🚨BREAKING: J.J. McCarthy OUT MULTIPLE WEEKS + Week 3 Bengals Preview

[Music] Hey, [Music] hey, [Music] hey, hey. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] What’s going on everybody? Welcome on in the Vikings now by chat sports as we are live breaking down the latest on your favorite football team and we got some bad news to talk about today. JJ McCarthy, it is official. He will be out multiple weeks. This was coming in from Adam Shfter. He’s dealing with a high ankle sprain. Now, people think this happened when he was evading to his left. It was on a second and 20 play late in that second half and it looked like it was kind of like a hip drop tackle on JJ. But they will be turning to Carson Wentz to be the starter next week against the Bengals. And honest, if I had to put my money on it, we probably don’t see JJ McCarthy until week seven against the Philadelphia Eagles. But we’ll talk about all that on today’s show. But if you guys are still a believer in the Minnesota Vikings, a lot going on with this football team. A ton of injuries, guys not playing well, guys not living up to their contracts. I went back and I watched offensive film earlier on today. And you know, normally they say like when you have a really good game offensively or defensively, the film is not as good as you think it is. And they also say the opposite. You know, when you have a really bad performance, it’s not as bad as you think it is. I think that it’s the opposite. It was a terrible performance for this Vikings offense yesterday. The film looked worse than he even was. TJ Hawinson was absolutely horrible yesterday. Um, for some reason he was top five in PFF grades offensively for the Vikings. I don’t know how that’s possible. He had drops. He could not get open. He just looked slow. He could not do anything. Um, so that was definitely not good. But we got a lot to discuss on today’s show. We’ll recap the game and then we do have to look ahead for week three. Cincinnati Bengals come to town and it’s going to be Carson Wentz versus Jake Browning. It is so crazy how quickly the NFL world can, you know, one just humble you and how quickly it can change. Like 48 hours ago, we were talking about this football team still being a Super Bowl contender. We’re thinking JJ is going to build off that strong fourth quarter, propel that into a solid game on Sunday night football. That did not happen. The offense looked horrible. Kevin Oonnell, terrible play calling game. The offensive line got their ass kicked up front and now we are sitting here without JJ McCarthy. Still no word on if Christian Darasaw is going to play. It’s going to be Carson Wentz starting. Van Ginkle’s hurt. Cashman’s hurt. Aaron Jones is also ruled out for next week’s game. So, it just overall is not good around our favorite football team. But if you guys are still a believer, hit me with a skull down below or just let me know your thoughts. Um as Riley in the building saying you have four downs in football in case the first three downs don’t work. You don’t have to use them. Gez. Um Josh saying Skull the Vikings O line need some work. They definitely do. Hopefully once Christian Darasol gets back that fixes that issue. Um yeah. Noah Carl saying Super Bowl contender might have been a stretch for the season but for future seasons. Yeah. I mean it’s tough to say right now. Obviously this is the lowest part of the Viking season by far is uh our feeling right now on this overreaction Monday. But I thought it was um I’m a little disappointed in myself I must say when I was heading into this Falcons game and you know one just not giving the Falcons more credit than I did and also just not knowing this Vikings team. Like we know the Vikings coming off an emotional victory short week. We should have predicted this loss. Like the amount of times this football team has had an emotional come from behind victory and then the following link uh following week they just lay a stinker. If you guys remember that Buffalo Bills game, the fourth and 18 catch for Justin Jefferson, what did the Vikings do the following week? You just won in Buffalo, one of the toughest places to win in the Josh Allen era. What’d you do the following week? The Dallas Cowboys came into your building and completely dominated you and they lost that game 40 to3. So, I wish I did a better job of just kind of, you know, understanding who this Vikings team is and understanding who, you know, Kevin O’Connell led team plays after an emotional win. Um, but I’ll ask you guys this on JJ McCarthy, obviously with the injuries and with him not playing too well for seven of the eight quarters. How concerned are you with JJ McCarthy? Scale it for me 1 to 10 down below in the comments section as we do got Bro Zama been swagging. Thanks for getting back to me uh with her shipping info as well. We’ll get that football shipped out to you uh hopefully later on today. Um but Broama coming in saying watch WZ ball out and it turns out to be a complete repeat of last season. Yeah, you got a redheaded quarterback stepping in for JJ McCarthy. Uh live arm, you know, turnoverp prone guy, but very similar to how we were talking about Darnold. So it is definitely on the table, Brozama. Um I can already see it though. You’re playing a bad Bengals defense this week. Now obviously the whole offense didn’t play well. Um, but if Lance goes out there and he has a hell of a day, it is going to be unbelievable conversations around the Minnesota Vikings. I don’t know if I’m looking forward to it or if I’m dreading it. Um, but hey, W is obviously a guy we’re going to root for. Like, this football team is still very good top to bottom. Now, they got to get healthy. They got to execute better. Um, they got to make the quarterback’s life easier because, you know, when we’re talking about quarterbacks, especially in a head-to-head matchup, I think it’s, you know, there’s context with everything. Like this past Sunday night, which quarterback had the easier job? It was Michael Pennix. He was not getting as pressured as much as JJ was. He had that run game with Bejian Robinson. And even though JJ, like you got Justin Jefferson, Jaylen Naylor actually had a good game. But like TJ Hawinson, he’s just a name at this point. And I am so concerned about TJ Hawinson. This guy’s got a massive cap hit. I think he’s probably going to get cut this off seasonason if he doesn’t turn this around. And also Adam Thielen, like you trade for him, you give up some late round draft capital, the guy’s got two catches. Like it’s just been very