The Cubs could clinch tomorrow. Would need a Cubs win, a Reds loss, and a Giants loss.

The magic number the Cubs really need is 9 (combination of Cubs wins and Padres losses) to get home field WC series. If they hold the first position they will host the WC and Padres will be visitors. If somehow the Padres overtake them, it will be the same series but held in San Diego with Cubs as visitors. In the very unlikely event the Cubs fall to the 3rd WC position (in which they’d have to lose most of their remaining games), they would likely play the Dodgers in LA (assuming Phils and Brew Crew get the 1st round byes). We are also close to clinching a Cubs/Padres series (regardless of where it is held) depending on how the Cubs, Padres and Mets do the next few days.
