Dan Marino thinks Dolphins are ‘capable’ of turning around 0-2 start | SportsCenter

It’s kind of been a list, a revolving door of quarterbacks, if you will, since the great Dan Marino was the starting quarterback. 26 and all have started since Dan Marino was the quarterback there. That list is long and probably not distinct. Wish this man Hall of Famer Dan Marino stopped playing for the Dolphins. Uh, first of all, Dan, happy birthday to you. Thanks for hopping on on your birthday. What are your plans? Oh, yeah. Well, my plans are uh hang out with you guys a little bit here on camera and uh my family I’m in Vegas actually. I know there’s a game tonight here on Monday night, but uh my family’s here. My one daughter works out here, so I’ll get a chance to see her and have dinner with her. That’s that’s a great place to celebrate a birthday. You’re never going to go wrong there. Um as for this year’s version of the Dolphins, they dropped to 0 and2 after losing to the Patriots yesterday, but I just said a moment ago a much improved Tua from week one. What did you see? Um, you know, I I I I saw a chance for us to win and our guys our guys, our Dolphin guys played hard, you know, and two played hard, too. And, you know, a lot of NFL games, they come down to the end and and and and every coach will tell you that. And the thing is, we just didn’t get it done right at the end there. And it uh hurt I think it hurt the players, it hurt the fans, and and uh it’s just uh it’s a part of the business. And you know we we could have won that game uh just with a few plays at the end and it was a shame that a chain stepped out of bounds there and then it after that you know we didn’t get a chance to you know to get a touchdown score to win. So you know I try to stay very optimistic on everything with the Dolphins and I’m going to I’m going to always be that way positive you know I love those guys and then uh hopefully they get to turn it around in Buffalo this week. Yeah you kind of led me there because look as you know there there’s so much football left to play. We’re two weeks into the season. So, how do Mike McDaniel and this team turn it around starting with Buffalo? Well, that’s just it. You got to have that mindset mindset to turn it around. You know, you got a short week. You got I feel like we got good players that can go in there and win the game. Uh, and I think that’s something that that the message that Mike is going to, you know, send to the players is, let’s let’s stay positive. You know, we lost. We got a short week. Uh, let’s get into this and see what we can do to beat the Bills up in Buffalo. It’s a tough task, but it’s, you know, we’re capable. I think last year we uh missed the Dolphins, you know, uh lost by a field goal, you know, at the last second. So, you know, we can beat them up there for sure. I mean, it’s a tough task, though. Yeah. Some of the breaking news this morning, as you may have heard, Joe Burrow, he’s going to have surgery on his toe and miss a minimum of three months. Uh you ruptured your Achilles week six back in 1993. What happens, Dan, to a team and the quarterback when the franchise player and the leader goes down? Well, you know, it’s a it’s crazy. It’s like they have you have to come from within. You know, it’s tough, you know, as as you know, that’s the guy you’ve been relying on. That’s your quarterback, that’s who you practice with each and every day. And especially a guy like Joe Burrow, who is, you know, an exceptional player. And to lose him, uh, is tough for any team. It’s tough for any team to lose their starting quarterback. But the other players around, they just got to step up. Next guy in line to back up. Got to, you know, put the team in position to uh win football games. And it’s a shame that he got hurt because he’s such an outstanding player. Yeah, it’s kind of that next man up mentality, especially when it goes down to players as valuable as Joe Burrow. You had mentioned a second ago, Monday Night Football. We do have a double header, Bucks and Texans, then Chargers and Raiders in Vegas where you are today. Uh let’s start with Baker Mayfield. I’m just curious what you make of his career since being taken number one overall by the Browns, now in his fourth team, and having a career resurgence. Uh, you know what, I I always like Baker. Baker, you know, he’s a tough kid. You know, he makes the throws, he runs in there, he does the things he needs to do uh to win football games and I’m I’m I’m happy for him that, you know, his his career’s turned around. And as for the Chargers tonight, the night cap, uh Jim Harbaugh, he’s a noted quarterback guy. What can a coach like that do for the development of a young quarterback like Justin Herbert? Well, I think uh it’s uh I mean everything, you know. I mean, it’s it’s important to have a coach that, you know, it’s that they’re both the quarterback and coach are in unison. They’re thinking on the same page. They talk, they communicate. All those things are, you know, really important. And every team does it. Every head coach does it. And and uh Jim has been outstanding doing that over the years. and and he’s hopefully he can continue to do it with Justin. You know what’s fun about this next question? We’ve had the opportunity here on Sports Center to ask some of the all-time greats when we talk to them what they believe and now and you are certainly a Hall of Famer, one of the all-time greats. So, who do you believe right now is the best quarterback in the NFL? [Laughter] Wow. Let me think about that one for a second. Um um I I I would still I would still say Patrick Mahomes. You know, Patrick Mahomes is a special player. He does things a lot of guys can’t do. And you know what he’s done so far in his career, not only the numbers he’s put up, but the the way he’s won football games and he is a winner. So, I mean, to me, I would say he was probably the the first guy I would say. Yeah, you’re never wrong picking Patrick Mahomes in that debate of best quarterback in the NFL. and you’ve been so kind with us to come on here and talk football on your birthday, but you’re also here to discuss a condition called MASH. What is it, Dan, and and how has it impacted you? Well, MASH is a a fatty liver disease, and I just wanted to say Nova Noric uh was um uh I I appreciate them me getting involved because it’s an awareness program, and the awareness is that a lot of people in this country don’t know they have it. I found out in 2007, you know, there’s 15 million people, you know, in the United States have mash. And the one thing I would say is, you know, you have to go get checkups to find out if you have it. And also as far as diet, exercise, you know, that’s so important in your mental attitude. And then having a support group, all those things are critical. and uh and dealing with mash and I had it for a long time and I was you know it was surprising to me at first but you know when the doctor said hey you can handle this uh it’s something that’s manageable but also the thing is you got to get checked up so you know get your checkups go to do go to the your doctor and get your physicals so you know Dan certainly great cause glad you’ve got continued health with it and coming from someone like you to encourage everyone to get out there and get checked is certainly something we could all benefit from Dan Marino on his birthday. Check out the website as well. Dan, we appreciate you. Hey, enjoy Vegas. Remember, I know you’re you’re 20 years young, but just remember Vegas will get you if you’re not careful. Oh, I hear you, man. I hear you, brother. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]

  1. Marino’s ex mistress and their love child miss him too. That double life caught up with him as it always does to anyone who’s immoral. He’s one of the biggest phonies ever and I’m still shocked his wife took him back after the charade he played on her for years was found out

  2. Do you guys know that Marino is the one that convinced Stephen Ross to give Joe Philbin another chance when he was gonna get fired.
They showed Dan hugging Philbins wife midfield after they beat the Vikings in the last game. The wife got to him and he convinced Ross to keep him only for Philbin to be fired early the following season ..Marino doesn't do jack he's only there as a popular figure. Ross only hired him to hide the fact he got fired from the NFL show the fact he's talking about Mike and the Dolphins almost winning shows how poorly run the franchise is McDaniel might survive..

  3. I personally guarantee the Dolphins will not be winning against Buffalo… The Dolphins do not have a good QB. Its as simple as that. And yes I realize its not all Tua's fault. But Tua does nothing to help us win. He is just a waste of a player to put on the field. Especially when the ball is in his hands every offensive play of the game. He needs to go.

  4. Happy birthday Dan!! He will always be the best passer in NFL history in my eyes. He revolutionized the position in a an era where it was not favorable for QBs and WRs. His stats would still hold up in this era.