disappointing how this season has started. But hey, again, this terrible feeling we’re feeling right now, we could have a whole different feeling next Monday. Like if WZ goes out there, he plays some good football, we move to two and one, you know, then we’re looking at the Pittsburgh Steelers in a couple of weeks and or the following week and we’re saying, “Let’s go get a win in Dublin. Let’s go get a win against the Browns in London.” then, you know, 4- one still could possibly be on the table. But I just think they need to do whatever they can to get to at least 3-2. If you could get to 3-2, you got a solid chance at making the playoffs. But then again, the Viking schedule after the buy, I mean, it’s brutal. You start off at home versus the Eagles, short week on the road, Thursday night football against the Chargers and Jim Harbaugh. Then you’re on the road the following week in Detroit against the Lions. Then you come back after a physical game against the Lions. You got the Ravens coming to town. Then you got another divisional match up against the Bears. You’re in Lambo. You’re in Seattle. Commanders at home in Dallas in New York against the Giants. And you close it off with the Lions and the Packers at home. The Vikings, they’re in a tough spot. It’s a tough feeling, but I’ll quote QB1. Where else would you rather be? It wasn’t going to be easy. And us Vikings fans, you know, we have been so critical about not having postseason success. A lot of people this offseason were saying, “I don’t care about the regular season. I just want to get to the playoffs, win a playoff game.” Well, clearly we’re not peaking in September like we probably did last year. Hopefully just peak at the right time. But we’ll wait and see what happens. But coming up on today’s show, we’re going to talk about some of the Vikings problems and if they were exposed last night. And then I do want to give you guys my week three preview for the Bengals matchup as they’re heading to US Bank Stadium. And if you guys are ready to rock and roll, hit that thumbs up icon. Is be able in the building saying, “Patrick, I am seeing four more wins.” I disagree with you. Still a very good football team, very good coaching staff. Uh they just got to get their together. Like they just got to be better and they have the potential to do just that because you even saw the glimpses of them being a very good football team in that fourth quarter against the Bears. They were moving the ball up and down the field. Defense was making plays. Hargrave was getting in the back field. Gard was causing havoc. You know, we saw glimpses of this team, you know, hit that extra gear and hopefully they can replicate it. But it’s just a very disappointing day. Um, we come off a heartbreaking loss versus the Atlanta Falcons where you just do nothing offensively. And we get reports JJ’s got a high ankle sprain. Probably going to be out multiple weeks. You’re turning the keys to the offense over the Carson Wentz. It is uh, you know, it’s something is let me saying uh panic meter is already eight. I hear you. Um, my panic meter is definitely up there as well. Um, but Ryan saying give Wentz a chance. We 100% will. Like if Kevin Oonnell is who we think he is, he should be able to do enough with Wentz even with all the injuries to get a win against the Bengals. Like the Bengals got a backup quarterback, a terrible offensive line, a terrible defense. Heading into your own building, they should do enough to get a win. But again, it all falls back on the head coach, falls on Brian Flores. Can they get the most out of their groups? and we’ll wait and see how it plays out. But also, the one thing and then we’ll dive into the first segment. This is so detrimental to JJ’s development because I’m not saying he had three getable games, but you had probably the three three-w week easiest stretch of your schedule coming up. Bengals, Steelers, Browns. This was a good chance for JJ to kind of get his, you know, legs under himself to just get some high quality reps. And if he misses these next three games, are you just going to toss him into the fire after the buy against the Eagles? Well, we just saw what the Eagles did yesterday, the Patrick Mahomes. Obviously, they kicked his ass. It’s just tough. Like the Viking, it is tough. Like I, you know, woke up this morning and I was still feeling optimistic about this team. you know, I’m always going to take an optimistic view and sometimes that’s, you know, not the best way to think about it, but that’s just how I think about this football team. And I was thinking still big picture, you know, we’re going to be all right. I still believe in the quarterback JJ, but how it’s like with this injury, him losing valuable time, like not only was I already concerned in the short term, but now it’s also big picture long term. I’m definitely concerned. I am definitely concerned, but we’ll see once this team gets fully healthy. I mean, you were missing Blake Cashman, Van Ginkle, two of the key pieces defensively and also you without Christian Darasol, but we’ll talk about it. Um, Tristan D coming in saying if we get a top five pick, is KOC and Quzi fired? Uh, that’s a hell of a question. I don’t know if they would be fired after this one bad year, but let’s just say JJ really, even when he comes back, like he looks awful and he can’t get anything done and he just looks like a bonafide bust. like we’re all saying it, it’s bad. And even like Dallas Turner doesn’t work out, then I think Quzi would go first. Um, but they just extended both of them. So, I don’t think they would, you know, do that. But it’s definitely an interesting thought, Tristan. Um, it’s definitely starting to creep into the back of my mind like what if this is like a disastrous season like season from hell for the Minnesota Vikings where it’s like what if the Vikings set a record this year, the biggest regression of all time, 14 wins to like four or five wins. Maybe that’ll be on the table. Um, but man, this feeling I have right now, I’ve not felt this in a very long time. And maybe I’m just a little bit of a sicko, but I kind of like it. Like, nobody is believing in this team. The house is caving in. And if you guys remember before last season when JJ Torres miniscus, Addison had that high ankle sprain in that joint practice against the Cleveland Browns. This was after what happened with Kyrie Jackson. This was after what happened with Mai Blackman. That feeling we had where was like, “Oh, this season’s a throwaway. This is a rebuilding year.” And that Vikings team