Are the Bengals COOKED without Joe Burrow?! 😳 ‘It’s DONE!’ – Damien Woody | Get Up

It’s the top of a new hour here. Get up on a Monday with you as we head into hour number two. You see the regular crew Teddy in for Orloski who was got second game of the double header tonight in Las Vegas. And we begin if you were just joining us with the breaking news that Shifty broke for us about 25 minutes ago live here on Get Up and it is exactly what we were hoping not to hear from Cincinnati. A seasonal altering injury to Joe Burrow in which he now will have surgery on his toe. it will sideline him a minimum of 3 months and quite possibly longer. When you look at this injury, it’s typically a 12 to 14 month or week type of surgery. If it’s 14 weeks, he’s not back till January 1st. Who knows where the Bengals are, but he has struggled to be protected from the moment he got to Cincinnati. Whether it was knee injuries, pinky injuries, wrist injuries, and now the latest toe injury. You saw him walk off the field yesterday. He grabs onto the trainer. When Joe Burrow, a ultra tough guy, is doing that and he’s walking in that way, you know that it’s a serious injury. That serious injury is now confirmed. He will need toe surgery. He will miss a minimum of three months and it’s up to Jake Browning to help save the Bengals season. So, there’s a lot of different ways to react. One of them is to look at what it means for the Bengals chances. And in the eyes of the people who tend to know these things better than anyone, here’s the number. The Bengals were 20 to1 at ESPN Bed Sports Book to win the Super Bowl. Chefty broke this news about 25 minutes ago. That numbers jumped to 75 to one. Like, let’s just say it. We all know it. And this is not just the Bengals. There are some teams, most teams in the NFL, you lose your starting quarterback, that’s it. Your season is over. And that’s what has happened to the Cincinnati Bengals here. They’ll keep going. They’ll try as hard as they can. Their coach will say all the right things. Jake Browning will say and do the best he can. But the reality is if the Bengals were a Super Bowl contender when they woke up yesterday, they certainly are not now. Dwood, what’s the right thing to say about this situation? If you’re playing in the locker room, you’re dejected. I mean, here it is. We were just talking about it in the break. Yeah. It’s literally week two and my starter, your starting quarterback is possibly done for the rest of the season. You’ve prepared all offseason all the way up to this point. You’re 2 and 0, but your your starting quarterback is done. Like it’s it’s a dejecting thing in the locker room. It’s going it’s going to take a little while. I mean, initially I I remember when Brady went down and week week one, he tore his ACL and we had to bounce back and but that was week one. It took a while. Matt Castle came in. We still go 11 and five, but this is that was a team that went to the Super Bowl the previous year. This is a Bengal team that that that struggled last season, too, and and Joe Burrow is is basically what they have in that offense and scoring points. So, get through the fact that yes, again, it’s happened. You’ve lost Joe Burrow and you’ve got to do everything you can defensively running the football. Support Jake Browning, but in terms of being a playoff team, I mean, it’s the chances are slim for them. And Brew, you guys went 11 and five. All right. With that backup quarterback, by the way, you never made the playoffs that year. So, we didn’t. We didn’t. I think that’s that’s what you look at here. I mean, they’re in such a hard division. I I just think it’s devastating. But but Greeny, my point is this. When are we going to look and alter what the hell we do offensively? Number one, it should be protection first. You have a a an unbelievable quarterback, MVP type quarterback every year he plays. How about we try to protect this man? He’s been hit uh I mean 31 more times than any other quarterback. Uh his offensive line gets beat like a drum all the time. How about we end up leaving guys in for protection? How many damn receivers do we need out there? you got two great ones like protect this kid at all cost moving forward. You need to and it feels like if you look at their pass production rates, he’s never been protected well. And really, it’s I think almost a macro view if we go back to the draft in which they took Jamar Chase. Jamar Chase is one of the two or three best wide receivers in football. Chase, Jefferson, maybe Malik Neighbors right now. These guys are unbelievable. We’re not arguing that. We’re talking about the philosophical organizational decision. They chose a wide receiver over Penn Sul who’s going to go to the Hall of Fame with him. Absolutely. As an offensive lineman and is as good as any offensive lineman in the league. When you have an asset as valuable and as important as Joe Burrow, there is nothing more important than protecting that player. As great as Jamar Chase is, and he’s incredible, probably the the most successful I would say I mean non-mobile quarterback in the National Football League in terms of drop back pass. Are we talking Jared Goff? Jared G like someone that’s like he’s not going anywhere. He’s not running anywhere because it’s he he has the offensive line and the run game to support what he can do. But I’m saying this drop back passing athlete that’s just there. and as a quarterback that you think you’re going to spread it out. It’s becoming extinct because all of the the pass rushers that are just freaks in the National Football League and I don’t care who you have at the offensive line, the quarterback eventually on a regular basis guaranteed is going to have to do things that Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, these type of players. It’s just terrible. I mean, there’s nothing else to say. If you’re a football fan, all of us are we lose something by this great player being unavailable to the biggest game of the day yesterday. The Eagles and Chiefs became the first intraconference rivals to meet five times in a 5-year span. They had split the first four meetings. Two of those were Super Bowls. This one starts with Saquon Barkley going to the house. And there’s the offensive line and running game we’re talking about to compliment an offense right there. Now late in the second quarter, Chiefs down 73. Momes Rex. This was their best offensive play. Yeah, it is the guys. I mean, the best quarterback on the planet, but he has to do it all himself. They can’t block and get nobody open. Then the whole game Dwood turns on this play. Chiefs driving to score. Ball bounces off Travis Kelce and it’s going the other way. Devastating. You put together, you know, 13play drive, you’re literally going in to score. Ball gets tipped up. Interception Philadelphia. The entire game changes there. By the way, great hustle play by the offensive tackle. That saves a touchdown, but not for long because the Eagles on this third and 10 get it down inside the five to Devonte Smith. And that would set up later in the drive the absolute abomination that is the brotherly shove as the Eagles go in to score 20 to 10. And that looks like it’s going to be the ball game. Four minutes left. Chiefs still fighting for it. And here’s a chance, Teddy. They’ve got Taekquin Thornton wide open. He doesn’t miss these. He’ll get another chance. We’ll see. But still, that that’s one that’s that’s that’s a that’s a little sign of the problems that the Chief Seats are having. Yeah. But Brady said it hurt him to see it just watching the play, but then a minute later they go