I know a guy who was not familiar with kickoff rules

Do you recognize this former AllPro returner ?
Maybe Coach Danny Gum is not a wizard and he is just lucky to have fkin HOF Boz or an occasional Ramsey/Heyward hand to block a few kicks.

You guys do realize they work on this stuff constantly, right? We’re talking about a rookie who has hardly touched the ball all season, fumbled in his first game, and just speed runs all kick returns right into the nearest tackler. I have no doubt he knew the rule but he 100% just froze and slipped his mind. That’s not on coaching.
The part that IS on coaching is having him out there returning kicks to begin with.
It’s like it’s a coaching trend or something
Remember when we couldn’t field free kicks in 17-18?
Kaleb’s mistake was more costly but Gunner toe tapping the kickoff was one of the funniest plays in NFL history.
“Ramsey” lol
That gunner play boils my blood
Kaleb Johnson was right, I disagree with the effort, but he was right. He never touched it, I watched it a million times. They fucked us.
What the hell is Danny Smith supposed to do about an experienced NFL vet who had been in the same role on several teams making a mistake like this?
I don’t care that he didn’t know. I’m not gonna pretend like I knew. But when you see everyone still sprinting after the ball once it goes over your head, idk man, you should probably run after it as well. Just in case.
On the return 1 or 2 before yesterday’s infamous one, our returner fielded the ball close enough to the sideline that it probably would have gone out for the penalty otherwise.
I have to think that the coaches or fellow players might have said something to the returners after that play that somehow led to a rookie’s wires getting crossed and making a play that just looked like so much lazy nonchalance.
God I can’t believe I’m gonna say this but,, I think we gotta get Cordarelle Patterson off the coach.

Blaming the coach for both of these idiotic mistakes is crazy. 100% on the players.

Barry Foster did this versus the Niners in 1990.