rallied. That’s the one thing about Kevin Oonnell, like when he is a hungry dog, he can spark a locker room. He can get this team to buy into whatever the hell he is pitching. And uh it’s a terrible feeling right now. You go get a win this Sunday. It can all change. It can all change. We’ll dive into the problems here in a second. Then also week three preview. And if you guys are ready to rock and roll, hit that thumbs up icon. Braden Beast um coming in with a $5 super chat saying, “I think KOC needs to change the playbook. I think the playbook was built for a pocket quarterback instead of a dual threat quarterback. Well, my biggest gripe with Okonnell has been just a short passing game. When I was going back and I was watching the film earlier today, especially in the first half, every route it felt like was 15 yards downfield. It’s like these huge deep crosses, which you know that’s Jefferson’s bread and butter. Those deep in routes, those deep crossers. He loves attacking that middle of the field. But it’s also KO’s got to understand. If your offensive line is getting their ass kicked, you got no running game. Let’s just get the ball out quick. Get JJ in rhythm. He’s got no quick passing game. The one play I actually liked it was on a second and seven situation in the second half. The Vikings just ran all hitches and that’s when he found Adam Thielen there. Um and I wish KO had more of that. So yeah, I agree with you Braden Beast. he needs to, you know, upgrade this playbook or just have a different style of playbook for a different style of quarterback. Like last year, Kevin Okcono’s offense was perfect for a guy like Sam Darnold, a gunslinger. He’s not afraid to push the ball down the field, ended up working out. He had a career year, and that kind of same archetype of quarterback is the style of quarterback that Carson Wentz is. So, that does leave me some hope. But yeah, when McCarthy’s back out there, get him some more quick looks. Like, get that quick passing game going. use Jefferson as maybe more of a possession wide receiver. Um, and you also just got to get freaking Justin Jefferson the football more. But we’ll talk all all about that coming up. I got a lot of thoughts on KO and uh just his offensive philosophy and his game plan. After going back and just watching the film, it uh you know, normally it’s not as bad as you think it is, but after re-watching it, it is like very concerning what they did last night. And also fun fact before we dive into it. The Vikings have had 10 third and two or less situations this season. That’s the most in the NFL. The Vikings have picked up a first down on four of those. So they are four of 10 on third down when it’s third and two or less. The season average across the NFL last season was 72%. So they are 32% behind the average of last year in those third and two situations. And that was a problem with Kevin Okonnell last year, him coming out in the gun, him just still trying to throw the ball because he just cannot for some reason he just does not have faith. And maybe it’s a personnel thing and maybe he just does not trust that interior of the offensive line to get a good enough push. But now he’s got a good running back in Mason. Like you toss big money up front. his refusal to run the ball in those situations is incredibly concerning. And the fact that they’re four of 10 in those situations is also very concerning. So, we’ll dive into today’s show. If you guys are ready to rock and roll, hit that thumbs up icon. 133 people in the building. Let’s even get five more likes. Um, then we’ll dive on into it. Appreciate everybody for uh tuning in today. Definitely a dark day to be a Vikings fan, but uh we’ll bounce back. It’s all going to be okay. sun came up this morning and we’re just in the thick of it right now. You know, we are uh 100% in the thick of it. So, we’ll dive into this show. Appreciate everybody for tuning in. If you guys are ready to roll, hit me with a skull down below in the live chat. Let’s dive into it. [Music] What’s going on everybody? Welcome to the Vikings Now by Chad Sports. My name is Patrick Seman and coming up on today’s show, I dove back into the film last night. I was watching the All 22 and I think the Vikings had a lot of problems exposed last night versus the Atlanta Falcons. And I do want to get you guys all of the PFF grades from that week 2 matchup on Sunday Night Football. But before we dive into it, if you guys could help us reach our next milestone on the channel. We’re actually closing in here on 60 and a half,000 subs. We just need 110 more subscribers. Obviously, with this JJ McCarthy injury news, should be getting updates all throughout the week, even the weeks after. So, if you guys want to stay on top of everything around your favorite football team, I’ll be your go-to guy. Hit that subscribe button today. Just need 110 more of you guys to hit that sub button. All right, we got to talk about the offensive line. Uh the offensive line was pitiful yesterday. It was an embarrassing performance for all five guys. You know, the offensive line is a unit. Like, they’re connected at the hip. Like, you can obviously highlight one or two guys that played bad, but across the board, they were terrible. And the PFF grades show that Justin School filling in for Christian Darasaw. He was terrible week one versus the Bears. He was bad again last night. 49.7 overall grade. Donovan Jackson, fantastic against the Bears. Huge regression last night for him. 44.4 overall PFF grade. Ryan Kelly solid, but he left the lineup uh midway through that game. And then Wolf Rise gave him a 5-year $88 million deal. He looked bad. 49.8 overall PFF grade. Brian O’Neal solid. Had a penalty though. Um, but at least Brian O’Neal was like the only positive on this offensive line. And the guys that filled in, uh, Walter Rouse filled in for Justin School, excuse me. Even when he filled in, he wasn’t good. 53.3 overall grade. Michael Jurgens filled in for Ryan Kelly, he was bad as well. 57.0. So, even the backups didn’t play well. Nobody on the offensive line played well besides maybe Brian O’Neal, but even then, you know, he had a down game for his standard and just nobody was able to get any push up front. And I can’t wait for this guy to come back. Christian Darasaw. Kevin Oonnell still hasn’t confirmed if he’s going to play in this week three matchup. I hope he will because I don’t know if he’s the most valuable player in the NFL, but when he is not in the lineup, this offensive line is bad. Like it was bad last year. Um the interior