Giants vs. D-backs Game Highlights (9/15/25) | MLB Highlights

So here we go. A lot on the line. Potentially a wild card spot and certainly the tiebreaker if it should come to that in the season series. Currently tied at five apiece. The Giants have a record of 75 and 74. They’re currently one and a half games behind the Mets for the third and final wildcard spot. The Arizona Diamondbacks. They are 75 and 75. And when you look at the standings, the Dbacks are two games behind the Mets for the third and final wildcard spot. The Dbacks don’t totally control their own destiny, but you win this series given the recent form of the New York Mets and the Diamondbacks will likely find themselves within a game of that third and final wildcard spot. Who could have possibly imagined that they would be in this spot? The big story is Bryce Eldridge is here now. It’s not that unusual for a guy to be called up in September, get a few at bats, maybe meaningless games. That is not the case tonight for the kid. Absolutely not. He’s a big prospect. We’ve been watching him hit homers for a while in the minor leagues and now it’s his time. And he’s not here just to get a taste. He’s here to help us win now. So, here we go. Time for baseball in Phoenix. Big night for the Giants. Huge games, all of them. Now, the pitcher, the veteran right-hander, a guy the Giants have faced many times over the years, and it could be one of his last starts in a Diamondback’s uniform. He’s a free agent at the end of the year. Right-hander Zack Gallon was not really having a very typically Zack Gallon-like season. And yet he has pitched very well the last few times out. One away. And here is Willie Adam called strike three. And there it is. Strikeout number 1,000 as a diamond back for Zack Gall. It’s really key getting those first two guys out facing this guy Raphael Devers. De’s going to play some first base today. Wang and a miss. went back to that change up and Denver slams the helmet down. Two strikeouts and a one, two, three first for Zack Gallon. It’s a 26-year-old native of Taiwan. Kaiwe 10 is making his sixth start of the season. It’ll be his seventh appearance on the year. And it has not been pretty. Two and four with a 7.54 ERA, having allowed 19 earned runs in 22 and two/3 innings pitched. Well, you want to summarize command issues in the span of two batters. A four pitch walk and a hit by pitch. So, the first two guys are aboard. Here is Corbin Carroll. Swing and a miss. He struck him out and got him to chase a fast ball away. And now here is the DH Mareno. Delivers. Swing and a miss. He struck him out. What a tale of four hitters. Well, here is Bla1 Alexander trying to tough it out after just getting drilled in the elbow in his final at that of the afternoon yesterday. And that one is off the plate and Pomo going to try and take third. The throw not in time and the Dbacks have them on the corners here with two down. There’s a check on Marte and Tang throws it away. Catel gets second for home and the Diamondbacks have the lead. Tang just turned to make a pickoff throw to first and sailed it way over the head of Des. Oh, that’s a big time break right there. to get over on a pass ball and then an errant throw to first base. Scores a run. The pitch now, huh? Swing and a miss. He got three strikeouts in the inning. Did not give up a hit, but trails one- nothing. And here comes Eldridge. You can hear his rooting section. 25 plus family members, friends, all out here to root him on. The first major league at bat for Bryce Eldridge. 3-2 pitch. Swing and a hard ground ball right to first. That’s gloved cleanly by Vargas who takes it to the bag. Two down now and that’ll bring up McCann. The pitch swing and a miss. Struck him out swinging and we head to the third. Patrick Bailey to lead off against Zack Gallon as the one two is strike three called. Bailey goes down watching here. So now Casey Schmidt Schmidt batting eighth with Eldridge in there. Casey hitting eighth. That makes his Giants lineup look pretty deep. He hits one high. He hits it deep. It is out of here to the left of 413. He cranked that one out. 3-1 fast ball. And Casey Schmidt, you said time to get hot. That’s a great way to get it going. His 11th home run of the year. And that ties the game. Of the things that have made 2025 a year to forget for Gallon at times. It is the home run ball. His 29th home run he has allowed that this year. That is close towards the most in the majors. Jung-ho draws the walk to give Adamus a chance. Here’s the pitch. Swing and a miss. He struck him out. Two strikeouts in the third, but the Giants respond with a solo homer to tie it at one. And that’s the first Diamondback hit. Who else but Heraldo Purdomo? So that’ll bring up Corbin Carroll with two