao Paolo. The Eagles were more or less shut down. Mahomes is still obviously the best player in the league.

Cons – Well, no one else on the offense can do shit. Pat willed them to 20 points last week after Travis murdered his WR2, but he couldn’t do it alone this week.

All that and we were STILL just one dropped TD-turned-INT or Butker shank from tieing/winning a game against the team that waxed us in February (or the referees finally calling the tush push penalties, but if we didn’t want our fate in the hands of the refs we should have played better). So on the whole, I’m like…10% more optimistic than I was last week.

  3. I hope we start calling plays that are designed for Pat to throw the ball deep. Not where there’s one deep option, but where Pat’s 1st 2nd and maybe 3rd option is 20+ yards downfield. Pat hasn’t been accurate the last couple years downfield, but I have all the faith in him to figure it out especially they really emphasize it throughout the week of practice and in games.

When he had to start chucking it deep towards the end of the game, most of those plays should have worked. One bad overthrow, a couple that just missed, and then the TD. The biggest play for the Eagles ended up being that jump ball to Smith. It wasn’t a great throw or design, just a 50/50 moonball that hit his guy. Also was close to drawing a DPI there. They just chucked the ball up there and hoped it would work out.

I would rather see us go 3 and out trying to hit Tyquan and Worthy on 3 deep balls than go 3 and out with 2 carries and a short pass that gets stopped before the marker.

  4. Positives:
    1. They are still pushing the deep ball targets and hitting more than they did the past 2 years. Thornton is cooking guys deep consistently.
    2. The secondary did a complete 180 compared to last week despite Fulton’s injury and the lucky YOLO ball to Smith.
    3. Pat is still Pat.
    4. Run defense is still good enough.
    5. Josh Simmons’ athleticism, effort, and talent cannot be denied.
    6. Defensive rookies are starting to look promising.
    7. It’s only a matter of time when we get Rice, Worthy, and Royals back.

    Negatives:
    1. Not investing in RB since CEH’s draft pick has finally reared it’s ugly head. We are way behind the rest of the league. I don’t think I can name a worse RB room. Refusing to give Brashard actual touches is frying me too.
    2. Our playcalling overall is plagued by stale complacency & predictability. There’s no fun or innovation anymore.
    3. I get Philly has the best OL in football, but our lack of pass rush is beyond abysmal. ONL’s awesome suplex sack aside, no one has shown up on our DL this season. With z’Darius Smith and Clowney signed elsewhere, there’s no help available unless we do a trade (and we saw how that worked out last year with Uche).
    4. The 2023 draft class (minus Rice), Fulton, and Elijah Mitchell are all looking like huge whiffs by Veach so far.
    5. Jawaan is a net negative and needs to be off the field. Put Jaylon Moore in at RT and end this penalty nightmare. We should have just resigned Wylie in 2023 for less than half of cost.

I’m sure there are more for both that I’m missing, but that’s what I got for now.

  5. This draft class (except Rice) has done more damage than people realize. An absolute stinker one year after 2022 being one of the best in team history.

    Edit to expand my point:

    1. FAU – one of the biggest busts in team history, on IR and on his way off the roster
    2. Rice – stud WR but idiot off the field and unlucky injury last year; the only guy who is and will be a high-caliber contributor from this draft
    3. Morris – backup swing tackle at best
    4. Conner – decent-to-good player at times but playing out of position most of the time
    5. Thompson – illness ended his career before it really started & I hope he can live a long & healthy life; the pick still didn’t make sense at the time
    6. Coburn – cut early in the season and has been a practice squad journeyman ever since
    7. Nic Jones – cut after 1 season and only played special teams and limited CB snaps

  6. Rice and Worthy cannot come back soon enough. I want to see what this offense is supposed to look like, not the taped together Frankenstein we’ve been putting out there for almost a year now

  7. The last time KC started 0-2 was 2014.

Since that 0-2 start, the Royals have gone to back-to-back World Series and the Chiefs have played in 5 Super Bowls.

  8. 0-2 sucks but I’m not worried about getting to the playoffs. We will be fine, and who knows, maybe we don’t get to the SB. But that’s okay, and I hope the office wakes up and sees the dysfunction of our offense e

  9. Tyreek Hill should have never been traded. It’s been a revolving door of weaker players since he left. Hit them once and they’re out for the season. The entire o line needs to do their job so that Patrick can do his. As it stands Patrick is doing their jobs for them. Kelce hasnt been in the game for awhile. Once Patrick’s go to and always there player, now can’t catch a ball, protect the ball, or run like he used to. First game he takes out our receiver, literally wasn’t an asset anywhere. Second game, fumbles the ball on the one yard line. But screams LFG in players faces. Maybe if he stopped looking up towards the box and kept his mind in the actual game he’s paid big money to play, things may be different. I’ve never not backed Kelce like this. He’s just got to snap out of it and love the game again or retire.

  10. I expected to lose without our best 2 pass catchers , but it’s is incredibly hard to not be mad at Kelce for that loss, shitted away our longest drive of the day.

  11. 13-10 Philly, 10:44 in 3Q. KC’s drive right after gifting Philly 3 points after a terrible 4th and 1 call.

Thornton runs a great double move and Pat throws a deep laser up the left sideline. Not a perfect throw by any means but good enough it should’ve been caught as Thornton got his hands on it. Ends up incomplete and Chiefs go 3 and out and punt the football.