push was terrible and it’s kind of more of the same. Like that’s what was also so concerning about this Falcons game. It felt like the Lions and Rams game from this past season. The exact same. No push up front. Your quarterbacks getting their ass handed to them. And without Christian Darasol, you can’t protect their blind side. So hopefully CD gets back soon. But KOC talked about the offensive line earlier today saying this, saying there were definitely some times where guys got beat on some one-on-one situations. Got to go back and see exactly what kind of happened there. But you felt it certainly in the first half there. The sacks came from a lack of execution sometimes on that down. Sometimes it’s on a previous down. And there’s no doubt the offensive line should improve throughout the year. But it was an absolute joke yesterday. And they should improve on two fronts. Number one, getting a top five left tackle in the league back. That should improve it. But also number two, just that continuity. You know, I thought the continuity and chemistry would be a lot better with Ryan Kelly and Wolf Rice coming from the Colts, but clearly they don’t have it. you know, twist concepts. We’re giving the Vikings fits yesterday and also with Donovan Jackson, him regressing from week one to week two, that’s a concern. So, you’re hoping Donovan Jackson gets better, Christian Darasol gets back, they build more continuity and chemistry and hopefully that fiveman front is able to, you know, cook up something here in the second half of the year, but definitely concerned about that offensive line. And then, you know, obviously JJ McCarthy just getting word that he is going to be probably out two to four weeks with a high ankle sprain, but I thought his inexperience was on full display yesterday. And his spray chart from yesterday’s game is also incredibly concerning. Like one of the one, you know, red flags on his scatter coming out was he can’t throw left. And it kind of seems like Kevin O’Connell doesn’t trust him throwing left. And, you know, I do like that he’s able to hit the intermediate routes. He was able to hit that deep shot to Jefferson. You know, that one picky threw the Billy Bowman when he was intending to pass for Jaylen Naylor. I thought Naylor could have made, you know, better effort on the ball. Um, but still JJ McCarthy’s inexperience was on full display yesterday. And, you know, I went back and I was watching the tape and there was just a lot of there was a lot of bad coming from that. And you know, I will say the one thing with McCarthy, you got to respect his toughness because he was able to stick in the pocket and you know, obviously dealing with that high ankle sprain, but after watching the offensive film, a couple of takeaways I had. Number one, Kevin Oonnell, no quick game, like the amount of times, especially in that first half, it’s just 20 yard route, 20 yard route, 21 yard or 20 yard route. It’s just like, dude, look yourself in the mirror a little bit here. Your offensive line is getting destroyed up front. your quarterback’s got happy feet. How are you possibly calling some of these plays? Like, I am not getting up here and saying I know more about the game of football or especially NFL offensive game planning compared to Kevin Oonnell. I probably know less than 1% than what he does. But it was also fairly obvious if you toss on the film. Too many deep routes, no quick game whatsoever. And we saw the Falcons adjust yesterday. Michael Pennix bringing the blitz. All right, let me just get the ball out quick. Let me get the run game going. You know, clearly the Vikings aren’t allowing us to throw the ball downfield. So, we’re going to adjust. But Kevin O’Connell didn’t adjust. He has not made adjustments in these big-time games yet as a Vikings head coach. And I even think week one against the Bears, that was more about the players just playing better in the fourth quarter. I don’t think that was really about KC, you know, completely adjusting his game plan and he was really opening it up. So, there was no quick game. And I will give JJ some credit. He made some big time throws yesterday. Two throws that really impressed me. It was at third and 18. Adam Theland running a super deep out delivered an absolute seed. And then the next one, Jaylen Naylor after that same exact play, he threw an absolute seed to Naylor. So, he made some big time throws, but also the tight end, TJ Hawinson, he might be cooked. Um, we were all hoping TJ was going to have a massive bounceback year. You know, we’re under the thought process that, you know, Hawk, he was dealing with that, you know, torn ACL still. He was rehabbing all last year, so that’s why he had a down year, but tight ends, they age fast in the NFL. And I think TJ, with all the injuries he’s had, he just looks slow. Drops are still an issue. Like really, and it’s crazy to say, and this is almost a bad thing for Hawinson. The best part about his game is blocking, and he’s not that good of a blocker. So, Hawinson did not look good when I tossed back on the film. And also, wide receivers couldn’t separate. Uh, mainly Adam Thielen. Even Justin Jefferson couldn’t really separate that that much yesterday. Um again, Jefferson was also uh he was getting double and triple teamed at an all-time rate in that game. Like there was a safety over the top always, but that should open up other opportunities for atheen or a Naylor. Naylor looked actually uh pretty solid, but Theelin couldn’t separate. Hawk couldn’t separate. Then uh then at the end of the day, JJ just got his ass kicked. Um, and it’s very disappointing. Like the Vikings offensive line just left this kid out to dry and there’s really nothing he could do and now he’s got a high ankle sprain. And we’ll see how he tries to respond. But it is just uh very disappointing when you go back and watch that film yesterday because JJ, he just couldn’t handle himself. He got happy feet in the pocket, started patting the football like Kirk Cousins. Uh just didn’t feel comfortable. So if you guys want to show JJ McCarthy some love, type those nines down below. It’s going to be a long road for him to uh get where we want him to go and this ankle injury just sets him behind the eightball. So, we’ll see how he responds. But if you guys want to show JJ McCarthy some love, if you’re not giving up just yet, think about this. High ankle sprain, third string left tackle, second string center, second career start, 22 years old. I’m not selling my JJ McCarthy stock. Honestly, I’m buying it right now