CANUCKS GET THEIR REVENGE ON SEATTLE: VANCOUVER PROSPECTS VS THE KRAKEN
[Music] And here we are back to our regularly scheduled programming. The Vancouver Conucks come back from what was a terrible choke yesterday against the Seattle Kraken three to nothing down to 53. Well, the Canucks just uh vindicated that. They beat Seattle today in another prospect showcase game, one where there was actually audio on the broadcast. So, uh, yeah, props out to the Canucks broadcasting team for giving us some actual things to listen to. But Vancouver walks away out of this game with a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken. And there are a number of players that we can dive into and praise like the guy who started things out and got things going one- nothing for Vancouver, Yonathan Leramaki, who for better or for worse does have high expectations upon him heading into the year. He was very good in the AHL. He was decent in the NHL. If he ends up making the team, then it will be off of the product of his hard work and his skills. He ends up getting things going one- nothing in this hockey game as he is set up by none other than Patterson. No, not Ilas Patterson, but Riley Patterson whom the Vancouver Conucks drafted in 2024. Patterson goes behind the Kraken goal to fight for the puck. then does a nice little Henrik Sadine to Daniel Sadine back door behind the back reverse side play and finds Jonathan Laramaki in tight. He buries it. It’s one- nothing. And yes, that is true. That Sadena replay that I referenced against the Kings and Jonathan Quick. Pretty sure there was some sort of milestone attached to it. I don’t think it was 1,000 points. No, it wasn’t. I’m going to have to research that later. That’s going to be bugging me. Wait, no, it was 700 assists for Henrik. That’s what it was. Right, right, right. Go look that up on the Sportsnet YouTube channel if you want to see it. But Vancouver’s Patterson and Leramaki duo end up getting some sort of a lesser version of that. The puck doesn’t travel as far, but it still ends up getting in the back of the net. Laramaki in tight snipe over the glove there. Nice to see the Seattle Kraken then tie things up, making it one to one. But Vancouver gets a response from none other than Aaron Obabifo, who’s a familiar name for many in the Vancouver scene because this is a guy who is a Vancouver Giants stud. And Obabifo unfortunately was not drafted in the most recent NHL entry draft. He didn’t play many games in the most previous season, which was his draft eligible season, but he got invited to the Vancouver Conucks prospect showcase as a Vancouver Canuck, and he scores a really nice goal to put Vancouver back up 2 to one. He gets the pass off of the boards, does a nice little cycle, give play with his linemates there. Obabifo then goes to the front of the net, receives the pass, and then outweights the Kraken goalender to bury the puck in and get the Canucks back in front. Really nice play, good awareness, good cycling. Admittedly, the Kraken D were totally out to lunch here. I mean, they got lost in the spin cycle, leaving Oba Bifo by himself out in front. It’s a 2 to1 game heading into the third period. And then there were some other highlights as well. Aku Koskin Vuo looked pretty good. Stopped a breakaway, stopped some other high danger shots. Looks like he’s providing some very solid goalending for the Canucks prospect core, which isn’t surprising considering the fact that Vancouver just seems to have a lot of really good young goalenders in the system. Cost Vuo is probably going to be an AHL guy this upcoming season. Maybe he gets a chance in the ECHL if there’s too many guys with the Abby Conucks. We’ll see what happens. But of course, this is why Archer Sheilovves was shipped out in the first place, just to make some room for guys like Tolapilo, Ta Young, Kaskanvu. Maybe somebody gets sent down to the ECHL. Who really knows? But Kaskanvu looked pretty strong in this game. You also had yourselves the other Patterson as we had talked about. Riley Patterson set up Yonathan Laramaki to get things going one- nothing but he also had a beautiful snipe in the third period receiving the pass in the slot and just driving through. Really nice goal and making it 3 to one. Also some injury updates for Vancouver from this one. Parker Alos got injured defenseman drafted by Vancouver back in 2024. He’s not really the flashiest guy, but if I recall correctly, was he not like a considerable candidate for team Canada at the World Junior or something like that? I don’t remember. It was from a while ago. But Parker Alos, young 19-year-old defenseman, pretty stable guy. Defense a Dman not able to finish off this game and continue for Vancouver. Also not in the lineup, Braden Coots, who had to sit out because of precautionary reasons. We had spoken about it yesterday. He did get hurt, but Vancouver prospects do bite back. And also happy to report about Tom Valander. Yesterday when I was in the Taiwan Tawian airport, I recorded the vlog talking about Vancouver’s loss to the same Seattle Kraken team and that was fun, right? Talking about things live as they happen or as they barely happened. And there were some concerns about Tom Valander, whether or not he was in a proper position to continue or if he got hurt. What was his health status like? And people were debating, speculating what went on. He didn’t look all too great in that first game against the Kraken. But in this second game, h things did look pretty good. And it was pretty refreshing to see Tom Valander with nice pinches and step up plays. He had a number of good moments in the zone before the Leramaki goal went in. So even kicking things off right away at the beginning of the hockey game, he was looking pretty strong. So of course, you know, like we always talk about every season, I get it. Some people can look at these videos and say that I’m part of the problem, but after yesterday’s first game, now I’m not saying that there were many, but there were a few of us that were saying, “Oh yeah, this guy is falling. Tom Vander sucks. Braden Cous is hurt Vancouver Conucks hockey and yeah like I definitely was a part of that but we got to all remember that just because I say something on a YouTube video or just because one thing happens in one day in one game it does not mean that it is the entire truth for the long hall. This right here is particularly another example of Vancouver Canucks hockey. A bad loss, a bad choke in one night and then a pretty strong win the next night. players don’t look all too great to open things up, but then they start to get their gears back on and they start to look pretty good again. So hopefully the consistency is what builds over the next few weeks heading into the preeason, heading into training camp and the start of the regular season if a guy like Tom Vander is able to take that upward momentum. It doesn’t have to be a step up every game. It doesn’t have to be progress every single time. Let’s just aim for maybe even three steps up and two steps back is fine. Like ideally you’d want two steps up and one step back. But really even three up, two back, three up, two back, three up, two back is still progress. So if a guy like Tom Vander or Laramaki has a bad game once in a while, it’s not the end of the world. They had a good game today. Nice to see that. But it is part two of what is going to be a very, very long NHL season. and just the second game here. We’re going to do all the playlists and stuff the same way that we’ve done it in the past. So, all the Vancouver Conucks game recaps will be together. I just include everything. So, the prospect showcase games, the pre-season games, the regular season games, and then fingers crossed, the Stanley Cup playoff games. So, hopefully that will continue into the next few months here. But for now, let me know your thoughts in the comments section below about the Vancouver Conucks and their game against Seattle. The prospect showcase victory over here 3 to2 in regulation. Thoughts in the comments section below. I hope you enjoyed this roll and bye. [Music] [Music]