To me – this illustrated perfectly KC’s lack of a viable WR1 who can make highlight catches to bail Pat out when he makes a good but not perfect throw. Obviously we have our main receives out due to injury/suspension but how often do you see a KC WR make a play that helps Pat out in a high leverage situation? Compare that with other WR1s who contort their bodies, make incredible toe taps, etc.

This is certainly not fair to Thornton who will never be that guy but it highlights why our offense struggles. If the KC wide receivers don’t get separation they rarely make plays and this stalls many drives.

  12. Call it an unpopular take, but losing has its upside. Those close wins last year gave us a false sense of security. At least losing forces them to face reality. And honestly, I’d rather see them exposed now than in the playoffs. We’ll rise again. Remember, the league’s top QB is still ours.

  13. What’s wrong with Royals I thought he just had a simple injury or is Andy gonna make sure he’s healthy and know the playbook

  14. Could yall see us trading for a RB? If so, which players do you have in mind? (Realistic ones that would fit the cap, etc.)

  15. Let me preface this by saying I did not get to watch the Brazil game (although I heard our defense was a sieve). I figured we would lose to the Eagles but I came out of the game feeling very optimistic. I was impressed with this defensive performance, we seemed to swarm to the ball and made strong tackles, including in open space. Kelce had some bad luck with the interception but before that he was stiff-arming linebackers etc. With Worthy and especially Rice back the offense will open up and take pressure off our enigma of an OL. We just have to (get and) stay healthy!

  16. I am surprised and happy about how well our defense played. I thought our secondary would be torched given their WR corps. Our offense laid an egg… and the slow starts were terrible … no relief for our defense.

And Kelce… stop with your ‘shouting leadership’ and antics on the sideline. This is your last season…. does not mean you get to take it out on everybody. Calm down.

  17. I think my biggest takeaway so far is that we really need major upgrades at RB 3 games in a row (counting the superbowl) Mahomes is the team leading rusher.

  18. I am not overly concerned with being 0-2 because the defense has been solid but I am not gonna lie this is probably the worst RB room that I recall since being a chiefs fan and I am in my mid 30s. Our lack of any type of running game is my biggest worry. Idk if we make any type of mid-season trade ( Id love to get Breece Hall) but it is def has to be a priority in the offseason. You look at the Eagles, Ravens, and Bills and they all prioritized the position.

  19. I’m just hoping we started a discussion within the entire league over the bullshit tush push play. Also, the Simmons play in the INT was spectacular. I’m seriously beginning to think we finally found a long term solution at LT!

  20. In previous years, it feels like the following would have happened:

**They stop Herbert on the third down scramble with Mahomes winning the game on some insane final drive and Kelce catches the pass as the Chiefs wrestle away control to win at the end.**

There is plenty of blame to go around the losses and I trust some work/introspection will follow. But I can’t shake the feeling that these two games are not radically different than a regular Chiefs game over the last few years. Cumulatively, drafting late and being priced out on many good players for over a decade will take a toll. So I’m actually not super mad the Devil Magic isn’t there all the time (it’s unrealistic to always expect it). I’m still confident they have a next gear they’ll find this season. I’m WAY less bothered than I was after this one a few years ago:

That felt like we were realistically headed for the abyss watching it (we weren’t btw).

  21. Interesting question to ponder just to emphasize how much of a advantage the Eagles get to play with vs everybody else. For the record I think it’s BS too.

But If NFL teams were posed with either option. Which would they choose.

    – You get to start every game with a 4 point lead?

    or

    – You get to play all game with needing only 8 yards for a 1st down while the opponent needs 10.

I don’t think a team in the league would take those 4 points. They’d say “give us the yardage.”

Does that mean that setup is worth 5 points? 6? IDK.

They just simply are playing almost a different game than everybody else with that setup.

  22. Rex Ryan is so stupid.

He said the constant blitzing of Mahomes was a lack of respect. No, that showed respect when you go out of your comfort zone to call blitzes (and they did cause bad plays).

The real lack of respect was the Super Bowl where Fangio didn’t have to do anything outside of a basic defense because his players were dogwalking the Chiefs offense. I’ve seen more inventive playcalling in Madden than that game.

  23. Is Kelce only on the team at this point because he’s so famous? Genuine question. Surely Noah Gray should be taking the majority of snaps?

  24. 1. At least we’re not the Bears

    2. At least we’re not the Bengals

    3. If we can be 3-3 by week 7 anything is possible

  25. Crazy what 3 super bowls can do for a fanbase, or for me anyway. Not even concerned yet tbh, I figured if we went 3-3 before getting totally healthy, that’d be solid.

Shit just doesn’t matter until the playoffs lol

  26. Honestly both games could have went either way! We need to work hard make plays and good things will happen

  27. Was there anything to the supposed fumble on the tush push? Haven’t had a chance to actually dive into it and check film. Didn’t really look like it from the broadcast.

  28. im going to say something here, and it’s not because I am a “Spoiled fan” (I’ve watched my whole life and am a 20+ year STM), and it’s not because I’m “overreacting.”

    This team sucks.

the coaching staff is gutless, the defense is sloppy and undisciplined, and our savior PMII is not leading his offense from a position of strength.

we have amazing talent, and the team is horrible.