because we’re at the dip. It should be only up from here. If you guys want to show him some love, type those nines down below. Now, we’ll get to more uh problems that were revealed for this Vikings team here in a second, but today’s episode is brought to you by Prize Pix. And you and I make decisions every day. It’s good to be right. All right. Something else that was uh incredibly concerning is Justin Jefferson’s usage. The man is too good to only have 13 targets through two weeks. And his season stats through two games look like his per game averages. Seven receptions, 125 yards, a touchdown, only 13 targets. It’s just not good enough. Like he’s too good of a football player. Like we saw Bejian Robinson yesterday, the Falcons, you know, best player on their team. They saw or we saw how uh they got him going and the Vikings couldn’t get number 18 going. And it kind of gets back to, you know, KOC not having a quick passing game. Like use Jefferson, quick slants, quick outs. He’s a nasty route runner. I understand his bread and butter is over the middle of the field. those deep long crossing routes and you know those deep corners and all that, but sometimes you got to switch it up when the defense is taking away. How you don’t allow the double teams to come to him? How you get him going in the quick passing game? So, his usage was a concern. And also, the offense misses Jordan Addison. Like Jefferson was getting doubled and triple teamed at an all-time rate yesterday. And there’s no doubt in my mind that this team misses JA because other wide receivers, they’re not good enough. Like nobody besides Jefferson could separate last night and that’s what was so concerning. Like Naylor got open a couple of times, but they just missed Jordan and Addison. Like Addison one of these and I don’t know if it’s just a combination of the offensive line and maybe the Vikings could have done a better job managing this time without Addison, but nobody could separate besides 18. So I cannot wait to have number three back. And lastly, kind of sum up everything we’ve been talking about. Kevin Oonnell can’t adjust. And at least last night he didn’t. And it still feels like when his offensive line is having a bad game and he kind of gets off his script, he can’t really adjust and go to something else. Like it kind of feels like KOC. He’s got he’s like a pitcher in baseball who’s got two fantastic pitches. He’s got that 100 mph fast ball. He’s got a nasty slider, but that’s it. If you can clamp down on the fast ball, you can clamp down on the slider. There’s really not much left to be desired in that offense. And where is it, Kevin O’Connell, you talked about the short passing game, you talked about having a dominant run game. We haven’t seen it just yet. And what’s so concerning with the run game, too, is Jordan Mason’s looked amazing. And you’re not feeding more into that. Jordan Mason’s your second best player on offense. It’s not Naylor. It’s not Hawinson. It’s not Then, it’s Jordan Mason besides Justin Jefferson. So, get that man the football. No run game, no quick passing game. It’s kind of the same old same old story that we’ve been talking about with the Minnesota Vikings. But, I’ll ask you guys this. What is your biggest concern with this Vikings team? Two weeks in, we’re one and one, not looking good. You guys let me know what is your biggest concern with this team. I do want to close it out here giving you guys the highest PFF grades from uh last night’s game. Shout out to Theo Jackson actually the highest graded Viking overall and actually funny enough I don’t know if this is more of a Brian Flores stat that all three safeties are the top three highest graded defenders but Jay Ward Josh I actually thought Mattelis had a hell of a game um even Theo Jackson as well. Then you had Isaiah Rogers at four. Again, the top the top five highest graded defenders. We’re starting to get into this, you know, high 50s and low 60s here. So, nobody really played that well according to them. But Tier Ingram Dawkins also on that list. And then the lowest graded defenders. Not good. Javon Hargrave, Jonathan Allen. Also, I think we’re about one more game away from having a conversation with the Vikings with Ben Ivan Pace. Ivan Pace has not been good. He’s a onetrick pony. He he is the typical C ball get ball. That’s it. He cannot cover. He cannot man up on anybody. And if other teams see him manned up, they’re just attacking it. So Ivan Pace hasn’t been good. Gennard had a low grade. I don’t really understand that. And uh you know, same with Dwight McGloin as well. But offensively, Brian O’Neal, highest graded offensive player. Jordan Mason up there. TJ Hawinson somehow up there. I don’t know how that is possible. I guess just the run blocking department. um got his PFF grade up to 70.6, but Adam Thean went up there as well. And a tough day for Donovan Jackson, 44.4 overall grade. McCarthy obviously didn’t play well, 49.4. Justin School was terrible, 49.3. Will Fry’s bad as well, 49.8. And Walter Rouse filling in for uh school didn’t look good as well. 53.3. So overall, it’s been a tough 24 hours for the Minnesota Vikings. But if you guys made it to the end of today’s show, we appreciate you. Just hit me with a skull down below in the comments section and we’ll catch you guys next time. As always, skull bikes. Alrighty. We got some super chats rolling in there. Roger Bong, what’s going on, man? You guys are going at each other in the in the chat right now. JJ McCarthy is a polarizing player. Everybody’s got a take around him. Um, we’ll see what happens, man. We’ll see what happens. Tristan, what’s going on? Quzy and KOC put all their chips on JJ McCarthy, Sam Dh Darnold, Aaron Rogers, and Jones all look good. JJ sucks this year, they should be fired. Listen, that’s a good argument. Like, like if Sam Darnold and Rogers, let’s just say they both make the playoffs, and Daniel Jones, for example, the three quarterbacks you could have brought in, they all make it and JJ doesn’t with this team. Yeah. Like I don’t know about getting fired, but you could at least hear me out on an argument. Like it’s not like if you said that to me, if the Vikings go five and 12 this year and the offense looks bad the entire year, a lot of these draft picks don’t end up working out. Like if you tell me I think KOC and Quzy should get fired, it’s not like I’m going to look at you side. I would disagree with you. I think they for sure should get this next season. And again, guys, this is the microwave society we live in. The Vikings have lost to