outs. That is strike three call. He threw the slider and it just locked Carol up. One out for Matt Chapman. dropped the curve ball in there and Zack picks up strikeout number five and the second big league at bat for Bryce Eldridge. Swing and a miss. Went after the curve. He struck him out and that’s a one, two, three. Top of the fourth inning. One out. Nobody on for Bla1 Alexander. One, two, swung on and lined into center field. That’s a one out base hit by Alexander. Fargas just missed the homer by about 10 15 ft. And now Alec Thomas. Oh, one pitch. Thomas bounces it softly. Divers ranging way to his right. Fields it backhand style. Pivots the body and throws back across his body to Kaiwe Tang covering. Man, I think Devers would make a pretty good quarterback. So, two down and here comes Casey Schmidt. And he dumps one into right for a base hit. And here comes Drew Gilbert. One, two is in the air right center field. And Carol will move over and make the catch. It took five change ups against Gilbert, but he finally gets a third out. Corbin Carroll leading off the last of the sixth inning for the Dbacks. Left-handed hitter against the lefty Gage. Here’s a base hit for Corbin to get it started. It’s in the gap and here he goes. Lee gets to it in center and Corbin has a leadoff double. So now Moreno coming up for the Giants. The righthander will come into the game. And that is Joel Pagaro. He misses upstairs at 99. Two on to start the six. And I think everyone is expecting the Diamondbacks here to lay down a sacrifice spun. This is an opportunity to get two guys in scoring position. Sometimes you just need to play for one run. Didn’t offer. And they’re loaded. Dbacks are really in business here. You got a chance to break this game open. And we have a violation now on Ilamaro Vargas. Well, it really helped him out there. And a guy that’s really having a difficult time throw strikes. Vargas base hit. Corbin scores. They’re going to wave Gabby. Here’s the throw and it’s cut off. They got Vargas hung up. Blaze is at third. He’ll stay there. Vargas surrenders, but the Diamondbacks get two home. It’s a two-run single and the Diamondbacks now take a three to one lead. clutch 100 miles an hour fast but had a lot of the middle of the plate and he just drilled it to right field on the ground two RBI’s so now Joey Lucasy coming in for the Giants pen and now pinch hitting for Alec Thomas it is going to be the right-handed hitting Jordan Lawler Lawler drives it deep to left it’s on its way and he just missed it Jordan Lawler with the RBI double such a sweet swing from Lawler and he was denied his first major league homer by maybe two feet. What a great contribution off the bench. Four to one Arizona. James McCann 0 for two steps in against the lefty Lucasy. McCann swing sends a high deep drive left field. McCann likes it. He loves it cuz it’s gone. It’s a two-run shot as the Diamondbacks start to pour it on in the sixth. James McCann second consecutive game with a home run and they have broke this thing open at six to one. Now ground ball toward the middle over to his right to get the ball is Schmidt. He turns and throws it in the dirt to first base and Des can’t handle it. Talked about Rafie Des not played a lot of first base in his career. Just about 20 starts this year. Couldn’t quite complete that one. And now here is Heraldo Purdomo. He’s the eighth Diamondback to come to the plate here in this inning. Hazy still has not recorded an out. And he still has him. Purdomo splits the gap. Go Jake go. McCarthy flying around third. Purdomo heads for third. He’s got the RBI triple. Purdomo. Have yourself a night. A sixrun sixth. Seven to one Arizona. And after a six-run inning, it’s a leadoff walk. And here comes Eldridge. One-1. He swings and drives one out to left center field going back on the ball and leaping to make the catch as Barrosa. Bryce Eldridge. Oh, so close to his first big league hit. There are two down to bring up Jake McCarthy. Line drive. That’s a falling in left field. And McCarthy going to make the turnaround first. He’s digging for second as Ramos lost the ball. Tried to pick it up with the bare hand and he muffed it. And McCarthy’s into second with a hustle double hands for Purdomo who’s reached all four times he’s been up there. What else is new? Laces one to right center and he’s on board for the fifth time. McCarthy’s home. Herodo Pernomo drives in another run. Two walks, a single, a double, and a triple. The Giants are down to their final out of the night. Popped up. Gel is under it and the Diamondbacks have leapfrogged the Giants and they have moved ahead of San Francisco in the race for that final National League wild card spot and they are right behind the New York Mets as they take the opener eight to