back to the well. Usually you should get it on the first try though, Rex. And that’s a 49 yd touchdown. So it’s 20 to 17. But it’s too little too late because the Eagles can just keep doing this. Just run out the clock. Do it over and over and have the lineman fall start and not be called over and over. One way or another, the Eagles get the win 20 to 17. And here’s the bottom line. If you’re in Kansas City or no matter where you are, if you’re under the age of 10, you have never seen the Kansas City Chiefs 0 and2. This is the first time they’ve started with that record since 2014. The last time Patrick Mahomes is two games under 500. He was in his final year at Texas Tech. That was back in 2016. So, I guess we try and figure out just how much trouble. Let’s start with that. Just how much trouble the Chiefs are in. And you said it earlier this morning, D. would. What’s the number one thing to say about that Kansas City offense? No one’s scared. No one’s scared of anybody over there. Listen, 15 is alltime great. Andy Reid is alltime great. But if I’m an opposing defense and I’m game planning, who scales you? Who scares you over there? Travis Kelce doesn’t scare me. Like, no one over there scares you. And as a and Rex, you know this, as as a defensive coordinator, when you don’t have to game plan specific guys, boy, you can unleash hell on the on the opposition, the opposing quarterback. That’s so true. Well said, D. Wood, because you’re right. Now you’re like, he used to lose sleep having to go up against these. Now you got the best quarterback in the league, and I don’t care. I’ll play him every day out of the week. Like, I’ll play him anywhere they want to play. Why? They can’t protect the quarterback. They can’t run the football because they can’t block anybody. And they got nobody that can get open. Look, Vic Bangio knew it. All right? He never blitzed once in the Super Bowl, right? And and had six sacks in that Super Bowl. What’s he do this game? A third of the time he blitzed. A third of the time. Why? Because you can’t get you can’t block, but you can’t get anybody open in that time. So you’re saying that is a sign that he doesn’t respect absolutely no respect, blatant disrespect for the Chiefs. That’s what they’re going to face until Rasheed Rice gets back. And so let’s talk about that, Chefty. They’ve got they’ve got the injury to Xavier Worthy. That obviously was happens immediately. The season is like one minute in and and they lose him. And Rasheed Rice is serving a six-game suspension. So they get him back. What What do the Chiefs do from here to try? The idea that they’re just done now that we don’t have to think about them, that seems ridiculous. So what do they do? I think at 0 and2 they’re still probably in a preferable position to the one that the Bengals are in this morning. Even though the Bengals are 2 and 0. The Bengals are 2 and0 and just lost their quarterback potentially for the rest of the season. The Chiefs are 0 and2 and the chances are they’re going to have Xavier Worthy back on Sunday night against the New York Giants. And if they can withstand that storm and find a way to win, get Worthy going because he’s a good player, then you get back Rice, then you find a way. Here’s the thing, the chances are they’re going to have a tough time catching the top teams in the AFC. The chances are they’re going to have to win on the road. But you know what? I don’t think Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid and Travis Kelce are worried about having to win in on the road in January. Just get them there. There’s a real chance they’ll be there. what they’ve done, as you remember, even last year, they won these close games. And that was this that was the thing, that 13 play drive, that that that drive where Kelsey bobbles the football. I mean, they’re not making the plays anymore. I mean, I mean, you’re missing kicks. You’re not making catches. I mean, you’re you’re making critical mistakes. So, that’s what’s happening here. These close games that they won before in the past, the le we’ve caught up. The league is caught up. The Chargers, I mean, on the critical third and 19, Chris Jones goes inside. Herbert, boom, gone. The league’s had enough. these teams are now with them. And then now I I mean the this Eagles team, they’re the class of the NFL here and they made them pay with this mistake. Getting much better. Yeah, the Chargers has the Chargers have gotten better. The Broncos are better. The Raiders have gotten better. So again, I’ve said it. I said it from the beginning. I always felt like the journey for Patrick Mahomes this year was going to be the toughest since he’s been in the National Football League. But I think other teams look at them and think for the first time in a while they’re beatable. This is the first time in a while that Patrick Mahome, he’s never lost three straight games in the NFL. This is the first time it’s ever happened. So that air of invincibility, that aura that’s been around them, it’s dented. No, absolutely is dented. And it was dented last year. And quite honestly, it wasn’t because Patrick Mahomes, you know, got them through all those games 15 and two. It was their defense. Their defense, by the way, yesterday played about as good as you can play. Yes. Like they they were outstanding in that game. So, if anything, that defense is going to have to carry the show again just like it did last year. And no, am I going to bet against the the Chiefs not making the playoffs? They’re going to make the playoffs, but they they don’t have any weapons. By the way, this is the second time we’ve gone through this game, and it feels so much like a referendum on the Eagles. What do we say, excuse me, on the Chiefs? What do we say about the Eagles? What What’s the right thing to wake up this morning and say about the Eagles? This is why they’re world champions. All right. And and situational football. Unfortunately, what we talk about, what you say is the worst play in football is actually the best play for them. As soon as they get in it, it doesn’t matter. Put it on the one yard line. Put it wherever you want. Any way you want to draw up a game, they can win it that way. They can I I believe Jaylen Herz can win a game throwing the football. I believe he can win a game if they even try to take away Squan and he’s got to scramble like he did in week one. Any way the defense can make plays like they did in this game, they will show you how champions any single way that you want want me to win, they can do it. And by the way, with the tush push, not only now do defenses not know how to stop it, but even the officials don’t even know how to officiate. Call it Eagles players jumping sides. The officials seem frozen. They almost feel intimidated by the play. They don’t even know what to do anymore. These guys are getting early starts. The Eagles know how to do it. They’re jumping out there. They’re getting their head starts. The Chiefs have no hope of getting this done. It’s an automatic play. You call it an abomination. I call it auto automatic, right? And the Chiefs have the uh Eagles have mastered it and right now defenses and officials have no idea about what to do about it. A little later in this hour, I’m going to ask the question, are the Eagles clearly the team to beat in the NFC as the defending NFC champs, or has anyone that we’ve seen in these first two weeks caught up? 1. Everyone's blaming the Bengals when they should be blaming Joe. Joe demanded they pay Chase whatever he wanted and demanded to retain Higgins. That money for Tee coulda been used to high 2-3 decent linemen