three football teams in the last two seasons and we lose an embarrassing game on Sunday night and we’re already talking about firing the head coach, firing the GM. Just take a deep breath. This all could change. Still could be 4 in one rolling into the buy. That is 100% on the table. You just got to be better. But Tristan, I do appreciate you. Um, and then Braden Beast coming in. If Carson Wentz does good, do you bench McCarthy? We’ll see how good. Um, I’d be lying to you guys if I said that’s not on the table. Like, if Wentz goes three and0 and he throws maybe six touchdowns, no picks, and this offense looks fantastic, then yeah, that’s on the table. But again, like, everybody just needs to relax. Like, Carson Wentz was still a free agent right before the season for a reason. The Vikings still went and they chose to go with McCarthy over those other guys for a reason. They see the potential. They see the stones on this kid. So, everybody needs to just take a deep breath, relax. He’s 22 years old. And also, can I ask you guys something? I don’t have kids. Hopefully, I will at some point in my life, but I’ve never had a kid. For everybody who has had a kid, can you please tell me your thoughts on what that is like, especially your first kid going through? And then could you imagine that experience you just had with your wife having that beautiful, you know, first son or daughter, then you got to go play a football game 72 hours later. That’s a lot because that also that takes away from game planning. That takes away from his mental prep. Not only just missing that practice and getting those physical reps out there, that also takes away from his film study. He’s probably not sleeping a lot. Like it was just a lot on his plate. And uh yeah, McCarthy’s got a he’s got a long way to go, but he’s also 22. He had a lot on his plate this past week. Short week, had a kid, first kid ever, 22 years old. Third string left tackle, second string center, like like s fun. Yeah, poor guy had a kid. I’m not saying it’s a, you know, a poor guy situation. Um I’m just saying that takes away from his prep before the week. And I think you’re crazy if you disagree with that. Like there’s no doubt in my mind that JJ was not able to do as much as he wanted to this upcoming week or this past week because him becoming a father. Yeah. Everybody’s freaking out. Everybody’s freaking out. What’s excuse for quarters one through three? Uh that’s his first football game in over 600 days. That’s tough. That’s tough. just a tough spot, man. There’s a lot of pressure on him. Two prime time games as well. Um, that’s why I was hoping I was hoping he was going to get this Bengals game to kind of get his feet back under him and hopefully he kind of got in a rhythm, but I got to rehab that ankle. We’ll see what happens. I saw a funny tweet. It was uh what if JJ McCarthy is Trey Lance and Max Bromer’s Brock Perie? Thoughts on that? Oh, me too, Lego fella. I’m so happy we’re out of prime time. That noon start is going to be glorious. I cannot wait. Uh cuz I thought they were going to be a contender at the end of the season cuz you Vikings fans, you keep criticizing Kevin Okonnell for not winning playoff games. You guys tell me, you know, who cares about the regular season? Who cares if you win 14, 13 games? Just get to the playoffs and win a playoff game. That’s all that’s that’s what you guys have been telling me. So then why are we freaking out in September? It is September 15th and we’re acting like the season’s over. Just everybody needs to be patient. That’s all I’ll say. But I do want to hop into this Bengals preview here. Um, if you guys are ready to rock and roll, we’ll dive into it. Yeah, Roger. Reel. I should play that Aaron Rogers clip for you guys. You said what? No. Rogers. They all call it excuses. I just kind of call it reality of the situation. Um, I’m not saying JJ McCarthy is blameless here. Uh, I don’t think his head coach had a good game. Offensive line got killed and uh, it just wasn’t good. Wasn’t good enough. So, we’ll see. But, let’s dive into this preview here. Appreciate everybody for tuning in. I’ve already had a thousand people join us today. But, uh, Vikings Bengals preview. It’s Brady then saying show Dylan. Dylan’s got a job to do right now. all these graphics. That’s what Dylan’s doing. Um, all right, but let’s dive into it. Vikings, Bengals, Jake Brownie vers Carson Wentz. Week three preview. Where else would you rather be? Let’s dive into it. [Music] What’s going on everybody? Welcome to the Vikings Now by Chat Sports as we are here to preview this week three matchup. Cincinnati Bengals traveling to US Bank Stadium to take on the Minnesota Vikings. And the Bengals are coming into this game with a 2-0 record. And the Vikings are 1 and one. And this game will feature two new quarterbacks for both teams. Jake Browning will be taking on Carson Wentz. What a time to be alive. But some topics we’ll be discussing, obviously the major injury news around both teams starting quarterbacks, Joe Burrow, JJ McCarthy. We do uh we will dive into a deep dive around the Cincinnati Bengals. They got five keys to victory and my score prediction at the tail half of today’s show. But you know, biggest news of this week three matchup, Jake Browning vers freaking Carson Wentz. Unbelievable. But if you guys want the Vikes to hop back in the win column, move to two and one on the season, hit that thumbs up icon and put today’s goal as 500 likes. I think we can get there. A lot of Vikings fans are being negative nies. are down on this team saying the season’s over. Let’s just get a win on Sunday and hopefully we turn this season around. So, if you guys want the Vikes to get a win, hit that thumbs up button. All right, so the breaking NFL news um that dropped earlier on today or yesterday when you guys are seeing this video, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will need toe surgery that will sideline him a minimum of three months. Now, it is turf toe. He’s got some torn ligaments in that toe and it’s uh honestly depressing news obviously for Bengals fans but for NFL fans like this is one of the better quarterbacks in the league, top four guy. Um, and he just has caught that injury bug, you know, three out of the last five seasons. And, you know, it’s very disappointing that, you know, being an NFL fan, I love watching good quarterback play that Joe Burrow is going to be out for three months. But that means another revenge game could be brewing for this guy. Car or I was say Carson Wentz, Jake Browning. Um, last