Blackhawks takeaways from Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase: 10 impressions

  1. Lardis didn’t score this weekend, though he was robbed by the goalie twice and made a nice move on a breakaway. Still, I feel much better about his chances of becoming a top-six forward.

He looked bigger, showed off his playmaking, and was active on both the forecheck and backcheck. He’ll need a year in Rockford, but he’s clearly not the one-dimensional player people worried that he might be.

  2. >…It was Sam Rinzel who was by far the Blackhawks’ best player on Saturday. Sure, there’s a lot of hype about Rinzel after his nine NHL games last season — read [Mark Lazerus’ recent story](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6624187/2025/09/13/blackhawks-sam-rinzel-rookie-camp/) about him if you haven’t yet — but there’s no reason to believe he won’t exceed expectations this season.

Thought Rinzel looked great too. Every time I watch him I’m impressed.