  2. By the way, the comment I made about drafting a wide receiver before an offensive lineman. I said that before Adam Chef just said it later in the clip is 100% right actually I'm 100% right I said it first.

  3. There's a lot of bodies stuffed together which can be tough to see from the side so have an official upstairs look at the tush push from an overhead cam and tell the guys on the ground to throw flags if it is a false start. no need to pussyfoot around in 2025. the technology is there. use it.

  4. We got bailed out by untimely errors against Jacksonville of all teams. We are getting throttled by the broncos, lions, easily by the packers. Burrow himself would’ve struggled to win against Baltimore and Buffalo. Looks rough this year

  5. Got to thinking what if someone who don’t got no pride feming for shadur sanders , he can come in and play like Brady and have Joe borrow in the same situation as drew was , when Brady stepped in for him .

  6. Easily predicted would happen. Mike Brown the best quarterback in Bengals franchise history a low budget, below average offense line, who can’t protect you from the Jaguars? I honestly hope Joe Burrow seeks a trade out of Cincinnati before he gets demolished with a career ending injury. Joey B. deserves to win a championship with an organization willing to invest in protection

  7. Chase will go to the hall of fame along with sewell & is also one of if not the very best at his position so I don't know what schefty is talking about

  8. The no call false start was bad but to keep brining it up after the fact non stop is exactly what they all ignored when no calls were favoring the chiefs