week Jake Browning build in for Joe Burrow. was 21 to 32, had 241 yards, two touchdowns, did throw three interceptions. So, he will toss the football your way. And if you guys remember, the Vikings played the Bengals back in 2023. It was one of those Saturday NFL Network games. It was an ugly, ugly game. Ended up going to overtime. And Browning played his tail off. And this is what he said to the camera after beating the Vikings in 2023, saying, “You should have never effing cut me.” And this guy was fired up. Obviously, he was pissed off about it. He had that extra chip on his shoulder and I’m sure that is still there. So, Browning’s going to be coming in this game trying to get his uh revenge on this Vikings team for a second time and he’ll be filling in for Joe Burrow. But this does not mean this is now just going to be a walk in the park for the Minnesota Vikings considering all the injuries they have. The Vikings, see who’s the 49ers in terms of the most beat up teams in the NFL. I mean, his injury report is lengthy. Christian Darasaw TBD if he’ll go. Harrison Smith, who knows when he’ll be back. You’re assuming he’ll get a Cuda. Andrew Van Ginkle back. Justin School probably won’t go. Ryan Kelly, I’m guessing he doesn’t go in this game considering his histories with concussions in the past. That’s got Aaron Jones, he has already been ruled out for this game. Blake Cashman’s out, TJ Ham out, and Ty Chandler all out. So, the Vikings got a lot of big-time injuries and none bigger than the quarterback JJ McCarthy. News broke yesterday. He suffered a high ankle sprain and he’s considered weak to week. Um, also Adam Shfter tweeted out saying this should be a two to four-week injury for JJ McCarthy. And they’re expecting Carson Wentz to start. It’ll be Wentz verse Jake Browning. And I will say if you want to have an optimistic spin, as you guys say, I drink way too much purple Kool-Aid. You say I’m way too optimistic. None of these injuries are season ending. And ideally by week seven, we’re looking at this Vikings team and they’re healthy top to bottom. You’ll have Addison back. Christian Darasaw will be there, Van Ginkle, Cashman, hopefully JJ McCarthy. So at least a lot of these injuries aren’t like, you know, JJ’s out for the year, Darasaw’s out for the year. You know, thankfully they are not any of those. Um but they should be by or they should be at full strength by week seven. Um hopefully they get there. So that’s some good news there. But I do want to dive into the Bengals here, talk about what they’ve done to start this season. Um, they had a lot of uh, you know, noise around them in terms of, uh, them starting off fast and they did just that. They won their first two games, their first uh, week one game against the Cleveland Browns, AFC North rival in Cleveland. It was an ugly game. They kind of got lucky to win this. The Browns kicker missed some late clutch kicks, but they still came out on top 17 to 16. and Jake Browning last week down 27-24 had a game-winning drive, put the ball in the end zone with about 16 seconds left. So clearly, even though they’re without Joe Burrow, they’re at least trending in the right direction. But let’s dive into their, you know, some of their NFL ranks here. Uh yards per game, they’re actually 30th right now. Again, small sample size. It’s only two games, so I don’t like to put too much into this. I still think they’re very good, you know, offense overall, but at least just a passing offense because rushing the ball this year with Chase Brown and that shaky offensive line, they have not been able to do that. 47 rushing yards per game. So, the Vikings should be able to sell out, force Jake Browning to beat you. You got the home crowd. You still got Flores in his game. So, I can’t really see a world where like Jake Browning’s coming into this building and lighting them up. And then defensively, the numbers look better. But again, this is also one game against the Cleveland Browns and this is how they rank. 24th in yards per game, 26th in passing yards, 10th in rushing yards per game, 16th in points, and 29th on third down percentage. So clearly the defense is still veryable. They got one guy in Trey Hendrickson. I’ll tell you what, he’ll be lining up right over Walter Rouse, Justin School if they’re going. So that’s why you got to hope that Christian Darasaw is back in this one. But their coaching staff, they switched it up this offseason. They got a new defensive coordinator. Uh he was with Notre Dame um when they made the national championship. Al Golden, the DC now. Pretty intelligent guy. Um, got a lot of respect for him across the NFL circles. So, he is a highly regarded DC. You also got Dan Pitcher as their offensive coordinator. Then, Zack Taylor. Is it just a Joe Burrow merchant? Probably. But, he’s still the head coach. Won a lot of big time games, made a Super Bowl. So, at least they have a good coaching staff, at least in my opinion. But, we’ll see what happens. But, I’ll dive into my keys to victory here in a second. Give you guys my score prediction. But, you guys predict the score first. Vikings, Bengals, what do you got? How are you guys feeling about this one? I know it’s all doom and gloom in Vikings world right now and fans are acting like everything just, you know, went the hell over the last 48 hours. You guys predict the score for me. Vikings Bengals week three, US Bank Stadium. Now, prize picks, it’s good to be right. All right, so if the Vikings want to beat the Bengals, it’s got to start up front and it’s got to start with the defense because even though the offense has struggled, I thought the defense has been pretty damn good. You still got elite front four. Hopefully got Van Ginkle back. you still will be without Blake Cashman. Maybe you get Harrison Smith back. Um, but the defense needs to dominate. Like the Bengals, if they score three touchdowns, you’re probably going to lose this game. So, you got to hold them under 20. And Flores should be telling KC, get to 20 plus points and we should win this game. And number two, how do you help get there? Jordan Mason. Jordan Mason. This guy is probably the second best player on offense. Without Christian Darasaw, TJ Hawinson’s cooked. Still no Jordan Addison. This is your second best weapon. And you haven’t been able to run the ball under Kevin Okconor for the last three seasons. We finally have a good running back. There’s really no excuse personnel-wise in my opinion to not have a good run game. And that starts with Jordan Mason. Aaron Jones won’t be playing here. So, he should be getting 20 to 25 carries. If you play fantasy football, please oh please start him this week. But number three, let Wes cook. I think let W cook. You just let this guy uncork it. You know, obviously Kevin Oonnell, he likes those big arm quarterbacks that like to push the ball down the field, likes to take a lot of chances. That is the archetype that Carson Wentz is at the quarterback position. So maybe KOC will kind of hop in his Sam Darnold bag. I don’t know if it’s just a red hair with Wentz, but maybe you let him cook up a little bit. And listen, would I be shocked if we leave this game and it’s like, oh snap, Carson Wentz had 250 and three. Kevin Okonnell did it again. No, not tough to say that right now considering how we feel about the head coach and the poor for uh poor performance he put out there this past Sunday night. But what if Carson Wentz has a little Sam Darnold, little Daniel Jones in him? He can just step in for a game or two, give this offense a spark. Hope he can go out there and execute. And number four, you got to get 18 going. You know, this game is going to be personal for Justin Jefferson. He’s lining up across the field. Not exactly, but he’s got his best friend Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase across the field. Obviously, Burrow not playing, but you know, he’s going to want to try to, you know, outplay Chase. You know, he’s going to want to get it done. So, you’re going to have to get him going. And if they’re doubling and triple teaming him, okay, then you got to let the other guys get going as well. Hawk’s going to have to have a bounceback game. The going to have to do something. Maybe they get Jaylen Naylor going, but you have to get number 18 going first. Get the quick passing game going. Not everything has to be 20 yards down the field. You can have him run five yard out, five yard ins. Just some way to manufacture some offense his direction. And lastly, win the turnover battle. Kevin Oonnell’s got the highest winning percentage in NFL history when his team wins the turnover battle. That’s a great stat for a head coach. And especially when you have a backup quarterback in there now with Carson Wentz, that’s even more important. So this game for the Vikings, it’s going to have to be a little ball control. It’s going have to be leaning into the run. I feel like this is going to be a very vanilla game plan for the Vikings, but that might be the best way to find success. Got to win the turnover battle. Defense has to dominate. You got to run the football. If you do those three things, then these two other things can get going. Then you can let Wentz Cook, you can get Justin Jefferson going. But then my score prediction, I got the Vikings winning this one. I got them bouncing back. I’m going to go Vikings 24, Bengals 20. Am I feeling great about this? Absolutely not. But you’re at home. You’re playing a Bengals team that’s really not that good with a backup quarterback. They lost their best player. You still should win this football game. JJ McCarthy or not, injuries or not. You got to protect the bank. Go get a win. Move to two in one. Then we’ll go across the pond, handle business against Aaron Rogers and the Cleveland Browns. But let me ask you guys this. What is your confidence level in the Vikings beating the Bengals? How are you feeling? Scale it for me 1 to 10 down below in the comments section. You guys let me know your thoughts. We’ll get on out of here. Appreciate everybody for watching. As always, skull bikes. All righty. You guys are a hostile environment today in the live chat going at each other. Oh, listen. We’re going to get on out of here. Just wanted to chop it up with you guys. Talk about McCarthy. Um, disappointing day. Disappointing day. But, uh, listen, appreciate everybody for watching today’s live stream. You got another video coming out later today, so keep your eyes peeled for that. And, uh, we’ll see you guys next time. As always, go bikes.

  1. YOU were talking crazy believing this team is super bowl quality. the Viking offense looks like they are uncoached offense. tarkington won his first game that was his last win that season you people are stupid

  2. Lots of work to do, but anything is possible. Wentz was once a great qb and if he can be serviceable we might actually be better lol. That said, dude def needs protection and I hope JJ I alright. 2 years in a row is hard to start your career!

  3. Ok so yes they looked bad, it’s gonna take time,Who knows how much,it’s the 2nd game it’s not going to be a dominant type year, I hope I’m wrong, my expectations took a hit,, but it is only week 2, we’ll have to wait and see?

  4. As a die hard Vikings fan this is gonna happen we're gonna have ups and downs but I trust this team and organization. This so far from over and I have a feeling will be back and better then ever skol Vikings a for life baby💜😈

  5. Kwesi promised us the trenches would be the biggest difference this year and guess what he fails again and I hate that Vikings fans aren’t talking about Ivan pace being absolutely horrible

  6. Cannot believe not calling a timeout after the Nailor catch at the 2 yard line. Rushed play calling turned into delay of game…changed momentum and altered possible outcome

  7. When your left tackle can't seem to protect the quarterback, wouldn't it make sense to dedicate a tight end to helping him block? This is an honest question. I sure as heck no expert on football. If we can't protect the quarterback, it seems like we are just going to get Wenz injured as well.

  8. Anybody blaming McCarthy simply isn’t watching the game… the play callings been terrible and the O line is some of the worst I’ve seen… he just doesn’t seem to have any time on any play, skule was absolutely horrendous Sunday

  9. the oline is the culprit…they say JJ played good in only one of 8 quarters…that should be the oline, not JJ…i dont know how many QB could perform with those kind of sacks and pressures in those 7 quarters…and no running game to boot,,,COME ON MAN

  10. Shid thats good news. and if you think they won't let Wentz play his old team you tripn!😂Especially if he is decent. He doesn't even have to ball out. Just don't turn the ball over and man the ship. McCarthy is trash

  11. I don't know how good I feel about JJ or koc, and koc isn't what everyone thinks he is! Wentz is going to be fine, probably a blessing in disguise. And the answer is no we will not throw him in the fire against the eagles, Wentz will probably end up starting the rest of the year
